Something new is in this takeaway pack of Vegetarian Rice for dinner. Yeah, it is the fried cereal prawn fritters or maybe is fish. :D The usual curry mock mutton & potato and imitation pig’s intestine & kidney.

My problematic bourgeois red flag is that I unfortunately enjoy the meal format that is afternoon tea. I'm really sorry but it's a terminal disease of mine that I would like all my meals to come in a mosaic of small bits arranged into a neat tower of plates. I will take the guillotine yes.
#ALTHOUGH#i think it's mostly overpriced massively and that's why associated with the rich#like prawns or lobster or cereal that used to be poor people food until the rich got wind of that#essentially you're having a couple of sandwiches#a scone and bits of cake or something#and sipping tea over a few hours#and the tiered plates don't cost that much#so afternoon tea can be very working class#communist even

What in Christ am I even going to wear to work. Like.
#my manager said ‘wear a coat and big boots because we’re going to be roaming the reserve’ and i was like ‘yep way ahead of you chief’#i was still wearing my big coat and hiking boots when i called her because i’d just walked mabel (who was looking at me strangely)#but beyond that i just.. don’t know. i’m going to go with bland trousers and black long sleeved t-shirt i think#BUT i need to bring my backpack because i’m bringing lunch and a water bottle and probably my filofax so i can organise my timetable#and pens obviously and my wallet#but if i am wearing my backpack i can’t also wear my big coat because the feeling of fabric bunched up under my arms makes me want to scream#and tear my skin off. so what do i do? layers?? fleece + waterproof coat and pray to god it’s not too cold?????#i’d do a trial run but if i put my coat on in front of mabel at this hour she’ll think i’ve finally lost it. she might do a stress pee#i’m already so tired and i haven’t even worked a full shift there yet. i have no idea what to bring for lunch either#i’m just going to buy a shitload of fruit and random snacks and sandwich fillings tomorrow and try to assemble something that seems right#or maybe i’ll just cheat; buy a premade salad and keep it cold with a frozen capri sun. 🧐🧐🧐#god i’d Love to bring a prawn cocktail but having prawns at room temperature is so bad and i don’t even really trust the ice pack#i was thinking about making fried rice but i hear conflicting reports about how long it’ll keep for and how to store it and if you can even#reheat it#i don’t know why i’m trying to be interesting. i am 100% going to end up bringing a sad cheese sandwich; a bunch of grapes; mini cheddars#and a cereal bar & spend my whole lunch break gazing sadly at the people who were coordinated enough to bring pasta or salad#or any sort of prepped meal that could be reheated#i just want to TRY#personal

Tea for (more than) Two
So, in a delightful turn of events, I recently got together with some pals who are also TOTALLY NORMAL about Carry On. And we did our best to replicate afternoon tea at Lady Ruth’s house. And I thought it would be kinda fun to share the results (and some recipes, which are at the end under the cut). So, here they are, featuring:
Scones! (Sour cherry, ofc.)
Cake! (Chocolate with Chocolate-Orange Buttercream featuring a super respectful remembrance, Lemon Drizzle, and Classic Victoria Sandwich.)
Lavender Earl Grey shortbread cookies!
Finger sandwiches! (Egg & cress, Lemon and prawn, Caprese on focaccia, and Coronation chicken - all on freshly baked bread.)
A selection of teas! (Including Simon's Sour Cherry looseleaf blend, Simon Snow Tea, some proper English Breakfast, and of course Earl Grey.)
A giant slab of butter! (Fancy butter.)
A basil plant!
A crucible!
A sword through the table!
Special cameos by a Watford goat (wings hidden) and Prof. Minos (tiny fluffy edition)!
Sadly, no tea trolley, but we did our best to provide glamorous staging anyway.
It was pretty much the best, guys! Highly recommend. Recipes (including dairy-free versions for many treats) below the cut.
Chocolate cake with chocolate-orange buttercream (dairy-free)
Using this recipe for the cake, and this one for the frosting (instructions at the end for a chocolate variant). A hot tip is to use egg whites instead of aquafaba (they whip up much faster) and of course to add orange zest, per AWTWB ch 89.
Lemon Drizzle Cake (dairy-free)
Using this recipe, using vegan butter and replacing the self-raising flour with some flour/baking powder/salt ratio from the internet. Garnish with Kellogg's ICEE Cereal or any other weird cereal you saw at the store and couldn't resist trying, for a little visual flair.
Classic Victoria Sandwich (dairy-free)
Using this recipe, substituting butter with vegan butter, milk with a non-dairy milk alternative (ideally soy but in this case oat milk was used), and replacing the self-raising flour with the same flour/baking powder/salt ratio from the internet as above. Regular old granulated sugar can be used in place of caster sugar. Garnished this with some black raspberries, but any attractive fruit (or weird cereal) could be used.
Sour Cherry Scones
This recipe from the Joy of Cooking does the trick! Use the GOOD butter.
Lavender Earl Grey Shortbread Cookies
You can find the recipe here
Overnight Focaccia Bread
Lemon and Prawn Sandwiches
This recipe came from @cookingmywaythroughcarryon and there are tons more there for tea party inspiration, including alternate versions of some of the above, so definitely check it out!
#carry on#the simon snow series#dairy-free baking#the simon snow trilogy#simon snow#rainbow rowell#tea for more than two#except at lady ruth's this is probably the spread she would put out for only two people#rainbow if you see this i hope the oxford commas aren't too offensive 😂

JJK - Grocery Shopping With Them Pt. I
Yuji Itadori - He’s got a hard time staying next to the cart especially once he sees something cool or funny or weird. Like, he doesn’t like wander half way across the store or anything like that, but he’s skipping his way up to the weird off brand cereal just as soon as you make it to the aisle, grinning back at you with that dorky smile as he does.
“Babe look, they’re called Nut O’s!” He’s snickering way too hard and loud and it’s just a liiitle embarrassing, but endearing. You chuckle as he shuffles back over, box in hand. “Can we get em?”
You snort and sigh halfheartedly, not really accustomed to denying the sweetheart.
“Throw it in, Yu.”
It was seriously hard not to spoil him sometimes.
Megumi Fushiguro - When I say he has a mental and physical checklist of everything you guys have vs everything you guys need to stock up on- it’s that serious for him. No like shopping is actually no joke. Any sort of suggestions made that aren’t on the list? He’s scowling a little harder than normal, eyeballing you and the food item you two definitely don’t need-
“But Megumiii, they look so good - please babe we have to try them!” He crosses his arms in scrutiny.
“That’s an unnecessary expense. Don’t even get me started on the sugar content-,”
“Oh my fucking- PLEASE.” There’s a long sigh and he finally relents.
But make no mistake he’s taking satisfaction in the fact that you inevitably hate the taste. Megumi 17, (Name) 0.
Nobara Kugisaki - Honestly? Y’all get the same level of giddy to see weird foods and utensils in the store, so much so you’ve got an entire collection of things like …sriracha pocky and those boxes of foreign snacks, all of which you end up recording yourselves try for the masses.
“Dude, no this is actually fucking gross I’m gonna-,” You’re laughing hysterically as she gags beside you, snorting a bit as she downs her entire bottle of water.
“It actually wasn’t that bad for me.” The look she gives you in response is priceless.
Maki Zenin - She’s the type to carry a book around in the store and let you take as much time as you need deliberating over spinach vs lettuce because she’s got her entertainment. She’s got very specific tastes too so it makes it really easy to shop for her when she’s not around, you on the other hand are so very indecisive- but she’s learned to live with that.
“Maki…should I get spicy or regular?”
“Hmm,” she doesn’t even glance up, “Flip a coin?”
“But what if I get home and decide I want the other one? Uggghhh-,” She finally peers over the pages.
“Just get both.” You’re looking at her in teary-eyed awe.
“You’re the smartest person I know Maki!”
“I know.”
Toge Inumaki - Loves going grocery shopping with you. I mean, loves spending all his free time with you, but there’s something about grocery shopping that just makes his day. He adores the domesticated feel of it all, he surmises.
“Salmon.” He gives a thumbs up at the wasabi flavored prawn chips in your hands and you cheer a little, placing them in the cart.
“Sure they won’t be too spicy for you?” He thinks for a moment.
“Mustard Leaf.” He gives a shrug and you chuckle.
“What do you mean you’re not sure? Weren’t these your suggestion?”
“Salmon Roe.” He gives a nod and you can tell by the way his eyes sparkle he’s smiling under his scarf.
“Well alright, don’t say I didn’t warn you…”
Always a pleasant experience to be around this cutie.

It’s a Vegetarian Rice (斋饭) lunch box from the coffee shop a couple of blocks down the road. Let’s start with my favourite curry mock mutton & potato with stir-fried long beans (or asparagus beans) and a new dish mum gotten for me. Deep-fried cereal prawn fritters (麦片虾) with flour-based “prawn” in place for the actual shellfish.

GIMME THE WORKS! (or just as much as you want to lol)
Ooh I'm gonna do a lightning round of hcs!
lgbt: Before Pepe realized he was genderfluid, he used performances as a way to experiment with his gender presentation (doing ballet in a tutu, wearing a sparkly dress or playing Isolde in Muppets Tonight)
fluffy: After Pepe and Beaker become friends post-breakup, Pepe decides to give Star Trek a try with him (or as Pepe calls it, Space Trek). Except he keeps peppering Beaker with questions throughout the whole thing ("Why are they in space? Who's that guy in the red shirt? Why did he die?") Still, Beaker appreciates the gesture.
angst: The first time Pepe went grocery shopping after Seymour left him, he couldn't reach anything on the shelves. So he just sat on the floor of the cereal aisle and cried.
hurt/comfort: When Seymour and Pepe tell the elephino joke and are yanked offstage by a vaudeville hook, to Pepe, it looks like a giant fishhook, and he has flashbacks to being caught at sea. Seymour stayed at his place to make sure he was okay, made an offhand joke about how he practically lives there (they were already together at this point), and that's when they decided to move in together. (Which made sense for them anyway, since they both had no money, and they spent all their time together already.)
silly: While thinking about Seymour and Pepe living together, I thought about them celebrating Diwali, and then I thought of this post. Pepe would eat the sand. He would totally eat the sand. I can hear him saying "I'm going to eat the sand, Seymour" in the exact same way he says "I'm going to jump, Santa"
food: Pepe loves cinnamon. There's evidence in canon (he says he likes cinnamon Life cereal in Muppets Tonight, and the cinnamon candies in Muppets Wizard of Oz), plus there's an Andalusian expression for when something is perfect or a great idea, "canelita en rama," which translates to "cinnamon sticks."
family: Pepe's mama thinks that Scooter is kind of cute. Pepe is mortified by this.
random: Pepe's particular species of prawn is Casanovus lotharius.

ok so gonzo propaganda time
he was labeled as “thing” when they are sent in crates in an earlier movie to which his response is “I’m not a thing! I’m a gonzo!” In a later movie he starts seeing words in the stars and in his alphabet cereal and realizes he’s an alien. The aliens land and look just like him and he almost goes with them. But because he’s a massive hufflepuff he chooses to stay with his friends because they meet him. Then for a few movies he just vibes, shoots himself out of a cannon, and has a romance(?) with his chicken. Then in one of the newer movies, muppets haunted mansion, he goes to a fear challenge in the mansion of his favorite (dead) magician and tricks Pepe the king prawn to come with him. They have to face their fears and make it out alive by morning. But gonzo thinks he has no fears. Later, he enters room 666 where he is locked in and sees himself become old and never see his friends again. That’s his fear (he’s an enormous hufflepuff). Anyways he’s free to go cuz it’s nearly sunrise but Pepe is gonna get married to murder bride lady so he risks his life to save him. He falls down the stairs and gets “eaten” by a monster thingy but a floating candelabra helps him out and convinces Pepe not to marry her. Then they jump out the window and barely make it out in time. Then it turns out that their ghost host was the magician all along and gonzo gets a signed cool card. Then they leave and the hitchhiking ghosts are in their car. Then a cool song plays for the credits.
in conclusion I freaking love gonzo please vote him
gonzo

Journal, as always. TW for the usual ED related topics + calorie estimates used for evaluation and adjustments, and TW for discussion of menstrual nonsense.
Today was not a good day. I'd somehow not only managed to lose my house keys, but it seems I'll also need to work harder on my health. For breakfast I had some roti jari - basically breadstick biscuits, and some cereal with my protein milk. My aunt visited today, and had me help her with some documents.
She also cooked, but it... er. Slipped my mind that I hadn't had lunch when I was trying to rest off the odd fatigue. Being on birth control pills meant I wasn't supposed to be having periods, much less heavy enough bleeding to cause period fatigue, but here we are. This is the third pill that has done such things, and the gynae is getting concerned - three consecutive instances of breakthrough bleeds and two decidual casts has apparently escalated the case to one of the more senior doctors.
I did get hungry early, since I missed lunch, so I had dinner early to compensate - my aunt fried some prawns and an egg for me, and I cooked rice. It was paired with pork organ soup. Afterward, I had a mixed berry yoghurt before I found a spare key, and I headed out to have a walk. I walked to the mall the next town over, and stopped at the post office to buy some cartons and to ask about postage rates. My mental state was poor, and I was suffering transient psychotic symptoms again. It made me terribly jumpy and hypervigilant to the point I was becoming anxious. So I decided to go home to deposit my cartons, and retraced my route after, but only clocked 8,000 steps at that point.
I decided to go out again, this time by train to a different mall further out for a change of environment. I wandered around the different stores, and briefly considered picking up some budget store curtains to use as fabric for a sewing project, but didn't end up buying any. I kept wandering until stores started to close, before I returned home, with a little over 15,000 steps clocked for the day.
I took a shower, and had a few biscuits before I realized I was quite hungry. It had been nearly 5 hours since I ate dinner, so I fixed myself some cereal with low fat milk - it was all we had in the fridge at this point. I presently lie in bed.
It seems I've been underestimating my TDEE, and accidentally still putting myself in a bit of a deficit rather than a surplus. While I've improved a fair bit on consistency and a focus on healthy whole foods first, I still have to eat more, especially for protein and iron. I've found that my nails are extremely brittle with some having small dents or dips in them, and that it seems another two toenails are threatening to fall out entirely again. My hair is still getting finer and finer, and it's starting to become a little noticeable in plain sight, and its color is paler than before. Though thankfully, if I take photos in certain ways, and arrange my hair carefully, it can still hide it while I'm trying to pull up my nutrition.
I'll have to put in effort to eat even more - the math suggests that I need to be eating about 2,500 calories a day if I'm trying to pull my weight up since my average burned per day is just a hair over 2,000. And right now I'm only eating about 1,700 to 1,800 a day most days - I do tend to vaguely count in my head, but I do also have a bad habit of frequently overestimating by double or more for my portion sizes, so take these numbers with a grain of salt. My energy has taken a bad dip due to my period abnormalities, but I don't think my intake is quite helping my case, so I'll keep reporting on it in these journals in hopes of tracing a positive trend.
