“Uh, Professor, er, sir,” Harry stumbled over the seldom-used honorifics in his bafflement. “Uh, on your mouth…?”
“Lipstick, Potter,” Snape sneered, the expression all the more pronounced with the cosmetic assistance.
“Oh, uh, it’s, um, it’s black?” Harry hadn’t known lipstick came in anything other than his aunt’s subdued pinks or the vivid shades of red that Petunia considered sinful and salacious (and intolerably reminiscent of Lily to ever be permitted back into the precariously normal life of Number Four, Privet Drive).
“Very good, Potter,” Snape said sarcastically. “Twelve years old and you’ve learned your colors.”
That was pure nastiness and entirely unfair.
“I’m fifteen!” Harry protested, which earned him a merely sardonic eyebrow. “Almost fifteen,” he amended. “I’ll be fifteen on Monday.”
Harry longed to surpass Snape in sheer churlishness and considered pointing out that muggle men generally didn’t wear skirts. Certainly not in Little Whinging. Definitely not when Dudley and his gang were roaming the streets.
He’d seen plenty of oblivious wizards sporting spiffy new dresses as their muggle disguises at the Quidditch World Cup the previous summer (a lifetime ago, before Cedric was murdered and he hadn’t been able to stop it from happening). But there was something peculiarly well-tailored and suspiciously well-worn about the Potions Master’s garb that suggested less “disguise” and more “daily wear”. He found that his brain was oddly unwilling to acknowledge the existence of Snape’s psychedelic cardigan. His mind kept trying desperately to wallpaper something sensible over the bizarre image his eyes insisted on perceiving.
“…nice skirt,” he mumbled.
“Thanks,” Snape drawled the false gratitude out with a smirk. “It has pockets. Dipshit and Dumbass there were too excited to get on the road this morning and didn’t give me any time to do laundry.”
“Am I ‘Dipshit’ or am I ‘Dumbass’?” Sirius whispered loudly, grin gone well past manic.
“I believe Severus called me a ‘dipshit’ among other things for forgetting to take my Wolfsbane last year,” Remus replied thoughtfully, “So, Sirius, that probably makes you the dumbass.”
“I’m more of a hot piece of ass, but okay,” Sirius said with a wink. “Hi, Harry!”
“Hi, Sirius,” Harry said weakly, glad for the excuse to sidle past Snape. “Uh, what are you doing here?” The Daily Prophet hadn’t said anything about Sirius being pardoned and news like that, while less of an urgent headline than Voldemort’s return, wouldn’t lurk about in the society pages or behind an advice column.
“Dumbledore told me to lie low at Lupin’s place,” Sirius beamed with an innocence so intense it could only be artificial.
“And, er, well, what with one thing and another, it really hadn’t seemed like a good time really to mention that I’d been, ah, evicted,” Lupin added, “…again.”
“Renting really seems like such a bother,” Sirius opined. “So I bought a house for Remus here.”
“Oh,” said Harry, who had witnessed Aunt Petunia compulsively twitching the curtains as she tried to discover how Mrs. Number Seven had eluded neighborly surveillance and, somehow, managed to sell her house to a person or persons unknown to the remaining residents of Privet Drive. “Isn’t that supposed to take a long time?”
“Building a home takes a lifetime,” Sirius said sagely. “Buying a house just takes money.”
Snape’s scornful snort brought Harry’s attention back to the least welcome visitor to Little Whinging.
“So, uh, why did you bring,” Harry gestured vaguely, unsure if the word ‘him’ could accurately encompass the snidest professor present, “Snape?” He’d rather noticed that Snape hadn’t lifted a finger to help Sirius and Lupin move any of the large boxes from the lorry into Number Seven.
“Severus knows how to drive,” Lupin explained gently. Sirius’ mouth opened, prepared to protest.
“Severus,” Lupin repeated, louder this time, “Has a valid muggle license to drive.” Sirius’ subsided.
“And I know how to hot-wire cars and lorries,” Severus added smoothly. “And,” Lupin echoed wearily, “ Severus knows how to ‘hot-wire’ muggle vehicles.”
“I’m learning to do that,” Sirius said helpfully, “I’m going to figure it out too. I’ve nearly got it.”
“Talk is cheap, Black,” Snape scoffed starting to stroll in the last direction Harry wanted him to go, “I’ll believe you when I see some tangible results.”
“Wait! Stop!” Harry wondered if he’d get in trouble for tackling a professor outside of Hogwarts. It would be worth it, to try to alter Snape’s trajectory towards the front door of Number Four. “Stop, stop, stop!”
For all Harry’s desperate scrambling, Snape maintained his lead.
“Please stop!” Harry begged as the professor hitched up his skirt slightly, “Use the bell! You don’t have to kick the door in!” Aunt Petunia was probably at the door, surely she’d spied them across the street at Number Seven.
Snape kicked the door, already unlatched in Petunia’s nosy anticipation, open.
Aunt Petunia let out a shrill little scream.
“Hello, Piss-Tuna,” said Severus Snape, far more gleeful than he’d been even when Harry and Ron were facing the threat of expulsion after flying a car into the Whomping Willow. “You look as awful as ever.”
Piss-Tuna, Harry thought as his world tilted on its axis, Snape, Professor Snape, just called my aunt Piss-Tuna. This can’t be happening.
“You—!” Her face was white, her eyes were wide, and Petunia Dursley, née Evans, practically growled in her outrage.
Harry found himself thinking that Brazil might be a very nice place to live. It was far away from Privet Drive, for a start. He wondered what it would take to get there.
“Aren’t you going to invite me in, Tuney?” Snape’s foot had blocked the door from closing. “I’m more than happy to have this confrontation on your front step if you’d prefer.”
“We, ah, brought some biscuits,” Lupin added. “Store bought. Assorted. With chocolate. Er, I’m, ah, we’re the new neighbors. So nice to meet you again.”
Petunia goggled at the lot of them.
She also stumbled back, which Snape seemed to take as an unspoken invitation. Harry found himself dragged along in the professor’s wake, with only Sirius’ hand on his shoulder to steady him in the swift tide of strangeness.
“I can’t believe your taste in interior decoration deteriorated into this level of disgusting kitsch and doilies, Tuna,” said the man who decorated with floating dead things in jars. Severus surveyed the photos on the wall, on the mantle, on the little side table. So many perfectly posed pictures of a happy family of three- mother, father, son- and a lock on the cupboard under the stairs. Narcissa had been absolutely right.
“Is that my jumper?” Harry jumped. Petunia’s voice was high and thin and quite peculiar.
“You’ve really done a terrible job of raising Potter,” said Snape, and Harry bristled. Of course Snape wanted to criticize him, Harry had been expecting the criticism, but he loathed the thought of his two biggest critics were now sharing notes and combining forces.
“Not only is he, like the majority of students, a careless menace in the laboratory, but I have also wasted entirely too much of my already limited time deciphering his atrocious penmanship to correct insipid essay after insipid essay only to see the same flawed reasonings repeated week after week.” It was news to Harry that he was supposed to read the sea of spidery red notes Snape deposited on every essay. It seemed rather unfair, given that Snape could fit five lines of text for every one line Harry wrote. The single “P”, or the occasional and welcome “A”, was more than sufficient in Harry’s view.
“That’s my jumper.” There was a touch of hysteria in Petunia’s tone now.
“He will be taking his O.W.L.s this year, his O-levels if you prefer,” Snape continued, demonstrating more confidence in Harry’s continued survival than Harry typically expected to hear from the Potions Master. “Unfortunately, his current record of scholastic mediocrity, his stubborn refusal to revise, and a peculiar incuriosity about magical theory does not bode well for his continued academic career.”
“You little bastard! That’s my goddamn jumper!” Petunia’s shriek derailed Snape’s momentum. The unexpected profanity from his aunt made Harry’s brain stutter to a halt.
“Tuna,” Snape frowned, “We’re not here to discuss my sartorial decisions and I will never take wardrobe critique from you. I only deigned to enter this suburban hellscape to discuss your horrendous failure to raise and parent Mr. Potter.”
“Biscuit, Harry?” Sirius offered, retrieving the tin from Remus.
“You stole my jumper!” Shockingly, Petunia’s epiphany failed to shatter glass. Yet.
“Didn’t,” sniffed Snape.
“I thought it was Lily who stole my jumper!”
“She did. I just hid it for her.”
“I bought that jumper myself! I’d saved up!”
“Yes, I know.”
“It was for an interview!”
“We wanted to spare you the humiliation of being seen in public wearing such a hideous thing. You even got that position, even if you didn’t keep it for very long.”
The biscuit was rather good, even without tea, and it was beginning to dawn on Harry that Snape and Aunt Petunia were more inclined to tear into one another than join forces against him. He felt oddly inclined to cheer for Professor Snape, despite the ranting about Harry’s scholastic shortcomings. Perhaps it was because Harry knew so little about his mother that every glimpse was a pearl he treasured.
“I want my jumper!” Did she learn that tone from her little Diddykins or had Dudley inherited that petulant demanding pitch from Petunia?
“And I want you to understand how your failure to nourish any academic inclinations Mr. Potter may have shown before the age of eleven may have rather dire consequences for futures beyond his own, but I fear we can’t all get what we want.” Remus handed Harry another biscuit before he could think to protest.
“Give me back my jumper!”
“Fine!” Snape finally snapped, fingers tearing at the buttons in wrathful haste. “Fine, here!”
Petunia caught the cardigan with her face and a squeak.
Severus Snape looked like a stranger again, in the ratty, oversized band shirt, hair disheveled from the jumper’s passage. Harry hadn’t seen the Dark Mark his professor had shoved under Minister Fudge’s nose in the Hospital Wing those few weeks ago, and he found himself oddly glad that the mark was concealed under a peculiar leather bracelet with metal studding. A wand holster, perhaps.
“Are you prepared to face your shortcomings now, Tuney?” That dangerously silky tone was entirely familiar, and Harry took another biscuit before he was told to go serve detention during summer vacation.
“It smells like Cokeworth,” Petunia’s complaint was bitter, for she dreaded the day her neighbors discovered the lingering taint of the Cokeworth streets sullying their Surrey security.
“Hey,” said Sirius, who had gone oddly still.
“I wasn’t going to take it to Hogwarts, was I?” Snape said. “It’s acrylic, you know that sort of stuff doesn’t hold up around magic.”
“Hey,” said Sirius. “Hey.” His face was a rictus of delight, as pleased as Petunia had been put out. “Snape. Isn’t that, isn’t that my shirt you’ve got on?”
“Oh, oh,” snarled Severus. “Not you too!”

Things about wolfstar daughter I’ve imagined in my head but haven’t had the chance to post about. Part one.
Having her own potion shop and selling all her potions at an extremely low price because she doesn’t want anyone to suffer because they can’t afford it. (And because she knows she doesn’t need the money. She charges enough to pay her employees a livable wage.)
Doing things to try and destigmatize werewolves! Like having a corner in her shop dedicated to warewolf education, and selling free homemade baked goods with wolfsbane.
Baking for her dad after full moons.
Seeing Cedric as a big brother of sorts. (Most of the time she’s a hufflepuff in my head) and taking over as quidditch caption after he graduates. (YES, GRADUATES.)
Her being autistic and having special accommodations at hogwarts. Her not understanding people’s tone unless it’s really obvious. Her not knowing when something is a rhetorical question or not.
Her befriending LOTS of slytherins and ravenclaws. (OC’s in my head and stuff)
Her and Draco having a complicated relationship because that’s her cousin and she doesn’t believe that he’s all bad, but still having set him straight when he steps out of line. (Saying slurs, bullying innocent students and her friends ) their relationship alone probably needs it’s own post.
In the event that Regulus lives, her being the one to kind of get him out of his shell a little bit and also him having step away from the sarcasm a little when he’s with her because she doesn’t understand his tone a lot.
In the event that he doesn’t, sitting Sirius on his birthday. Even though he pretends it doesn’t bother him she knows it comes with a lot of complicated feelings for him. So she and Remus kind of just sit with him for a while. Maybe gather on the couch and watch old and cringey movies to get a laugh out of him.
Her having older sisters that she doesn’t remember and reuniting with them at hogwarts.
Her being bisexual, but not even coming out because everyone in her family is some form of queer and she just assumed they would know naturally.

Amorentia || Severus Snape x F!Hufflepuff Reader
Chapter Four || Prey
Word Count: 1393
Includes: Masturbation
The next morning you wake up dizzy and confused, when standing you tumble over. Instantly Cedric runs over to your side of the dorm and helps you up.
"[First Name]? What happened?" He gazes over your body checking for some kind of injury, yet, he can't see under your night robes where the stitches are.
"I'm fine, Cedric, thank you." You say then try to pry his hands off your shoulder but fail.
"You don seem fine. You just fell over!" Cedric exclaims.
"I am fine." You snap, his hands fall from your shoulder blades.
"Alright, just be careful, yeah?" He asks and you can see the concern on his face.
You nod then pick up your bag to leave for class, that is when you got an owl. You recognize it as Professor Snape's owl so you take the letter from the birds talons and read it.
'Ms. [Last Name], you missed your class yesterday afternoon so I would like you to come now to make it up. -S.S'
The letter made it very apparent that he needed you to appear almost instantly, you sigh at the letter then grab you bag and leave the Hufflepuff dorms for his classroom.
Eventually you reach the room in the dungeons, it's a long walk from the high tower that holds the Hufflepuff's but since the hallways aren't as crowded as they usually are you were able to make it there in just under 7 minutes.
You know on the door then open it.
"Professor? I got your letter." You say as you enter the room. Instantly his eyes connect with yours, his dark and emotionless eyes staring at you with an unreadable expression on his face.
"Sit." He motions to the chair you were in when you got the stitches just days ago.
You obey his command instantly as you sit on the other side of his desk, he then hands you the paper that you missed yesterday.
"Notes on the Anti-Paralysis potion the class brewed, write how you made it and what was used." He instructs.
You nod then begin to write on the parchment he gave you, now the only sounds in the room was the occasional sound of the rain outside and the scratch of your quill connected with the ink jar then paper.
Around 20 minutes later you've completed the small assignment and you pass it back to him.
"I'm done, Professor."
He nods and takes the paper, his eyes quickly scans over the words before he nods approvingly.
"Outstanding once again, Ms. [Last Name]." He states then uses a quill to mark the paper.
You instantly smile then feel the sudden rush of desire again, you can't help but push your thighs together tightly to surpress the feeling. In the process your skirt flares up and you swear he saw your black laced underwear.
"I knew it was right to put you in the double excelled class." He says, his gaze completely hyper focused on the paper you submitted to him. You can't help but notice a bit of pink tinting his cheeks. He clears his throat then speaks again.
"Would you like to get started on your classwork for later today?"
"To get ahead of everyone, sir?" You blurt out.
His face deadpans but nods, "If that's how you wish to phrase it, Ms. [Last Name]."
"Oh! Yes, I would then.. sir.." You smile weakly.
He nods then opens a drawer in his desk and pulls out a piece of the paper and hands it to you.
"Were learning about the wolfsbane potion for the double advanced class. Start it now, you have 20 minutes before you have to leave, understood?"
You begin the work and through the work you can't help but to glance up at Professor Severus Snape—ever since you realized what the potion has done you've been wanting to be closer and closer to him. And now is just perfect. You're alone with him in his classroom.
You lock eyes with him for a slim second, you instantly feel the wetness rush back to your core again, you squirm slightly in the seat across from him, pushing your thighs together again. You continue to work on the piece of parchment before you in an attempt to distract yourself when he speaks.
"20 minutes are up, Ms. [Last Name]." He says, his voice making you snap out of your distracting thoughts.
"Would you like me to hold onto the paper for you?"
You nod then hand him the paper, when he reaches for it your hands brush for a slim second. You flush then quickly turn your heel.
"I'll see you later, Professor." You mumble as you leave the room, you swear he didn't hear you but when you look back you see his eyes following you as you exit.
Once you're out of the room you realize it's still early in the morning—around 6am. You still have around 30 minutes before your first class starts. So, of course you decide to run to the same bathroom as you did the day prior.
Rushing to the last stall again you check the stalls—making sure no one else was there you grin successfully as you do. Once you lock the stall door you place your bag on the small hook on the door then take out your wand. Once the wand is out you use a quick spell on the toilet paper, transferring it into a black vibrator. It had a smaller part that rubs against your clit, the larger side that slides deep into your folds. You grin widely, the wetness that had been building up since you saw him—the absolute pressure that has been building since then needs to release. You grab another role from the toilet paper holder and transfigure it into a small lube bottle, you quickly uncap the bottle then pour some onto your hand, lathering it on the toy your smirk grows, the anticipation brewing deep within you. Throwing your laced panties down a cold gush of wind flows through your folds, it makes you whimper. Sliding the toy into your tight heat you let out a loud moan. Clicking the small button on the end of the toy it begins to move, sending waves of pleasure ringing throughout your entire body, moans practically flood out of your mouth as you increase the speed on the vibrator. Your thighs and legs quiver as you continue to stand whilst the toy rubs against you fast, throwing your hands to the side of the stall walls to support yourself your thighs shake. You look around in a sex-haze for another object you can transfigure to truly satisfy yourself. Your eyes land on an empty roll of toilet paper, you shrug then use your wand to transform it into nipple clamps connected by a chain.
Quickly you clamp the toy to your hard nubs and moan.
"Severus!" You shout as you release in your panties. The vibrator keeps moving, overstimulating your used clit. You tighten the clamps around your nipples as you push the vibrator to the maximum speed, desperate to cum again.
As you moan you finally sit back down on the toilet, your legs quaking as you feel the sensation building in your core again. With the very thought of your teacher you squirt again, your liquids starts flooding down your shaking thighs. Your moans ring throughout the stall, filling your ears with the sounds of your squelching cunt and whimpers.
"O-Oh god!" You shout as the feeling of the vibrator makes you feel more pleasure, quickly you push the toy deeper into your tight pussy, moaning louder than before.
Finally you finish for a third time, unclasping the nipple clamps you grunt, they're still hard. You slide the vibrator out of your folds then use a spell to return it back to the toilet paper it was before, you do the same with the lube bottle and clamps before cleaning yourself with a flick of your wand.
Glancing at the watch on your arm you see you've skipped your first class of the day! You've never missed a class before, let alone for something like masturbating to your teacher. Quickly you leave the stall and begin to run to your next class—Ancient Runes.

The Ultimatum Ch 26
Chapter 26
The cottage was quiet and frankly, dismal.
Emeline had returned home with Remus two days prior and to her surprise, they had not spoken since. She wasn’t sure how they even arrived home, when she thought on it. The travel back was a total blur and she had been in such a stupor absorbing this information and watching her father essentially ignore her, that she didn’t have much expression in her.
She had not cried, she had not screamed… they both were simply existing at present.
Sirius found it incredibly unnerving.
He had tried to pull information out of them, owl-ed Harry, and lightened the mood in every way he could, but they were not budging. Harry was despondent and he desperately wanted him here with them, but he was mentally in so many directions right now and Harry wasn’t very talkative either, understandably so.
Sirius did find out one thing: he knew nothing of what transpired between Emeline and Remus outside of Cedric Diggory’s death, though he had seen them leave with Severus.
Sirius was at present seated on the couch in animagus form and Emeline gave him a pat on the head as she walked by. She had a book tucked under her arm and today’s jar of Wolfsbane potion in her hand. Sirius let out a low howl of ‘good luck’ and she headed to the basement, where Remus had been spending most of the last two days. It was dark aside for the candlelight and she could just make out his frame sitting on the old bed in the cellar. He was staring off out the small window, not breaking his gaze with the moon that would be full in two more days time.
“Dad?” She asked gently, pushing the door completely open and stepping inside. She sat at his feet and held up his potion.
“You haven’t taken it today.” She continued quietly, arm shaking slightly as she waited for him to respond to her in any way.
He turned his head very slowly toward her, his face so painfully forlorn and pale. She tried to hide her emotions: the shocked breath she wanted to suck in, her trembling hands and racing heart; her wondering how much he still cared for her… she sighed, knowing he could feel it.
His sad eyes met hers, but not for long.
“I don’t deserve to.” He mumbled. She barely caught what he said.
“What?” She asked breathlessly. “I don’t understand, you told me this was for safety. Why wouldn’t yo-“
“In part,” he replied angrily, gritted teeth. “But the sanity keeps me safe, too.” His voice saddened again. “I deserve whatever the wolf does.”
Emeline slowly set the jar down on the floor with a clink of glass against stone. She pulled out the book from under her arm and moved closer to him. When he didn’t flinch, she responded.
“I found these; my baby pictures. I thought you’d might like to see them.”
She felt the back and forth in her soul:
Angry. Sad. Angry. Sad. Angry
“I don’t.” He replied, still staring out the window.
“Dad?” She was on the verge of tears now, bound and determined for him to break this wall.
She never knew he could be so cold.
“Do you see the pain this is causing you?” He asked in a whisper.
“This?!” She yelled, exasperated, taking him by surprise. “Not this! You! You’ve chosen to be unable to look me in the eye!” Her tears were flowing freely now and he sighed heavily, rubbing his eyes with a tired hand.
“Emeline, not now.” He groaned.
“Yes now!” She shouted, standing abruptly. “You’re being completely careless with yourself and me and it’s unacceptable! This affects me, dad! And here you are making it all about you!”
She felt the sting in her heart but couldn’t be bothered to mind that it hurt him. She knew he needed a wake up call and wasn’t sure anyone had ever given him one whilst deep in his pit of self loathing.
She knew this affliction was hard for him, but she had never expected to be shunned to this degree. Him turning her away at the hospital wing last year was enough - but this far into their relationship?
His resolve was crumbling and she twisted her face in determination to remain sound instead of responding more emotionally to his shaking shoulders.
Then she heard it.
He was crying.
She sat right next to him, leaning her head on his shoulder as his trembling shook her. His tears were mostly silent, but his fear and shame had him sick.
“Don’t cry.” She said quietly. “We can manage this if you don’t cut me out.”
“M-manage!” He shouted, and it made her jump momentarily. She lifted her head and found his eyes, tears still streaming down his scarred cheeks and slight madness pulling from his soul. “I can either offer you premature death or a cursed life! How do you recommend we manage that, Emeline!”
“You aren’t even allowing this to be my choice.” She ventured softly, not breaking his stare. “This affects me. I get a say.”
“That may be true,” he forced out. “But no matter what you choose I could never infect my own daughter!”
“You don’t have to.”
His eyes darkened.
“Emeline Mara Lupin, what are you saying?”
“Professor Snape said I’ll be able to sense out other wolves. It should be easy during a moon.” She stood calmly, picking up the Wolfsbane and holding it precariously above the ground. “And there’s nothing you can do to stop my decision, not if this is how you want to treat your only child who’s now been handed the same ultimatum you were: life or death.”
Remus stood and snatched the potion from her before she could drop it, eyeing her warily.
“Emeline, don’t be cruel.”
He felt the fire of her crushed soul in his own at the word and immediately regretted it.
“Cruel?” She scoffed. “What you’re doing is cruel. Throwing my emotions to the waste side: that’s cruel. I’m not cruel for my own decisions and being a werewolf isn’t cruel, either. Your behavior is!”
“Not cruel! How could I allow this fate to befall my daughter?” He yelled. “The moon sinks out and every bone breaks! Recovery takes days, sometimes weeks. The pain is unbearable and the fear is maddening. It’s shameful and disgusting and I could never willingly walk you to that life!”
“What of me, then? What if you die?” Her voice cracked at the words and Remus’ heart broke. He had never felt this type of emotional pain before.
It felt all-consuming.
Is that what losing him felt like to her?
“Emeline,” his voice came a level down in softness. “What do you want to do with your life?”
She stood shocked for a moment, unsuspecting of this shift in conversation.
Just days before, she had pictured such a lovely holiday, perhaps discussing this all with her father - loving his advice and anxious to see what he thought of her desires.
Hopeful to see if he thought she could achieve them.
She looked down at her bare feet and kicked at some stray hair.
“Well, I want to be a Healer.” She looked up slowly, nervously awaiting his response.
“You can forget it.”
She blinked rapidly in confusion with tears falling, opening and closing her mouth a few times in an attempt to find words.
“If you are like me,” he enunciated every word hard, moving to stand right in front of her, the moon shining against his face. “You will never live out that dream. You will never be accepted for any position half as prestigious and fulfilling as that. How can a monster heal anybody?”
“This isn’t you talking.” She replied, tears falling as she backed up.
He followed her, watching intently.
“Then who?” He cocked an eyebrow. “My monster? We are the same!” He shouted, sending shivers down her spine. “Do you get it now? You cannot separate this torture! I am a monster, Emeline and I will not allow you to be!”
He felt sick.
The moon was partially taking over, but his all-encompassing fear and distress was also speaking.
He was terrified for his daughter.
Embarrassed, ashamed, hopeless.
An emotion came through that he wasn’t expecting though, and it overtook the beast entirely, begging his rightful demeanor to come out.
But it was too late.
Betrayal.
“Werewolf or not, I could never treat my child so vile! How dare you tell me what I will or will not amount to, you’ve been nowhere near me until a year ago! I thought I knew you now!”
“Emeline.” His heart was racing and his body shook as he snapped out of it.
“How you’ve spoken to me is monstrous,” she finished. “And ironically, Moony is nowhere in sight. This was all you!”
“Pup.” He begged, moving to grab her hand.
“Don’t! Don’t call me that, don’t look at me!”
She ran for the door and it shut quickly with a wave of his hand.
“Let me go.” She cried.
“Please, just listen.” He pleaded, she shook his hand off her again.
“I don’t want to hear another word! I’m leaving.” She tore out her own wand and the door slammed open. “Don’t try to die while I’m gone.” She shot back, slamming the cellar behind her.
As she ran up the stairs, tears shrouding her vision, she hardly realized Sirius was in human form again and was listening at the door.
Though not always the physically affectionate type, he pulled on her sleeve kindly.
“I know where you can go for the night.” He said quietly, and they disappeared with a small pop.
Author’s Note: this chapter hurt so badly, but it would be uncharacteristic for Remus to take this in stride when his daughter’s life/ wellbeing is at stake (because of him, so he feels). Where do you think Sirius is taking her? 😉

“Do we have to do this?” Cedric asked.
It was like those words were the magic spell Christian had been waiting for. He released the grip he had on Cedric’s waist and leaned back against the wall. “Okay. Fine.”
And Cedric knew that “fine” was not fine at all, as well as he knew that he was truly upset, even though he said he wasn’t.
Cedric searched for the counter curse, the words that would undo whatever had suddenly wedged itself between him and Christian. He tried the ones he was familiar with first.
“I’m sorry.”
But Christian had his own counter curses ready. “What for?”
“For… being like this. For being so tired all the time.”
“I can’t be upset with you for being tired.”
“But you are.”
“No, I’m upset because you won’t talk to me.”
I reread A Game of Scars and Secrets last night and like, it’s very much a “lmao I wrote a sex scene with my self insert and my favorite character” but it’s also like this really intense exploration of communication in relationships and how we share and process trauma and I lost my fucking mind over wine and cheese with a friend last night like why cant i just fucking do this for a living why cant i write a story that does this on its own instead of couching it in fictional characters other people already own
And like i was rereading it because i was editting an old oneshot i wrote in 2020 struggling with how the world was spiraling out of control and the self destructive habits i fall into when i feel powerless --
“Do you know why Bea was so upset when we asked her about the cake last night?” Sirius asked.
Teddy shrugged. “Because she’s sulking? Because she wants everyone to feel sorry for her so she’s making a bad birthday situation worse intentionally?”
Sirius was an expert at making things worse intentionally, and he had thought that Teddy, who was so much like his mother, might have understood Bea’s frustration. The Black cheekbones may have skipped Teddy, but the flair for the dramatic had not.
“If you can’t make it better,” Sirius said, “then why not make it worse?”
“That’s stupid. I don’t like bananas, but I’m not going to add wolfsbane every time I have to eat them.”
Sirius drummed his fingers against the counter top, trying to think of how to explain what was plainly an insensible reaction in a way Teddy could make sense of it.
“What if you only had bananas? What if you weren’t allowed to eat anything else? Maybe you wouldn’t try wolfsbane, but might you try something else? Anything else? Just to make it different.”
“I don’t know. I guess.”
“Refusing cake is just one way she’s trying to control a day that’s, well, largely outside her control.”
and i just. its good and im proud of it but fuck. can i write a damn book or will i always be cursed to detailing my grief in the margins of other people’s stories
#personal#writing#anyway theres a new oneshot on ao3 i guess i should probably post it on tumblr#hp everyone lives au#hp everyone lives

Chapter 203 will be very late so I am apologizing by posting the first 2800 words because I just finished this section and I have a lot of the chapter left to write but this stands alone so here's an excerpt for you all to enjoy before I post the rest in the next day or two (or three).
The moon is not the only celestial body with cycles. The sun doesn't appear to grow and shrink in the sky over the course of the month, but it does rise in the east and set in the west, on its daily cycle. The other stars, the ones that rule over the night sky, follow their own yearly cycle, as Earth faithfully treads its annual path around the sun. All plants cycle around the sun, on their own time, in their own orbits, their own paths, their own proximity. Their own cycles.
So, too, did Lucy's people cycle around her, when the moon's cycle dictated that she must step back for a night and let the wolf take control.
Lucy was oblivious to these cycles, the routines in which those who love her participated every month.
Certain routines had been curated far enough from Lucy that she was unlikely to ever find out.
Minerva McGonagall always spent the night of the full moon brewing wideye potion. She knew that the Hospital Wing was always well-stocked, but when Remus Lupin had appeared at breakfast on September 6, 1971, wincing as he lowered himself onto a bench and falling asleep onto his toast mere minutes later, she had immediately marched to Horace Slughorn's office and asked for the most detailed brewing instructions he could provide and she ordered two copper cauldrons that same morning. She had always secretly resented potions and avoided the subject whenever possible, despite being reasonably gifted at potion-brewing, but she had made an exception for the Animagus potion and she was going to make an exception for the wideye potion too in order to help a student in need. How much she brewed had changed over the years. When Remus was a first-year, she only needed two copper cauldrons, one potion for Remus and the other for Poppy. By his seventh year, she needed twelve copper cauldrons. One potion for Poppy. One potion for Remus. One potion for Cass, who always understood Remus best and always loved him deepest. One potion for Sirius, who was attached at the hip to Remus and who, quite frankly, always looked tired anyway. One potion for James, who was the most visibly anxious about Remus at all times but especially when the full moon came around each month. One potion for Lily, who had grown quite close with Remus after the Severus Snape incident. One potion for Peter, who was always watching from afar and looking for an opportunity to give Remus whatever James and Sirius couldn't provide (such as silence). One potion for Marlene and one potion for Mary and one potion for Dorcas, who kept a watchful vigil all night in the Gryffindor common room with Lily. One potion for Daphne and one potion for Keira, who kept each other company in the Slytherin common room waiting for Dorcas to return in the morning and confirm that everyone was alright. And one potion for Regulus, who looked tired after full moons every month after he turned in a piece of homework after class on behalf of Remus that was written in a handwriting that wasn't quite Remus's but was a very, very close and careful imitation of it. When Chiara Lobosca was a first-year, she used two of her copper cauldrons, one for Chiara and one for Poppy. By her seventh year, five cauldrons were in use. One potion for Poppy. One potion for Chiara. One potion for Adalyn, her best friend. One potion for Penny, who was working with Professor Snape to learn how to brew wolfsbane. One potion for Talbott, Chiara's first friend. When Lucy Everlin was a first-year, she used three of her copper cauldrons, one for Lucy, one for Cedric, and one for Poppy. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Minerva McGonagall was using five cauldrons. One potion for Lucy. One potion for Fred. One potion for George. One potion for Remus. One for Nymphadora. Next month, she'd be using all sixteen cauldrons she had acquired, for Lucy, for Harry, for Hermione, for Ron, for Ginny, for Neville, for Luna, for Archie, for Henry, for George, for Fred, for Arthur, for Alastor, for Remus, for Nymphadora, and maybe one for herself for once. After nearly twenty-five years of one sleepless night a month, she reckoned it was time she brew one for herself too.
Archie Graye waited for sunrise. As August 28 gave way to August 29, he was nose-deep in a book sprawled across the floor of one of Grimmauld Place's few rooms with a window, eyes flicking up to said window every couple of minutes even though he knew sunrise wasn't for another six hours or more.
Alastor Moody patrolled a different forest each full moon, to prevent anyone else from experiencing Lucy's fate. As August 28 gave way to August 29, he was firing a spell into a tree whose leaves whispered a little too loudly in the breeze.
Luna Lovegood whispered Lucy's name into the night with all of the love she contained. As August 28 gave way to August 29, she was painting Lucy's face onto her ceiling.
Arthur Weasley wrote each of his children a letter saying just how much he loved each and every one of them. As August 28 gave way to August 29, he was halfway through his letter to Percy.
Neville Longbottom researched magical plants other than dittany from different wizarding cultures around the world that had healing properties. As August 28 gave way to August 29, he was just finishing up the book Henry had gotten him for his birthday, already with a bookmark in it for a potential plant that would help Lucy.
Certain routines weren't truly routines, but rather responses to whatever each full moon demanded of Lucy, of those she loves, of those who love her.
Ginny Weasley was the perfect example of adaptation, especially in the past 365 days. Lucy needed someone to button her shirt because her hands were shaking? She was there. Lucy needed someone to play Beater with her? She was there. Lucy needed an Animagus to keep her safe in the forest? She was there. Lucy needed someone to continue the twins' legacy with her? She was there. Lucy was going to the Department of Mysteries? She was there. No matter the phase of the moon, Ginny was there with Lucy. Except for when she couldn't be. When she couldn't be, she lay dormant, stony, silent, still. Waiting for Lucy's arrival, waiting for Lucy to soften her from stone into something more adaptable, more forgiving, something warmer. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Ginny was staring up at the ceiling, stony, silent, still, waiting for sunrise, for morning, for Lucy.
Ron Weasley was the perfect example of adaptation, and he had been since eleven years old when he found himself riding the Hogwarts Express with Harry Potter and Lucy Diggory. Adapting to Harry was as natural as breathing for him after five years, and adapting to Lucy was equally easy. He made sure to eat more than she did before full moons so she didn't have to be self-conscious about it, and he was always sure to bring a snack or two up with him to the common room so he could complain about being full and ask her if she wanted it. On the night of the full moon, he always kept his pocket watch close, to keep an eye on it, to remind himself that his friends needed him and valued him and wanted to include him. He was determined to prove to Lucy that the same was true for her. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Ron Weasley was looking over the Quidditch plans Lucy and Harry had already drawn up, because he knew that they were both always in the mood to talk about Quidditch no matter what the circumstances, and they'd both want to talk about something other than the full moon when Lucy returned.
Certain routines had been established for years, carefully crafted to be hidden from Lucy's observant nature.
Cedric Diggory always went to bed early the night of the full moon, collapsing face-first onto his pillow so his tears were hidden from everyone. He cried every month, without fail, so full of anxiety and grief that he could never dream of expressing his emotions any other way. No words could describe the oppressive weight he felt in his chest, the tension that always crept up his back and pulled the muscles of his neck and his shoulders tight, but tears, bitter and hot but refreshing in their own way, often allowed release that was followed by fitful sleep when he was aided by potions and followed by long contemplative trains of thought when he was not. His tears always dried by morning, replaced by a reassuring smile for his sister, no matter what. Only when she was safe in his hug did the weight begin to lift and the tension begin to ease. He always went to bed early the night after the full moon, too, just to take the time to breathe and take comfort in the fact that his sister was safe again, until the next, until there were no more nexts for him. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Cedric Diggory was in the stars.
Hermione Granger kept a book under her bed that she only read on full moons. She even brought it with her on prefect rounds, once those started in their fifth year. It was The Countess of Montgomery's Urania by Lady Mary Wroth. It had been a gift from her parents on her tenth birthday, because it was the first prose romance written by an English woman. She'd tried to read it when she was ten, really she had, but the book was dense and fantastical and she had struggled to keep track of so many difficult names. She hadn't known at the time that she'd soon be thrown into a world ruled by odd names and magic — the day she started packing for Hogwarts, at eleven years old, she pulled it off her bookshelf and tossed it into her bag. She pulled it out of the bottom of her trunk the night of the first full moon she knew Lucy's secret, and she had pulled it out for every full moon since. Trying to make sense of the story, the names, the magic always kept her mind occupied and prevented it from wandering too far, most of the time. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Hermione Granger was sitting up in bed, reading The Countess of Montgomery's Urania by Lady Mary Wroth by candlelight.
Certain routines were ever-changing, always trying to stay one step ahead of Lucy's detection.
Fred Weasley was the first one in the room with Lucy on August 28. He could tell there was something on her mind, a new pained wisdom in her blue eyes, so he did his best to chase the heaviness away for the night with a barrage of words. Encouraging, light-hearted, humorous, unexpected, and sincere words, to fill the silence, to distract her from his twin's absence. He always tried to be the one to fill the silence in the moments before and after full moons, for Lucy, for George, for anyone else who needed to hear something other than their own worried thoughts. He changed his routine with each moon, spending the night with different people, greeting Lucy different times of the morning so she never thought he was anxiously waiting even though he always was. She never knew that during the full moon, he could never find words to offer anyone, because during the full moon, his own emotions always overwhelmed him. That was part of why he was so glad he'd added his Animagus form to his routine, because hyenas couldn't speak and all he needed to do was run and play with Lucy and George, and he could do that, he was so good at that, Animagus or not. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Fred Weasley was darting back and forth in front of Lucy, trying to attract her attention so George could tap a message to Henry on the door with his paw.
Henry Furls was talking to George Weasley as Fred slipped into the room after Lucy on August 28. He wanted to stay overnight, so he could be there in the morning with Lucy and with George and with Fred, and he refused to take no for an answer. Even though he'd only known Lucy's secret for a fraction of the time the twins had, he had spent the couple of full moons he knew absolutely paralyzed by his fear and absolutely overwhelmed by his feelings of uselessness. He knew he couldn't help, not really, but he couldn't bear to be lying in bed in his flat just wondering if she was okay, not while he still had the option to be close to her. When she went to Hogwarts, he'd have to go back to lying awake, hoping she was alright, but that night, he wanted, needed to be close by, just in case. Her brother wasn't around to keep her safe, so he would, as much as he could. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Henry Furls was sitting in the hallway across from the room where he knew Lucy was, still shaken by the screams he'd heard but listening intently to the Morse code George was tapping against the door. Short long, short long short short, short long, short short. Short short, short short short. Short long long, short, short long short short, short long short short. A-L-L I-S W-E-L-L.
George Weasley was talking to Henry Furls as Fred slipped into the room after Lucy on August 28. He was trying to convince the other boy to just go home, go back to his family or to his flat, just for the night. Long enough that he wouldn't have to hear the screams. But he was never able to say no to Henry, so they made a deal that George would keep Henry posted throughout the night using the Morse code they'd been learning together, just in case. The uncertainty of war had affected everyone differently; Morse code was their back-up plan, should all other communication fail. They were teaching Lucy too, so she could send coded messages in and out of Hogwarts if needed. That night, though, Lucy wouldn't really be Lucy, and George wouldn't really be George. It wouldn't be safe for him to transform back into a human, and the doggy door was charmed to be one-way only for safety reasons, so Morse code would have to suffice for the night. As August 28 gave way to August 29, George Weasley was tapping Morse code against the door and waiting for Henry's response, which came as soon as he tapped the last letter. Short short short, long, short short, short long short short, short long short short. Short short short short, short, short long short, short. Short short long short, long long long, short long short. Long short long long, long long long, short short long. S-T-I-L-L H-E-R-E F-O-R Y-O-U.
And then there was the routine of Harry Potter, which seemed to gain a new element with each full moon, each designed to help Lucy as much as possible. First it was take Lucy to the Room of Requirement at night, greet her in the morning. Then the additional step of taking her to the Hospital Wing. Then the additional step of bringing her a jumper. Then the additional step of sleeping in the jumper. Then two jumpers. Then taking her to Hagrid's at night and greeting her there in the morning. The summer had been different, forcing him to be even more helpless than usual. He knew she was in good hands with the twins, but he felt so helpless just sitting by the diary all night, waiting for her morning message.
And then, it was August 28. Harry and Lucy had been dating for eleven days. All of a sudden, it wasn't just his best friend who was transforming from human to werewolf and back into human. It was his girlfriend.
He knew she was in good hands with the twins, but she was his girlfriend. As August 28 gave way to August 29, Harry Potter was lying on his back in the orchard, cursing the full moon, diary lying wide open and waiting right beside him.

Masterlist | Fred Weasley Masterlist
They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul, that had never been truer for you...
It happened when you were 13, nearing the end of your 3rd year, exploring the forbidden forest with your best friends Cedric and Jess, however at some point you got distracted walking off and losing them. You heard some kind of cry so you headed towards it, as you neared the sounds you found a wolf trapped in some kind of wire fence. It was whimpering in pain, you knew this wasn’t a werewolf but it wasn’t a regular one either, it was a Lupine wolf.
Your father had told you about them, there was a pack that roamed the forbidden forest, they weren’t dangerous in the slightest, in fact they were highly intelligent. They were the product of two werewolves mating during a full moon whilst transformed. You approached it slowly, it seemed to continue struggling in pain but acknowledged your presence. You grabbed the wire pulling it as gently as you could in an attempt not to hurt the animal any further, while removing the last bit of wire you accidentally cut the wolf, causing it to lash out, biting your hip in the process. After you fell backwards yelping in pain, the wolf seemed to calm down, realising in some sense it had hurt you. It then proceeded to howl before curling up next to you, licking the wound as you laid on the your back paralysed from the pain.
A while later another wolf showed up, next to him a very concerned Cedric, Jess, and Hagrid. The wolf sat up but stayed next to you as Cedric ran over first to try and calm you. Hagrid knew right away the animal didn’t mean it, seeing the bit of wire fence and small wounds on the wolfs side, he put together quite quickly what had happened. He carried you back, taking you to the hospital wing, along the way you passed out, you woke to your dad sleeping on a chair beside your bed, along with James and Lily cosied up sleeping on the other side of the room.
Your other dad, Remus, looked incredibly upset as he was talking to Madam Pomfrey, he looked over, noticing you were now awake his face softened muttering something to the women before heading to your bed. It was then he told you something that changed your life forever. Due to the bite being from a wolf born of two people with lycanthropy, you had been infected with it as well. Although, no one had ever been bitten by a Lupine wolf before, so it was unclear what your transformations would look like, due to this it meant you would have to go through your first one without any wolfsbane potion.
During your first transformation you headed to the Whomping Willow with your dad’s, Uncle James and Aunt Lily. Lily had become an animagus later in life after Peter had moved off to America, if it wasn’t obvious enough she and James where soulmates by their Patronus’, her animagus form being a doe was further confirmation.
Lily shifted, staying in the Shrieking Shack with you alone while your parents and James remained outside down by the willow. When you transformed you felt strange, it wasn’t at all how your dad had described, sure, it definitely hurt like hell, but after the transformation part was over, you realised you still felt like you.
You looked up at Lily who seemed to be assessing if you were showing any signs of aggression, she shifted back for a moment as an experiment, allowing you to approach her slowly. She reached out her hand, you moved forward nuzzling your head into her arms.
Lily shifted back as you approached the exit to the willow. As you walked out of the passage, you saw your dad in his form, you wondered if that’s what you looked like too, you saw both your other dad and James’ heads tilt much like Lily’s did when they seen you. The rest of the night was spent running around, before you went back and slept for a while, when you woke up you were naked, Lily draped a blanket over you, giving you some fresh clothes before you headed out of the shack, greeted by your uncle and parents.
Remus despite looking a little rough was smiling brightly at you, walking over right away engulfing you in a hug. He was still upset every month you had to transform like him, but he was happy you weren’t infected with the same kind of lycanthropy, turns out something about the Lupine wolf strain allowed you to keep your senses, meaning you were respectively just an animagus wolf that could and only shift during full moons. Your other dad and uncle James told you how beautiful your wolf form was, saying it looked awesome.
Dumbledore told you since you were no threat to anyone you could spend full moons running around the outskirts of the forest near Hagrid’s. Over the summer before school started again, you told Jess and Cedric. They even snuck out to meet you on the last full moon before you headed off to Hogwarts. You told them since you shared a dorm with Jess, and she and Cedric where your closest friends, it was safer if only a few people knew, despite being virtually harmless there was still a sigma that surrounded those with lycanthropy in the wizarding word
During the next few years things were pretty normal for you, you got used to the transformations, Cedric and Jess even became animagus so they could run around with you on full moons. Cedric becoming a fox and Jess a dove. On one particular night, the three of you ran into the wolf that had bitten you, the wolf appeared to walk around you, after sniffing you it realised exactly who you were, as well as who the dove and fox which accompanied you were. After that night every month you were joined by that wolf along with the other that had gone to get Hagrid that night.
Your furry little problem didn’t hold you back, of course no one knew, even Hermione had no suspicions, she had figured out your dad was one but she was never suspicious of you, because a) you didn’t have scars (minus the one on your hip but no one could see that), b) you didn’t need days to recover after full moons and c) she didn’t notice you gone every full moon because you were a Hufflepuff
The twins and Lee eventually found out when you were in 6th year, because the full moon happened to fall on the night of the yule ball. Cedric felt awful he couldn’t join you both due to being a champion, but you and Jess reassured him it’ll all be okay. Fred had really wanted to ask you but you and Jess always seemed to be running off before he got the chance.
On the night of the ball, he and George were on their way down to the Great Hall with Lee, when they saw you and Jess sneaking out of the castle. Of course, them being them they followed you, watching from afar as you approached the edge of the forest.
“Where in the name of sweet Merlin are they going?” Lee asked
“I don’t know Lee, maybe they decided instead of going to a once and a lifetime event, they’d go a jolly around the forbidden forest ” George said sarcastically, although he was half confused himself
“I don’t under…” Fred voice trails off as he sees you starting to take off your clothes
George and Lees eyes go wide immediately turning and falling to the ground, backs against the log they were just hiding behind, George looks up to see Freds still staring
“Fuck me” Fred breathes out, he couldn’t see much just the outline of your figure in your underwear, as you began to unclasp your bra he realised he really shouldn’t be looking and dipped down joining his brother and friend
“Grand, now you’ve finished being a pervert, why do you think she’s stripping?” George looks between the two even more confused than before
“Maybe Jess and Y/n are shagging?” Lee suggests casually
“Nah Jess likes Sam” George replies as if it was obvious
“Hold on a minute, how do you know that?” Fred looks at his brother, Lee joins him sitting up a bit “I concur how does George Weasley know gossip I don’t?”
“You know Freddie boy if you spent less time goggling at y/n, and you less time at my handsome mug you’d both notice that Sam and Jess have been making eyes since half way through 5th year, not to mention Jess looked heart broken when that Vella chick from Beubaxtions asked Sam to the ball”
“I don’t goggle, wait” Fred realises what George said about Lee “Hold on a minute when did you two…”
Their conversation is ended abruptly by a scream. The boys look up to see Jess was now gone, and you were bent over curled into a ball on your knees, clutching the grass as you cried in pain
“What the fuck…” George breathes out as the three boys watch you shift into a wolf
“Y/n’s a werewolf?” Lee states, his mouth wide open in shock, the boys turn to look at him before back at you, their expressions matching Lees
Fred watches at you’re joined by a dove flying around grabbing your attention as you follow it into the woods, he stares at your receding form, she looks beautiful. He knew he should have been scared but he wasn’t, how could he ever be scared of you.
“We need to leave now” George pulls his brother back trying to make him come back up to the castle
“What why?” Fred protests
“You remember nothing from last year, werewolves attack humans Freddie. She won’t mean to, but I don’t fancy being her late night snack”
The next day, the boys approached you, Jess and Cedric. You panicked a bit at first, trying to explain it away along with Jess and Cedric, but when they seemed to not care even offering to help you you relaxed. You told them Jess and Cedric were enough but if they could keep your secret, you would be forever thankful.
You felt relieved that Fred knew, now you didn’t have to build up the corage to tell him, your heart fluttered when he told you he wasn’t scared, even commenting in private that you looked beautiful in your wolf form.
When they asked how it happened you told them you were bitten near the end of 3rd year, you left you that you were a Lupine wolf, it didn’t seem relevant and it would only confuse them. After that things returned to normal, yours and their trio began to merge into one.
Things started to change a little the now you were in your final year. Your dad talked with you over summer that now you were 17 and growing up, your senses would become heightened along with your emotions as well. You both also had a really awkward conversation that Lily had to finish about how you would become more aroused during certain moons. All of that you could handle, but as your crush on a certain Weasley twin was growing with each passing day, something occured that neither you nor your father would have suspected.
“Your staring again” Jess whispers, breaking you out of your current gaze on the eldest twin
“Am not” you mutter, scrunching up your face, taking a bite out of your dessert
You look back up at your friends who seem to be giving you a look that screamed ‘really’
“Okay, okay maybe I was, but I can’t help it he’s just so handsome, and just look at the way his…” you sigh as you being to stare at him through the space between Jess and Cedric again, getting lost in a not innocent daydream as you get distracted in the way Fred’s muscles were flexing through his shirt
Cedric looks up from his meal at you, ready to tease you for getting lost in your little own little Fred bubble. As he does his eyes widen, nudging Jess to get her attention, she nudges him back before Cedric nods his head at you. Jess’ expression mirrors Cedrics, the both look around to making sure no one else has noticed as they grab your attention
“Y/n, y/n” Cedric grabs your wrists shaking it gently making you look at him
“What?” you snap before noticing the concern in his face “What’s wrong?”
Jess pulls out a small compact from her robe, handing it to you “Gal, your eyes”
You take the compact opening it, your eyes widen as you see them glowing yellow, before it slowly begins to fade. You slam the compact shut, causing most of the hall to look over in your direction, including both of your dads who are sitting at the head table. You were too caught up in your confusion over why your eyes were glowing to care, you look up to see Harry, he mouths ‘you okay’, you shake your head slightly. Harry nods his head towards the door, you stand up muttering ‘meet me by our spot later’ before heading out of the Great hall
Sirius was ready to stand up but stopped when he saw Harry get up and follow you out, meanwhile Fred, George and Lee stare in confusion
“You think she’s okay? Maybe I should go see if…” Fred started, standing slightly but George pulls him back down
Lee chuckles “Calm down lover boy, Harrys away after her I’m sure she’s fine mate”
“You think?” Fred asks staring at the exit to the great hall, usually he would tell Lee to knock it off when he teased him about you, but he was too worried to care in that moment
He’d had a crush on you since Ron had invited Harry over for Christmas during his and your 4th year, Harry brought you with permission from Molly as you were practically his sister being brought up together. After he learned of your secret, you started to hang out with the twins more, he had even gone to the library researching everything he could so he could understand how to help you. He noticed that before the full moon you were more irritable, but you would also blush more as well. He blushed himself when he read in some book werewolves tended to be more aroused before certain moons and how it could be worse for females when their ovulation syncs up.
He tested the water a couple times to see if you felt the same, like when he put his arm around you during the Hogsmeade trips to which you leaned into, or when he gave you his sweater to wear when it got a bit chilly up in the stands during the Ravenclaw vs Slytherin match, the same one he saw you wearing when you stayed in Ginny and Hermione’s dorm with Jess when you had a girls night a few days later. He was almost certain you liked him back, and he had decided that this year would be the one he finally made a move
“Y/n” Harry asked as he approched the spot in the library you always went when you were worried or upset
“Hi” you smile sadly up at him
Harry takes a seat next to you, giving you a small side hug, rubbing your back
“You want to talk about it?” you shake your head “Is there anything I can do to help?”
You look over at him, contemplating something for a moment
“Do you have your cloak on you?” he nods a little confused, yet intrigued at the same time “I need you to sneak me into the restricted section”
Harrys eyes widen at your request, “I mean…yeah sure, can I know why?”
“I need to find a book on Lupine wolves, I need to figure out what’s happening to me, my eyes they were…” you hesitate for a moment “…they were glowing yellow earlier”
“Wow, really?” he smirks a little, you nod “That’s so cool”
“Thanks, Harry” you chuckle a little before continuing “It is kinda cool, but…I can’t have my eyes glowing randomly, people will figure out pretty quickly somethings up”
Harry nods, taking out his cloak from his bag “Let’s go break into the restricted section then…we’re definitely marauders children” you giggle as Harry throws the cloak over you both
“Oh Helga!” Jess exclaims, as she and Cedric were unable to control their laughter
The three of you were currently sitting by black lake, showing them the books chapter, which described what was happening to you
Cedric was holding the book and his giggles as he recites the passage “A Lupine werewolves eyes change colour depending on the emotion they are feeling, it usually only occurs during the days prior to full moon or if the emotion is incredibly strong…” he starts breaking down in giggles so Jess takes over
“The colours represent different emotions, blue represents sadness and/or grief, red signifies anger, yellow…” she tries to hold in her giggles “yellow represents attraction and…lust during which the wolf in question desires to…mate!” She bursts out in laughter
“Guys shut up!” you bury your head in your hands, face going bright red
“Oh Merlin, I can’t believe Harry was there when you read it” Cedric laughs, clutching his stomach
“Poor kids not gonna be able to look at you for weeks knowing you were eye fucking Fre-”
“Jess!” you throw the grass you had been picking at towards her “It was so embarrassing, it was worse than when my dad tried to explain that once every few full moons I’d get…you know”
“…Extra randy” Jess winks, wiggling her eyes brows
“Alright, alright, enough teasing” Cedric moves next to you, wrapping an arm around you
“What am I going to do, I can’t control it! What if it happens again, I’ll freak him out”
“You could always tell him” Jess suggests
“Oh yeah! I’ll go right up to him and say…” you stand up gesturing to the air acting out your next sentence “Hi Fred, you know how I’m a werewolf well I’m not just a regular werewolf I’m a Lupine werewolf with magic eyes that tell you I want to mate and have all of your puppies”
“Puppies?” Cedric gives you a knowing look
“Oh...shut up” You sit back down burring your head between your legs, hands on your head groaning, “Seriously though what am I going to do?”
“The book says it’s only happening because it’s a few days before the full moon so just stay away from Fred during that time, we’ll help don’t worry. I think you should think about telling him though, don’t mention what your eyes mean just say it happens sometimes it’s a wolf thing, it’s not like we get taught that in class, he’d probably love it anyway” Jess has joined your other side now giving you a hug
“I’m not going to tell him it’s too embarrassing, plus Georgie told me that when he first found out I was a werewolf he did a bunch of research on how to help me. I’ll just avoid him until I find a way to control it”
“Maybe we could find a potion or something that could help hide it, that way you can still see him? Plus, the book says it’s all emotions, sure, they’ll probably be more sensitive to Fred but you could still get angry or nervous” Cedric suggests
“You really think we could find a way to hide it?” you look up at them with hope, they nod smiling at you as you all move in for a group hug
“No more teasing?” you ask your best friends
“Oh, little wolf, you know we can’t promise that” Cedric winks at you, you roll your eyes beginning to smile a bit
Over the next months you avoided Fred as much as you could, problem was something about the distance from him made your inner wolf cry. Jess and Cedric didn’t want to mention to you that when their latest potion to hide your glow failed, your eyes started to glow a faint blue. The longer you avoided Fred the more your eyes began to glow blue constantly during the days of the full moon, even when you had transformed.
Fred was growing worried about you, ever since that day in the hall you had ran out you had been acting weird. You started avoiding him like the plague, his heart ached when he saw you still spoke to everyone but him. At first, he thought maybe it was a bad transformation but it had been just over two months, he decided he had to get to the bottom of why you were avoiding him.
You were currently picking at your food, sitting with your back to Fred. Cedric and Jess were growing concerned, especially after she told him that last night you had been crying and your eyes had started glowing blue even though it was nowhere near a full moon
Fred stared over at the back of your head, almost as if he was trying to read your mind, figure out what was wrong.
“You alright?” George askes, he and Lee noticed your behaviour, it killed them to see how upset Fred was with your absence and as well as your own depressed mood.
They had tried to talk to Jess and Cedric, Fred had even approached them multiple times but they wouldn’t reveal anything, they just said it wasn’t their place to tell
“Yeah…I just wish I knew what was going on” Fred sighs putting his head on the table
“Hey guys…” Harry raised an eyebrow as he sits down “…what’s wrong with him?”
“Your sister from another mister has been avoiding him” George answers as Fred looks up at Harry
Fred had pin pointed that you had started acting strange after that day you ran out, he felt stupid for not asking Harry sooner, although Harry was a bit preoccupied pinning after his sister.
“What happened that day when you followed her out? It must have to have something to do with that, she’s been avoiding me since then”
Harrys cheeks heated up remembering what he read that day, he was so mortified. His mouth formed the shape of an ‘o’ as he realised Fred had been the cause of her problem, to which his face then formed into disgust, I really wish I had the courage to go sit with Gin now.
“What’s that face?” Fred looks at him almost matching his expression except his is laced with a mixture of concern and confusion “You know something, spill it” he points at him
“I…I know nothing” he stutters as he tries to rush the words out
“You so do know something. If you tell me I’ll put in a good word with my sister and you can have our blessing to date her” Fred bargains, in truth Harry always had their blessing and he knew for a fact Ginny already like him, but Harry didn’t know that
Harrys eyes widen as he thinks for a moment, damn it, they know she’s my weak spot
“Fine” he takes out a bit of parchment, writing the section the book was in, handing it to Fred “You are the only one who gets to see the contents, you two stay away” he points at George and Lee
“87, 88, 89…bingo” Fred pulls out the book from the shelf, sitting on a nearby desk he brushes off the cloak Harry lent him, Lupine wolf?
Fred reads the book, it was just on some kind of wolf that he had heard lived in the forbidden forest. As he finished he wondered why Harry told him to look as this book, why this was relevant, then it hit him, she was bitten by this kind of wolf.
Fred then remembered Harry’s disgusted face from earlier as well as the way you wouldn’t even look in his direction anymore, or the way you would hide your face from him. Flicking back through to the chapters, he stopped on the passage about eyes, he started to blush as he read it again
A lupine werewolves eyes change colour depending on the emotion they are feeling, it usually only occurs during the days prior to a full moon or if the emotion is incredibly strong. The colours represent different emotions, blue represents sadness and/or grief, red signifies anger, yellow represents attraction and lust during which the wolf in question desires to mate, green symbolises the wolves love and adoration for their chosen mate, purple displays fear…
“She likes me” Fred breathes out, his face morphing into a cheeky one “She really likes me”
You were currently headed back from your last class of the day, you were able to leave early since you finished everything there was to do
“Y/n!”
You didn’t even need to turn to know who it was, it was then you realised there was nowhere to run this time. There was no one else around, you couldn’t run and lose him in a crowd like you usually would, and physically running away wouldn’t work considering you were dealing with a giant that could easily catch up
You sigh turning around, the full moon wasn’t for a couple week so your eyes shouldn’t act up, but seeing him after so long made your heart flutter, something inside you felt warm and fuzzy.
“Hi Freddie” you say shyly, fiddling with your hands
“Hey love” he smiles brightly at you, “How you been, it feels like forever since we spoke”
You bite your lip, looking down at the ground, you felt guilty avoiding him now “I’m doing okay” you answered although both of you knew it was a lie, the tone of your voice was low and broken, it made the boys heart hurt for you. He understood why you were avoiding him, he didn’t blame you in the slightest, he just wanted to let you know he felt the same way.
“What’s that?” your eyes widen seeing a very familiar cover poking out of his bag, you start to feel short of breath, he knows
“Oh…emm” Fred scratches the back of his neck, he freezes as he sees your eyes start to glow faintly, she’s scared, fuck say something, for the love of Godric Gryffindor himself say anything, don’t just stare at her
You look up, noticing his stare, turning your head to the side, you catch your reflection in the glass of the window, your eyes were purple, fuck fuck fuck
You stumble backwards a bit, as you do Fred notices your eyes are glowing brighter as you both can hear people starting to move about in the classrooms nearby. Fred launches forward grabbing and pulling you into a nearby broom closet.
“Hey you’re okay, you’re safe now. Please don’t be scared love” he pulls you into a hug, you tense up as he wraps his arms around you before you burry your head into his chest, breathing in his scent you relax instantly
After a few minutes you pull apart “You feel better” he places his hands on the sides of your shoulders looking down at you, “Yeah” he smiled seeing your eyes were no longer glowing
“Umm…Freddie…I” you struggle to form a sentence, you had absolutely no idea what to say
“Is this why you’ve been avoiding me?” you nod “Why didn’t you just tell me, you know I’d never judge you for anything” one of his hands move to push some hair out of your face
“I know you wouldn’t, it’s just I was embarrassed and I...I thought maybe it would freak you out. I mean it’s bad enough I’m a werewolf without having freaky magic eyes too” you let out a breathy laugh as you look anywhere but Fred’s eyes when you finish
“Look at me” he guides your face to look up at him “I love everything about you y/n, I love the way your nose scrunches up when you think, I love that you spent over a year perfecting the ability to mess with Pusey and his friends across the room using non-verbal magic, I love your smile, your laugh, Merlin I could go on for days if I you wanted me too. I love you just the way you are, wolfey powers and all”
He cups your face, “For what’s its worth...your eyes are beautiful darling” his eyes filled with love and adoration
As you look up at him you realise why he’s so happy, you could see the glow in the reflection of his eyes, they were glowing green
“I’d really like to kiss you now”
You nod, his smile widens before he dips down, capturing his lips with yours. You melt into the kiss, bringing your arms up around his neck. After a while you pull apart, panting a little as you both catch your breath.
He gives you a cheeky grin “So when do I get to see the famous yellow ones” he wiggles his eyebrows
“Fred!” You whine as you bury your head into his chest
a/n: I really like my lupine wolfs ability to change eye colour so I might use it in other stories, what do you think yes or no?

“Don’t kill him. You’ll go to Azkaban for a real crime this time.”
That made Sirius pause. He returned the wand to Remus, keeping a tight grip on Peter. Not heeding Sirius’ advice, Pettigrew began sputtering thanks to Harry. The boy shook his head.
“We aren’t letting you go. You should take his place, go to Azkaban for what you did to my parents. Let the Ministry and the dementors decide what to do with you.”
Your dad chuckled, gravelly with all sweetness missing. “You are Lily Evans’ son alright try transforming back into a rat before we hand you over, Wormtail, and I’ll kill you. Forget Harry’s kindness.”
The man swallowed hard and nodded. Lupin performed spells to tie up Peter and Snape before mending Ron’s leg to the best of his ability. Your father apologized to Ron, insisting that he was aiming for the rat. Ron tried to brush it off like it was nothing— more for your sake than anything really. You all made your way back up the tunnel. Lupin held on to Peter, Ron leaned on Harry for support. Hermione carried Crookshanks back and occasionally checked behind her to make sure the floating Professor Snape who was still knocked out was in fact behind you all. You and Sirius led the pack, your father wrapping an arm around your shoulder. Lupin called out to his friend who turned his head to look.
“When we turn him in this means you’re free.”
Sirius sighed. “Freedom, haven’t felt that idea be possible in a long time… what’s the first thing you want to do, Poppet?”
“Will you sign my permission slip for Hogsmeade? Uncle Remus keeps busting me and making me pay in candy.”
The gravelly laugh erupted from Sirius. “Absolutely! And then?”
“Teach you to be nice to Kreacher.”
“He’s still alive?”
“Yes and a very nice house-elf.”
Sirius rolled his eyes. “I will very very reluctantly learn to be nice to our devil of a house-elf for Poppet’s sake.”
“Good, one more thing.”
“Don’t tell me you want me to make nice with Bellatrix. I’ll hex her the next time I run into my brat of a cousin. Almost bit her when escaping my cell just for good measure.”
“I want to go home.”
That small statement made Sirius pause just at the opening of the tunnel. He turned to look at you completely. He nodded his head minutely and the faintest, most broken looking smile graced his face.
“Yeah, (Y/N), we can go home.” He turned to Harry. “You can come stay too, boy. Remus is in charge of (Y/N) if anything happens to me. I’m in charge of you for James and Lily— if your aunt and uncle let you. They have real guardianship.”
“They might say no just to spite me but I’ll ask!” Harry said, enthusiastically.
Even if the Durselys said no, he could always visit for a vacation. Anything was better than spending all his time with his aunt and uncle. You all made your way out, avoiding stepping too harshly and waking up the Whomping Willow tree. The march up to the castle began when everyone was safely out. Your father left your side to run to his friend.
“Remus, Remus, did you remember?”
The man shook his head. In the haste of finding Sirius when he realized that the four of you were still at Buckbeak’s execution, the man forgot to take the wolfsbane potion. Remus shook his head and his whole body began to shake violently. His eyes went to black.
“Children, run!” Sirius yelled at all of you. “Run— Now!”
You, Harry, Ron, and Hermione headed back towards the castle. Lupin, now a fully transformed werewolf, casted Sirius aside and began to follow the easy targets that you were. Sirius transformed into his Animagus form. Pettigrew used the chaos to his advantage, transforming into a rat and fleeing.
Ron led the way as he darted into the woods. The forest provided some form of shelter but had split the four of you up. You and Ron had been separated from Harry and Hermione. The two of you darted behind a tree, holding your breath, as you watched the werewolf slink past you.
A cawing noise garnered his attention. Ron grabbed your arm and ushered you in the opposite direction. The two of you continued your hushed run until you saw the stones of the castle. Ducking behind the stone ledge, you two waited impatiently for Hermione and Harry. You got more worried by the minute when you didn’t see them or Sirius or Snape. Ron hissed and grabbed at his leg.
“Ron!” you gasped.
The stitches that Lupin had given had busted open again from the running. With the adrenaline gone, Ron realized how much pain he was in— he began to think that his leg might be broken. You stood back up briefly to check on the outside, breathing in relief when you saw Snape appearing with three stretchers floating behind him, one with chains wrapped tightly around it. You ran to him.
“Professor, Ron is hurt!”
Without missing a beat, a stretcher was conjured up for Ron and you followed Snape as he led everyone to the infirmary. Madame Pomfrey jumped at the sight, alerting Dumbledore to be down at the infirmary right away. You stayed in the infirmary all night. They had taken your dad, much to your protest.
Harry groaned when he woke up. He wiggled his toes only for them to hit something that wasn’t the edge of the hospital bed. His eyes opened to see you sitting cross-legged with your eyes closed at the edge of his bed. You were resting your chin on your hand and he was positive he could see you drooling. Laughing, Harry sat up and shook you from your nap.
“Oh, good, you’re up. Madame Pomfrey!”
The nurse came out immediately to see the entire Golden Quartet now awake. She checked on Ron and Hermione first before moving to Harry. You looked at the newspaper tucked under her arm to see your father’s mugshot plastered all over it once again. You grabbed the paper and read the front page.
“Where is he?” you asked frantically.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Black. They’ve caught him. He’s getting the Kiss now, the dementors are preparing upstairs. You are all safe now.”
“WHAT?!”
You, Harry, and Hermione ran before Madame Pomfrey could catch any one of you. You didn’t get very far, running into Dumbledore right outside. He held a hand up to silence the unintelligible protests coming from the three of you. Harry was given the floor to speak, Hermione filling in all the little details.
“Professor Snape has already reported to the Minister. He even reports that Black confunded you all.”
“He was knocked out! He doesn’t know,” you tried to reason.
Dumbledore looked at you. “Professor Snap—”
“Is ly—”
“Let me finish. Professor Snape is sure in what he saw. I cannot convince these men of otherwise.”
“Do you believe us?”
Dumbledore nodded. “What we need is more time. More time and they could see the truth. I’ll see what I can do. More time.”
You all looked as Dumbledore walked off— he seemed to be in no rush to you. You gritted your teeth in irritation.
“More time? We don’t have more time! Saying it three times doesn’t suddenly give us more.”
Hermione made a noise that you had never heard her make before. “Of course, how could I be so daft?”
She pulled out a golden necklace with an hourglass in it. Speaking faster than she ever had in her life, Hermione explained how she had been using the time-turner that McGonagall gave her to attend all of her classes. The three of you ran back into the infirmary to avoid anyone— that was one of the rules that Hermione explained, you can’t be seen using it. Madame Pomfrey had gone back to her office. Hermione looked over at Ron. His leg was still injured even with Madame Pomfrey’s healing.
“I’ll stay with him,” you offered.
“Are you sure?”
“How helpful am I with no magic? Just make sure Snape is woken up to see Pettigrew… and try to get everyone safely away from Professor Lupin.”
The other two nodded and you sat with Ron. He began to ask questions and you simply distracted him until Harry and Hermione disappeared. Ron was adamantly shaking his head. He went wide-eyed and pointed right behind you.
“How did you two— you were just there.”
The three of you laughed while you poked Rons good leg. “Don’t be ridiculous, Ron, how can they be in two places at once?”
Ron agreed but was left very confused. Dumbledore called you outside where he was standing with Snape and your father was still knocked out on the stretcher.
“Severus has told me of what has transpired last night,” Dumbledore said. “With Pettigrew no longer here, Sirius is not innocent immediately. I will write to Fudge but he can’t be seen here for someone else to find, Ms. Black. He will have to be taken to a holding jail on campus.”
With the final day of school officially here, every student that hadn’t gotten permission to leave early was spending their freedom at Hogsmeade before catching the Hogwarts Express that afternoon. Ron was finally let out of the hospital but no one felt like going to Hogsmeade. You were all sitting outside on the steps of Hagrid’s hut. Hagrid was excited, probably more excited than everyone.
Apparently, Buckbeak had escaped before his execution and the Minister agreed with Dumbledore that it was too much of a hassle to chase down a hippogriff for such a small offense. Lupin came strolling over, for the first time in a nice suit rather than his frayed clothing.
“Are you ready?” he asked.
You stood up and brushed out your dress. You and Lupin were going to testify on your father’s behalf— Snape was already at the Ministry with Dumbledore. There wasn’t a confirmation of trial but they agreed to let Dumbledore bring Sirius Black to the Ministry of Magic. You were told to be in the best clothes you owned. Harry, Ron, and Hermione wished you luck and gave you the final goodbye wave of the school year.
The Ministry of Magic was an intimidating place. It only seemed to get larger as you made your way to the room where your father was. You were sure the whole Ministry was there when you entered the room. The Wizard Council and every single Magical Enforcement Squad member. At the head were Cornelius Fudge and Barty Crouch Sr— who had long been demoted to the Department of International Magical Cooperation but had to be here to see Sirius Black. Cornelius looked down at your father who was dressed in decent clothes thanks to Dumbledore.
“Mr. Black, you acknowledge that you have come to the Ministry of Magic willingly,” Fudge said.
“Yes.”
“Willingly coming must be considered, ladies and gentlemen. Mr. Black, you may choose. Azkaban or the Dementor’s Kiss.”
“What?” you yelled. “That’s not fair.”
Lupin held your struggling form back— you cursed the man for his surprising strength because he certainly didn’t look it. The wizards and witches on the council watched uncomfortably as you thrashed about in the man’s arms. Dumbledore and even Snape began to calmly advocate for Sirius, telling Fudge that only an innocent man would walk themselves into the Ministry with such serious charges against him. Wands were drawn suddenly when they noticed that Sirius had gotten up— no one saw that Dumbledore had unlocked him— and strolled over to you. Lupin only let go because Sirius was in front of him. Sirius hugged you tightly, stroking your hair gently.
“It’s okay, (Y/N). I said this could happen, told you not to come looking for your old man, Poppet. It’s alright.”
“No!” you yelled and broke out of his grip and faced the entire council. You pointed at Barty Crouch.
“It’s not fair because you never gave him a trial! You said it wasn’t worth your time. My father didn’t kill anyone, he didn’t do it. I’ll do anything, I’ll take Veritaserum.”
“Ms. Black,” Barty Crouch started— highly offended that you dared to call him out. “Powerful wizards can go against the effects. A potion so unreliable has never been used in a trial.”
“I’ll take it, not him.”
“If he has confunded you? Of course, you would believe you were telling your truth. Your father seems to have gotten to you somehow.”
“No! If not that then something else. I-I’ll-I’ll accept the Cruciatus Curse to prove it.”
“(Y/N)!” Sirius and Remus yelled.
“NO! It’s not fair! You shouldn’t die. Dad should have a fair trial, PLEASE!”
Your voice rose unnaturally high and the tears streamed down your face, your nose starting to run. Snape used the moment to his advantage. He turned to the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement— Amelia Bones.
“Surely, you know that isn’t how the law works, Councilwoman Bones. You can’t let the Minister bypass the law. Word will get around. And you’ve stressed the poor girl out, she offered to be tortured.”
Amelia cleared her throat, uncomfortable at the thought of an Unforgivable Curse being used on someone as young as fourteen and not to mention innocent. You bit down on your hand to stop your sobbing noises from getting too loud. The room went silent as they waited for the Department Head to speak.
“Mr. Black wasn’t given a trial once, we will not break the law again. Someone please clean up the girl and we will proceed.”
The trial went on longer than you imagined. Memories were pulled from you, Sirius, Lupin, Dumbledore, and Snape— Lupin hanging his head in shame as his werewolf affliction became known to everyone. You were given Veritaserum. Barty Crouch protested to both stating that they were known to be unreliable because the brain alters memories sometimes. Told to state your proof of Sirius’ innocence and what you witnessed.
And when all five of you did the process once, you did it again in a different order. And then once more with the others out of the room so the council could ask questions. You didn’t realize how much you were shaking until you were the last person left and every adult that you trusted was no longer in the room. Amelia Bones calling your name made you turn your head from the door that Dumbledore just closed to all the Ministry workers in front of you.
“Ms. Black, Remus Lupin in his memory shows you two having a conversation about Mr. Black. You maintained the entire time that Mr. Black was innocent even when his best friend potentially suspected him. When was this?”
“Fall, after Halloween.”
“Can you give us a more specific time?”
“No,” your voice shook. “After Halloween, before Christmas.”
“Early December or November?”
“I’m not sure, I don’t k—”
“Relax, sweetheart,” Amelia tried to comfort. “You are not in trouble. We are merely trying to figure out all the information.”
You nodded and relaxed the fist that had been gripping the bottom of your dress till you were sure that your knuckles would split open from the pressure. Amelia smiled and took a deep breath with you. She requested that all members of the Ministry— including Minister Fudge— direct their questions to her and she would be the only one to communicate with you.
“Alright, let’s try again. Do you remember when you talked to Remus Lupin about Mr. Black’s innocence?”
“After Halloween, before Christmas… November! Professor Snape took points from Gryffindor and assigned a very long essay on werewolves so I went to Professor Lupin when I… figured out that he was one.”
“You’re sure it is November?”
“Yes. Professor Snape was only substituting because Uncle Remus was gone and the full moon lasted longer than normal. Another one didn’t occur until December. I know because I had to keep track to become an Animagus correctly.”
“Uncle Remus, yes, let’s talk about that. You found out Remus was your godfather. Did you always know?”
“No, I didn’t.”
“But he did?”
“Yes.”
“And you found out before or after your first contact with Mr. Black.”
“After.”
“In any of your letters did Mr. Black try to convince you he was innocent?”
“He didn’t have to.”
“But did he?”
“Not— not directly. He mentioned he should’ve stayed strong to try and clear his name but never anything else.”
Amelia nodded before scribbling something with a quill. You began to mess with your dress again, fearing that you said the wrong thing. The others were called back into the room. You wouldn’t look at your dad— not if you were the reason for his conviction. You wouldn’t look up when Amelia began the raising of the hands to see if they thought Sirius was guilty or innocent. You only looked when you heard a sigh followed by a thud. Your father was crying.
“The Ministry extends their sincerest apology for your false conviction. Congratulations, from this day on you are now a free man, Mr. Black,” Amelia Bones said. “We’ll leave you to collect yourself while your papers are filed— you do in fact have to register being an Animagus, Mr. Black.”
The members of the Ministry exited the room until it was just you, Remus, and Sirius left— Dumbledore and Snape had exited with the rest of the members. Sirius stood up and you finally left the chair to give him a hug. The two of you rocked back and forth before letting go. Sirius wiped at his tears with his sleeve.
“Let’s go home. That sound good, Poppet?”
You nodded so hard you were sure that your head might roll off of your neck.
“Are you coming, Moony?”
“I’ll visit soon. I suspect with the trial details coming out, I should be on the lookout for a new job.”
“You’re not going to keep teaching? You’re literally the best Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Uncle Remus.”
He chuckled. “I am the only one you’ve ever had. It isn’t safe to be around children, parents will say that. After my incident, I agree. Maybe in the future but I should leave for a year or two. I’ll visit you two when you’ve settled in.”
Remus and Sirius hugged before you all went your separate ways. Naturally, Sirius took his new found freedom to apparate you two back to Grimmauld Place. He wanted nothing to do with his old house— he wasn’t even sure if it was still there. It was too close to James and Lily, was the spot where Alicia died, was the place he made the worst decision of entrusting Wormtail. Grimmauld Place, no matter how hard Kreacher tried, was a dusty and rundown place. The minute you landed inside, the large portrait of Walburga Black began to yell. You and Sirius both covered your ears until he had it.
“Mother, shut up!”
Kreacher came running down the hall. He was very pleased to see you and not so excited to see Sirius. Both Kreacher and Sirius were told to be cordial to each other. Sirius pointed to the little elf.
“Nice sweater,” he said awkwardly as if trying to be sincere.
“Thank you, Mistress (Y/N) gave it to me.”
“Doesn’t that mean you’re free? You don’t want to leave?”
“Kreacher wants to stay.”
“Of course he does,” Sirius muttered under his breath. “Well, can you figure out a way to shut mother up… please.”
You complimented your father on his rough attempt at being nice. With Kreacher’s help, the place was cleaned up in time for dinner. The dinner table— mainly its inhabitants— seemed out of place. A man with an emaciated frame, a girl no longer in trial clothes but a large hoodie, and a house-elf in a sweater.

“Who will wake them? No one ever will... No one ever told them that a summer day can kill... They were schoolboys -- never held a gun -- Fighting for a new world that would rise up like the sun! Where's that new world now the fighting's done?”

A/N: Hi guys! Before we get started, let me explain some things!
Firstly, yes, that guy on the left? That is my personal version of Remus Lupin, based on how I imagined him, while reading the books -- young, but still oddly worn-out and graying; slender, pale, and not traditionally handsome with a tired, almost melancholy face that could nonetheless communicate both sincerity and boyish mischief whenever he smiles. (To give you an idea, my personal fancast for Remus as an adult these days is Tom Hiddleston, who captures that aspect to me.) But yeah, David Thewlis never really captured how I visualized Remus, not just because he (like the rest of the actors playing the Marauders and Snape) was way too old and I thought the scratches the make-up department gave him made it WAY too visually obvious he was a werewolf when Remus hated his condition so much that I can’t imagine him not trying to magically hide them...but in my own headcanon, I personally always saw Remus never liking facial hair, at least on himself. I thought that a person who grows hair all over his body when he turns into a monster wolf once a month would be really uncomfortable looking the least bit scruffy, and so even if when he was homeless, he might gain some stubble, he’d try really, really hard to stay neatly groomed. (Contrast this to someone like Sirius, who I totally see being the type to grow his hair out and embrace the scruff.)
Secondly, this ficlet is set in 1995, circa the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and will feature not just Remus and Sirius, but also Chiara Lobosca from the game Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery (pictured in the center!). There will also be some references to my MC Carewyn Cromwell, just because she’s close friends with Chiara, but I tried to keep this focused more on the dynamic between Remus and Chiara, the first of whom is my favorite character in the original books and the second of whom is one of my favorite characters in the HPHM game.
Finally, here are some of the other songs I listened to, while working on the art for this project: “In My Life” also from Les Miserables, this cover of “Days in the Sun” from Beauty and the Beast (2019) by Georgia Merry Jones, “Children Will Listen” covered by Barbra Streisand, “Shadowland” from The Lion King (musical), and “Flagmaker 1775″ from Songs for a New World.
So there you go! Hope you all enjoy...and if you do, please consider liking/reblogging/commenting! 🐺

In mid-1995, the Triwizard Tournament ended with the sudden, tragic death of Hogwarts champion Cedric Diggory. Although the vast majority of the Wizarding World wasn’t told the reason for it, there were those who believed Harry Potter’s account from the offset. One of those people, understandably, was Sirius Black, who was instructed by Albus Dumbledore to lay low at his old friend Remus Lupin’s place for a short while and await further instructions. Once he had made proper arrangements, the Hogwarts Headmaster contacted Remus and Sirius, and the two went about recruiting the “old guard” that had made up the Order of the Phoenix, as well as some possible new recruits Dumbledore thought might be useful. One of those such recruits was a young witch doing freelance Potion and Healing work for St. Mungo’s Hospital for Maladies and Injuries named Chiara Lobosca.
The name wasn’t unfamiliar at all to Lupin. He’d met Chiara while she was still a student at Hogwarts, and they’d remained very close throughout the years, exchanging letters and even occasionally meeting over drinks at the Three Broomsticks, when Lupin could afford it. Chiara was also a werewolf, and upon learning that Lupin shared her condition, but couldn’t get access to Wolfsbane Potion himself, she selflessly gave him some of her own doses, over the span of a few months. Of course when Lupin learned she didn’t have any spares, he refused to take any more of them, but Chiara stubbornly persisted in keeping contact, even when Lupin tried to distance himself, and before long, Lupin had to admit that he had come to see her as something between daughter and younger sister. Once Chiara graduated Hogwarts, she had likewise struggled to find work thanks to the stigma against outed werewolves. Fortunately Chiara had some very loyal friends, and the ones who worked at St. Mungo’s ensured that she had low-paying, but stable enough employment for the magical ward, mixing complex potions from home. This also gave her access to the ingredients needed to brew Wolfsbane Potion herself from time to time, not just for herself, but sometimes even for others, when she had enough in stock. At just 22 years old, she’d managed a level of work stability Lupin could only dream of, even while thirteen years her senior, thanks to her talent as a Healer. It was frankly little wonder that Dumbledore was so interested in having her as part of the Order of the Phoenix now.
And yet, despite himself, Lupin dreaded the meeting. As much as he would’ve normally loved to see Chiara, asking her to put her life on the line -- to fight Voldemort -- however important the cause was, Lupin knew it was a conversation he was ill-equipped to have.
Sensing Lupin’s uncertainty, Sirius coaxed his friend into letting him be there at their meeting in dog form, to show moral support.
“Hey, Dumbledore told me to stay low with you, didn’t he? Or would you and he rather I find some trouble elsewhere?” Sirius had said with a grin.
He then gave Lupin a light, amiable punch to the shoulder.
“Come on...cute animals always help break the ice. And I know for a fact that I can be pretty damn cute. I’m sure she’ll love me.”
Lupin kind of wanted Sirius to be hysterically wrong, just to stick it to him and his ridiculous levels of arrogance...but sure enough, as soon as Chiara arrived at Lupin’s flat and Sirius bounded up to her with a wagging tail and an excited bark, Chiara pretty instantly melted.
“Aww...hello there,” she fawned over the big, shaggy dog softly.
She brought a hand up for him to sniff it. Sirius immediately moved right past it and leapt up onto his back legs so he could rest his front paws on her shoulders and lick her face.
“Hahaha -- hey, stop! Hee hee -- that tickles!”
Chiara was soon left choking back giggles. Sirius jumped down and shot a rather triumphant “See? Told ya she’d love me!” look over his shoulder at Lupin, who shot him a rather dry look in return as he crossed his arms.
“When did you get a dog, Lupin?” Chiara asked him, wiping the slobber off her cheek with a bright white smile.
“A few days ago -- though I think it’ll just be temporary, until I can find him a more stable home,” said Lupin.
Chiara looked a bit disappointed as she scratched under Sirius’s ears. “Oh, how I wish I could take him...but Johnny Rotten’s never much liked dogs. And my apartment only accepts small pets...”
Sirius despite himself was very happy by the scratches -- his dog form did tend to get itchy, likely because of all the shaggy fur.
“It’s all right,” said Lupin. “I’m sure with how friendly he is, old Snuffles will find a nice enough home.”
His lips curled up in a wry smile, and he could see Sirius trying hard to bite one back of his own too. Calling Sirius “Snuffles” was a joke James had been fond of, when he was alive -- James had always had a bad track record of naming his pets ridiculous things, so Sirius hadn’t trusted him with coming up with something cool, for their Marauder nicknames. “Moony” hadn’t been too bad, but “Snuffles” had left Lupin and Wormtail in hysterics, at the time. It was frankly a relief that Lily had been the one to come up with their son’s name -- Harry could’ve very well been named something like “Fleamont” or “Dillard,” if James had been allowed to run wild.
“Can I get you some coffee?” Lupin asked Chiara. “I’d offer tea, but I’m afraid all I’ve been able to afford lately is Lipton, and I wouldn’t subject a guest to that...”
“Coffee would be lovely,” said Chiara.
And so Lupin brewed up a pot of Maxwell for Chiara and himself to share. The mugs he used were second-hand and chipped, and Lupin apologized for that, but Chiara shrugged it off.
“The coffee will taste just the same, regardless,” she’d said reassuringly.
Sirius gave a loud sneeze. Lupin could practically hear him saying something snarky like, “Cheap but serviceable, then?” and he bit back a smile.
Once the coffee was done, the two sat down in the living area of Lupin’s dinky little apartment. Sirius pretty promptly jumped up onto the couch next to Chiara, even as Lupin scowled at him.
“Well, there goes the idea of keeping one piece of furniture from getting covered in dog fur,” he sighed.
Sirius looked rather smug as he plopped himself down beside Chiara, his large back paw dangling off the edge of the couch. Chiara brought a hand along the dog’s back, ruffling up the fur beside his neck.
“It’s been a while since you’ve invited me over to your place, Lupin,” Chiara commented. She eyed Lupin curiously.
Lupin found his eyes drifting up toward the paint peeling from the wall rather than at her.
“Hmm, yes, well...I was hoping we could speak privately.”
“That’s what you said in your letter,” said Chiara, as her fingers brushed against the rim of her cup idly. “Since you wouldn’t go into any more details, I can only guess it’s about something important.”
Lupin looked at Chiara, his expression becoming more somber. He took a sip of coffee, considering his next words very carefully.
“...I...suppose you heard about what happened during the Triwizard Tournament,” he said bracingly.
Chiara’s face grew very sad. She bowed her head, her short white hair falling into her eyes.
“What...happened to Cedric, you mean,” she said very lowly.
Lupin was faintly startled. The tone of her voice...it sounded like someone...grieving.
“...You knew Cedric,” he realized in dismay.
Chiara nodded without raising her head.
“He...was part of the Circle of Khanna,” she murmured. “Back in the old days.”
Sirius didn’t know what Chiara was talking about, but Lupin did.
“The group Carewyn formed to deal with the Cursed Vaults?”
Chiara nodded again. “Carewyn, Bill, Charlie, Ben, and Merula -- they founded it. Though Carewyn was de facto leader -- she was the one we all rallied behind...”
Her blue eyes were misty with memories.
“Cedric and the Weasley twins were our youngest members. Carewyn didn’t want them involved, at the start -- she thought they were way too young to make themselves enemies of a magical criminal organization like R. But really, Carewyn had been targeted by them herself, when she was even younger. And Fred and George were Bill and Charlie’s brothers, so they flat-out refused not to help...and they and Cedric looked up to Carewyn so much. When Rowan died...well, they wanted to support her, however they could.”
She smiled sadly.
“Cedric, in particular. He was only a first year at the time, but he was always brilliant. He was a great flier and a good enough duelist to stand toe-to-toe with students three years ahead of him. And more than anything...he just hated the idea of Rowan not getting justice, after what Rakepick did...hated the thought that Carewyn would have to live knowing her best friend’s killer walked free. So he asked Ben to help him practice his dueling skills, so that if he ended up colliding with Rakepick, he could stop her from hurting anyone else. After that, Ben convinced Carewyn to tell Cedric about the Circle of Khanna, and Cedric immediately asked to join. ‘You’ve always protected everyone else,’ I remember he’d said. ‘Now you won’t have to do it alone...anymore...’”
Chiara’s voice trailed off into nothingness as she closed her eyes. Lupin reached out to rest his hand on her shoulder.
“I’m sorry,” he murmured. “I didn’t know you and he had that history.”
If he had, he probably would’ve come at this whole thing far more gently.
Chiara shut her eyes tighter to try to hold in the tears that had started to form.
“It’s okay. It’s just...he was only twelve, when he joined the Circle of Khanna. Twelve. At the time, he’d felt so young, and we hated getting him involved in everything, but...but we were only sixteen and seventeen ourselves. The same age Cedric is. Was.”
She swallowed. It seemed hard to do.
“...That’s too young,” she said, her voice so soft it was like a shadow of her normal voice. “He was too young. We were too young, to be in that kind of danger -- to be afraid of dying, of never seeing your friends and family again. No one should have to be afraid of that, at seventeen.”
Lupin regarded Chiara sadly as he gave her shoulder a light squeeze.
“You’re right,” he agreed quietly. “But sometimes...even despite all our best efforts...people have to face these sorts of battles at way too young an age.”
Harry’s face swam over his mind, as did the memory of helping him with his dementor boggart two years ago.
“I heard my dad. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard him. He tried to take on Voldemort himself, to give my mum time to run for it...”
Lupin felt his heart clenching at the memory of Harry’s pale, tear-stained face -- the thought of his best friend, throwing himself between Voldemort and his family...
James was only twenty-one, at that time. All of them had been -- Lily, Wormtail, Sirius...Lupin himself. They all had only been twenty-one, when their lives were destroyed forever.
Lupin caught Sirius’s eye -- the dog was surveying him carefully, clearly sensing his disquieted mood. Sirius then glanced from Lupin to Chiara and back significantly.
“Don’t forget what we’re here for,” Lupin could sense him saying.
The ex-professor paused, his tawny-brown eyes absently resting on his hand on Chiara’s shoulder, before speaking again.
“...What...did you learn, about what happened to Cedric?”
Chiara looked up at Lupin in surprise. Then her big blue eyes seemed to become a little smaller, becoming almost guarded.
“...Well, the Ministry says it was an accident,” she said slowly.
“But you don’t believe that,” surmised Lupin.
Chiara’s eyes hardened a bit. “...No. I don’t.”
She drank from her mug, before putting it down on the side table between the couch and the armchair.
“Beatrice Haywood was in the stands, during the Third Task,” she admitted. “She wrote to Carewyn about it afterwards...”
“You’ve spoken to Carewyn?” asked Lupin.
He knew Carewyn Cromwell was someone else Dumbledore had wanted to recruit to the Order, though he wasn’t sure how well such an endeavor would go. Carewyn was a Slytherin alumnus, and although she reminded Lupin a bit of James when it came to her honor, talent, intelligence, and loyalty to her friends, she was still like Snape in the sense that she didn’t trust easily. Lupin had heard in passing from both Chiara and the Hogwarts staff how little Carewyn trusted or liked the Headmaster, however fondly Dumbledore looked upon Carewyn himself.
“I do not think Carewyn has ever quite forgiven me for expelling her brother, even after everything,” Dumbledore had told Lupin once. “And truthfully, I cannot blame her for that. It’s a choice I myself hated making at the time and have hated myself for making every day since.”
“Yes,” said Chiara. She paused before saying solemnly, “What happened to Cedric...you know it wasn’t an accident...don’t you?”
It was clear to Lupin that Chiara was trying to gage how much he knew, before she said anything else -- so he addressed the matter honestly.
“You’re right,” Lupin said solemnly.
He drank some more from his mug and then took a deep breath.
“Cedric didn’t die by accident. ...He was murdered. By Lord Voldemort.”
Chiara flinched at the name, her eyes closing again -- and yet her pale face seemed oddly devoid of surprise.
“I knew it,” she said very quietly.
Lupin tilted his head slightly to look at her better.
“Even before Carewyn told me about Beatrice’s letter,” Chiara clarified. “As soon as I learned Cedric had died, I just knew. I knew it couldn’t have been just an accident. Cedric was always too capable for that...”
Her voice was faintly strained -- clearly knowing the reason for her old friend’s death was vindicating, but still incredibly painful.
Sirius, in a display of sympathy, actually rested his furry head in Chiara’s lap, his gray eyes watching her face sadly.
“I am truly sorry, Chiara,” Lupin said softly.
Chiara slowly opened her eyes. She brought a hand up to ruffle the fur beside Sirius’s ears.
“Carewyn said that Professor McGonagall visited her flat that same day and confirmed it,” she said, her voice sounding a bit stronger again. “She wouldn’t go into much detail about the meeting, but even if she put on a brave face like she always does, I know she’s worried. She even said her brother was coming back to London...Jacob never stays in one place, so for him to come home...”
“...It has to mean he’s concerned too,” Lupin finished.
Chiara looked up at Lupin with something a bit grimmer in her eyes.
“Like you are?” she asked.
Lupin blinked.
“You wouldn’t have brought any of this up if you weren’t,” Chiara pointed out. “And well, as much as you don’t talk about your past...I know you really respect Professor Dumbledore, the way I do. Probably because I’m sure he helped you go to school, like he did me.”
Lupin’s lips curled up in a slightly sad smile. “...He did.”
Chiara was always very perceptive, even when she was young. It was something Lupin had always admired about her.
Chiara smiled too, but it vanished quickly. “So I reckon...if Professor Dumbledore thinks You-Know-Who is back, he probably wants to do something about it. Especially since the Ministry isn’t doing anything.”
“Yes,” said Lupin. Not having to explain this made him feel a bit more secure in saying, “He’s hoping to assemble an army, to help in the fight against him...”
“And he wants you to join him?” Chiara asked. The question cut him off slightly -- it was clear she wasn’t surprised by the news, but there was also noted concern in her tone.
Lupin hesitated. He glanced down at Sirius, who gave him an encouraging look.
“...Me...as well as you,” he admitted at last.
Chiara blinked.
“You’ve always been a talented Healer, Chiara -- the most talented in your field, at least among your peers. Professor Dumbledore knows your skills would be invaluable, in the fight to come. And...well, with your connections among our kind, through your activism...it was thought that you might be able to reach out to others who might sympathize with our position...”
“Recruit other werewolves, you mean?” Chiara asked, her eyes narrowing ever-so-slightly.
Lupin suddenly felt very uncomfortable. He held his coffee mug in both hands, just over his lap.
“...Yes.”
Chiara frowned deeply.
“Lupin...you know most werewolves have to hide their condition, just to try to get a job and support themselves. You know how dangerous that is -- joining a secret army that opposes the Ministry on top of that, that’d be far too risky...”
“Perhaps, but it’s far more of a risk, to do nothing in the face of Voldemort’s return,” Lupin said gravely.
“Something must be done, you’re right,” said Chiara, trying to bite back another flinch. “But it’s not that simple, Lupin. A lot of werewolves have a lot more to lose than we do.”
“That’s all the more reason to fight to protect those things,” Lupin said, a very slight edge coming to his voice despite himself. “Voldemort threatens everything we’ve built and everything we hold dear -- our lives and our livelihood. We know Voldemort will undoubtedly try to recruit werewolves like Fenrir Greyback in his fight, so any envoy we can make toward werewolves on behalf of our side can deter one less ally he could tempt to serve him. We must convince our kind that there is still hope for a better future in the World they live in, or they will turn to someone who promises one to them -- even someone like Voldemort.”
“I know that -- and you are right, Lupin, you are,” said Chiara, her face hardening. “But don’t you see? You’re looking at things just on the large scale, right now. You’re looking at how we’re going to stop You-Know-Who, but you’re not thinking about how individual people are going to make it to the other side of that fight, in the first place. A lot of werewolves are unemployed like you, yes, but others...they’re working for the Ministry, right now. Them working against the Ministry would constitute treason. They could be subjected to time in Azkaban, if they joined a group like this and got caught. Not to mention many of them are parents, with families who rely on them and their salaries. If they lose their jobs, how will they earn enough to take care of them? Protecting the ones we love from You-Know-Who is important...but what would any of them be protecting, if they lose their homes and go hungry?”
Lupin’s lips came together solemnly.
“...We’ll all have to come together, to face what lies ahead,” he said softly. “If we don’t fight together, we’re certain to fall separately.”
“And that’s all the more reason why it’s good that you’re fighting, Lupin,” Chiara said earnestly. “We need people like you who are brave enough, to risk yourself and your future to do what’s right. But in the end...that’s still your choice, Lupin. That’s what makes it noble. If you put yourself on the line simply because you felt compelled to do it...well, then it wouldn’t be half as noble. It would be done out of duress -- obligation. And frankly...given that the Ministry in this very moment has people like Dolores Umbridge in their ranks...I don’t know if I could fault anyone who’d have trouble putting themselves on the line, to protect a Ministry who won’t even protect them.”
“Yet they’ll work for that Ministry and stay silent to keep that position with them,” Lupin said grimly.
Chiara fixed Lupin with a very reproachful look. “Doing a desk job and being a soldier are two very different things, Lupin, and you know it.”
Lupin looked down into the coffee mug in his hands. After a moment, he felt Chiara bring a hand down on his forearm.
“Lupin,” she said gently, “I want to help you, and you know I will. You know I’d always Heal you or anyone else who needed my help. Especially if they were your friends. But...”
She sighed.
“...It bothers me...that you’re so quick to judge those who won’t fight with Professor Dumbledore against Fudge. They’re not cruel or selfish people, a lot of them. They have people they love, just as you do, and they want to protect them however they think they can. And with the Ministry assuring them nothing’s wrong, it’s not hard to understand why. We’re supposed to trust the Ministry. We’re supposed to have faith in the people we’ve trusted to lead us. You trust Professor Dumbledore to tell you the truth, don’t you?”
Lupin’s tawny-brown eyes grew a little smaller. “Of course I do.”
“Well, others trust Fudge,” Chiara said firmly. “Maybe that’s wrong of them, and maybe some of them might be in denial about how bad things are...but they still trust him. Even though both he and Professor Dumbledore have made plenty of mistakes, and undoubtedly will make plenty more. And well...you said it yourself. Professor Dumbledore is forming an army, to face You-Know-Who. Not everyone is meant to be a soldier. That doesn’t make them any less of a person.”
“I know that,” said Lupin. “And Professor Dumbledore doesn’t want you as a soldier, Chiara -- there are plenty of other ways you can help our cause...”
“So both you and Dumbledore would agree that I wouldn’t be able to fight the Death Eaters?” Chiara cut him off.
The question was pointed. It made Lupin hesitate.
“That’s...not exactly what I meant,” he said awkwardly.
“But do you think I could?” Chiara challenged him. “Do you think, if I fought You-Know-Who or one of his supporters, that I could beat them? Do you think I’d survive in a fight against them?”
Lupin swallowed.
Truthfully, the answer was no. He knew Chiara had never been inclined to fight. She wasn’t particularly talented at Wizard Dueling, nor was she particularly aggressive. She hated causing other people pain. And Voldemort was not just some random Dark wizard -- he was the strongest Dark wizard in the world. No one but Dumbledore even came close to him, magically speaking. But at the same time, Lupin didn’t like this line of questioning and he didn’t know why Chiara was asking him this in the first place, so it made him hesitate, in answering.
“I think you could do anything you set your mind to,” he said at last, very lowly.
Chiara offered Lupin a gentle smile.
“Thank you,” she said kindly. “But that’s just the problem. I wouldn’t be able to hurt anybody. I wouldn’t be able to kill anybody else -- not even to protect the people I love. I know you could. I know Bill could. I know Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape could. But not me.”
Her expression softened as her gaze fell down to Sirius still resting his head in her lap.
“I think I surprised a lot of people when I joined the Circle of Khanna, back in the old days,” she confessed. “I’ve never been like Ben or Merula, or even Cedric or Beatrice. I’m afraid of hurting people. I couldn’t imagine hurting anybody else, even if I was in danger -- even if someone I loved was in danger. I don’t know what I’d do, aside from casting Shield Charms...but actually attacking somebody, to hurt them...that’s something I would never want to do.”
She smiled.
“...But I trusted Carewyn. I still trust Carewyn, with everything in me. I believe in her, even though she’s never truly believed in herself the same way...even though she never asked me to put myself on the line, for her or otherwise...even though she never asked me to have that much faith in her in the first place. Maybe even because she never asked me to.”
Her eyes sparkled fondly. Her expression then turned much more solemn as she looked up at Lupin again.
“I respect Professor Dumbledore a lot,” she said seriously, “but I know I’m not like him. I’m not nearly so wise nor so talented, nor am I likely half as brave...and I don’t see the world quite so much like a chess game, focusing on large-scale moves without thinking about the pieces being shattered on the board. I’m much more like Carewyn -- someone who’ll sacrifice for others, but never ask for anyone else to do the same. And...”
She adjusted her hand on Lupin’s forearm again.
“...I’m like you -- someone who will fight for what’s right, no matter what the risk might be for yourself.”
Lupin looked up from his coffee at last. Chiara was smiling gently again. After a moment, he smiled in return.
“...So you’ll help us?” he asked her.
“Mm,” Chiara said with a nod. “I won’t recruit anyone, and I have no intention of fighting or hurting anybody...but if you or Professor Dumbledore ever need a Healer, then I’m here.”
“I must wonder if Carewyn responded the same way,” Lupin said airily.
He was smiling more fully, though, as he finished off his coffee and put his cup down on the side table. Sirius had relaxed noticeably -- his tail was wagging again. Chiara took her wand out of her dark purple coat.
“Would you like me to send that to the sink?” she asked politely.
“Thank you.”
She waved her wand, levitating both her mug and Lupin’s over to the sink a yard or so away.
“Lupin,” said Chiara slowly, “may I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“Are you upset? That I wasn’t more excited to join.”
Lupin’s expression softened.
“No,” he said. “Truthfully...I felt a bit like you did about Cedric.”
Chiara blinked.
“‘He was too young,’ you said. ‘We were too young.’ Well, really, you still are. And so were we, when we faced Voldemort, during the First Wizarding War.”
Lupin’s eyes darkened.
“...I was only a year younger than you are now...when I lost one of the closest friends I’d ever known.”
“Prongs,” Chiara recalled. Lupin nodded.
“He and his wife had just had a baby,” said Lupin. “Their deaths left that boy an orphan...sent him to live with his Muggle relatives, away from any hint of who he was or how amazing his parents were, as people.”
He sighed.
“It’s...one of the greatest regrets I have,” he said softly, “that I wasn’t able to watch him grow up, even just from afar. It would’ve been one thing to be around him as a child with his parents around...but Prongs would’ve fought to make sure I was in his life, regardless of what anyone else said. Even me,” he added, as his lips curled up in a sad smile.
Sirius reached across Chiara’s lap to place a paw on Lupin’s knee. Lupin looked up, to see Sirius fixing him with a rather sharp look.
“It’s not your fault, Remus,” he seemed to say.
Chiara seemed to think so too.
“I’m sure your son’s friend would’ve loved having you in his life too,” she said gently. “I’m glad I have. Had you in my life, I mean.”
Lupin smiled, clearly touched.
“...As have I.”
Chiara slid herself out from under Sirius so she could get up and give Lupin a hug. The affectionate gesture faintly startled Lupin, but he brought a hand up to pat Chiara lightly on the back. The way James used to do, whenever he met his friends...
“We’ve gone through more than most families do, I reckon. S’pose that makes us like brothers now, doesn’t it?”
"Lupin?”
“Yes?”
“I have a friend you should talk to, in the Auror Department. I think she might be what you and Professor Dumbledore are really looking for.”

i had a thought.
i think it's interesting that harry in the beginning of the half blood prince makes the decision to hate snape more than ever because of his grief for sirius, and his reasoning behind is his belief that snape probably doesn't care that sirius is dead.
snape's response to dumbledore's remark about how many people he has watched die after finding out harry was a horcrux is 'lately only those i couldn't save.'
i think that line is directly referencing sirius because at this point in the series after cedric diggory, sirius is the most significant casualty, which is also a blow to the order. we all know snape did not like sirius, but we do know he actively tried to help him in ootp, dumbledore tells harry this and we know despite harry's intial thoughts, sirius didn't die because of a comment from snape, but because kreacher (and to be honest, dumbledore's decision to keep him cooped up inside grimmauld place).
one of the fandom's biggest gripes with snape is whether or not he's a good person and there's a plethora of evidence to say he isn't. but there's also a lot to say he is. and i think we see this transition into a good or at least, better person in the goblet of fire when he does not run away at the prospect of being a double agent and working for the greater good. in ootp, when he is chastising sirius, it's like a really stern telling off, like when he tells him that lucious malfoy saw him on platform 9 3/4. snape is actively trying to save people, even if he's still being his mean self. he agrees to occlumency, which only stops after the person he's trying to protect takes advantage. he continues potions lessons, teaching the students potions like the strengthening solution, a lesson that umbridge thinks is inappropriate because of course she doesn't want the students learning anything that could equip them against the ministry.
and in the half blood prince, he has taken on more than ever; the unbreakable vow as well as the responsibility to kill dumbledore on the dark lord's orders when draco inevitably fails, as well as actually arranging to kill dumbledore later in the book on dumbledore's orders. moreso, we see him aiding dumbledore when he returns injured, removing the curse from katie bell, saving draco from sectumsempra and of course ron as the half blood prince. and he's teaching defence against the dark arts. he also unknowingly, acting as a companion and tutor to harry through the half blood prince.
not to mention the responsibility of having to face hogwarts as headmaster, hated by everyone for being a traitor, and not just murdering a beloved headmaster, powerful wizard but also vulnerable old man, as well as being a death eater full time, alone.
even his rude comment to tonks about her patronus is backhanded advice. he knows her magic used to be stronger. even harry thinks the patronus looks off. and when harry talks to remus about snape, this idea of care is brought up again, when lupin talks about how perfectly snape brewed wolfsbane for him in the poa, and how if he really wanted to mess with him, he would have sabotages it, but he didn't. wolfbane doesn't just make transformation less painful, but it lets you keep your mind. snape is always helping.
so i just think it's interesting how harry thinks snape doesn't seem to care. when he does.
a lot.

What if...
Peter Pettigrew had been caught at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban? I imagine that The Ministry would still not believe Sirius' innocence and they would make a proper trial. Dumbledore would've helped Sirius out of guilt, because he didn't do it before. They would win the trial of course because of a thing called Varitaserum. And Remus and Sirius would talk with Peter before he is taken to Azkaban and get the real reason why he betrayed them. They would've found out that the Peter that they used to know is no longer there.
Now, even thought Sirius is a free man, many wizards still don't trust him and many don't believe his innocence thinking he got out because of Dumbledore. But Sirius is free and tries to relive his life as before. This trial would happen while Harry is at the Quidditch Cup with the Weasleys. He would be worried but relieved when he finds out that Sirius was set free.
Remus and Sirius talk with Harry through letters about the posibility of him living with them. Harry of course is thrilled with the idea. But Remus and Sirius tell him that he has to wait and spend the rest of the summer at The Burrow, because they had no jobs, no house, no money to substain him.
During the events of Goblet of fire, Harry exchanges letters not only Sirius but also Remus, getting to know more about them, asking them for advice, and telling him about his worries throught The Triwizard Tournament. Harry becomes really attached to both Sirius and Remus. They are the only connection he has with his parents. I repeat WITH BOTH, not only Sirius. Sirius and Remus visit Harry secretly during this year to support him and try to find out who put the name in the goblet.
And Peter is not the one that helps Voldemort get his body back. That's Barty Crouch Jr. Because it doesn't make sense to me why Peter didn't just run away as far as he could and hide, instead he went to find Voldemort when he didn't even follow Voldy because he wanted, but because he was scared.
After the events of Goblet of Fire, Cedric's death and Voldemort returning, Harry needs his uncles more than ever. They start living together at Grimmauld Place since they don't have other place and since it would be useful for the Order (Dumbledore's orders). But at least Harry doesn't have to back to The Dursleys.
Remus, Sirius and Harry decide to go camping or to the beach for the summer to relax a bit and bond for real this time. Harry takes this opportunity to ask them all the questions he has about his parents and they answer of course. Harry gets to know about Sirius' family, and he gets an inside on how really is a life for a werewolf without the Wolfsbane Potion, and how much Sirius takes care of him. They assure Harry that this is what James did for Remus as well, and Harry feels proud of his dad.
But midsummer, Harry and his uncles have a discussion. Even though they were transparent about their past, they weren't telling him what was going on now. Members of the Order came now and then but Harry didn't understand why. And he was writing to Ron and Hermione and none of them answered.
So Harry gets angry out of the house and walks along, until he bumps into his cousin Dudley and his friends. They were drinking and Harry had never drunk before. But he felt like an adult not a child anymore and he wanted to proof that, he ends up getting drunk for the first time with his cousin Dudley. Dudley in his drunk state, confesses that he misses Harry and that he wasn't very good to him. And Harry and Dudley drunk bonded for a bit until they got attacked by Dememtors.
Harry gets a trial for using a Patronus Charm in the presence of a muggle, like in the original timeline. But this time not only Mr. Weasley goes with him, but Remus and Sirius go as well. Some wizards use the opportunity to say that living with a "criminal" and a "beast" was corrupting Harry, but Dumbledore intervienes again and he is freed.
Sirius and Remus apologize to Harry and the rest of The Order tells him a bit of what's going on, even if Molly insisted he was "just a boy" like in the original books.
When Harry gets to Hogwarts and Umbrigde teaches there, Harry hates her even more. Because he knows she approved the law agaisnt werewolves rights. Harry has become so close to Uncle Remus (now he calls him that) over the summer so he wants to protect Remus like his father did. And Harry gets into much worse trouble with Umbridge because he relates with a "criminal and a beast".
The events of The Order of Phoenix are practically the same, except that Snape's Worse Memory doesn't affect Harry too much, because Sirius and Remus explain what happened that day and how James was a good man. Also they explain how his parents fell in love. So Harry doesn't doubt about that.
In the Battle of The Deparment of Mysteries, Sirius doesn't die. He gets seriously injured and gets in a state of comma. Harry and Remus are there for him, mostly everyday terrified of losing Sirius. "I can't lose him again, Harry" Remus confess with tears in his eyes. And Harry loves them even more. Sirius and Remus are family.
Sirius wakes up after weeks and he is perfectly fine. Remus and Sirius confess they are still pretty much in love with each other because before they were trying to be be friends and go slow.
Sirius and Remus are there for Harry for the rest of the books and participate in The Battle of Hogwarts. Both of them surviving. Sirius and Remus get married.
My point is that I get perhaps why Harry had to grow up with the Dursleys. Love blood protection and shit... But I think that when Remus and Sirius came into his life, they should've been Harry's parenting figures during the rest of the series. The reason why JKR killed Sirius is because she didn't want Harry having a supporting system when he had the possibility. And I don't understand why Harry always treated Remus like a professor when he had the possibility of being more, I mean he was right there!
So I am changing the canon :) And this works either if you ship Wolfstar or not. I mean Sirius and Remus can still be Harry's parents and Remus can still marry Tonks or whatever.
So yeah, that was pretty much it thank you.

All in the Family
Chapter 82: Rita Skeeter's Scope
Frank landed spread eagle and bounced several times uncomfortably, head spinning even worse. Forcing himself to pay attention, he looked quickly at all the accompanying crashes and groans to see everyone was still alright and no worse for wear, Alice had landed on a table so sturdy it hadn't moved an inch and was large enough she was several feet off the ground. So was Frank for that matter, this bed looked comfortable enough it would have fit all eight of them if they'd piled on. The more he looked in fact, everything in here was larger than average, including the giant boarhound having a lovely sniff around the older Black, who was grinning and patting the dog on the head. Then Frank grimaced in unease as it clicked where they were, and he hastily leaped from the bed and wondered if Hagrid was going to come stomping in the door any moment.
They hadn't come across any humans though, not even ghosts according to the Marauders Map, but Hagrid wasn't all the way human he now knew...neither was Lupin, he mentally corrected himself, and he was hopping along just fine.
He was having the roughest go of it though, he acknowledged quietly to himself, as the guy swayed on the spot and looked rather gray as he glanced at the window. Despite the clear sun still bright, he managed to look as if several weeks had passed since the last time they met, and maybe it had. How badly did the full moon affect him even when he wasn't in the body of a monster trying to eat them?
There weren't house-elves about though, but animals a plenty. What was the baseline for who stayed and went then? Intelligence? The missing House-elves from the kitchens all but confirmed this theory the more he thought about it, and despite his ah, brutal nature, Hagrid was most definitely of human intelligence. Then Frank winced at his own analytical thoughts, Hagrid had never been violent to a soul. Neither had Lupin really, before he'd nearly murdered them all. He was the most mild of the Marauders, everyone knew he just laughed along or stayed out of the way, but rarely participated. It was hard to keep what he'd read about beasts and actually knowing of the two in line, how misconstrued were texts then?
"Frank?" He looked up in surprise to see Alice holding his hand and Lily giving him an odd look, he must have been quite spaced out in his own thoughts.
"Sorry darling, what was that?" He asked politely, dragging his eyes away from the door Lupin was still leaning against, watching Potter read with only half his attention about whatever Rita Skeeter's Scope was going to be about, nobody had taken a liking to her articles, most of his attention was focused on messing with Hagrid's pink umbrella he was apparently trying to get to work. The older Black had curled up in Fang's bed with the massive dog, the two cuddling and looking sickeningly adorable for it. Pettigrew and the younger Black were still up at the table, scraping their nails against what were presumed to be the infamous rock cakes.
"I was asking if you were alright, you've got bits of blood all over you," she squeezed his hand and already had her wand drawn, but her face still looked rather pinched. He knew he'd upset her again by having watched Lupin so long, but he just didn't understand why he was the only one who still was. As far as he could tell, nobody had really looked twice at him since the incident had happened, why was he the only one who still seemed aware how dangerous Lupin could be? At least, that's what every book he'd ever read about them said, they were always considered apex predators whether it was a full moon or not.
Maybe just full grown werewolves though, he tried to more clearly define. Lupin was still a teenager, an adolescent. Maybe the older he got the worse it would get, but for now he was still holding it in? Maybe that's why he didn't participate in the Marauders' pranks, he wasn't trying to tempt himself?
They'd heard of him full grown though, he argued back with himself, still unhappy at this clear lack of answers. He'd been a teacher at school for a year with zero problems, and he'd definitely been an adult by then, this was nearly twenty years into their future after all. The night of the full moon he hadn't even murdered anyone while loose on the grounds. Perhaps that wolfsbane potion had some sort of latent effect on him? While he hadn't taken it that night, he had been taking it for months previously, perhaps that had just dulled his senses?
"Frank?" This time he did hear Alice call his name, the concern in her voice evident as she inspected his exposed skin as if looking for something else she could fix.
"What kind of plant did you land in? Can you describe it?" Lily asked clinically, but there was concern in her voice as well.
"I'm alright," he quickly reassured them both. "I'm just, ah, thinking."
Lily didn't look particularly convinced, but Alice gave a soft laugh and a kiss on the cheek, distracting him all the more. "It's alright Lily, he's been known to be in his head for ages." Her eyes were still trained on him though, it was clear she wanted to know what had so caught him up, but he pursed his lips and didn't answer, skin still twitching uncomfortably in the present company. She didn't press him on that, and he loved her all the more for it.
In a very obvious chance to change the subject, he asked them, "Any guesses about that egg then?"
"Maybe, it'll act like a key during the next task?" Alice offered. "It'll, unlock something he has to use for the next part."
"They said it was a clue in itself though," Lily corrected, her eyes sparkling with joy once more, she clearly loved a puzzle. "Also, I don't think it would make noise if that was the case. You might be on the right track though, Harry may have to use it somewhere in particular to make it work."
"You think if he opened it underground, like in the dungeons, it would make a different noise?" Frank nursed the idea.
"Something like that, yes," Lily grinned in delight. "Cedric's clue of taking a bath with it certainly indicates it needs some special circumstances to activate the clue," she finished intensely. Frank wondered, before all this started, how long she'd gone without talking to anyone to be doing so with such enthusiasm now as she propelled off the idea into other avenues, mentioned a few potions she wished she could dunk the egg in to see the properties it housed.
Alice found herself going cross-eyed in moments as the two started bouncing ideas off each other, quickly slipping into plants, potions, and even spells she hadn't heard of. Alice swung their hands together and patiently let herself be ignored in their fun. Frank only had two other dormmates, and while they didn't outright ignore him, she got the feeling they didn't go out of their way to include him either.
She instead began listening to the others chatting around her. Potter had not gotten Hagrid's wand/umbrella to work for him and was now sitting cross-legged on the floor, the book in his lap to more easily flip pages while his hands were tossing a golden apple about, she had no idea where he'd gotten that. Remus Lupin looked like he was falling asleep right against the door, even a new development such as Grubbly-Plank mysteriously taking over the class was only just keeping his eyes open it seemed.
Hagrid was indisposed? What could that mean, Alice wondered on as she looked around more critically in his home for clues, but she'd never been in here to know if anything was out of place. There was no fire going, despite the snow on the windowsill, but he could have been out on the grounds as a gamekeeper was want to do and it interfered with his class for once. His bed was rumpled, but that could have been from Frank landing on it. From what they'd heard of his cooking, the food could have been days old or brand new and they'd never tell the difference. She really hoped Harry went over there to check on him after class. After that, spat, he'd had with Maxime, the poor guy clearly needed a friend.
Potter winced in surprise when he did seem to get to the reason, Skeeter's Scoop indeed.
"-That awful woman," Lily cut off what she'd been saying to scowl at the book in Potter's lap rather than the boy for once, still an odd sight. "How dare she spread his secret like that, Harry's bad enough!"
"You don't think others have a right to know?" Frank asked her in surprise.
"Not in this way," she tossed her hair and didn't even seem to register Frank's odd tone. Alice did, and she frowned up at him once more. "That bloody woman will completely misconstrue Hagrid just like she has been Harry. Even if by some miracle she doesn't, what does it matter as he's no threat to anyone."
Frank was frowning in unease by the end, tugging on his robes and looking very deep in thought once more. Alice sighed as she realized what he'd been debating this time, and she still deeply disapproved of his very black and white stance on this subject. Didn't being around Remus Lupin and Hagrid the past six years prove there was more to this than the stories they'd heard growing up?
Potter was protesting this article as vehemently as Lily was, and Alice got a bit of personal amusement at least those two were agreeing on something with so much vigor neither even seemed to realize it. Their child followed in their footsteps, he seemed in no way ready to let the matter end there about Hagrid and she was not the only one smiling at the kids' reaction to this as well. Sadly, Hagrid was not forthcoming, and Alice did notice the heavy-looking lock on his door was indeed shut tight enough Hagrid himself would have a job of breaking it down.
The passage of time was weighing all of them down as the Hogsmeade trip came and went in a blast of a fashion. Between Ludo Bagman's bizarre interactions and Skeeter all but rubbing in what she'd done, they all would have taken a crack at getting a chance to talk to Hagrid same as Hermione by the end. Of course none of them were expecting Dumbledore of all people to be in here, but trying to picture him sitting at the table with Hagrid and chatting with his friend in this time of need was honestly such a pleasant thing to think about, they were almost smiling again.
A feeling that only increased as Dumbledore took charge of the situation, flat refusing Hagrid's resignation and not allowing him to hide away in shame for something he had no control over. Alice wished she could hug her headmaster right now! She eyed Frank obviously, who was still fidgeting with his robes, but nodding along nonetheless. At least his faith in Dumbledore seemed to have tipped the scales in some regards, and she'd take the slow progress that was.

hi i’m bothering you again bc i can: is crystal close with sirius like harry or is she closer to remus? how does she react when she discovers remus is a werewolf? does crystal have a favorite spell or potion? what career path would she follow after hogwarts? does harry push her away in ootp? do people have a saying for her like “you have your mother’s eyes?” like harry? is she with the trio in dh1? does she destroy any of the horcruxes?
you are bothering me a zero (0) sum amount 🖤
GOD I LOVE SIRIUS AND REMUS SO MUCH
So here’s the thing. Crystal does love Remus. But there’s 13 years of baggage behind that, because he chose not to be part of her life. It takes Crystal a lot of time to get past that, especially because she doesn’t find out he’s a werewolf until the end of her fifth year. That makes everything easier in a way, because she finally understands the deep-seated terror that Remus had that he would hurt her. Without three friends to keep him in line, or enough money to consistently brew the Wolfsbane Potion, he was really in no shape to be a father. So things get easier for them after that, but there’s still wounds that can’t be healed. He might even offer to take her from the orphanage, but she chooses to stay. She doesn’t want to be a burden on him, making him constantly worry, and they both know
With Sirius, things are easier, probably because he didn’t have that responsibility to take care of her. He’s like the fun uncle who can do no wrong. And there’s always the sense that if he could have stayed, he would have. He got a lot more time with Crystal than he did with Harry. There’s memories there, and he dotes on her. I wouldn’t say that it’s a closer relationship, but it’s definitely a less tangled one.
It was Inbox Hour, then Inbox Night, and now it’s Inbox Day
I imagine she’s gotten very good at the summoning spell very quickly. Even in their earlier years, Fred and George liked to steal her things and hide them around Gryffindor tower. She looked for things by hand for the first year, and by the end of her second she can summon her textbooks from the boys dormitory from the corridors. Not as much fun for Fred and George, but a lot more fun for Crystal now that she can prank them back.
When she’s younger, I think Crystal absolutely had aspirations of rising through the ranks. She wanted to make something of herself, so that she could live up to and compete with the legacy of her brother. But as more time passes, and as more trouble creeps up into her life, that competitive streak dies down, and she starts to see how tiring it is having to sacrifice every bit of yourself for a cause. She helps the twins open their shop, and a lot of things have to be filed in her name because she’s the only one who actually finished school. She’s the equivalent of a wizarding business major.
Order of the Phoenix is a tough year for both Crystal and Harry. Yes, Harry pushes her away because even though she’s his sister, she doesn’t go through the trauma that he does. He went through the tournament alone, watched Cedric die alone, faced Voldemort alone. So she can be there, and she can comfort him, but at the same time she can’t help any more than Ron or Hermione. At the same time, Crystal is dealing with the same outside pressure from the wizarding community as Harry, saying that she’s crazy and she’s ill and she’s attention seeking and delusional. It lands her once again in an in between spot where she doesn’t feel like she belongs anywhere. She’s really thankful to have Fred and George that year, and encourages the trio with Dumbledore’s Army so they can do something constructive.
I’m...still not sure about where I want her in DH. But I don’t think so. I think by that point she’s accepted that a lot of what Harry needs to do is something he feels he needs to do on his own. She’d give up her life for him in a heartbeat, but self-sacrificing Harry might just leave Bill and Fleur’s wedding without her. At that point, I think she keeps up the war effort in her own way, fighting and dueling with the Order of the Phoenix on the front lines while they buy Harry as much time as they can.
If I can’t resist, I might have her go back with Ron, when he returns to Harry and Hermione with the deluminator. She has to give Harry a piece of her mind at some point haha.
Crystal is the spitting image of James and people remind her constantly. But she loves it.
