To Be A Teyrn's Son - Chapter 1
(Ignore that the link says chapter 2, that's only cuz chapter 1 is the prologue.)
Behold! I still live, creatively, now moreso than while I was still working at my unpleasant previous job!
Here's hoping it won't take me quite so long to churn out the next chapter as it took me to write up this one.
The canon reality of King Maric Theirin *not* having his best friend - a man who would provably do just about anything for him - raise his son, and instead having the younger brother of his dead wife - who is not the mother of said son raise him - has always fascinated me with the 'what if' of what if Loghain had raised Alistair instead of Eamon? How might things be different? How might they be the same? This explores those pre-Dragon Age: Origins years and sets up the ripple effects that come after in future stories to come. Loghain Mac Tir is an honorable man, a loyal man, who loves his king as much as he's exasperated by the man. They took back their country from Orlesian invaders together, they had loved the same woman, but now the Teyrn of Gwaren faces perhaps the biggest challenge King Maric has ever laid at his feet: raising his bastard child. His half-Orlesian bastard child.

Hiiiii it's me the person who reblogged your post about the Cousland x Loghain marriage (this is my main blog but 99% of my tumblr activity is through my side blog queenmelisende sorry for the confusion lol). Lets talk about Ferelden nobility. Their marriage would be an insanely good political alliance -- the two teyrnirs of Ferelden uniting? Cailan should be quaking in his boots. You said she would eat him alive??? I am desperate for more elaboration.
hi!! this is a sideblog too so no worries! but yeah cailan absolutely should be worried but the best part is, at least in my little au, he’s like…. 12 when all this is happening so all he really knows is that uncle loghain is leaving him (and anora) and it’s gonna be a while before they can see each other again :( it’s really maric that should be worried (and is) because he had to make a lot of concessions to the couslands for bryce and eleanor to be okay letting their baby girl go clean up maric’s mess (even if she really wanted it for spite reasons).
Tl;dr siobhan cousland was planning a coup from jump because she was raised to be queen and got told no and then maric dropped the perfect opportunity in her lap with a bow and his blessing, loghain was both collateral and a prize
siobhan in this au was born before the occupation technically ended and so her parents, still in the rebellion mindset of “ferelden first” was sort of groomed to believe that she’d one day be queen of ferelden because she’s the only noble girl within marrying age of cailan right up until anora is born and maric and/or rowan lose their minds. the couslands are Important, second to only the royal family and that shows in siobhan’s upbringing- she’s very politically minded, everything is duty/responsibility/optics with her and that’s something that (imo) would and should drive loghain crazy.
Politically on paper, her and loghain are an amazing match after celia dies right up until we remember that a) the couslands have already married their son and heir to a well known/regarded antivan trading family creating ties to a foreign, unallied country without the crowns express permission right after a war and b) loghain for all his accomplishments is not a man made for politics in any capacity that man is a Follower, he’s the type of person that need to be wholly devoted to a person/cause and c) uniting the only two surviving teyrnir’s is actually a recipe for disaster because oh my god why would you even think that maric that’s giving your subjects too much power and influence even with ferelden’s weird political structure
and siobhan knows this!! she knows that the people of gwaren don’t feel safe or supported by their teyrn and abandoned by their king and she’s also been personally slighted by the crown twice now!! so she graciously concedes to step in and throw the weight of her name around to build gwaren back up to the prominence it once had before the occupation gutted the city all while subtly reminding people that it was the couslands that actually care about the people of ferelden, its cousland gold bolstering the economy, its cousland trading partners bringing ships back into port without even saying anything because she’s a mac tir now after all that would just be gauche to rely on her maiden family name. its siobhan that runs the show and every single person in gwaren knows it, loghain is just insurance in the beginning (before whoops theyre actually in love your honor)

But how could Loghain be Nathaniel’s father, you say?
Loghain was in love with both Maric & Rowan, but because those three were too dumb to figure out polyamory, Loghain had to give them up for Ferelden. Logically, on the night of the royal wedding, Loghain got wasted & slept with a beautiful young woman. That young woman was Eliane Bryland.
Fast forward several months later, Eliane is married to Rendon Howe, and Loghain is set to marry Celia. Eliane is expecting — a little too soon. Thus, Rendon is denied his firstborn son, because it’s Loghain’s child she’s expecting, from their one night stand all those months ago. To save face for both of them, Rendon agrees to raise the boy as his own. Like Loghain, Eliane has black hair and light eyes (as evidenced by her portrait in Awakening). Maybe the child will look enough like her that none of the nobility will be the wiser. And Rendon definitely won’t ever pull the You Owe Me guilt trip card on Loghain. (/s)
Now, do you remember Nathaniel talking about how his father hated his mother? Do you remember Nathaniel talking about how his grandmother would treat not just his father, but him as well, when she’d visit? Do you remember how it’s implied that Rendon preferred Thomas to Nathaniel?
And poor Nathaniel, who begged to stay with his father, was sent away instead to the Free Marches when he was old enough to look like the spitting image of Loghain Mac Tir in his Hero of River Dane days and cause all the nobles to whisper about it!
Just so Nathaniel could go to the Tourney and find out that he even inherited his daddy’s talent with a bow.

just a couple heraldries i whipped together on coat of arms maker,,,,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the noble family of Mac Tir, sigil only created after Celia insisted Loghain stop living in a tent and actually fix his keep. A red rose on a backing of green for the "land" of their name, and black for Gwaren.
Followed by the Royal Family of Mac Tir, the same rose and green backing combined with the yellow mabari of Ferelden.

wait if pweekes accidentally misnamed Rendorn Guerrin as Connor and decided to rectify the mistake by making it canon that Rowan, Eamon, and Teagan had two daddies, by that logic and following that precedent does that make it definitely officially canon that Anora had two mommies since Celia Mac Tir was once erroneously misnamed as Maeve? like I know some people have hc'd it but precedent says it's absolutely canon now no takebacksies right

Dragon Age OC!
Ok, ok… I seemed to get some interest last night when I asked if people wanted to meet my DA OC so here she is! (No art yet lol)
Rowan Leanna Mac-Tir, My Inquisitor
She has black hair and icy blue eyes, she is 6 foot tall and has the build of a warrior, she has an interest in history, languages, medicine and nature. She is an incredibly skilled fighter, archer and horse rider too
She is a twin, her twin brother is called Gareth and they have an older sister called Anora. Her parents are Celia and Loghain Mac-Tir and they lived in Gwaren until Celia’s death, then they lived in Denerim and remained there after that
Anora, Gareth and Rowan were betrothed in their teens; Anora to Prince Cailan, Gareth to Jennifer Mac-Eanraig of the Stormcoast and Rowan was betrothed to Thomas Howe, she would have been betrothed to Fergus Cousland but he had already begun courting Orianna of Antiva by then (the pair remain very good friends though)
Anora and Gareths betrothals appeared to be perfect, Rowan’s was not, Thomas is as controlling as his father, threatening Rowan with physical violence if she told anyone about it, she did her best to hide her discomfort from her family and the person to notice first was actually Cailan, the pair had grown close and they were as close as their fathers were before them. After something happened during a memorial party, Rowan’s betrothal was annulled and the Howe’s were banished from Denerim by order of King Cailan
During the Blight (I’m not going into too much detail about this, because of spoilers) she travels from Ostagar to Radcliffe to aid Teagan in dealing with the undead that rise from the lake, which is where she meets the Warden and his party, they see how talented she is and offer her a chance to travel with them to help stop the Blight, much to the annoyance of certain party members (cough cough, Wynne)
While she travels with the Warden she gets close to a few members, Alistair, Lelianna, Morrigan and Zevran but surprisingly she gets the closest to Sten, to the point where they are intimate with each other, making the most of their time together before Sten had to return to Par Vollen or Saheron
After the Blight, she and her family help rebuild Ferelden, Anora remarries, to a noble from the Free Marches, James Travelyan. And Rowan spends her time between Denerim, the Stormcoast, Gwaren, and Highever, until King Alistair summons her to be his eyes, ears and voice at the conclave meeting in the Temple of Sacred Ashes…
BANG!
Now she’s the Herald and the Inquisitor, Rowan is working hard to fix the world… again… with the help of new friends and some old ones too
Her closest friends within the inner circle are Vivienne, Varric, Dorian, Iron Bull, Sera, Lelianna, Josephine, Cassandra and Cullen (FYI, I ship my Inquisitor with Cullen, don’t hate me! I’m a basic bitch 😆)
I hope you’ve all enjoyed reading a little bit about Rowan! And maybe I might start working on her story again soon
Maybe…

Celia was a patient and detail-oriented woman who came from a long line of cabinet-makers and had little tolerance for people who neglect their furniture. After the newly appointed Teyrn of Gwaren, Loghain Mac Tir, had spent a month living in a tent instead of seeing to the repairs of Castle Gwaren, Celia was sent as a representative of the town to see whether the new Teyrn would abandon the keep and the village as had his Orlesian predecessors. Their discussion quickly devolved into a shouting match; in the end, she reminded him that he wouldn't be Teyrn of anything unless his freeholders swore fealty to him, which they wouldn't do if he left Castle Gwaren crumbling and empty. Loghain reluctantly followed her advice, appointing Celia to supervise the keep's repairs. Two months later, Loghain asked Celia to marry him, and she accepted.

Happy Friday! For DADWC, how about ❛ i told you not to fall in love with me. ❜? For any pairing you'd like. Thank you!
Have some angsty Loghain Mac Tir and Killian Amell! For @dadrunkwriting
The door to Loghain's modest quarters in the Wardens' barracks flew open, slamming into the wall with a loud bang. Loghain slowly turned, not quite facing the door, or the rampaging mage that rushed into his room.
He'd been expecting this, since the moment two identical letters came from Weisshaupt, one for him and one for Killi- for the commander. Letters ordering him to Orlais, to Montsimmard, on the other side of Val Royeaux.
That had been two days ago, but the commander had been leading an excursion to Kal'Hirol, and due to arrive today. Which was why he was packing, folding the last of his tunics and storing them in a small chest.
"I won't let them!" Killian said passionately, shoving the door closed behind him nearly as aggressively as he'd opened it. "They can't, they have no right! You're a Fereldan Warden. You're my Warden. The First Warden-"
"Has made a decision, the one I would make in his place," Loghain interrupted in a low tone. Decades of delivering bad news were the only thing keeping his voice firm and steady; he knew what he had to do, knew what he had to say to end this the way he must. He'd rather the boy hate him than waste his youth pining.
He knew exactly what that did to a man.
Killian was pacing the length of the small room, one hand tangled in his hair and pulling it loose from the practical braid he kept it in for battle, the other tightly clutching a crumpled scrap of parchment bearing Weisshaupt's insignia. He looked anguished, nearly panicked. He looked the way Loghain had felt when Maric disappeared, when Celia died.
He'd let this go too far, already.
"It's the wrong fucking decision!" Amell's voice cracked into a desperate shout as he quit pacing and positioned himself fully in front of Loghain. He was still wearing his Mage-Warden armor, smudged with dirt and Tainted rock; he must have read the letter the moment he returned. There were Maker-forsaken tears in his eyes, making the mana-touched green sparkle and blur. "'Wardens don't get involved in politics' my arse! I put the king of Fereldan on the throne! I united the bannorn! How's that for politics?!"
Fighting the urge to go to him, to soothe his anger, was physically painful, but Loghain stayed where he was, fingers twisted hard enough in the fabric of a tunic to cut off blood flow in order to stop from reaching out. "It is what it is. Montsimmard is at least better than Val Royeaux."
"No its not, it's even farther! How is that better?" Frustration finally getting the best of him, Killian approached Loghain, his emotions burning off him in random, involuntary bursts of magic: heavy static shocks; waves of alternating heat and cold; flashes of light in every color imaginable, and some not. He pushed relentlessly into Loghain's space the way he always had, not quite touching, but too close to write off as accidental.
"Less of a temptation to return, to interfere. The First Warden may well be right; I have my daughter's ear." And Fereldan's Chancellor's heart, he did not need to add. Killian may not yet have spoken as much, but it was evident in all he did. "The distance will keep me honest."
"... And what of us?"
Loghain had tried his utmost, in the two days he had, to prepare for Killian's touch, to steel himself to what he must say. Even so, he felt the tension drain from his muscles at the first brush of Killian's hand on his chest, held back a shudder of longing when the touch became an embrace he longed to return.
"And what of it? You do not mean me to deny my orders based on a few short months?" he asked, forcing a note of cruelty into his voice. "A pleasurable pass-time, no more than that. You will forget an old man easily, once I am gone."
Killian froze for no more than a heartbeat before pulling back, stiff and inscrutable. Loghain was forcibly reminded of the Landsmeet, then; Killian had worn that same, emotionless expression as he listed Loghain's numerous crimes to the bannorn.
But unlike the Landsmeet, it quickly crumpled like wet linens into an effigy of misery. "You aren't going to fight it."
"I cannot. I would not, even if I could." You deserve better.
Finally, he made himself turn away, laying the wrinkled tunic flat on the bed. "I no longer have a place in Fereldan. You ensured that, near a year ago, when you defeated me in single-handed combat. The traditional outcome is death or banishment, and having been denied the first, I must accept the second."
The added cruelty had the opposite of te intended effect; Loghain wanted Amell angry. But instead, the tears staining his green eyes overflowed. "I love you!" he shouted, flinging an arm out in a wide, wild gesture and sending Loghain's desk onto its side with a wave of force magic.
"I told you not to." Loghain once again turned his back on his soon-to-be former commander.
They stood, frozen like an illumination of the weird Heartbreak, for moments or minutes, until the Warden-Commander of Fereldan admitted defeat for the first time and left the room, and Loghain could safely fall to his knees on the threadbare rug.

Been working on this for so long I need to post a WIP or I will loose the rest of will to continiue. My three beloved Ferelden gals just being pals and totally not controling half the world.
Also I am forever salty that Dragon Age didn't let my Aeducan officially marry Anora. But in my headcanons noone can stop me - I shall create a polycule that is also any Orleasian's worst political nightmare,
I took inspiration from here while drawing the Leliana outfit.
