Chairman Drek my beloved
I just really needed to draw him, he's such a tiny, evil, greedy, capitalist bastard. I loved all the planet destroying and all that, that was pretty hot and fun actually.
My wife is obsessed with the Ratchet & Clank games right now and showed me all the cutscenes from the first game, I learnt one (1) thing from all that, that I loved this guy and his video announcements.

Btw idk about y'all but I think Over The Hedge is the movie I've watched the most times in my entire life, rivaled only by maybe Shrek 2 & Cars (2006).

ratchet and clank (i already have my own answer for this but go nuts)
Ratchet and Clank’s goal is to stop Chairman Drek from destroying planets to construct a new home for his fellow blarg. Komaru and Genocider Sho’s goal is to stop the Warriors of Hope, who were destroying the city to construct a new paradise for their fellow children.
Also, Ratchet finds Clank after he crashes on Earth. Genocider Sho finds Komaru after she lands on Earth after falling from the WoH blimp/airplane thing.

One of the more interesting character aspects in the PS2 Ratchet & Clank games was Clank's naivety. It wasn't overplayed, but meshed really well with the aggressive capitalist/consumerist themes of the setting. Clank the dumbfoundingly intelligent but ultimately too trusting and unaware of the harshness of the world, awkwardly guided by Ratchet who's grown to understand the nature of the galaxy but has been worn down into a "got mine, fuck everyone else" attitude. It's what makes their reconciliation and eventual unbreakable bond so compelling. Clank's innocence and stubborn altruism realigns Ratchet's moral compass, and Ratchet's skepticism and relative experience gives Clank a pillar who can filter through all the bullshit without any of it wounding his emotional core. They temper eachother into better people and act as an indomitable two-person support system that can weather the borderline dystopic society they've both been born into.
We see them both grow into more complex and well-rounded people as the games go on. But I would have loved to see Clank go through the epiphany moment so many of us have had when all the unfair rules and conditions finally add up in their brain and it becomes clear how much the system is stacked against everyone.
"Ratchet, something is greatly troubling me." "Yeah, bud?" "I believe it is the correct assumption that monetary exchange systems are designed to distribute wealth based on the economic value one provides, but when tabulating the total net income of the Gadgetron mega-corporation it adds up to...more than one whole google." Ratchet's brow raises like it usually does when he can't process Clank's jargon. "Ratchet, that accounts for more than 99.9% of the shared total income of the rest of the galaxy. It would be enough bolts to fund every economic problem for all time. Why do they need so much money?" Ratchet thinks briefly about how they've been scraping by on ship repair jobs, mostly brought in by people who want to meet the two heroes who saved most of the Solana Galaxy. And he debates internally how to best explain that deep down every CEO is the same kind of person as Chairman Drek.

ROUND ONE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tifa Lockhart
Pit: Lady Palutena, this girl's so fast- and strong! Palutena: Oh, that must be Tifa! Good to see some of Cloud's friends are joining in! Viridi: Hm... She's pretty, but I think I prefer that silver-haired man instead. Pit: Wh- SEPHIROTH? Palutena: Questionable taste aside, you'd be wise not to ignore Tifa, Pit. She's a brawler with power on par with Cloud's Buster Sword! Plus, she's got a knack for Chocobo Racing and Snowboarding! Viridi: You know how Cloud has Limit? Well, when she's charged up her Limit, all of her regular attacks get a boost in power with her chi! Think of that as natural energy all Monks can use. Pit: Chi, huh... Lady Palutena- Palutena: No, I can't give you that power, Pit. Just try and get her to use up her Limit, and you should be fine... Maybe.
Ratchet & Clank
Pit: Aw, he's got a little robot friend! Palutena: That's Clank, and his larger buddy is Ratchet. Ratchet is a Lombax who once helped Clank save the galaxy from Chairman Drek, who was going to destroy several planets to make a brand-new one. Viridi: That's- That's STUPID! Palutena: That's business executives for you. Pit: I don't get it myself, but back to the fight? He keeps swinging that wrench at me! Palutena: Oh, the OmniWrench 8000! It has good reviews online for being a multipurpose tool. Seems here he's using it as a battering weapon. Of course, as a mechanic, he'll have more tools at his disposal, like the Suck Cannon and the Pyrocitor. Just try to keep out of his range, and you should be fine.

Ratchet & Clank Part 1: In a galaxy far,far away...
Ok disclaimer: I am not a long time Ratchet & Clank fan, in fact I only got into the games roughly a year ago and even then it’s only the PS2 games since I have no means to play the rest. So I can’t claim to be an expert at these games. Regardless I quite enjoyed my time with them so I figured I’d make some videos on them
So what’s Ratchet & Clank all about? Well when it comes to the original game I should be clear that many of the things I’ll say about this one will not necessarily always apply to the other games.
Ratchet 1 is a game I like to compare to Sonic 1: both games created the fundamental aspects of each series but they also play pretty differently than later games. Much like how Sonic 1 plays more like a traditional 2D platformer that just happens to go fast every so often, Ratchet 1 plays less like the fast paced, high octane run and gun platformers that are the later Ratchet games, and more like a typical 3D collectathon platformer that happens to have some measure of gun play, though perhaps it’ll be best to explain that aspect better at a later time
So how do levels work here? Well typically you land on a planet and each planet features multiple sections or “obstacle courses” as I like to call them. Think of them as seperate levels all connected by a common hub area, once you pick a path you’ll follow it until you reach its end where the game will always provide you with some form of shortcut to the initial area so you can go choose another path.
At the end of each “course” you’ll generally find either a weapon, a gadget you’ll need to progress through the game or an Infobot containing the coordinates to another planet
Finding each major objective is no biggie because they’re clearly marked on the map as question marks, the focus is more on the challenges you’ll face along the way. I’ll just say that Ratchet 1 has by far the most thought out level design of the PS2 games mainly due to its heavy emphasis on pure platforming, and it can certainly get pretty varied, especially with the environments due to the whole planet switching stuff. I like to think of it as Metroid Prime 3 but cartoony and with furries and with anti-capitalist satire.
Bolts are really important as they act as currency here. You can find them lying around, dropped by dead enemies and inside crates ripped straight out of Crash Bandicoot. Always try to get as many bolts as you can, not just because you’ll need them to buy new weapons but also because well....let’s just say this game is very good at emptying your wallet and leave it at that for now
In the meantime please jam to Planet Veldin’s theme!
(Also that’s Clancy Brown voicing Chairman Drek, aka Dr.Cortex’s old voice. He kinda steals the show a bit)
