Rambling about Fairies - Manga Chapter 59-60 vs Anime Episode 26

Phantom Lord may be a bunch of troublemakers, but they have standards, too. Not everyone in the guild is a cool-blooded person like Jose and Gajeel was.

Also– this is one of the few scenes where the anime is much more blatntly gruesome than the manga. Gajeel kicks her black and blue there. here he also kicks her around– but then he crucifies her and throws darts at her, which adds some continuity to the showy sadism he’s had since his initial introduction with Levy.

This proves that that wasn’t just a stunt he pulled to have some narrative impact, it’s inherently in his nature.

I guess you could argue that this is much more horrific, because this could actually kill her in one hit. And this is much more sadistic in a ‘hey, you could genuinely actually do this to a real person so let’s not teach kids how to bully their friends or little animals in worse ways’, so I understand why the anime settled for normal violence instead. 

Here we immediately know that Fairy Tail obviously won’t hit her somewhere real, because she’s not going to die, obviously. So it turns into a waiting game for Natsu. 

But in the anime, seeing her get physically tortured is just hard to look at. Which is why he scene of defiance is so much more impactful in the anime. Which is why the scene right after it is so much more satisfying as well.��

Thematically I like the manga, but impact wise? Damn that punch was the most satisfying thing in the whole story.
