i do wonder why fandom is so insistent on proving that "gale could eventually change his mind" when it comes to fatherhood.
if children are something you ideally want in your romance - that is completely valid and luckily for you, there are several romance options in the game that can provide just that. wyll, lae'zel, and halsin. even shadowheart briefly mentions that children might be a possibility for her in the future. 4 options total that either already have entire adoption subplots or are open to the idea.
meanwhile, fandom is bending over backwards, bringing up aspects of gale's arc that are completely irrelevant to the topic at hand and claiming that any statement coming from gale or any boundary he sets should forever be questioned because... "he has been known to have inferiority issues"?!
gale is a character who is very likely in his 40s. he isn't some 20-something college boy who is still trying to figure everything out. i personally never felt like there was any point in the context of gale's relationship with tav where he was unsure about his desires. quite the contrary.
gale is also very vocal about what he wants. not wasting any time in proposing to tav after the big bad had been defeated. i am pretty sure there would have been instances where gale expressed his desire to have children (whether that may mean immediate or somewhere down the line) if larian had intended to include this aspect in his romance as well.
...but instead all we have to go on when it comes to the subject of children in general are lines like these:
Tumblr media
player: gale... how would you feel about having another person in our relationship?
gale: what, like a child? i'm not quite sure i'd consider myself father material, plus our current lifestyle isn't exactly what i'd call settled...
Tumblr media
tara: this is why mrs. dekarios and i will be waiting an eternity more for grandchildren.
gale: psst! shoo, tara.
nodecontext: shooing away tara like one would a naughty cat.
Tumblr media
gale, upon spotting oliver during their game of hide and seek: ah, i have you! just a shame i don't want you.
EDIT:
adding for clarification

Dumb BG3 thoughts based on a single pun for Korydass…
The Companions & Their Relationships to Makeup
Thoughts under the break…
Lae’zel: “Tchk! It is called battle paint, Istik!”
Shadowheart: Loves it, is clearly talented & practiced with it—also wildly jealous of Isobel’s eyeliner game. Has she worn poisoned lipstick? Probably at least once she can’t remember.
Astarion: Will deny that he uses anything. Actually uses everything he can get his hands on. Has gotten incredibly good at doing things by feel/memory. The only reason he isn’t more dramatic with it is that pesky lack of reflection.
Gale: Has a meticulous skincare routine and a manicure kit. Very particular about his hands AKA “The finally tuned instruments with which I compose the intricate melodies of my art!” Used to have a haircare routine, but it fell by the wayside when he wasn’t leaving his tower.
Wyll: Careful haircare routine. Enjoys eyeliner and eyeshadow. Was much more fussy about everything when every other day he had to attend a ball. Much more practical now that he’s been the Blade of the Frontiers.
Karlach: Is interested, but since there weren’t cosmetics that could stand up to the fiery hells of Avernus at her disposal she hasn’t had a chance to dabble. Unironically will ask Wyll (before anyone else) for ideas on what she could/should wear, because he’s her bestie and that’s who you ask!
Halsin: Works solely with what nature gave him, gods bless the man.
Minthara: Has a makeup/skincare/haircare routine that is precisely timed down to the minute. Has absolutely worn poisoned lipstick on multiple occasions. Also has painted her nails with poison. Not for a specific reason, just to test out the practicality of it. Didn’t use it again because it chipped too easily.
Jaheira: Used makeup more often when she was younger. After her kids and “bonus kids with weapons” (The Harpers) she didn’t bother as much with it. She still does her hair exactly the way Khalid loved it, though.
Alfira: Adores makeup! Stage makeup, everyday makeup, you name it! Can be overly ambitious with it.
Lakrissa: Never was interested when she was younger, in fact, was pretty anti-makeup… then Alfira begged her to try an eyeshadow. Alfira fawned so much over Lakrissa afterwards that Lakrissa has been wearing it ever since.
Isobel: Effortlessly an expert in makeup. Obviously adores a dramatic eyeliner and eyeshadow. Occasionally gets the whim to practice on Aylin. Takes up a more vigorous skincare regimen after resurrection because she’s quietly alarmed by the “clamminess” of her skin. (Nobody else thinks she feels clammy).
Aylin: Fully believes she is perfect without makeup. Fully believes she is also perfect with it. Does not own any of her own cosmetics. Really only wears makeup when Isobel puts it on her. Makes a lot of loud excuses about not understanding mortal hair-care because it prompts Isobel to wash and brush her hair.
Korydass: “Make up? Make up with whom? Have I offended someone?!”

I wanted to make another set of childfree headcanons like I did for ikevamp but for ikeprince this time. For the record, when I do it like this where I’m going through all the characters in this way, I’m doing that for all the cf folks out there who maybe want to be able to think of their fave as being compatible with them or whatever else. This isn’t me being like ‘I believe every character in this story would genuinely be cf,’ this is me coming up with ways to justifying whoever out there might want to believe that any of these characters could be cf, potentially. I’m not doing all the characters, though, since Silvio, Keith, and Gilbert haven’t been released yet and I have all my knowledge of them from Tumblr translations that not everyone has seen.
Also, this is going to be more dark and serious than the last one, so TW for talking about ptsd and also a mention of suicide.
Jin — He has a very complicated relationship with his parents and with his childhood that I think would get in the way of him consciously deciding that he wishes to have kids. I also could see him doubting himself and his ability to protect any potential kids after that one time he couldn’t protect some children 🙃 Regardless, I see him readily agreeing to a cf lifestyle if prompted by a cf partner.
Chev — I get the vibe from him that he has no real, genuine desire to have children and also that his own complicated relationship with his mother might further dissuade any such desires, but I do also think that he sees procreation as part of his duties as a prince or as king. I believe that having his partner come disclose to him that they do not desire children would in a way be liberating for him because then he could let go of feeling the need to force himself to do so anyway and come up with a different solution if he’d need an heir as king.
Clavis — He’s said it himself that what he wants more than anything is for someone to love him above all else and, as both my parents have explained to me, once children come into the picture you do love them even more than your partner, and I think he’d struggle with that. Also, he’s so much better suited to be a fun uncle than to actually be a father and I genuinely think that’s also what he’d want for himself more than actual fatherhood.
Leon — The strongest impression he gave me in his route is that, once he’s interested, he is 100% dedicated to making his partner happy, so that’s where he strikes me as one of those guys who would go with whatever his sweet baboo desires.
Yves — I mean, I don’t see him doing well with the mess and the noise, not to mention that he has his infamously bad luck that actually could prove harmful to a baby. More than that, though, he already has tremendous amounts of stress from all the added pressure he puts on himself with his work for perfectionism as well as all the criticism he constantly receives from everyone else around him who isn’t Sariel or the other princes, so I just don’t think he has the capacity for the additional stress that would come with a child. Also, beyond the normal stress of having kids, he would then also suffer additional stress from the constant criticism he would receive from people around him every day about how he is as a parent or even about his kids and I genuinely don’t think he could handle all of that, all stacked up.
Licht — This man is so traumatized from his childhood that there’s no way he’d let himself even consider it. If he ever had a partner end up pregnant, it would massively trigger his PTSD and might push him to leave or even die by suicide, given his mental health history. I think he’d be positively delighted to skip that part of marriage and just enjoy his relationship with his partner, without any stowaways.
Nokto — Also heavily traumatized, also not getting over that trauma any time soon, would likely do horribly with having children. The other thing you need to remember about the twins when it comes to kids is that it isn’t just how much they’d panic about the idea of having children, it’s also that massive, unprocessed trauma like they both have can get triggered by said children and come out in some pretty awful ways. I was lucky enough that, in my personal experience with such things, all I got from my dad being blindsided by suddenly having all this trauma he didn’t know he had being triggered by me was yelling and, when I was younger, some spanking. With the twins, yes, we can all agree that they’re good people, but if they were genuinely triggered by a child in a way they never would have expected to experience, they could do something worse than yelling or it could even send them back, mentally, to their childhood so now the baby’s crying because it’s hungry but Nokto’s now in the middle of a PTSD episode and is also crying and yelling about how his mom needs to leave Licht alone. Like I cannot express how bad it could be for these two to have kids without YEARS of therapy at least.
Luke — He has that really interesting attachment style where he gets so singularly attached to one person, so with as much as he talks a lot, even at the very end, about how he doesn’t give two shits about anyone except his sister and his partner and maybe also Jin, he could very well see a potential baby as just a stranger that he doesn’t really give a shit about. Now, obviously, one could point out that once a baby has actually been produced he could come to love it like he loves his sister, but that would require the production of a baby in the first place, which wouldn’t happen if he had a childfree partner.
Sariel — First off, he lives and breathes for his work, so I really don’t see him having the time to really focus on a child the way that they need. Secondly, it’s clear that he doesn’t like or do well with chaos of any kind, as proven by Clavis, so it seems unlikely to me that he would desire to produce something that is inherently going to be the living embodiment of chaos for some time.
Rio — This man would be thrilled to do literally anything at all to make one woman happy, including having or not having kids. He’s a delightfully submissive simp who will do anything his mistress asks, no matter what, so it’s only natural he’d accommodate any preference, including this one.

good morning! finnick is quite blunt during the quarter quell— yes, he makes jokes and he laughs, but he also says things like “those canons? music to my ears. i don’t care about any of them” and “if i wanted to kill either of you i would’ve done it by now.” he doesn’t hold back for a second about any of it and he can’t. it’s how he survives, and more importantly it’s how he makes sure that katniss and peeta survive. the quell is a complicated multilayered event for finnick— he’s going back into the games which have haunted him for a decade. to win would be to seal his fate as the golden boy for the rest of his life. he will never know peace. he’s doing it alongside the closest person he has to a mother, mags, and for him to win would be mean for her to die in the games. he’s fighting against people he’s known for ten years, and quite well given that he’s the one who does all the we remember memorial videos. despite his attitude and words, there is care and there is still this attachment. he has to play ruthlessly, because even a moment of hesitance could end badly for him. he can’t afford to get caught up in the relationships and common hatred for the games that he has with the other victors. he won his first games by being quick and calculated, and he’ll only win his second by being the same. anything personal is a weakness and it makes him vulnerable, and finnick knows what happens when you’re vulnerable to the system.
bearing all that, he’s also part of the rebellion which should it end badly or if anything goes wrong will also be his unraveling. it’s a secret he’s hid from annie, the one person he is constantly trying to have some level of honesty with. it’s treason. then, he also has the ultimate task of getting into an alliance with katniss and make sure that she and peeta stay alive— arguably the most next to impossible task. to do so, he needs to convince katniss to not kill him in the middle of the night or leave the group— two things she is constantly thinking about. none of them have the time or luxury to think and unpack the circumstances, they’re in the games and they have to act like it and finnick has to steer every situation they get into— saving peeta’s life, yelling out to johanna when they’re all standing by ready to attack, calming johanna down, counting the bread rolls, holding onto peeta when the cornucopia spins, etc.

After your biggest self indulgent headcannon with the famed moon lesbians, I've wanted to ask you about your personal headcannons when it comes to the characterisation of both Aylin and Isobel.
In my experience in playthroughs, I feel like I got Aylin's character down pretty well. Bold to the point of recklessness, unyeildingly loyal to the ones she loves, loud and unapologetic but deeply rage full and stubborn.
But I'm pretty stumped on Isobel. I've tried getting extra dialogue from her before she's reunited with Aylin but I just feel like the one scene isn't enough.
What do you think about her character?
Oh, wow, my first ask! And about Aylin & Isobel, of all things. Genuinely delighted by this development.
(DISCLAIMER: I’ll never declare myself an expert on these characters. My reads on them are based on a healthy knowledge of writing, tropes, and speculations spinning off of personal experiences. Unless Larian has put it in the game or game related materials, it’s all headcanons. Cheers!)
I'll put a TL;DR up front (or my "thesis statement" if you want to get academic with it). Isobel and Aylin make each other "more human" primarily by being opposites in the way they express themselves. Aylin is bold, fearsome, and brash. Isobel is composed, sensible, and calculating (while “calculating,” tends to have negative connotations, I'm more leaning into it in a "she's a planner where Aylin is a do-er" way.)
I do hope you’re ready for a ramble, because I have been working on this on-and-off all day.
One of the most important things to keep in mind is Isobel was raised in a house in mourning.
The kind of epic grief Kethric would have gone through upon the loss of his wife would have forever altered the way he acted towards Isobel, beyond making sure she was raised as a Selûnite per Melodia’s wishes. The Kethric we’re presented in game is a fairly controlled man. He's unlikely to be the kind of person who would show his young daughter how deeply his sorrow wounded him; he'd keep his weeping behind closed doors. What distraught adults forget is that children understand and see way more than they're given credit for. Young Isobel would be acutely aware of her father’s pain, and the fact that he hid it. She was a child coping with her own sorrow, and would have looked to her father's example of how to deal with it: she'd learn she was allowed to care deeply, but she could not present that to others. Melodia's death also likely motivated Isobel to become a powerful cleric relatively quickly—a powerful enough cleric might have been able to heal her mother, might have spared her and her father this agony.
The Thorms, being a family of power and privilege in Reithwin, would have been treated by most of the people around them with formal manners, which would be isolating for a child. Everyone in Reithwin would frame Isobel as Kethric Thorm’s beloved daughter, a child without a mother, the devotee of Selûne. They would treat her with respect tinged with pity, never really knowing her... which would be even more isolating.
That's why Isobel is struck by Aylin so immediately (you know, aside from Aylin being a tall blonde sculpture of a woman). Every one of Aylin’s emotions are BIG and outward-facing. Most people approaching “The General” or “The General’s Daughter” would default to near ceremonial conduct. Dame Aylin wouldn’t see the need! Aylin cares strongly about justice, and defending the weak against the wicked, and everyone knows that about her in ten minutes of meeting her, tops. Aylin is passionate and sincere in that passion. Isobel would have been drawn to that, despite the fact that her upbringing still dictates composure.
You can also witness the emotion/composure contrast in the way Isobel reunites with Aylin after Kethric is finally dead. Aylin falls to her knees, picks Isobel up, spins her around. Isobel is overjoyed, but also more reserved. Her emotions are not in grand gestures but in the trembling of her voice—she’s trying to hold herself together.
(If you haven't seen it, there's a Devnote that specifically states that Isobel's delighted by Aylin's demanding people shove off and let her do unspeakable things to Isobel in private. Isobel scolds her angel for acting that way in public, but once those two are alone...)
This is where I circle back on “calculating.” Because it's not just in reuniting with Aylin that Isobel has had to hold herself together. She's been doing that for months....
Imagine yourself in Isobel's position before the start of the game. One moment you’re in your comfortable, warm home, trying to work out how to reconcile your devoted father and your angel, the two people dearest to your heart. Then you blink… and open your eyes in a cold, dusty tomb. It reeks of death. So does your father, who is telling you your beloved is no more. His lips are curling up in an ever-so-slight smile as he delivers the news. The sheer confusion and panic most people would feel in that moment would be overwhelming.
Isobel could have panicked and fled, but that tomb is filled with bones and Kethric is now the Chosen of Myrkul. Where Aylin would charge in and through, inherently trusting her own strength, Isobel would need to craft a plan. Maybe she would play on her father’s emotions until she found herself in a position to run. Maybe she prepares haste or hold person under her breath, or unleashed a well-timed "turn undead." In any case, Isobel is able to pull herself together and escape in such a way that her father cannot follow. She finds a familiar place and sets up a bastion of protection there. Rather than fleeing the Shadowlands altogether, which is what most people would have done, Isobel starts gathering information. She needs to know what happened to her, her family, and her lover. She needs to know why there’s Sharran magic literally everywhere. She is alone, trying to piece together a confusing story she was part of, and somehow the driving force of after she was killed.
Harpers arrive to deal with the threat of Kethric Thorm like they did a century before. Jaheira would have been a legend even when Isobel was a child, but Isobel makes the very conscious choice not to tell Jaheira her true identity. She doubles down on that when Tav and their companions come through... unless they have proof of who she is beforehand. (In this way Shadowheart and Isobel are hilariously in contrast: the Selûnite is a much better secret-keeper than the Sharran.) So I think that all covers "composed, sensible, and calculating" with regards to Isobel, but when writing from her PoV I think you would have a very rich inner dialogue in line with the ideals Aylin outwardly expresses: Isobel wants to comfort and protect the weak, she's loyal to the ones she loves, and feels strongly and deeply. Once she and Aylin are together again, Isobel's presentation shifts. Where Isobel is a grounding force for Aylin (thinking about how Isobel would have had to explain to Aylin why she was upset Aylin went on a month long walk without warning), Aylin pulls Isobel out of that carefully crafted shell of hers (thus my statement re: making each other "more human.") I haven't yet written any (complete) fan fiction for these two but this fic on A03 (fair waring: it's smutty!) really altered my thoughts as to what Aylin and Isobel could have been like prior to Isobel's untimely death. While I love to joke about Aylin ALWAYS TALKING IN ALL CAPS, there's something to be said for writing her along the lines of a courtly knight-errant. Aylin worships Isobel in a way people worship Selune; she's Isobel's most fervent devotee. Isobel is swept away by love at first sight, but still needs to navigate her father's delicate emotions and her own responsibilities. I firmly believe anyone writing anything in the timeframe of the game or beyond it needs to consider their past, even if they have no plans of writing anything of the sort.
I could probably go on for another um... 13 or so paragraphs (😅) but it's proooobably better if I wrap this up. I hope this gives you some things to think about, and helps a bit with whatever you're working on!
