The beach was beautiful. Warm sugar sand and sparkling blue ocean. Calm waves lapped the shore as seagulls called overhead. Beach chairs and umbrellas were already set up for them. Faceless NPCs stood at attention in a tiki bar.

One thing that bothers me (and probably only me) is that Shin and Kibito just... have different color palettes now?? Not just their skin but their uniforms too, its so weird and I have no idea why they chaged their colors and *only* them. Their skin colors here are vaguely closer to the colorized manga, but I think their uniform colors were the same in the dbz manga and dbz anime. Its a weird change and not a good one imo, bc now color wise they look too similar.

It kind of bothers me, but I've come to accept that this sort of thing just happens now. My guess is that it's the same deal as Future Trunks' hair color changing in Dragon Ball Super, and perhaps all of the color changes seen in Super Hero.

As far as what that deal is, I suspect it's the animators trying to respect Toriyama. Like, he drew a color picture of Future Trunks back in 2016 or whenever, and the hair in that drawing was blue, so it's like everyone went out of their way to make sure he had blue hair in the show, and all of the flashbacks to Future Trunks in DBZ were sepia-toned to avoid the contradiction, even though Kid Trunks still had purple hair.

At least that's the only thing I can come up with to explain Blue Hair Trunks. They never acknowledged it in the show, and no one ever explained the change to the fans, and apparently no one ever tried to push back against the decision. So that leads me to suspect it was because no one wanted to defy Toriyama on this issue, even though I'm pretty sure he would have been totally chill about it. He probably never insisted on Blue Hair Trunks in the first place. He just drew some promotional art and Toei decided it was a sacred edict. At least, that's my theory on it.

So the Supreme Kai and Kibito in Daima are probably the same deal, since Toriyama probably drew models for those characters for the new show, and he gave them the colors he gave them, and no one at Toei was going to suggest that it's inconsistent with the palettes used in DBZ. And with Daima, that's fair, because so far all the flashbacks to Z have been reanimated from scratch, and it's not like Kibito is constantly hanging around his alternate timeline counterpart who's still red.

Ultimately, it just doesn't matter, because Dragon Ball was a black and white comic in the beginning, and a lot of the color choices in the original anime were chosen for whatever reason they were chosen. Blunks and Super Hero and Daima all seem to represent this effort to conform to a supposedly more "authentic" color scheme, although I'm not sure what makes it so.

It reminds me a lot of the conversation about Giorno Giovanna's clothes in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. Fans were accustomed to the black/dark blue school uniform he wore in the colorized manga, and then the anime version had him in this hot pink number. The truth is that the colors in the color manga were simply chosen by the publisher, possibly to make the comics easier to read on smartphones or whatever. Whenever Araki did color pages in his manga, he would often use radically different palettes, so there was no single color scheme for anything. As I understand it, anime Giorno got a pink uniform because they actually asked Araki and he chose pink. I thought this was all kind of arbitrary, but the other day it finally hit me that Giorno's a year younger than Josuke was in Part 4, and the uniforms are color coded by year. And Kurama form YuYu Hakusho had a pink uniform too, and he was also 15 like Giorno, if I remember right. Not that anyone seems to wear a pink uniform in Japanese schools that I can tell, but whatever.

Anyway, it feels like Toei has felt a need to take more input from Toriyama about these details, and maybe that sense of obligation has overridden any need to give these shows a consistent look. But in the end, I think it's probably inevitable that these kinds of changes would pop up over time. After a few decades, a franchise like Dragon Ball is bound to get a makeover once in a while.

They are still alive and well! BUT! Because both of them exist simultaneously (meaning I literally would not make this chage if only one of them existed) I'm gonna be "nerfing" them a bit. Here are the major changes:

As Cruel As You will no longer be a webcomic, but instead a frequently illustrated written work. This means that instead of drawing every little thing that happens and telling the story in comic form, the bulk of the details will be written in text, and that text will be accompanied with illustrations when I feel it is appropriate. The illustrations won't be few and far between, there will be lots! Still, it's SIGNIFICANTLY a lot less than a comic. I will be uploading it here and on AO3 once I figure out how to input images. I was going to make a transcribed version of ACAY on AO3 for accessibility purposes anyway, so this works out. Yes, it will still be mostly in black and white. Color will be used when necessary for storytelling. (Can text color change on AO3? Hmmm...)

The Bunny's Code will go from being fully animated to partially animated. It will most likely resemble animatics (perhaps with a few more frames) for the most part, but will have some shots fully animated depending on the scene.

Basically, for both of these projects, the changes will be utilized based on the scenes that they are portraying. Essentially, I'm playing it by ear, therefore I can't really give a precise answer as to how many illustrations ACAY will have or much of TBC will be fully animated. Either way, this is being done so that these projects will have an easier time coexisting while still getting their point across. As I always say, use your limitations to your advantage!

Family names in Poland - gender forms

In this post I explain if a family name has different forms depending on the gender of the person or not.

Family names in Poland may or may not indicate gender.

Family names in Poland are either grammatically adjectives or grammatically nouns. To put it simply, adjectives have both male and female versions, and nouns do no.

1. Adjective names are those ex with ending on "-ski", "-cki". An adjective must match the noun it describes. So if you describe a man you need an adjective with masculine ending (ski, cki). If you describe a woman, you need feminine endigs that are - ska, -cka

(man) Lewandowski - (woman) Lewandowska

(man) Polański- (woman) Polańska

(man) Skłodowski- (woman) Skłodowska

(man) Bielecki- (woman) Bielecka

(man) Krakowski - (woman) Krakowska

Adjective-names decline just like any other regualr adjective in Polish language.

2. Other adjective-names - in most cases they also reveal gender

Not only -ski / -cki adjectives could be family names, but also common adjectives as well, like the adjectives describing colors, qualites, or those driven from the names of professions etc.

If a man's family name ends with -y, it means it's an adjective. Woman's form will end with -a. Mind that there are also many noun-names ending with -a, so it might happen that both men and woman has -a ending family name.

Adam Czarny (black) - Anna Czarna (black with female ending)

Adam Cichy (quiet)- Anna Cicha (quiet with female ending)

Adam Prosty (straight)- Anna Prosta (straight with female ending)

But:

Adam Grusza (noun: pear tree) - Anna Grusza (noun: pear tree)

Adjective-names decline like any other regualr adjective.

But here comes the twist. A woman can decide either her name would be in masculine or femenine form. "Anna Cicha" might sound as if we actually describe Anna as quiet, maybe it sounds a bit funny, so she can decide to use the form "Cichy", where there's no doubt its a family name.

If we have "Anna Cichy" situation, "Cichy" is not declined and always stays in the form of "Cichy".

3. Noun-names

So here comes every other name that is gramatically a noun. They have only one form, regardless of the gender of the person who bears them.

Adam Wilk - Anna Wilk (wilk = wolf. masc. gender)

Adam Myszka - Anna Myszka (myszka = little mouse, fem.gender)

Even patronymics as official family names do not chage form according to gender (despite the fact that their literal meaning is "son of x")

Adam Piotrowicz - Anna Piotrowicz

In official documents, you don't add any other endings to get femenine form of the name. Anna Wilk stays Wilk.

You migth wonder about the ending "-owa", just like it is (was) for women's forms of the names in Czechia (-ová/-ova/-eva)

But in Poland the ending -owa are used only in informal situations and it refers to marital status (or nowadays being couple is enough) "Wilkowa" is a female spouse or partner of Mr. Wilk, but she herself doesn't even have to bear his name.

4. Declension of noun-names

Men's names - almost always decline.

Female names - decline only if the name is a noun of femenine gender. It's like with Anna Cichy situation. When it's Cicha, so in femenine gender, it declines. When it's Cichy, so in non-femenine gender, it does not decline.

Nie ma Anny (in genitive form ) Wilk (does't change because wilk is of masculine gender)- Anna Wilk is not there.

Nie ma Anny (in genitive form) Myszki (in genitive form, it does decline because myszka is of femenine gender)- Anna Myszka is not there
