Memes aside, Jellal & Mystogan have many parallels with 90s Sailor Moon anime Tuxedo Mask. Just off the top of my head, in the first two seasons Mamoru
is introduced as a quite a jerk in the beginning (out-of-the-mask at least)
gets brainwashed by a woman with a crystal ball who acts on behalf of some bigger evil and probably was also manipulated (Queen Beryl) and temporarily acts as an antagonist, doesn't stop him from flirting with the love of his life though
loses his memory after (nearly?) dying being blasted to smithereens in a remote location (although all of the main cast do)
temporarily assumes another identity hiding his face (Moon Knight or something like that, compare to Jellal playing role of Mystogan during GMG)
might be mistaken here, but the thing that tickled his lost memory was also his love's hair (the signature odango hairstyle)
was a prince in the past life, becomes a king in the future, in between plays a role of occasional helper
speaking of which, there are 2 other versions besides the present/main one (past life Endymion, future king Endymion, but that also goes for the rest of main cast), that are almost treated as separate characters (the present and future ones even meet each other as there's time travel involved)
there's a break-up at some point where he lies about the true reason, because "the world will perish" or something (compare to Jellal's "fiancee")
the future king version has a daughter named after her mother (grandmother for Mystogan's case)
first met the love of his life when they were little, at least in current life, as was revealed later (it might have been a scene from one of the movies though)
capes, most of his outfits (that aren't normal civilian) have capes
Perhaps the anime staff were onto something when they gave Erza a magic girl transformation in season 1 (which contradicted the fastest requip claim, but that's not the point here).

this chapter has really great train pics
Vol. 22, Ch. 215
phew, just in time
i get shocked every time i see conan's size compared to others' in shots like this lol, my friend's little brother is around 8 rn and they're a short person so he comes up to their shoulders nearly. my friend would be hip-height to the kudous if they were scaled with conan lmaooo
yukiko and yuusaku look absolutely gorgeous here. it just occurred to me that they remind me if sailor moon and prince endymion for some reason, similar hair colour definitely, but i think yukiko does have some sailor moon characteristics. hmm. anyway, i know i keep mentioning it but i want to know/see more of the kudous! they're all so talented, cool and beautiful 😔 i just think their family is so fun

ch.15: the spectre sisters
Story Masterlist
Fandom: Sailor Moon (Crystal)
Rewrite of season 2, AU-ish in that there’s new OCs and the fusion of plots from the manga, crystal and the og series
Pairings: Eventual OFC x OMC, Usagi x Mamoru
Taglist: @ocappreciationtag @arrthurpendragon @anotherunreadblog @maaaaarveeeeel @stareyedplanet @foxesandmagic @kmc1989
"Shadows are more than just shadows. There's an entire world of them," Princess Reign had her hands over her heart. "Shadows of us, of the lost, of the dead, they're all sealed away in another world and to get to that world...you literally have to go through me."
"The Shadow Crystal is embedded in your heart. Doesn't that pose a threat to you?" Endymion inquired, looking very concerned at her with the news.
"The Crystal doesn't hurt anyone. All it does is hide, and in return it gives you small gifts," Reign smiled.
"But it's not what made you a…?"
"Sailor Scout? No," Reign laughed. "The Crystal was a responsibility bestowed to me by the Gods. Being a Sailor Scout was my birthright."
"And yet you don't…"
"Practice? No. My mother won't allow it."
"There's a lot of things your mother doesn't allow," Endymion noted. He wondered how she hadn't gone mad with resentment.
"Yeah. Even though I'm sure she doesn't follow her own rules either."
"How so?"
Reign looked around before speaking again. As far from home as she was, she was always careful about speaking so freely. "I'm pretty sure she's found our sister civilization and has contact with them."
"You mean Obscurius?" Endymion vaguely remembered her mentioning it once but she never really went into detail about it.
"Yeah, them. They're supposed to be like a civilization close to our abilities and yet we are not allowed to speak with them," Reign leaned against a stone pillar. Her eyes drifted once more to the sky above. "When I am Queen, I'm going to take down all those rules and I am going to welcome anyone who wishes to live in peace. I will not rule like my mother who is governed by paranoia. My Kingdom will be all of people, Shadows...humans…" she smiled purposely at Endymion, "...anyone so long as they want peace."
A tall, blonde haired girl trudged behind Meroko and Asteria into the cafe shop where the rest of the girls were waiting. After getting settled (and ordering), they began to discuss business.
"She's going to enroll in school as our cousin, under the name Emica Pala," Asteria informed the group.
"I don't see why I have to give myself a ridiculous human name," huffed Emica herself. Her dark blue eyes flickered side to side, giving the impression she was not yet convinced of the new world.
"Because we can't just call you 'Siren'," Minako said, earning a hard glare in return. "It would give up your identity," Minako added what she thought would finish convincing Emica that it was the better option.
"Sure," Emica rolled her eyes. Unazuki turned on the blender from the counter and made Emica nearly spring into her feet.
"Easy there, Black Canary, it's just a blender," Azula motioned Emica to sit back down. The blonde gave a questionable stare in response. "It's a comic? She has the ability to scream as deadly as you?" Azula waited a moment but once again, Emica looked confused, prompting Azula to shake her head. "Never mind."
"These humans…" Emica looked around the room again as she sat down, "... they're very advanced now, aren't they?" She eyed the blender on the counter that, in her opinion, was way too loud.
"In comparison to the last time you saw them? I'm sure we are," Azula smiled.
"Emica never saw the humans in our past lives," Meroko explained. "Except for the time Princess Reign stepped out from the Shadow Barrier."
"So what did you do all day?" Usagi wondered.
Emica sighed. She'd been warned by her comrades that she would be subjected to various questions by the girls. "I made sure the palace was protected. Given my abilities, I was named head militarist of Shadow. It was my task to make sure no foreign threat invaded the palace and the kingdom."
"If you could hypnotize people the way you did two days ago, then that palace must have been safe all the time," Makoto meant that as nothing but a compliment. It seemed to work for a minute.
Emica rested a cheek on her hand and produced a fine smirk. "My songs are the best in the whole universe. However," her smirk faded, "it wasn't enough to stop whatever the hell killed the humans back then."
"It was the Moon Kingdom's fault," Asteria was kind enough to tell her, instigating the offended 'hey's!' from the others.
"It really wasn't," Rei snapped. "Nobody is at fault for Queen Metaria's attacks."
"Okay let's get back to business please," Azula lightly clapped her hands before the two girls got into another argument. "Emica, we're having trouble finding Princess Reign and stopping Senka altogether…"
Emica snorted lightly. "I imagine you would be. Senka is no ordinary enemy."
"You know something we don't?" Ami inquired curiously, ready to listen to anything new that could help them stop Senka.
Emica gave a light shrug of her shoulders. She lowered her hands to her lap and sighed. "Senka was a dark legend that Queen Nyx once told me about. She told me about our dark enemies so that if I once had the unfortunate luck to meet one of them, I would be prepared."
"What did she say about Senka?" Minako asked.
"Senka is a creature that's made up of three different beings," Emica motioned with her hands in the air. "Queen Nyx said that these three beings were the Shadow Dominion-counterparts of actual, living people. Warriors."
"Do you know who those warriors were?" Makoto asked.
Emica nodded. "They were Sailor Scouts' shadows. One was unknown, but Queen Nyx assured me that this shadow was the counterpart of a powerful Sailor Scout. As for the other two Scouts…" Emica gave a tilt of her head, "I'm sure you know."
"We really doubt that," Rei said flatly.
"Sailor Reign and Sailor Moon."
Usagi squeaked in her chair. Her eyes widened and she pointed at herself to make sure Emica had just said her name.
Emica nodded her head again. "Sailor Moon was always a Scout to come therefore her shadow always existed in the Shadow Dominion."
"But I'm not…" Usagi didn't want the others to think she was being modest or anything because she really didn't consider herself all that of a good warrior.
Emica playfully rolled her eyes. "You possess the power of life and healing. Sailor Reign controls Shadows, and the third scout possessed powers of destruction. You three together are…"
"Invincible," Meroko rubbed her face, feeling that pressure rise tenfold. "That's great. Really."
Usagi scratched the back of her head and sheepishly smiled. "Sorry?"
"Don't do that," Azula told her right away then looked to Emica. "How do we stop Senka?"
"Are you kidding?" Meroko said with a face that assumed Azula had lost it.
"Hey, no matter how powerful, Senka has to have a weakness. Everyone does," Azula assured. "It's human nature."
"Senka's not human!"
"The concept still applies because it's basic biology." Azula looked at the rest of her friends to see if they were on the same page. "No matter how powerful someone is, they always have at least one weakness. And even if it's small, it's still a chance. And I don't know about you, but I'm taking at least one chance."
"She's right," Rei was the first to say. With determination, she directed her gaze to Emica. "So? What is it?"
Emica was troubled but she did have one idea that could prove to be useful. "Shadows from the Shadow Dominion can be destroyed if hit with a powerful attack. But, since Senka is made up of three shadows, you'd have to destroy each of those beings one by one."
"There you go," Azula proudly smiled.
"It's not easy!" Emica snapped.
"I never said it would be, but it's definitely a start."
Emica rubbed her forehead. "You don't understand. This attack I'm talking about? It has to be phenomenally big."
"Well, there's plenty of Sailor Scouts' power we can combine," Ami thought of the idea rather fast. "We could combine our powers and let Sailor Moon direct the attack."
Usagi squeaked again but this time out of fear. "M-me!?"
Azula laughed and clapped a hand over her shoulder. "It's definitely fitting."
"Great," Usagi suddenly felt like the air in her had gone without her permission.
~0~
Meroko and Asteria had made sure that their shared apartment felt like a comfortable home for them. The same feeling could not be shared by Emica. She had already gone through the entire place ten times and could not, for the life of her, find it suitable. The "luxuries" humans had in today's world seemed so pointless to her.
"And people just waste time watching this box?" Emica stared in disgust at the television in the living room. They were silly pictures moving and talking all day long.
"It's a big thing here," Meroko shrugged. "Don't worry, we don't use it much."
Emica turned around to her younger comrades. "Good. I should like to think that you haven't wasted time."
Asteria narrowed her eyes on the girl. "Of course we wouldn't. Finding Reign is our priority."
But something in Emica's face wasn't so convinced. "Really? So this Black Moon Clan I heard about earlier...you haven't helped with that?"
Meroko groaned. She forgot how difficult Emica was sometimes. Like Asteria, Emica prioritized her duties before anything. However, Emica spent more time ordering others than anything else. It shaped her personality into an assertive girl. It was great for ordering...but it conflicted with her comrades at times. She often forgot that while she was head of the Shadow military, she wasn't the head of their team. That belonged to someone else.
"Well of course we have," Meroko huffed and ignored the disapproving look she was getting. "What were we supposed to do? Let that ridiculously-named club destroy us?"
Emica released a small, frustrated sigh. She pinched the bridge of her nose, further annoying Meroko. "Our top priority is to find the Princess. Even finding Circe comes second. This Black Moon Clan is not our problem. It's those Moon descendants' issue."
"Yeah, but they're on the same planet that Reign is on so what if they hurt people and one of them ends up being Reign? Then what?"
Emica considered the idea with some degree of thought. She shook her hands and turned away. "We should be focusing all our resources on finding Reign."
"Hm, we've been trying," Asteria huffed and moved closer to her. "You wouldn't happen to know what Reign did with the Shadow Crystal?"
Emica's head was quick to snap in Asteria's direction. "Of course not," she said within the second. "A Sailor Scout should never know that type of information. Not even Circe knew...and she knew everything. We wouldn't like to become the next Forbidden Soldier, would we?"
Both Meroko and Asteria shook their heads.
"Look, Senka is searching for it," Meroko said. "She terrorizes the humans on a daily basis for it but she hasn't found it...and neither have we."
"The most logical thing would be for the Crystal to be hidden inside the unawakened princess," Emica leaned on a hip as she thought some more. "Therefore, the most logical thing to do would be to let Senka search the humans."
Asteria smirked. "That's exactly what Azula thought."
"Azula?" Emica ransacked her mind for the identities of each of the girls she had met earlier. "Is it the little redhead?"
"Yup. She's my favorite human."
"But don't get your hopes up," Meroko cut in before Emica said anything. "The others didn't go for it."
"Well" — Emica clapped her hands together — "since I am the second-in-command of the Shadow Scouts and therefore first at the moment, I am taking control of this mission."
"Emica—"
"We," Emica purposely spoke louder, "are Shadow Sailor Scouts and we do not answer to Silver Milleniums. They are the reason we're in this situation and the idea of them thinking they're in command is laughable. We no longer hold contact with them." Thinking she made her point, Emica walked into the room Meroko and Asteria had given her the previous night.
"I forgot she was annoying," Meroko admitted a few seconds later, and ignored the reprimanding glance of her sister.
~ 0 ~
"She's pretty but I can tell she's gonna be even more difficult than Asteria," Azula relayed what Emica was like to Mamoru as the two headed for Usagi's house. In comparison to the other Shadow scouts they had met, Emica seemed to have more tude.
"More?" Mamoru laughed shortly. He didn't think that was possible.
"You laugh now but you haven't met her. She has this...face...that screams 'bitch'."
"Okay, Azula, I think you're overrreacting—"
"Don't ever tell me I'm overacting. Serious bad move."
The two barely turned the corner of Usagi's house when the blonde girl herself crashed into them.
"Usagi I do get tired of these types of welcomings," Azula sighed and fixed blouse.
"I'm sorry but Chibiusa isn't home and my Mom literally yelled at me not to come home until she's back," Usagi said with nothing but irritation. "As if she didn't know Chibiusa's favorite sport was run and hide!"
"Usagi calm down, she's probably at the park," Mamoru said with a careless shrug of his shoulders.
"Yeah, we can go with you if you'd like," Azula smiled.
Usagi had no disagreements there. She happily took Mamoru's hand and walked together to the park. "What are you carrying an umbrella for?" she had spotted the red umbrella in Azula's hand.
"I thought it was going to rain," Azula admitted. Now it was her burden.
"It matches your hair," Usagi giggled.
"Yeah let's not talk about my hair issues, alright?" Azula smirked to the side when Usagi gasped in offence. It was then that Mamoru decided to walk between the two girls instead.
They made it to the park alive and sure enough spotted the pink-haired girl on the same bench they often did. As they neared, though, they noticed she was crying...and calling for her mother.
"Chibi—" Usagi barely got to call when Azula grabbed her arm to pull her back.
"What's that key she's holding?" the redhead pointed to the silver key in Chibiusa's hand.
"It looks...familiar," Mamoru remarked. He thought it looked kind of familiar...
"Mother, father, I want to go home!" Chibiusa raised the key high in the air.
Azula's eyes widened and her hand yanked Usagi back and forth. "Oh my God! It's the same key Reyna and Sailor Circe used to get back home!"
Mamoru realized she was right. That's why it seemed familiar. "Meaning she's about to go back to wherever she's from!"
Something white flashed on Chibiusa's forehead that momentarily blinded the trio. It lasted for a very short minute - perhaps half a minute - before Chibiusa fell back on the ground.
"Oh, I knew this would happen soon!" a new female voice said high and mighty.
A tall, pale woman in a baby-blue leotard and matching high-knee boots called for Chibiusa. The woman's white hair was put in a long braid that whipped side to side as she laughed. There was another braid going around her forehead, right over a black inverted crescent moon on her skin. It was the same moon that Koan had too. "I knew it was only a matter of time before you gave your location up, rabbit!"
Chibiusa was terrified of the woman but could not move away.
"Guys...good time to transform…" Azula muttered to the two friends standing beside her. "Go! Now!"
"Berthier, you know that I found her first!" Koan appeared behind her younger sister. She pointed a gloved finger at Berthier. "Now you should leave."
"Hm," Berthier tossed her braid behind her shoulder. "Might I suggest a little competition? First one to kill the rabbit is the winner?"
Koan smirked. "I'm never one to back from a challenge. Very well."
But Koan took another step, she was whacked against the head with a red umbrella. Koan fell to the ground with a loud groan.
Azula stood behind with wide blinking eyes and with her hands still clutching her umbrella in the air. She crossed gazes with Chibiusa on the ground and motioned with her head. "RUN!"
Chibiusa scrambled to get on her feet and ran in the same direction Azula had gone off in.
"Come back here!" Berthier shouted after them.
"Don't look back! Don't look back!" Azula warned Chibiusa when the two ran side-by-side. "Looking back makes you fall like in the movies!"
"Aha!" Chibiusa pushed herself so that she could run faster.
Berthier proved to be a quick runner as she glided through and up benches and chess tables. She started throwing lassos of water that snapped at each chance they got. Eventually, one of them tripped Chibiusa on her feet.
"Oh no you don't!" Azula skidded to a stop and turned right back around.
Berthier put her hands together and released a large strange force of water. Chibiusa scrunched her eyes shut and waited for the blow but it never came. She cracked open one eye and saw that Azula had jumped in front of her and was using her umbrella (which was now open) to take the blow.
"I can't believe this is working!" Azula laughed to herself.
Chibiusa managed one small smile on the ground. Suddenly, Berthier screamed. Her attack was cut off by a sharpened rose cutting her arm.
"When will you people learn that attacking innocent people and children is plain wrong?" Sailor Moon shook her head with Tuxedo Mask beside her.
"When will you quit making weird intros and just go for it?" Azula lowered her umbrella and scowled.
"It's you," Berthier growled at the two. "My sister Koan told me all about you. You're nuisances."
"And you're pale like a witch," Azula blurted and quickly regretted it when she got unamused glares from the three. She snapped her umbrella close and smiled. "I'm gonna go now…" she reached for Chibiusa's hand and turned them away, only to come face to face with Koan.
"Berthier, I think we'll have to call it a draw," Koan's lips turned into a sinister smirk.
Berthier shared the same smirk. "And I have the perfect way to break it. First one to get those two," she nodded to Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask, "wins all."
"I didn't take you to be such a dealer," Koan gazed at the 'tie breakers' with mirth. "I accept the new terms."
"I think it's time to call in for some back up," Tuxedo Mask murmured to Sailor Moon.
The blonde quickly agreed. She then gave a significant look towards Azula.
"What are you doing?" Chibiusa questioned the moment Azula flipped open her wrist watch.
"Calling for some additional help! Now stay behind me."
"But she's Sailor Moon," Chibiusa poked her head from behind Azula's legs. The two sisters had lunged on Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
"Yeah but there's nothing wrong in needing help from others," Azula shut her communicator after leaving the urgent message. "Now we should go." She took the girl's small hand and made a run for it.
Berthier caught the movement and fired an ice blast that converted itself into a fine ice wall preventing the girls from leaving. "And just so you don't get any ideas…" Berthier shot again and plastered Azula and Chibiusa against the ice wall, keeping them locked under ice covers.
"It's c-cold!" Chibiusa's teeth chartered to no end.
Berthier, pleased with her work, turned back to the ongoing fight.
~0~
"It was them," Meroko shut down her communicator and turned to Asteria. "The Black Moon Clan is at it again. We should—"
"Do nothing," Emica emerged from her bedroom. "It's not our problem." Her straight face indicated there was no point in arguing with her about it but that didn't stop Meroko from making her case.
"They are hurting our friends—"
"Friends?" Emica repeated, her eyebrows raising in confusion. "Are you forgetting that these 'friends' are the reason why we're in this situation in the first place?"
"Look, I get it, you're mad as hell. I was the same when I first realized who I was," Meroko tried to appeal to Emica's feelings. It was a horrible thing in the beginning when you remember your world was destroyed by third parties. "I nearly did the same thing you're trying to do right now. But separating myself from the other Scouts isn't gonna help anyone. We'll just speed up our Doomsday date."
"The Black Moon Clan is specifically after the Silver Millenniums, not us," Emica spoke purposely loud as if that would give her the authority she thought she had. "Our mission is separate. We do not meddle." Meroko's eyebrows furrowed together. Seeing that made Emica walk up to Meroko, purposely towering over her. "Stand down."
Meroko glanced at Asteria to see where her sister stood. Unfortunately, for the first time Asteria was completely indecisive. Meroko groaned. "Unbelievable!" She spat and stormed to the bedroom, making sure to slam the door as loud as possible.
~0~
Berthier and Koan had left their wicked bet up to their droids. Why should they get all dirty when the work could be done for them and they would still get the joy of taking everything in the end. Battling two foes with contrasting powers was no easy work. Thankfully, the rest of the Scouts joined in and gathered the needed numbers to destroy the droids with Sailor Moon's special power. But when they thought victory was finally within reach, a crack of thunder in the sky made them all freeze...including Berthier and Koan.
Azula noticed Chibiusa's increasing fear like she knew what was coming. She followed the young girl's gaze to the sky and saw a man with wild red hair and the same inverted black crescent moon on his forehead as the other women.
"Let's stop the playground thing, shall we?" the man designated his gaze to Berthier and Koan.
"Who the hell is that?" Sailor Jupiter was the one to command.
"One of the Black Moon family, Rubeus," the man answered with pride.
"Why are you after that girl?" Sailor Moon pointed at the frightened Chibiusa.
"We have a duty to change the future of this city. For that, we have to have this girl die."
"Haven't you heard that rewriting history is a dangerous thing?" Azula had to speak up. "You could essentially be writing yourself out of reality."
Rubeus paid no attention to her. All he saw was Chibiusa right beside her and acted. He brought up a fist that was soon engulfed with dark energy. He fired at Chibiusa but at the last moment Sailor Moon jumped in to block the attack with her own body.
"Sailor Moon!" Chibiusa cried out but the ice around her was far too strong to break through on her own.
Sailor Moon slowly picked herself up and faced Rubeus again. "She precious, and likes to play pranks, and very despicable, but, but…"
"It's the end," Rubeus laughed maniacally and went to give a second,ore fatal, attack. But, just mere seconds before he could fulfill his duty, a golden, shimmering boomerang sprang forwards and successfully hit Rubeus' hand.
Sailor Hemera stood proud and tall across the group. "I think not! The Silver Millenniums are not alone. This Sailor Scout from Shadow will stand by their side and protect that child."
Rubeus and the two sisters gasped upon hearing the familiar names. Could it be they had not only found the ancestors of the Crystal Tokyo, but also those of the Shadow race?
"Sailor Moon, do it now!" Sailor Hemera shouted at the blonde and hoped she wasn't too hurt to deliver one final attack.
She wasn't. Sailor Moon took out her Moon stick and used all her remaining energy to give a good blast of energy. "Moon princess halation!"
"Rubeus!" Koan shouted.
Rubeus had to hold himself up from the blast of stinging energy. "We have to retreat!" Without a question, the two sisters disappeared with him.
The ice wall holding Azula and Chibiusa melted into water, leaving them soaking wet on the ground. The others rushed to go see if they were okay.
"We're sure to get colds after this," Azula shivered and got up with the help of Venus.
Sailor Moon helped Chibiusa sit upright. Luckily, the girl seemed to be just fine...in what fit. "Chibiusa, please tell us the truth. You came from the future, didn't you?"
The pink haired girl's lip quivered as the questions came flying at her again.
"What's the tenth planet?"
"What's the family of the dark moon?"
"Did they do something to your mother?"
Chibiusa burst into tears. She threw her arms around Sailor Moon and asked for help. "My mother! Please help my mother! Sailor Moon! Please save my mother from those bad ones! She said that Sailor Moon and Sailor Reign would help me out!"
Poor Sailor Moon had no clue what to do with the crying child, and it seemed like the sentiment was shared among the rest.

I had an idea for a Rowaelin prompt: Aelin gathers the courage to give her number to a very handsome stranger -who then messages her telling he's gay, but it was super cool that Aelin had the guts to give her number. He also has a super hot brother, who just happens to be single and he could give the brother's number to Aelin.
She then messages the brother, they start chatting and do end up on a date - and he does not disappoint, for the pine green eyes, silver hair and a body to die for are even better than what she could've hoped for
hi anon!! I love this so much hehehehe

Enda’s Single Brother
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe it was the liquid courage.
Maybe it was that she hadn’t gotten laid in seven months.
Or maybe it was just sheer Aelin Galathynius Confidence™ that made her strut across the crowded pub and approach the tall, handsome guy leaning against the bar, purposely tripping a little to bump into him.
“God, I’m so sorry,” she apologized, righting herself against the bar top.
“It’s not a problem,” the guy replied, grinning at her. Yeah, he was cute. “My name’s Endymion, but everyone calls me Enda.”
“Nice to meet you, Enda.” She shook his hand warmly. “I’m Aelin.”
She chatted casually with Enda for a few minutes, breaking off when Elide waved at her from the table. “Shoot, my friend’s waving frantically at me, I should go see what she wants.”
“Nice meeting you, Aelin,” Enda grinned.
“You too.” Aelin loosed a short huff. Then she scribbled her number down on a napkin and slid the flimsy paper over to him. “I don’t want to seem pushy, but here’s my number, I’d love to keep talking.” She left before her face could erupt into flames.
“You did it!” Elide whisper-screeched when she got back to the table, blushing a little.
“Yeah,” Aelin agreed. “Yeah, I did.”
“You go, girl!” Lys slapped her a high five. “Look at you, all grown up and getting hot guys to notice you.”
“Bitch,” Aelin laughed. But she was proud of herself.
~
Enda texted her after she got home, the message pinging on her phone. She glanced at the screen.
>Hey, it’s Enda!
<Hey Enda! This is Aelin
>Oh good, it worked :)
<Glad it did
>Okay
>I have to admit something...
<Yeah? Go ahead!
>I...um...
A Rowaelin prompt if I may; Rowan and Aelin are engaged, but every time someone asks them to tell how the proposal went/how they ended up engaged, they make up new stories - each one more random and dirty than the one before. No matter who asks, whether family, friends or random old ladies at the grocery store.
Thank you SO MUCH for the prompt!! <3
word count: 912
warnings: language, naughty naughty jokes, mentions of sex, lots of innuendo
enjoy!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aelin could hardly open the garage door, she was laughing so hard. Rowan wasn't any better, he was bent halfway over, clutching his stomach, tears leaking from the corners of his eyes as he tried and failed to catch his breath.
"Shit, Aelin," he wheezed, fumbling for the door to hold it open for her, "In public?!"
"And here I thought you were the one who was into that," she smirked, cackling even harder. She managed to place the bags of groceries both she and Rowan were carrying onto the counter before another wave of laughter crashed over her, leaving her to sink to the floor, wheezing helplessly. "I can't believe I said that."
"I can," Rowan grinned, handing her a tissue.
At the grocery store, they'd been going through the checkout line when the cashier, a very sweet lady about Rowan's mom's age, had noticed Aelin's engagement ring and offered her congratulations. And then she'd asked them for the story, of course, like so many of their friends and relatives and even random people on the street had done in the two months since Rowan had popped the question.
Wicked sparks gleamed in Aelin's eyes.
"Well," she began, leaning in like she was sharing a secret, "I think it was the fourth orgasm that did it."
The poor cashier's eyes had nearly fallen out of her face as she goggled.
Innocently, Aelin continued. "Y'see, he'd never gone more than three rounds back to back, something I'm certainly not complaining about, no ma'am, but something about that resort must have given him extra stamina or something, because the man is insatiable." She winked broadly. "Insatiable, I tell you. In the pool, in the shower, all over the suite--hell, the poor staff's probably still finding scuff marks on the walls from the bedframe banging into it. Three times my fine fiancé had filled me up, and just as I thought he was going to drop down next to me and fall asleep, he and his best friend suddenly became re-energized, and I found myself in a position I'd never tried before. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, no indeed." Her grin was positively evil. "So after that round, in the throes of bliss and all of that, he rolled over onto his side and just panted, 'Marry me, baby.' I thought for sure it was the orgasms talking, but he was serious." She blew Rowan a kiss, admiring her ring.
The cashier's jaw hung open. She took a big deep breath and shook herself back into business mode. "I...I'm sure the two of you will be very happy together," she managed as she rang up the total.
Aelin and Rowan had barely made it out the doors before they exploded with laughter, great pealing guffaws that lasted the whole drive back to their house. She wasn't quite sure how she'd managed to see well enough to drive given the film of laughter-tears that clouded her eyes, but they'd made it.
"I think that was the best one yet," Rowan remarked as he helped her stand.
She snorted. "Better than the one we told Lorcan?"
He coughed, the memory of that account rising. "Shit, maybe not."
Elide and Lorcan had been some of the first people to find out about their engagement. They'd been over at Rowan and Aelin's house, and the loudest shriek Rowan had ever heard in his life emitted from Elide when she caught sight of Aelin's new ring. Of course, she and Lorcan had demanded the proposal story right away. Aelin shot Rowan a wicked wink, her intent to spin something absolutely wild showing in the gesture.
Then she'd launched into a gushy retelling of the place where Rowan had proposed--the Galathynius family's cabin in the Oakwald Forest--complete with a hell of a lot of embellishment, mostly involving celebration sex.
Rowan couldn't help himself when Lorcan raised an eyebrow and inquired how well he thought it had gone.
"Judging by the way she squirted all over my face, I'd say it went very well indeed," he'd hummed, smirking like the cat who ate the canary.
Or the fiancée, as it were.
Lorcan's face went a rather gratifying shade of uncomfortable. "Fuck, Whitethorn," he grumbled, crimson staining his cheeks. "Why the fuck d'you have to be so crude?"
"Pot, kettle," Rowan snorted, snickering at his oldest friend.
Ah yes, the start of their wild proposal stories.
Aedion and Lys had been told that Rowan proposed on a ziplining date, one of the wilder adventures he and Aelin had taken together, an adventure that had almost given him several heart attacks when Aelin decided to go down the route that included leaping off a tree into a steep plunge as part of the course. Aelin's parents had heard that their future son-in-law proposed on the way home from the club. While singing a boisterous, off-key rendition of "Let's Get It On" and stumbling over his own two feet. Rowan's parents had heard that he proposed in an airplane bathroom--what the two of them were doing together in an airplane bathroom, they had not wanted to know.
They invented proposal stories on the fly, whenever someone new asked. The one Aelin had told at the grocery store was definitely the dirtiest, though.

Chef’s Special

warnings: NSFW, language, minors proceed with caution.
ENJOY! had way too much fun writing this haha
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aelin was running on pure instinct and adrenaline as she leaned into Rowan’s kiss, the hungry way he devoured her lips sending waves of heat pulsing through her body, setting her core throbbing. She could feel her thong starting to soak through just from the rush of this fiery kiss, from the way Rowan’s big, rough chef’s hands kneaded her breasts, working the flesh through her shirt and the flimsy little bra she was wearing.
A hoarse, garbled moan escaped her as Rowan tangled his fingers into her hair, tilting her head back against the door so he could slide his lips down the column of her throat, having enough foresight not to leave any marks. Though a part of her really fucking wanted him to leave marks.
Gods, she had it so bad.
“Rowan!” she gasped as his tattooed hand--fuck, she hadn’t noticed how extensive that tattoo of his was--slipped brazenly into her leggings, cupping her center through her panties.
He smirked darkly against her neck, two fingers stroking lazily up her core, his breath shaking as he discovered just how wet she was. “All for me, baby?” he murmured into her ear, the low roughness of his voice only making her wetter. And damn the man, he noticed, his smirk growing. “Use your words,” he commanded, his fingers brushing oh so close to her clit but never actually touching where she wanted him the most.
“Yes,” she whispered, her hips involuntarily bucking into his touch. “Gods, fuck, yes, Chef.” She didn’t fucking know why she called him Chef, but as she felt his arousal pressing against her, she sure as hell wasn’t complaining.
“Keep calling me that, baby,” Rowan all but growled, crashing his lips back against hers. “And you’ll have to keep quiet.”
She hardly had the time to process what he’d just implied when he shoved her soaked thong aside and plunged one thick finger into her, his thumb finally brushing against her clit, drawing a pattern of circles into the throbbing bud. She moaned into his rough kiss as he pumped his finger, withdrawing it only to replace it with two, crooking them just right. “Fuck, Chef!” she groaned, trembling with the effort of keeping still under the perfect, perfect sensation of this man, whom she barely knew, touching her just the way she craved.
He kissed her throat, teeth nipping at her skin just softly enough not to leave marks. “You like that, baby?”
“Yes,” she moaned, her vocabulary very quickly regressing to “yes,” “Chef,” various expletives, and “Rowan.”
Rowan’s fingers moved faster when she breathed his name, his rough pace and the lovely, absolutely filthy things he whispered against her neck sending her hurtling into sudden climax, her walls clenching around his fingers.
He swore he almost came in his pants right there as she softly moaned his name, muffling her cries like the good girl he knew she was. Fuck, what he wouldn’t give to take her home and hear all of her noises unhindered.
“Good girl,” he murmured into her ear, relishing in the way her whole body shuddered at the praise. He withdrew his fingers, groaning at the way her arousal coated his hand, lifted his fingers to his mouth, and licked them clean. His eyes, already blown out with desire, went nearly black as he tasted her, sucking his own fingers clean. Knitting his free hand back into her hair, he kissed her fiercely, making her taste herself on his tongue.
Aelin started to slide down the door to return the favor, but he stopped her, his hands surprisingly gentle as he placed her back on her feet, shaking his head. “I want to,” she breathed. “Please, Rowan. Chef.”
“Not now,” he murmured. “If I’m not inside you in the next thirty seconds, I think I’m actually going to die.”
She couldn’t contain her grin at that.
He, of course, noticed. “Sass, baby?” His lips brushed the corner of her jaw and she shivered as she felt him sliding his pants down enough for his hard cock to spring out and press against her, his breath fanning hot on her skin. “I’ll have to fuck that out of you, won’t I?”
A whimpering moan was her only answer as fresh arousal rushed through her, definitely ruining her panties. He just chuckled, the dark sound rumbling around the bathroom. Then he looked into her eyes, confirming that she was ready, lined himself up, and slid into her. And in. And in. She was shuddering, walls fluttering around him, as he bottomed out, giving her a moment to adjust before rolling his hips into hers. She met his motions, her hands gripping his shoulders with a surprising amount of strength as he thrust into her, their moans and gasps mingling.
“Close,” she whimpered. “Please, chef. Please.”
“Since you asked so nicely,” he purred, one hand sliding between them to play with her clit, just what she needed to tumble headlong into another orgasm, her tight heat clenching around him and sending him spilling into her. “Good girl,” he panted as their bodies stilled, pulling out and tucking himself back into his pants before getting some wet towels to clean her up.
“You did so well for me,” he praised, tossing the dirty towels in the trash.
“This...” Aelin trailed off, flushing a little as she righted her clothes. “This won’t affect the class in any way?”
“Besides me not being able to keep my eyes off you, baby?” He shook his head, sincerity on his face. “No. I promise it won’t.”
“Thank you,” she said softly. “Really, Rowan. Thank you.”
He kissed her cheek, the gesture shockingly tender. “See you...um, around?” He scratched the back of his neck a little awkwardly.
Prompt!
Aelin's horrible at cooking so when Aedion makes a bet that she can't learn how to cook in a month. So she starts going to cooking classes and the chef is Rowan
let me tell you, Rowan with a chef's knife took my mind in a whole new direction *facepalm* why am I like this?? thank you for the prompt!!! <3
Chaos In The Kitchen
“Fucking hell, Ae!” Aedion cried, waving his hands in front of his face in a futile effort to dissipate the cloud of smoke filling the kitchen. “Are you trying to burn down the fucking house?”
“No!” Aelin shrieked, stabbing at the smoke detector until it stopped beeping and running to open the kitchen window. “I’m trying to make fucking breakfast!”
Aedion raised one blonde brow at the blackened remains of bacon in the frying pan atop the stove. “You forget about the bacon or something?”
“Shut the fuck up,” she groaned, swatting him with a dish towel. “I did not forget, I was watching it closely while I mixed up the pancake batter.”
“And you turned away for one second and the bacon was smoking?”
“Asshole,” she grumbled. “No. I watched it, and then the piece of shit started sending up smoke.”
Her cousin doubled over, wheezing with laughter. “Only you, Ae,” he managed to gasp between guffaws. “Only you.”
“Asshole,” she repeated, laughing a little, wryly, herself. “I’m trying my best, Aeds. It doesn’t look like it, but I am.”
“You’re chaos in the kitchen, Ae,” Aedion grinned, slinging his arm around her shoulders. “I would pay to see the day where you manage to cook something without setting off the smoke detector.”
“Would you?” Sly challenge sparked in her eyes.
“Oh, for damn sure.” Aedion met her challenging gaze, wicked glee in his eyes. “In fact, let’s make a bet on it.”
Internally, Aelin groaned. The last bet she’d taken with her cousin had ended in her hair being dyed bright green for a month, and she wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to accept another of his lopsided wagers. “And just what kind of sure-win bullshit are you thinking of, Aeds?”
“I bet that you could take cooking classes for a month and still not know how to cook,” he smirked. “You win, I’ll pay for the lessons and shut up about you in the kitchen. I win, you have to go out with my friend.” His smirk grew. “So, do we have a bet?”
She raised her brows. “Define ‘knowing how to cook,’ oh wiseass cousin of mine.”
“You don’t set off the smoke detector and the food is edible.”
“And the friend?”
He clicked his tongue. “Mmm-mmm, Ae. Blind date.”
Aelin tilted her head, considering. Aedion paying for her to take cooking lessons...and shutting the hell up about her ineptitude in the kitchen...or a blind date with a friend of his? How could she possibly lose? “Fine. We have a bet.” She clasped his hand and shook, sealing it. “Same rules as always, Aeds?”
“Yep.” He winked. “No sabotage and no finding out about the other person’s consequences.”
“Right.” Aelin smirked at her smug cousin. “It’s a bet.”
~
Three hundred fucking dollars, Aelin grumbled to herself as she locked up her car and headed across the parking lot, and they couldn’t be bothered to give us basic cooking stuff? She checked her bag once more to make doubly sure she had all the things they’d told her to bring when she registered for these classes. A couple of wooden spoons, a whisk, a couple of spatulas, a set of measuring cups, and her own apron. Bloody cheap, it was. At least she was hopeful that she’s get her money’s worth, because she’d spent a ridiculously long time looking up all the available cooking classes in Orynth and reading the reviews to be sure she’d actually learn something.
No way in hell was Aedion winning this damn bet.
Hyssop for Hyssop, bluebell for Seras (and if I'm allowed to ask abotu Sylvana, also Sylvana), camelia for Joana, dahlia for Endymion, sweet pea for Mikolaj and Cosette, begonia for Eden (I'll stop here cuz this is getting long <3 )
Hyssop
Hyssop: Do they have a god/religion they feel strongly about?
UNFORTUNATELY, I don’t have him in a particular setting yet so I can’t say ~for sure~ I think out of all of the canon d&d gods though, he’d most vibe with Kelemvor. Assuming he had access to the same canon mythology and I would use Kelemvor 100%, I could really see Hyssop being an earnest devotee to him.
Seras
Bluebell: What's their most embarrassing memory?
When she was 11 years old, she stole a potion of fire breathing from an adventuring devotee of Aube who had come to stay at the Fleche de L’Aube to impress Alexandre. She ended up burning down half the temple gardens and burning down Alexandre’s favorite Azalea bush. :(
Sylvanna
Bluebell: What's their most embarrassing memory?
When she was in grade school, Sylvanna got reprimanded in front of the whole class for bringing in her own live frog to dissect and casting a silence spell on it to keep it quiet while she worked on it. Only embarrassed that she got caught.
Joana
Camellia: Do you have a particular song that always reminds you of them?
Stay With Me by Matsubara Miki. Nothing about the lyrics, but I can't help but imagine her studying and dancing around her house to this. Joana would be a sucker for Japanese 80s City Pop.
Endymion
Dahlia: What's your favorite thing about them?
I love how much I’m able to express myself in him. Of course, he's fun to write and even more fun to roleplay, but when I'm at my worst, I turn to Endy. Expressing my struggles through him helps me feel empathy for myself and he’s gotten me through some really rough times. He’s my special boy and I love him so dearly.
Mikolaj
Sweet pea: If you had to choose a favorite dessert for them, what would it be?
Dark chocolate raspberry coffee cake with a little bit of creme on the side.
Cosette
Sweet pea: If you had to choose a favorite dessert for them, what would it be?
Vanilla Macarons and candied lemon slices.
Eden
Begonia: Do they have any specific irrational fears?
Whales. She loves the ocean and everything in it but they are so big and she is so small. Plus her papa always told her that if she was in the water with a whale at the wrong moment that its calls could make her go deaf and she is NOT willing to challenge this theory.
Thank you for the ask, dear <3
Join Me: I’ll write a drabble about my character giving your character an offer
“Aren’t you tired?” they ask, genuine sympathy on their marble features. They know what it is, perhaps more than anyone else he knows, to devote yourself completely to someone, to twine your life inextricably to theirs, to damn the consequences and follow them wherever they may lead you. The difference is this: Jove’s devotion is returned. Jove and Persia will choose each other over everything, over and over and over again. Selene will never choose her guard over her kingdom, if she feels anything for him at all, it is nothing like what he feels for her - what Persia and Jove feel for each other. Yes, Jove would wait an eternity for her love without a heartbeat’s hesitation, but Persia, the other half of their soul, would never ask it.
“Aren’t you tired of waiting for her? Waiting on her?” They lean towards him, gaze piercing. “You know it’s not going to change, do you not? As long as she is The Moon Princess, as long as she has her empire, she is never going to let herself be yours.” They don’t wait for him to try and argue, but he has to know it’s true, that Selene will never get off her silver throne and meet him as an equal. Not unless -
“But if you help us, all of that can change. No kingdoms to stand between you, no duty to bind her, finally free to do as she wishes. I won’t ask you to stand against her in the battlefield, only for a whisper here and there. Just enough to turn the tide. I swear on my life that not another soul will ever know, and that if you do this thing no harm will come to you or your princess when all of this is over. You don’t have to answer right now, but please Endymion, think about it.”
“I’m not asking you to betray her, I’m offering you a chance to set her free.”
WIP Wednesday
Here we are again 💜
-8 of my 20 nursing CEs are done. I’ve still got a week, what’s the rush?
-40 out of the 63 squares needed for the Jack Skellington granny square baby blanket are completed (though the ends aren’t yet woven in), so that’s something.
-Once More, with Feeling! Ch 13 doesn’t really have much more to show for it right now, so no snippets from that one
-For Smutember, I only have one active story at this time, but the event lasts the whole month, so I’ll hopefully crank out one more before it ends.
I decided to use “Sex with an Ex” to explore an aged up Break Up arc.
Please enjoy this pretty raw snippet!*
*Details subject to change at the whim of the-never-satisfied writer
Chiba Mamoru….
With a start, Mamoru spun towards the voice, noting during his turn he was no longer in his apartment, but on the moon that fateful day millennia ago. Gone were the black slacks and dark blue button-up shirt he’d worn to class that day (“This shirt is my favorite,” Usagi had whispered in his ear after he dressed, her hands dragging down the fabric, “because it’s the same color as your eyes.”) The heaviness of his body, even in the Moon’s lower gravity, told Mamoru he was wearing Endymion’s armor.
The air reeked of spent magic and death; the ground littered with the bodies of the fallen.
Despite the plumes of thick, black smoke and haze from the still burning fires, Mamoru easily spotted the lone figure standing amidst the rubble, its face hidden beneath the hood of an oversized cloak
.…you must stay away from Tsukino Usagi…
Rising in challenge, Mamoru’s right hand fell to the grip of his sword. “Who are you?” he demanded, managing to keep his tone even and firm despite his hammering pulse. “Why should I listen to anything you have to say?”
Should you refuse, then Tsukino Usagi, no Princess Serenity… The figure raised its arm, revealing a thin, gnarled hand. Two boney fingers with sharp nails pointed somewhere behind Mamoru …will be met with great tragedy…
For the Character Ask: Sailor Jupiter! (Makoto Kino 💚)
@superpixie42 you just happened to pick my favorite of the Sailor Senshi for this ask! I am VERY happy to answer some questions about one of my favorite Mako-chans! (Tachibana Makoto from Free! is the other 😂) I pulled out my SM manga for this one for the first time in a LONG time 🥰
Favorite thing about them
Makoto is a walking antithesis. She is tall, and fierce, and it's rumored that she was kicked out of her previous school for fighting. The other girls are intimidated by her, but it's Usagi who sees something more in Makoto, and she's right to do so. Makoto IS tall, and strong, and fierce, but she's also loving, and nurturing, and protective. She loves her friends. She's a fabulous cook. And she will do ANYTHING to protect her friends and do her just duty. I love Makoto's ability to show her power in one moment, and her vulnerability in the next. Her size (she cannot fit into the regular girls' uniform) is a source of anxiety for her, even though the other girls (Usagi especially) admire her and find her incredibly beautiful AND strong. She should have more confidence in herself, because she's amazing!
Least favorite thing about them
See above: I wish that Makoto had more confidence in herself. Like lean into that majesty, girl!
Favorite line
To Asamuna, when they are talking about Asamuna's suspicions that Makoto and her friends have special powers (and this is from the manga): "I've finally found the understanding friends I've always been searching for. I cherish them more than anything else."
brOTP
Tenou Haruka. I adore Haruka too, because she's powerful, comfortable in her skin and in her identity, and dngaf about others. Makoto could use some of Haruka's confidence, and I love the idea of them hanging out together, being that kind of positive influence that Makoto desperately needs. I can totally see them going out on the town together, Haruka taking Makoto shopping, and telling her that she looks beautiful in everything. It would be so fun and cute!
OTP
Oh my gosh, I love Asumuna for her--he is so sweet, and wants desperately to protect her. Makoto deserves someone who adores her, and Asumuna does just that. And I was rereading those scenes in the manga as I've been answering these, and they are WONDERFUL. But just to drop this in as an idea--Ami would be a great match for Makoto too! Hard-working and largely self-sufficient, Ami also needs the kind of love that Makoto would be able to provide for her (I'm getting all misty thinking about it).
nOTP
I know that we're supposed to pair the Inner Senshi with Endymion's guardians, and that Makoto often gets paired with Nephirte, but I really want her with someone with whom she can really tap into that nurturing side, and I think there are better options for her out there. (Plus, poor Makoto has had enough angst in her life--she really deserves the best 💚)
Random headcanon
We all know Usagi thinks Makoto makes incredible food, but the person who Makoto really loves to cook for is Ami. Ami's mother works long hours, and Ami is busy attending cram school and studying, and she doesn't have a lot of time to eat healthy foods. Makoto sees this, and always takes the time to make sure that Ami is eating properly, whether it be a bento at lunch, or inviting her over for dinner.
Unpopular opinion
I don't really like that Takeuchi puts poor Makoto in a different uniform all for the sake of heightening poor Makoto's feelings of difference. Like I want to see her own that she has to wear something different! She's the precursor to Luisa Madrigal in a lot of ways, and deserves to get to be just as badass.
Song i associate with them
Something sweet, like Sixpence None the Richer's "There She Goes"
Favorite picture of them
I had to go back to the manga for this, but I love the first time that we meet Makoto -- this MAY have caused me to go out and buy rose earrings 😅 (look how pretty she is 🥺)
Thanks again Pixie dear! This Character Ask was really fun, as it got me to go revisit one of my favorite mangas (one of the few that I've carried with me from place to place over the years), and revisit my favorite character from that series.
Deleted scene from Ch.7 of Aut Viam Invendiam Aut Faciam - AO3 link
Set days after the trio left District 11. The aftermath for Reaper.
~~~~~
Reaper expects that to be the end of things after he’d seen those trio reunite with their parents. And for the following three days, nothing is out of the ordinary.
That is until Tuesday afternoon, once he’s off school, he finds a Peacekeeper at their door. His heart drops at the sight – nothing good is bound to come from this.
`
“Reaper,” his mother says, cautiously. “We have a visitor.”
Already, his mind is scrambling for what reason they might be here. Had someone seen him helping the trio sneak into the principal’s office? Was he being punished for it?
The Peacekeeper glanced at him. “You’re Reaper Ash?”
“Yes.” A sharp look from his mother has him tacking on a, “Ma’am.”
“Here.” An envelope is thrust into his hands and without another word, the Peacekeeper leaves.
`
Quickly, his mother pulls him into the house, locking the door behind them. “Reaper.” She bent down to his level, eyes full of worry and her grip on his shoulders tight, but not enough to hurt. “What happened recently?”
He glanced down to the envelope, where his full name was written in a slanted, sharp sort of cursive, then back to her. “There was this girl.”
~~~~
Reaper doesn’t want to think about how her family had found his address.
Inside the envelope is a wad of bills. He didn’t understand why his mother looked so relieved to see them broken up into small bills rather than one or two bank notes.
Nevertheless, the amount isn’t what interests him, it’s the notes. The first reads, ‘Thanks from one parent to another’ amongst other lines, this one is signed by Endymion Dovecote and is the same hand that had written his name on the envelope.
The other comes from Clemensia which contains a thank you note.
`
“Look at you, sweeping pretty girls off their feet,” teases his uncle over dinner that night. “You’ve raised a real prince charming, Ceres,” he tells his mother.
Reaper’s mouth opened in protest. “I never said she was pretty.”
“But was she?”
His mouth closed, unable to deny the words and the rest of the adults at the table laughed.
“Helping them was a good thing this time,” adds his father. “But you’ll have to be careful. Not everyone from the Capitol is like this girl of yours.”
write a letter to your inner child + i'll tell you what flower you've blossomed into
Barb
a poppy, for remembrance - "through the dancing poppies stole a breeze most softly lulling to my soul." — john keats, endymion (1818), book I, line 565. — you seem to mourn your past, as your inner child has died. you've been through your battles yet still have an immense amount of hope for the future. a yearning for peace of mind is what you have when you try to look for the sparks you've once felt in your life. but remember, you will no longer have to fight or defend yourself after you grow in a field where the vibrance of your petals are commemorated.
Chrissy
a wallflower, quietly standing still - “it takes as much time to build walls sturdy enough for wallflowers like you and me to lean against as it does for us to bloom.” ― ayokunle falomo, thread, this wordweaver must! — you're comfortable with being left alone, yet perhaps there are slivers of empty cracks you wish to fill with joy. staying at the side lines, on the side walk, by the wall... these are all places you are used to being in. you're trying to find a way to grow in other places, farther away from what you've always known. the inner child within seeks to reach further out into the world. perhaps it's scared, has some anxiety, and wishes to cling onto the past... but only time will tell — your beauty is nevertheless a silent and distant sort, lingering.
(I still have no icons for him, I’m so sorry 😪)
Gareth
a dandelion, rapidly growing in the field - “dandelions, like all things in nature are beautiful when you take the time to pay attention to them.” ― june stoyer — your resilience is what's gotten you very far in life. those who have trampled and picked on you made it easier for you to spread your seeds — the bright yellow petals you once had, certainly transformed into white, delicate whispies. They floated away into a distance, only to provide you with new opportunities for you to grow your thoughts, ideas, and feelings in other places— that were perhaps harder for them to reach before. even though you've felt unwanted, you nevertheless continued to thrive where other flowers could not.
Kent
a rose, bold and full of thorns - “but he who dares not grasp the thorn should never crave the rose.” ― anne bronte — you have always been someone who had strong boundaries. your past troubles led you to become someone who needed to protect themselves ― it has been difficult to let people close to you, as your thorns were defense mechanisms to keep you from getting hurt. only those who are able to handle the intensity within you, are capable of holding you. they are willing to do so because they've been hurt before too... so perhaps, your inner child chooses to attract the people who have the vigour and passion you yearn for in this life.
Rosemary
a hibiscus, with rare and delicate beauty - “...scarlet hibiscus looked too bright for this devastated world.” ― jane wilson-howarth, snowfed waters — you thrive in the warmest conditions, and it helps attract more beauty to your vibrant petals. hummingbirds and butterflies: symbols of healing, joy, and transformation are themes throughout your life, as they find you wherever you are. your brightness and abundance of sweetness allows them to appreciate the life you live — you are a generous giver, selfless, and have a heart full of gold deep down inside. the inner child wants you to continue sharing parts of you to those who deserve it, but be wary of those who suck and drain out all of your energy.
Cardinal King 3: Bright Future (Ch 7)
Last Time, on Cardinal King:
South has suspicions about this 'bright future' they put together, mainly the noticeable lack of political allies in this world-threatening situation; North backs him, and, together, they learn from Helios just what miracle the missing King of Crystal Tokyo managed before he disappeared.
Recalling Sailor Pluto's key as being in Mamoru's possession before he disappeared, South and North leave Mercury in charge of the control room and go in search of Rin, hoping the kid could lead them to the Door of Time and, from there, see if Pluto could locate or contact Mamoru through to key. The young boy is nowhere to be found, but the pair find a helpful talking kitten to lead them...
Chapter Seven: Elysion and the Garden of Dreams
He ran, throwing everything he had at the enormous creature that strode purposefully through the city of thorns, but to no avail. It barely responded, even as he fired a concentrated beam of golden light from his rose sword. It just got faster, moved farther from him, and no matter how hard he ran he was getting farther and farther behind. He jumped, he flew, but he was batted away effortlessly with one swing of its gigantic tail and landed hard in a thicket of briars. Trapped, he slashed with his sword, kicked his way towards the path of destruction in its wake, ripped and pulled against how his clothing stuck to the thorns and held him back. He couldn’t let it reach the castle. Everything pushed him back, the briars grew thicker before him - with every step forward he moved three steps back, and still, the footsteps of the monster boomed and shook the land around it. It yelled a challenge, deep voice bellowing, and people - humans - screamed. He had to help them! But the vines grew thicker, blocking out the light -
“Endymion!” someone called, but he knew it was a trick. If he joined hands with her he would gain the power to aid the monster, not destroy it. He pushed on, struggling against the press of thorns and the pull of the voice from the darkness behind him.
“Endymion!” it called again, but the voice was different - deeper, less feminine - and as his sword was ripped from his hand and moved beyond his reach, he did not follow its progress with his eyes. He had to ignore the voice, to focus on the enemy. His hands open wide, palms out, he threw another blast of energy outward, but the plants only grew -
“Mamoru!”
He paused - the enemy had not used his name, only his title - but it was his folly, as in pausing a hand reached out from behind him, clasped his shoulder, and pulled. He fell back into the dark, the thorns disappearing alongside the light…
And suddenly he was in a vast field of flowers, the ethereal light soft about him, thousands of whispering voices moving like the wind through the air all around. Where had he just been? He turned, not quite willing to accept the sudden peacefulness of his new surroundings, suspicious of a threat hiding just beyond his sight - but instead of monsters or friends he couldn’t lead to truth, he found a twilit sky and an idyllic forest, before which was a structure carved of white stone. It was familiar, though the roses that grew around it, the vines that crept up its pillars and around its arches were new, rather than something out of his memory. Barely within the structure stood a figure that, for all the world, looked like he would prefer to rush towards him but held back, his appearance half-hidden in the fading light.
Calm as opposed to apprehensive, Mamoru stepped towards him. As he walked, fireflies took off all around, taking to the sky as hundreds of stars to light his way, and the figure in the gazebo relaxed his stance, disappointed, but stood taller and waited patiently for his arrival. Firefly light reflected off of the golden horn protruding from his head, and Mamoru recognized him all at once: Helios. As he stepped up the stone stairs to the platform beneath the crossing white archways the fireflies dispersed, their light filling the fields with a soft glow and reflecting off the peacefully still lake between this structure and the castle far beyond.
“Mamoru,” Helios greeted with a slight bow to his head. In just his name alone, Mamoru knew this was not his Helios, but rather the guardian of Crystal Tokyo’s time. Which meant this was Elysion, just as the familiarity suggested.
“Elysion is beautiful,” he replied, moving to rest one hand on the stone railing as he looked over the lake, only to find his hand wasn’t entirely there; he could see through it as easily as they had seen through the High Priest’s form back in the castle. His heart sank, and he tried to push past the disappointment and despair the realization brought.
Helios joined him, his form solid, his footsteps resounding against the wooden floor beneath them. “Thank you,” he replied, amber-colored eyes forward, “It took some time to restore it to its original state, and more to transform it into the paradise you see before you, but it was a labor of love.”
“I can feel it,” Mamoru replied, taking a deep breath of the cool air in an attempt to calm the bitter emotions building in his chest, but no amount of deep breathing, even in this atmosphere of peace and tranquility, would ever overcome the knowledge that he had failed them.
Helios turned to him as though sensing it. “Are you alright?” he asked, placing his solid hand on Mamoru’s ghostly shoulder and somehow Mamoru felt it.
He turned away from the sight of the lake and the castle beyond, “As well as could be expected, given the circumstances,” he replied, unable to keep the note of sourness from his tone. He was dead, Elysion now his own personal Elysium, made so through the connection he had to it. Would the others meet him here, eventually? Sooner, perhaps, rather than later, thanks to him? … should they try to visit him before that time, would he be able to interact with them, or would he be a ghost? Obviously Helios could speak with him - the ability of his sort of priest? Through him, he could at least apologize for not being more careful, for not being able to carry through with their plan. For letting them down. For leaving them. For leaving her. “Do they know?” he asked, his heart a stone in his chest.
“Not yet -” Helios began to say, but Mamoru interrupted.
“It’d be better to let them know now, rather than wait,” he said, his hand curling into a fist on the railing. “Maybe in your time they’ve grown past this, but Kaito thinks better knowing all the pieces and Khalid would need to change whatever plan he had in the works to include that I wasn’t coming back. Try to give Nero something to punch and Yuu somewhere to go. They’ll get past it, but it’d be better hearing from you than hearing from Metallia or Beryl or one of their lackeys.”
“So Beryl has turned?” Helios asked.
Right. Information. He nodded his head curtly. “Metallia took advantage of her feelings towards me and the Moon Kingdom and Serenity and worked up a story around them. She hasn’t completely transformed, like the three others in the videos, but she’s beginning to.”
“Has she spoken of Metallia’s origin?” Helios asked.
“The version she made for Beryl, in any case,” Mamoru replied, reporting, “She said she was the original guardian of the Sun, and that when the Moon Kingdom was settled they sealed her away to usurp her power. She said that she sent her soul gem to Earth before it could be sealed away so it could be joined with Earth’s gem to create the Golden Crystal, to protect Earth in her place.” Helios sucked in a breath and Mamoru turned to face him, his brows furrowing, his report stopped. The pale guardian’s mouth was in a tight line, a crease in his brow; his hands were in fists by his side, and the confidence Mamoru had in the story being false suddenly wavered. “Is it true?” he asked, afraid for the answer to be true and find that not only was the Moon Kingdom foreign to the system entirely but that Serenity’s predecessors had entered the system as enemies.
“It is not her story, no,” Helios stated carefully, the calm in his tone backed by hot anger. “Not entirely, in any case. But from it, we can glean the bits of truth she hid to make it more believable.” Helios turned and leaned his back against the railings of the gazebo, his elbows propped as he considered.
“What parts aren’t her story?” Mamoru asked carefully.
“She was never the guardian of the Sun,” Helios stated, “Metallia was not responsible for sending its soul crystal to combine with Earth’s, and that process was done long before the Moon Kingdom was settled.”
He had questions.
“The Golden Crystal isn’t of Earth, then?”
Helios shook his head, looking towards him, “It is entirely of Earth, don’t confuse yourself - it is simply additionally protected by the Sun.”
“But what does that --”
“Nothing,” Helios interrupted with authority, but as Mamoru looked to him the guardian’s eyes softened. “The Sun’s protection is passive, it is not something you can harness, so tuck that information away for what it is - a miscellaneous fact.”
Mamoru turned more to face him, the quandary still jumping around in his head. Protected by the Sun? Could he have… … but that was all irrelevant now, wasn’t it? “And how did you learn of this ‘miscellaneous fact’, if it is from so long ago?” Mamoru asked in an effort to refocus himself on things he could potentially help with, rather than chasing a rabbit down holes that would lead him nowhere.
Helios fixed him with a critical stare before cautiously replying, “I was there.” To Mamoru’s incredulous look, he shrugged, adding, “Kind of.” His gaze shifted to the field of flowers Mamoru had come from and stated, “Your miracle on the battlefield that night was not the first time souls have been reincarnated; mine just so happens to come from a little further in the past.”
“A little?” Mamoru repeated, in his own opinion taking the revelation quite well.
Helios smiled, “Well, maybe a lot further. A couple millennia, give or take. And no,” he said, sliding his gaze back to Mamoru, “Your Helios has not realized that yet, so try not to mention it to him.”
He nodded absentmindedly, putting pieces together - “It was you, then?” he asked, but to Helios’s confusion, he elaborated - “You were the guardian of the Sun?”
Helios’s eyes dropped, staring at the pale planks of wood at their feet. He shook his head, “No,” then added, wistfully, “but we were friends.” He paused, “In the end, he did sacrifice himself to combine his Sol crystal with the crystal of Earth, but it was not to protect Earth against the Moon Kingdom, but an enemy far more dangerous and ancient.” Helios cleared his throat, “He had no regrets and was not sealed away. That Metallia knew that the crystals combined, though, means it - she - whatever knows about that,” he looked up thoughtfully, “else could sense the sun’s power in the Golden Crystal and made up parts of a tale that coincidentally was close to the truth.”
Helios had known the guardian of the Sun and his reasons for doing what he did to protect Earth... “Did you choose to be reborn?” he asked, drawing the Priest’s attention from the purple sky above.
“I did,” he said, fixing his gaze on Mamoru. “He loved this planet so much he forfeited his soul towards its protection; the least I could do is stick around and offer what guidance I can to his successors.” He half-smiled, but that smile soon faded, “And protect that memory. Metallia probably doesn’t know about that old enemy, but the part of the story about the Moon Kingdom is probably true - it may have been sealed away by them, thus the grudge it has against them, and the Queen by extension.
He paused, “So Beryl was manipulated due to how recent the fight against Diana and the Moon Kingdom was, in your time? An ancient grudge against the Moon Kingdom would make more sense than the reason Diana had, wouldn’t it?” he mused, “And Beryl’s loyalty would align her with Metallia, in Metallia’s telling. Were you able to confront her?”
“Yes and no,” Mamoru replied, crossing his arms. “She wouldn’t believe anything that I said; Metallia convinced her that both the Earth and I am under the Moon’s influence, and until that influence is erased I’ll do and say whatever it takes to protect Usako, or Queen Serenity or Princess Serenity or whomever she’s imagining as the person holding the strings.”
“Ah,” Helios said, nodding his head, a scowl on his lips, “Right. That would carry weight with her in that time.” He let out a breath and grew quiet, considering.
“But not this time?” Mamoru asked, prompting an answer, anxious to hear what had become of their dynamic in Rin’s time. Helios gave him a look, as though reminding him it wasn’t good to know too much about the future, even if it was no longer his, but he was dead. There was nothing he could do with that information, no path he could damage. He reasoned, “If she knew of her place in this future, of how she herself fared, maybe she can be convinced that Metallia isn’t completely truthful. She would trust her future-self’s judgement - Khalid could use that in an attempt to convince her to give up Metallia. If the Beryl from this time is awake, and not comatose somewhere like everyone else is, her appearance could be enough to tip the scales -”
Helios shook his head; while thoughtful, he took the time to briefly explain, “That’s not possible.”
Mamoru waited for further explanation, but when none was forthcoming he had to assume… “She died?” His stomach lurched. She had had no soul - if she had died… he may be stuck here, but at least he was still himself. He was still experiencing things, he had an ‘afterlife’, but she…
“No,” Helios denied, looking over at him sharply and punctuating the answer with a short shake of his head, repeating, “No, she’s not dead. She’s just… elsewhere.”
“Elsewhere?”
“Not on Earth or the Moon. She met someone and is travelling with them - happily, from what her letters have suggested.” Travelling? … through space? “She found love and is spending the years exploring with them; there is no way to contact her now, but even if we could, she would never be able to make it back here in time. But that... “ he considered, “maybe we could use that.” He turned to him, nodding, moving on - “Where are you being held?”
Being held? His body? He shook his head; even if they wanted to recover it he couldn’t be much help in locating it. “Somewhere in space,” he said, the last word sounding as incredulous out of his mouth as it had in his mind. “It was moving - a meteoroid, maybe? It wasn’t large, from the perspective I could see, anyway. No physical horizon outside the room I was being kept in. It was dark, so potentially moving towards the Sun and inner system? If it was passing by planets, none were so close that I could make them out among the stars.” He breathed out, “That’s where Metallia and Beryl are; she was draining me, had Beryl believing that we were ‘sharing’ the energy because the golden crystal was originally hers. I don’t know how we got there, but, unless they left as soon as I died, she’s not on Earth. There’s no time to worry about recovering my body, though -”
“Mamoru,” Helios interrupted warily, straightening up to put his hand back on his shoulder, leaning in sincerely as he said, “You’re not dead.” He…? Helios straightened, using his free hand to indicate the world around them. “Elysion is, currently, a land of dreams. You’re just dreaming - the first dream you’ve had since you left. I was able to pull you out to speak with you. You’re still alive, and we’ll figure out where your body is and bring it back as soon as we can. While you’re here, you’re safe; King Endymion has spread his protection to every soul sheltered here, including his younger self’s, it seems.” He released him, looking up and to the left, as though getting ready to leave, “I’ll keep you apprised of what is going on up there, but for now I’ll tell them what you were able to tell me and see what we can do with it. Thank you,” he said, turning back to him. “This could help -”
“Let me go back,” he said, steeling his resolve. If he was alive, he could help. He had more options to try. “I can try again - I can work on convincing her -”
Helios immediately shook his head, taking hold of his wrist as though to keep him in place, “No, Mamoru. If you’re here, you’re safe; if you go back she just may drain you of everything, and then where would we be? Stay here -”
“No,” Mamoru said, shaking his head, pulling his arm free of the Priest’s grasp. “I’m not leaving everyone to face this while I just sit out on the sidelines, safe and sound. I can still try to help.” He implored, “If I can stop them before Metallia’s ready to return to Earth, then she won’t be able to attack Crystal Tokyo again.” He could tell Beryl where the Golden Crystal really came from, about why Metallia had to go to the past to find her because her future self knew better than to ally herself with a lie. He’d just have to figure out a way around the energy drain. “If I run into trouble again, I’ll just… start dreaming again,” he said, as though he had any control over that. How many times had he passed out, only to dream that last time? “I can tell you what I’ve learned, you can use it to prepare, or modify the plans you guys come up with while I’m away.” He caught his eye, “We need all the help we can get. Let me keep helping.”
Helios returned his gaze steadily… but then took in a breath and let it out, conceding. “Just deciding to dream around her isn’t exactly something you can control, but there may be another way.” He walked down the short stair, leaving the canopied gazebo, and stooped to pick a single red rose before returning. “Jadeite says you have one of Pluto’s keys. If you must return instead of staying safely here, then use it immediately to escape next time your life is threatened. No matter what happens because of it, don’t die there.”
He nodded. The key. He hadn’t felt it on his person, hadn’t seen it in his reflection, but he had not given it to anyone - it must still be with him somewhere.
“I still think this is a bad idea,” Helios said, “Are you sure?” He nodded again, taking a breath to prepare himself. Helios offered him the flower, and he took it. “Treat that as a talisman,” he instructed, “Keep your thoughts trained on it, and you’ll find the strength to move. Now wake up,” Helios said, pulling hard on the arm that held the flower to throw him off balance. As he fell over the steps of the raised structure, Helios whispered when he passed, “Good luck.”
He awoke in an entirely different place than he had before. It wasn’t Elysion. His body was solid. It wasn’t a dream. But he was in a coffin of some sort and that wasn’t entirely reassuring. Focusing on the thought of the rose Helios had offered, he pushed out with his hand, but the clear, domed lid rose easily from atop him and he sat up. He was in a chamber made of eerily shaped stone, the walls looking like they were veined, as was the floor around the dias holding the coffin he was in; before him, enormous, glowing deep orange-yellow with darkness pulsing at its center, was some sort of bulb made out of the rock itself, like a seed suspended between floor and ceiling, and the energy it gave off gave him chills -
“Endymion!” a voice called gratefully, but he couldn’t take his eyes off the evil mass. Was that Metallia?
“YOU SEE, MY CHILD? I BROUGHT HIM BACK. FOR YOU. I WOULD NEVER DO YOU HARM,” a voice like an earthquake resounded in the chamber, making it shake - or, rather, making him shake. He breathed carefully, moved carefully, not quite sure of what was going on or if he could use whatever was happening to his advantage in trying to convince Beryl to listen to the truth - She was there, suddenly, her eyes nearly as orange as the glowing orb behind her, her hair a deeper, brighter shade of red, her face shallower, more angular. Her shoulders… there was something wrong with there, a protrusion, sharp and pointed, like a horn or a fang -- she cupped his face, bringing him closer to her; he moved with her rather than fight her, not sure yet whether Metallia realized she had not, in fact, brought him back, but Helios had sent him back. If she believed the former, maybe he could --?
“Endymion!” Beryl repeated, and even her voice was a little different - deeper, wider, somehow. “Are you alright?!”
“HE WILL BE FINE, THOUGH UNABLE TO ANSWER YOU FOR A TIME,” Metallia answered for him, and something pulled at his hand, dragging it to move - he let it happen. Let Metallia believe what she would; it would give him time, at least. His hand encircled Beryl’s wrist, and she smiled, stepping back to give him room. His body moved to get out of the raised case; it was an odd sensation, like he was some sort of puppet, but he worked with it. “SOON HE SHALL BE FREE OF THE MOON’S INFLUENCE. TAKE HIM TO HIS ROOM, AND WE WILL MAKE FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR THE FINAL STEP.”
Final step? His heart hammered; he didn’t have much time.
Beryl pulled him along and he followed, a door suddenly appearing in the chamber wall where none had been before. As it closed behind them, sealing them away from the sight of the formless mass that was Metallia, she spoke. “I thought I lost you, but Metallia was able to reverse the mistake. Rest - once you’ve rested you’ll feel better -”
He thought of Elysion, pictured the red rose, and fought back against the puppeteering force and slowed. She held up, looking back at him quizzically, and he went for it. He shook his head, as though just waking up, and croaked, his voice breaking from strain, “She’s lying to you.”
Her brows furrowed, “What? No… Endymion, you’re not thinking clearly, remember? The Moon --”
“The Sun,” Mamoru interrupted, imploring her to listen, taking her hand to force her to stop and pay attention. The correction had given her pause and he tried to use it - “The Sun’s soul stone did combine with Earth’s, but it wasn’t Metallia that initiated it - Metallia wasn’t the Sun’s guardian, and the change happened long before Metallia.” Beryl’s mouth started to open and he implored further, “This isn’t about the Moon, Beryl. This is about the Sun and the Earth, and a force that is lying to you to get you to do what it says.” Her lips closed, brows furrowing further - “Can you take me somewhere where we can see the sun?” he asked, both to keep them moving and her focused and well as to orient him a little more. Her head tilted, looking up at him to examine him, and he held firm under her scrutinizing gaze. “We don’t have much time,” he said, and she swallowed, glanced back the way they had come, and pulled him onwards, changing their direction to a new stone-encased path.
“You know she went back in time to get you,” he bid as they walked. She no longer held on to him, “But do you know why?”
“... to show me what my future was supposed to be,” Beryl said quietly, “What it would be, if I helped her free you and the Earth -”
“Because she knew she couldn’t get to the you that is here,” he pushed. “You’re powerful, Beryl, and Metallia knows that, but the you from this time is happy and content - if what Metallia says is true, would you have overlooked something so devious for so long? If there was something substantial to what she said - if the Moon were really in control of me and held sway over the Earth, would you have been blind to it for so many years? I trust you more than that,” he said, catching up to her to look her in the eye as they walked. Her orange irises glanced up at him and then quickly away, red brows still furrowed, though in anger or thought was unclear. “You trust yourself more than that, don’t you?”
Ahead of them sunlight beamed through a break in the wall to their left, blinding in the corridor, and he slowed her down, just outside of its intense glow, and took her by the shoulders, avoiding the pointed horn protruding from the curve of either - “She’s using you by lying to you and manipulating you into working with her willingly - don’t let her. She’s seeking revenge against people who sealed her away and destroying life on Earth in the process. That’s not something you would ally yourself with, Beryl. I know that about you - the lengths you’ve gone to to protect Earth stands testament to that. Don’t let her change you. Renounce her and come with me.”
He let her go, stepping into the blinding light, and held out his hand to block the orb of the sun to see clearly. Ahead of them, a blue star shone brightly, and he inherently knew that it was no star. It was Earth. Too far away still to make out as a disc or a crescent, but close enough to pick it out from the background of stars. He felt at peace being able to see it, but that they were so close brought up new potential problems: how fast were they moving? Was this meteor on a crash-course?
“We can stop her,” he said, turning back to Beryl. “Will you help me?”
The ground shook beneath his feet and his body started to fall to it, but Beryl remained standing and he realized it wasn’t the ground - it was him. Metallia was pulling from him again. He thought of the rose, kept it focused in his minds’ eye. “We have to go, Beryl,” he pressed, reaching out for her, straining against the immense weight that pulled him down. Where was the key?
She stepped forward, hesitantly. “Endymion… No, Mamoru… I almost made a huge mistake,” she said, but took his hand. Relief swelled within him, but as the force increased, his free hand patted against his pocket, his chest, searching for the literal key to their escape.
“The key…” he managed to groan as he was forced to his knees, Beryl’s concerned expression over him suddenly turning to understanding. She reached into the pocket of her dress and pulled it out - Pluto’s little golden key, and he took it and her hand as well, focused on the rose, and raised it high, as he remembered Rin having done.
“Oh Lord of Time and Space, Chronos!” he called, his voice shaking with strain, and then the entire rock did start to shake, throwing Beryl off balance beside him, but he kept his hold on her and pressed on - “Listen to my call! Guide us to the Guardian of the Door - Sailor Pluto!”
The key exploded with light, enveloping them in a glow entirely different than that of the sun, and then…
They were gone.
CK Fun Fact!
:D I didn't have first names for the Kings for forever. Their last names are the typical color of their "power gems" (I... Earth Kingdom, please. ;u; find better phrase; I can't wait for Mercury to politely correct them), and then their first names were chosen later to reflect character traits~ This means that they are definitely not cutesy puns like Naoko had (;u; genius) or easy to keep track of... sorryboutthat ^^' And then their power gem colors have nothing to do with their uniform colors... haaa... haha... C= haa...
Kunzite became Kobai (pink! Which is great for familiarity because K's match, hooray!); his first name is Khalid, which is Arabic for Eternal, which :> I enjoy because he's my little angsty boy. And Arabic because he's only half-Japanese! He's originally from Iraq (as had a part referenced in the first arc!) (...which, the earth being round, puts him west of Japan, heeheeheeWestKing) BTW Khalid is a Scorpio! (November 10)
Nephrite became Midori (green!) and his first name is Nero (which!! Nero, Nephrite?? Same first letter, phew, look at that!). Nero means "strong and vigorous", which I think fits his personality and is foreign enough to stand out (another sticking point in the first arc xD) He's half Canadian (on his mother's side)! (and Canada is east of Japan so hohohohoho, EastKing) (...yes it was chosen to match Another Story, too)(also because there're nephrite mines in Canada)(and Diamond mines)(and he's the parallel "Princess D~" so ha xD) Nero was the first to start calling everyone by their first names, and Nero is a Pisces! (March 9)
Jadeite became Moegi (dark green!) and his first name is Yuu (whoops, no J's anywhere...) which means 'tenderness and superiority', both traits being his, just one a little more hidden than the other, hahahah XD Yuu is an Aries! (March 29)
Zoisite became Hanada (blue) Kaito (Sea of the North Star) (...because King of the North, I thought, picking out this very first first name, thinking I could be clever with this and failing miserably from that point forward). .-. I love Kaito and often flip flop on whether he or Nero is my favorite King and I feel guilty every time ranking my boys but whomp there it is. Kaito is a Gemini! (June 5)
What's that, their astrological sign?! Any importance? Why, reader~♥ :D no i mean i matched the sign to the personality i made for them using a website i wish i could remember because like it was matched to the specific day of that month that worked best for them with like ruling planet and backing planet to a ridiculous degree. Will that come up in another "Fun" fact?! Maybe. I like these. xD
Read on then.... well read on!
Thank you so much to those of you who read my AUs last week and reached out. It really made a difference. One note of clarification: This was not done by trolls or an unknown. These weren't guest reviews or critics on our works. These were other authors, ones we know and shared things with, ones we considered friends, that are now going around the fandom spreading lies about darkenedhrt, myself, and all of my friends. If it were just some guest talking crap, we would have ignored it and moved on. Because that's what we always do lol. Typically, I ignore people like these but they are attacking friends so I had to say something. Thank you again to those you have shown your support. DarkenedHrt loved all of your words. Those who read and review are the best people in this fandom. Those who just read are pretty awesome too.
Chapter 14
"I have poured my heart out ….
And now I am empty."
― Ranata Suzuki
He took in the sight of the warehouse, filled with bodies in motion. Neph sparred with Makoto and Kun with Minako. But he sparred with Zoi and Usagi with Jad. His irritation was on high that morning, having only dreams of his second life, fights with Usagi. She was absolutely adorable in all of them, blush raging on her cheeks and biting her lip when she tried to think of a comeback. He, however, was a complete jerk. Not much worse than how he treated Usagi when they met in this life. Or the life before that. Was he destined to make a bad first impression with her?
His focus was on her now, watching as she danced around. A punch here and a kick there, flipping back out of the way, spinning to catch Jad's jaw with her heel. It was definitely entertaining to watch such a small person get the upper hand on James.
Jad put a hand on her, somewhere he did not like and his irritation returned in spades. Allowing Zoi to knock him right in the jaw.
He took a step back, gripping his mouth and glaring at him. Zoi smirked, shrugging in response. "That's what you get for getting distracted. Although, I can't say I blame you."
They both looked up at the couple, the two of them up on the catwalk now.
"YOU TWO!"
They both jerked their heads, Kun glaring at them while Minako looked annoyed.
"Quit lollygagging!"
Zoi chuckled, "Lollygagging? Kun, you are showing your age man."
"Keep it up and I'll show you just how much age I have on you boy!"
He could actually hear Zoi swallow at the threat. "Hey don't blame me, he's the one who is distracted!"
Zoi shot a thumb over at him, ratting him out. Kun glanced over at him, up at Usagi, and back to him with a smirk. "When is he not distracted by her?"
"Maybe if you partnered us in a spar, I would be able to give you my full attention."
Kun made his way over to them, Minako going to sulk somewhere having lost her partner. "You and I both know that I would still not have it. In fact, I would have less of your attention than I do now."
He huffed, "Like you have any room to talk. I do pay attention sometimes and I keep managing to do so when either you or Minako is on top…."
"Enough." Kun's grimace quickly turned into a sneer and worry invaded his belly. "Tell you what, I'll make you a deal. You beat me in a duel and I will partner you with Usagi."
"What? That's insane."
"Oh, I am serious though. As it stands now, you are not ready to go against her. But if you were to beat me, then you would be able to handle it, I think."
At some point, Makoto and Neph had also stopped, coming over to join in the 'fun'. "You think?"
"What's going on down there?"
He looked back up, Jad and Usagi bringing themselves to a halt with all the excitement. Usagi leaned her over the rail, her head in her hand, tilted slightly to the side as she looked down at him.
"It's a deal."
They moved over to a large opening, Jad and Usagi coming down to join the circle that the rest were forming around them. Zoi grabbed up the swords, picking up the one Kun had insisted he use.
"Jesus Kun, you've been making him use a weighted sword?!"
Kun smirked while Zoi tossed the heavy sword back onto the pile, grabbing him a brand new sword. "How else was he ever to get any better than me if I didn't push him."
Sword in hand, he pointed it at him. "You are going to pay for that, my back has been aching for weeks!"
"Oh? Then tell me, how does that sword feel in your hands?"
He tossed it back and forth, it felt as if it weighed nothing. "Feels like victory."
"So, what exactly is going on here? Is Mamoru finally going to beat the shit out of Kunzite?"
He shot Jad a grin, "Hell yes."
"Oh good! Took you long enough!"
Neph glared over, "Chill Zoi, it's been a month."
"I don't just mean in this life idiot."
"Enough! The rules, no magic! That's it. Are you ready?"
"I'm re…"
Kun charged him, catching him off guard. He barely got his sword up in time to keep Kun's from going straight through his chest. Thrust and parry, thrust and parry. The two of them made their way around the warehouse, jumping on and off of anything in their way. Kun swiped at his legs and he jumped over his sword, managing to land his feet on his chest, sending Kun backward. Landing flat on his back from the move, Mamoru did a press up, getting back to his feet in one swift move. Kun walked slowly towards him, applauding.
"Very nice your highness."
"Excuse me?"
Kun just grinned, "But we are not even close to done."
~*O*~
Both men were dripping with sweat, the fight had lasted well past 30 minutes now. She just stood and watched, the two of them moving like a choreographed dance and not an unplanned sword fight.
Minako stood next to her, her eyes glued on Kun. "Kami, this is hot."
She glanced at Minako, but her eyes remained on her man, so she looked back at the two, focusing on Mamoru. Sweat had his shirt sticking to him and darkening the material. Deep down inside, she knew that if it were anyone else, she would find it disgusting. But with Mamoru….she found herself wanting to press up against him, sweat and all.
It probably had something to do with that image Mamoru shared with her, even though it was an accident. Every time she dropped her guard, the image popped back up along with all the feelings it evoked in her. She would feel flushed all over and her heart would race all while a chill ran up her spine.
She was getting the same feeling watching him now, heating up all over. She was pretty close to sweating herself, even in the chill of the warehouse.
Makoto moved from her spot to stand behind them, leaning into both their ears simultaneously. "You guys know what they are fighting for right?"
"Um...to win?"
Makoto giggled at her, "No, not just that. Mamoru is fighting for you."
"ME?!"
Minako gave her a look and she wasn't sure if it was out of worry or jealousy. "Yeah if he beats Kun then he gets you as his sparring partner."
Worry. It was definitely a look of worry. "Usa, be careful."
"I know, I know. But...he just won't listen to me."
"Did you tell him? Upfront?!"
"No, but...I don't even understand it myself, how am I supposed to explain it?"
"What are you two talking about?"
They broke away from the staring contest they were having, looking back at Makoto. "Usagi hasn't told Mamoru about Endymion yet."
"Who's Endymion?"
"According to Minako, he is my husband…"
"HUSBAND?!"
They both hushed her, placing their hands over her mouth in hopes of keeping her from gaining too much attention. Everyone was so focused on the fight, they didn't even stir at Makoto's outburst.
"Since when are you married Usagi?!"
"Since the Silver Millennium."
Makoto visibly relaxed. "Oh, well that doesn't count."
"Exactly!"
Minako shook her head at both of them. "The fact that she is married doesn't matter obviously. It's who she is married to! Endymion is not someone to mess with!"
"If he is so fierce, then where is he? Why hasn't he shown up and swept me away or whatever?"
"Because he hasn't awakened yet. He doesn't even know who he is yet!" Minako whispered, frustrated.
She turned back to the fight, letting Mamoru's muscles distract her from things she didn't understand. "I don't even know who he is and yet, I am expecting to fall at his feet whenever it is that he arrives. Well, he's got another thing coming if he thinks I'm going to just go willing with him wherever he pleases."
Kun and Mamoru got in close to one another, holding each other off with very little wiggle room between them. Their blades were at opposite angles, the only thing keeping them from slashing each other's faces was the blade in their own hands.
They stayed like that for a moment, pushing back and forth slightly, but no one overpowering the other. Then Kun glanced her way for second and grinned.
"If you fail Mamoru, I'm going to partner Usagi with Zoicite. And he is very handsy. Especially when he fights with one of the girls. But, I'm sure you remember that don't you?"
A roar came from Mamoru and Kun was thrown back. The next several blows came from Mamoru, his sword hitting Kun's over and over again, hard. It was as if the last 45 minutes had never occurred, Mamoru's energy back at the top. While Kun's was waning.
Mamoru took another powerful swing, barely missing Kun's hand and Kun lost his blade in the process. The metal flew far across the warehouse, clattering loudly in the distance while Mamoru pressed his blade to Kun's throat. They both panted but neither moved, glaring at one another. Until Kun burst into laughter that is.
Everyone was deathly still and silent. "Well done, Prince."
Mamoru stepped back, giving Kun room to breathe and lowering his sword. "You're dehydrated and delirious."
"Well then, go calm your prize."
Mamoru looked back at her, only to turn back to Kun in a second. "What..now?!"
Kun clapped a hand over Mamoru's shoulder, still out of breath. "The enemy won't wait, so neither should you."
"He means to bring about an awakening."
Jad, who had been silent the whole fight, was watching Mamoru and Kun intently. "Awakening?"
He didn't say anymore, just pushed her towards Mamoru with a hard shove. She glanced back at Minako, who gave her a warning look, but also said nothing. Makoto looked like a giddy schoolgirl. And Neph looked like he was waiting for something, just like Jad. Zoi settled in, all that was missing with him was some popcorn.
Slowly she stepped up to Mamoru and Kun just waved her over like she was some kind of present. In defiance and self-preservation, she crossed her arms over her chest. "And just why should I go along with this? No one asked me what I wanted."
"Do you want to spar with Mamoru?"
Her eyes involuntarily danced from Kun to Mamoru, both of them watching and waiting. Of course, she wanted to spar with him, having him touch her and her him, both of them all sweaty...what was wrong with her! She couldn't be having these thoughts, not now, not when Mamoru was about to touch her. He would see, hear, and feel all of it!
She needed to get her mind off of it, give herself something else to focus on besides Mamoru's large, warm hands...on her…..
"Alright, but if I win, I get taught swords!"
Kun chuckled but Mamoru smirked. "And if I win...you can no longer call me Chiba-san."
The room got silent again, everyone waiting to hear what she would say to such a challenge.
"Fine!"
"A gentleman's agreement!"
One of the boys shouted it out and everyone laughed. Except for her and Mamoru. They continued to stare one another down. Their contest had already begun.
~*O*~
He was already tired, the fight with Kun wearing him out. What was the point of all this? No way Kun wanted Usagi to win, he didn't want to teach her sword fighting. Hell, he wasn't sure why he taught him! Before it was a means of protection when he was on the moon. Now, what need did he have for it? He should be working on his magic, getting it stronger.
So why did he want to spar with Usagi again? She had a lot more practice in hand to hand and magic and his energy was low. He was struggling to remember why this was a good idea to begin with.
Oh yeah, other guys, touching her.
One thing was for sure, he was going to touch her, a lot, in this fight. Most guys, hell any guy, would find that a huge bonus. But most guys didn't share their deepest darkest secrets with one touch. He still couldn't believe he had shown her that the other day. It was completely involuntary. If he hadn't opened his fat mouth, talking about his dirty thoughts, it never would have happened. The bright side, Usagi shared as much with a touch as he did. The mind-reading thing was new and neither of them knew how to control it. Usagi was the only one to come close, cutting off what used to be an endless flow to a dripping tap.
It did give him an excuse to touch her, although not a very good one.
From the looks Usagi was currently giving him, he wasn't sure he wanted to know the inner workings of her mind at the moment. It was awkward, how do you even start a fight with Usagi? If he went by his memories, he just had to insult her hair. He was pretty sure she didn't need any encouragement at the moment, looking as if she was more than ready to tear him apart.
Someone turned the stereo on, the music helping some to break the tension in the room. But then he listened to the lyrics.
"Who put this on!"
Zoi gave him a small wave, grinning from ear to ear while everyone but Minako and Kun laughed it up. He didn't follow all of the song, he just caught stuff like, "Going to bend you over", and it was enough to give him the gist.
"FOCUS!"
Kun barked at them, even though he was pretty sure that was all about him as Usagi looked well into the 'zone'. She flexed, rolling her shoulders back and pushing her chest out. Was she doing that on purpose?
He didn't want to make the first move, of that much he was sure of. And he knew just how to get her to. "Ladies first, Odango."
She glared at him and he did his best to smirk in response. Then she took off, running straight for him and he readied himself. When she stood right before him, she jumped up, flipping over his head. Before his tired brain could catch up, she elbowed him hard in his ribs from behind.
He bent over and then down, sweeping for her legs and hitting nothing but air. When she touched back down, she kicked him in his shoulder, sending him backward and sliding across the floor. Doing a press up, he popped himself back onto his feet just as she tried to roundhouse kick him. He caught her foot and threw it up, forcing her other foot to leave the ground and flip her over completely. She landed hard on the ground and didn't move. He could hear her soft sobs and in an instant, he was by her side.
"Usagi?! Are you okay?"
Her fist connected with his face, sending him across the room. "You are too easy Chiba-san." Standing, he wiped away the blood at the corner of his mouth. She frowned, "And you are pulling your punches. Don't you want to win? I thought you wanted this?"
"Don't worry, I won't fall for your fake tears again!"
"You know, Zoi says the same thing every time and yet…"
He ran to her. She was distracted, too busy trying to rattle him and he had the advantage. Taking a stance, she anticipated his move, but she expected the wrong one.
He dropped his whole body, sliding into her like a base on a baseball field, and she fell on him hard. Her feet knocked out from under her completely, she was lucky he had been kind enough to break her fall. And as much as he was enjoying her on top of him, that was not the point. That was not the point!
Throwing her off, he forced himself to be rough and she rolled away. He popped up to his feet again and she did the same, running at him and jumping. She intended to knock him down with her weight. Too bad she weighed a bit less than that sword Kun had him swinging.
He caught her, holding her again. This time her knees were bent and one on either side of his ribs with his arms under her butt. He kept his fist clenched tight, keeping his forearms on her cheeks and nothing else.
She quickly recovered, punching him in the face a few times while he was defenseless. He probably should have just dropped her, but the last time he held her was the day Tokyo U was attacked. Even with her assault on his face, he struggled to let go. He had a better idea.
It didn't take much to pull the memory up, letting it flash in his mind, knowing it would mirror in hers. Her whole body tensed and a gasp escaped her lips. Then another image flashed in his in response. This one came from her and from the look on her face and how she scrambled out of his arms, she didn't mean for him to see or feel it.
He showed her how close he came to kissing her after she turned off their connection, letting her feel just how much he wanted to press his lips to hers. While she showed him the fight he just had with Kun from her point of view. He felt the heat she felt and how hard her heart pounded in her chest. And how her eyes took him in.
Blood rushed to her face and down her lovely neck. Now he felt heat rushing through him.
"You two taking a break already?!"
He glanced over, everyone still watching them intently. The song changed and so did Usagi, running up to him and staying firmly on the ground. She punched and kicked and he blocked, over and over again, catching every hit they sent one another. With every touch, their minds connected, showing one another just what they planned to do next, making it far too easy for them to anticipate one another's moves.
She kicked high, aiming for his head, but he caught it again, this time holding onto it. It was an impressive move, having to stretch her foot high over her own head to reach his face. And it had her in a lovely position which he held her frozen in at the moment.
"Would you keep your dirty thoughts to yourself?!"
Just as she said it, she involuntarily sent him another thought, just as dirty as the one he had been having.
"You first!"
He released her foot, letting it return to her. Only to have her send it sailing back at him again. This time when he caught it, she sent him an image of sparring with one of the boys. Zoi it looked like, and him grabbing and touching her as they fought.
Anger boiled up, intense, from somewhere he didn't really know. Before he could think to stop it, sparks of electricity went through his hand and into her.
She squealed and he released her, remorse and guilt spreading across him in an instant.
He wasn't even really sure how he did it, but now Usagi was panting heavily across from him, her eyes to the floor. Then she started to laugh. "So, that's how you want to play it?" Her head popped up, a smirk on her face, "Okay then."
