#cc free decades cas inspiration

Before I get any further into the 1900's, let's take a quick moment to reflect back.
For anyone just joining us, I am currently playing through a cc free (ish) decades challenge. I'll post expanding on what the (ish) means at some point, but I'm doing this for a number of reasons, the big one is I want to know if you can do it. Can you dupe the vibes well enough to feel emersed during each decade? I've got all the packs. This is easily a thousand-dollar game I now have. Yes, I am ashamed saying that. But, with all this money spent, I should be able to make this work.
With the 1890 decade complete, I wanted to share how I dressed or wished I had dressed my sims during this decade. Posts like this, shout out to out to Ashubii, really helped me along the way- so I want to return the favor to the community.
To start: -I am using zero CC clothing, hair, accessories etc. -I do have some "body" cc (lashes, skin overlay, body blush) -I am not a CAS simmer, so I'm not revolutionary in my styling -Between the limitations of what is available in game and my basic knowledge of the decade, don't expect accuracy just inspiration -If you want to know what pack an item is from, please ask! I am very WCIF friendly
I think it's also a good callout that I played the 1890s very 'country' focused. The 1900s outfits I have planned, I think, could easily work for 1890s if you were starting in more of a 'city' so come back for that post if you need fancier inspiration!
Here we have our main man, Bobert Pancakes showing off his everyday, formal, athletic, sleep, party, and cold weather outfits. He was a farmer, so his outfits were simple, and repetitive. His swim wear was his sleepwear, minus the socks, and his hot weather was his athletic wear plus the bandana from his every day- so I just saved a little room and left those off.
Here's Eliza 'I don't have a favorite child' Pancakes rocking an extra outfit because you know she has to be showing off. I have her everyday, formal, athletic, sleep, party, hot weather, cold weather outfits. Eliza is pretty country, maybe a little more than she would have liked. So, her outfits are also simple, repetitive, but with an extra bow. Her swimwear was a dress from Eco Lifestyle- but she never swam so I'm leaving it out, though you can see mouse nose Nora wear it in some gameplay screenshots.
Speaking of Nora! I grabbed her to show off some teen outfits. Though, these are more outfits I wished I dressed her and Hazel in. I also grabbed Arthur, Herbert, and Walter to show off their actual outfits. I've got, for the boys, an everyday for Walter and Arthur and party for Herbert. Nora is styling everyday, hot weather, and party. I dressed the teens, mostly, like adults because teenagers weren't really a thing in 1890, so I imagine they are wearing a lot of hand-me-downs. What I like about the outfits above is that they blend in the 1890s with newer fashion I will be including in the 1900s, I wish I did more of that sooner. I imagined those pieces were the few new items Eliza made for them.
So! Here we have Thomas rocking everyday, formal, party, hot weather, and cold weather. Hazel is wearing everyday, sleep, and formal. Children are tough to dress. Or, rather, dressing Hazel and the gals in this age group was painful. Some of her outfits are so bad, I won't share them. If you wanted to get a little CC in your life, this would be a spot I'd consider adding to. I was feeling so limited because all the skirts are short or very themed to Island Living. Swatches also were very modern, so there just felt like a million restrictions. You can see in the rest of the outfits, I have a preferred color pallet, so Hazel stands out (to me) like a sore thumb in comparison.
I'm grouping infants and toddlers together and, for the first time, showing off Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Harold's children. This is where my lack of interest in CAS really stands out. I do actually think this age group has good options but... I don't careeeeee. Again, I'm not a CAS simmer and this is where it shows. Generally, my toddlers and infants aren't going to events or honestly even leave the house. They are also this ae for only a few days. So, I repeated these looks for almost every little one. This is also probably why I couldn't tell the Pancakes' kids apart until they hit childhood/teens.
I hope this was as fun to skim over as it was to compile! Again, super open to questions or honestly suggestions. I'm having so much fun with this challenge I'm already thinking about doing it again, so I'd love ideas for the next round!

Antiquated Brindleton
An 1890s Decades Challenge Save File
This save has been almost a year in the making, but it's finally here! It includes a completely rebuilt Brindleton Bay inspired by historic New England towns and set in the 1890s. This save uses a light amount of historical cc and most of the packs.
Download and details under the cut:
SAVE DETAILS:
Includes:
Eight new residential lots
Seven new community lots
Six new households
Builds and households are all located in Brindleton Bay. The world is intended to be historically accurate to about 1890, though some liberties for functionality have been taken.
Builds in other worlds have been deleted. The necessary buildings, like dorms, active career lots, and the high school, have all been left in place.
Townies have been evicted, but not deleted, as I prefer EA townies to fully randomized townies.
If you’d like more period appropriate townies to add, the lovely @jewishsimming has some great historical ones to download and @cowplant-snacks has an amazing tutorial on how to manage your townies with MCCC.
REQUIREMENTS: I have all the packs except Batuu and some of the kits. I didn’t limit myself when building. I don’t have everything listed out here, but I will be uploading all the lots and households to my gallery, so if you’d like to know specific pack usage you’ll be able to check there. If you load in and things are replaced or missing and you think it looks obvious feel free to message me, I’m always happy to try to help you find something else that fits! Sooo.. I may have a tiny bit of an obsession w the 60s, 70s & 80s, and therefore I've accumulated a lot of CAS custom content both made for and capable of working in that time-frame! Here is a (very non-finalized) master list of said CC. I will most likely edit this, or post a part two. (I am also 100% open to WCIFs regarding these decades, vague and specific!) Full list below the cut, but creators shown in the preview are @ridgeport @simduction @ice-creamforbreakfast @feralpoodles @hezzasims @simstrouble @joliebean @zombietrait @its-adrienpastel @deathpoke1qa, @leeleesims1
(an * denotes a TSR link)
1960s
Sets
@enriques4 & @serenity-cc's Back to the 60s set is a must have for bright 60s basics to mix and match
@sentate & @trillyke's 1990s-themed 2020 Collab has pieces that are perfect for mod fashions
From babydoll to boho, Sentate's April 2021 Collection has it all for late 1960s & early 1970s looks alike
For some gorgeous turn of the decade looks, be sure to nab @ice-creamforbreakfast's Date Night Collection
Clothing & Footwear
Create more early 1960s looks with @gilded-ghosts Earth Angel dress!
I love @ridgeport's Birdie skirt as a mod mini! It comes in tons of colors & excellent patterns
amythesailor's Twiggy dress is full of fun patterns and colorways!
If you need something bright, @deathpoke1qa's 60's dress and matching go-go boots are the way to go
Hair
@simduction's blog is full of big fun retro hairstyles, but their Nancy, Peggy, & Beecky hairs are some of my favorites of the bunch.
@daylifesims also has a ton of fun picks, Shades of Cool, Hammer Horror, Heavy Bangs, & their Daphne and Fred Hairs are best suited for 60s style
@joshseoh's Blaire hair is cute and curly for a peppy 60s chick!
@feralpoodles' Monique & Monica Hairs are sleek and modish, they're perfect on their own or with some accessory bangs
Lets talk beehives. @ravensim's Terri Hair is loose and wavy, ridgeport's Fleur Hair is stacked and layered. @candysims4 has two beautiful beehives, Follow Me & the long and sleek Bee Hair.
@glimersims' Sugar Hair is an adorable flippy half-updo
A more 50's style like @birksche's Higher Twist Hair is perfect for your older sims
And @okruee's Bordeaux Hair is a wonderfully messy bun
1970s
Sets
Lets start the decade off strong with Gilded-Ghosts & @surely-sims' Perfect Party Set, which includes some gorgeous Build/Buy items as well (and BB could and should be a masterlist of its own..)
@joliebean & @clumsyalienn's Slavic Allure set lends itself perfectly to hippie and prairie style looks in a gorgeous Eastern-European inspired package.
On the topic of hippie, clumsyalienn's Heatwave Pack is perfect for all your free-spirited Sims
And so is serentiy-cc's Bohemian Child collection- that fur coat is a must have
Now for something bold and fun, straight out of Sears, ice-creamforbreakfast's 70s-inspired November 2022 set
Clothing & Footwear
@glumbut has never let me down with their Sonny and Dahlia jeans, and their Aroa top is recent favorite of mine
I love using ridgeport's Phia Suit for some good late-70s professional girl vibes
Hair
I've got some more feralpoodles hair for you, her Diana Hair is perfect for all your flower children & the layered and windswept Lara & Farrah hairs are straight out of the late 70s
And of course more ice-creamforbreakfast, another Fawcett-inspired look with their Farrah Flip, and their Milla Afro is a must have, whether you make vintage sims or not.
@simstrouble's Mirela hair also lends itself to a more subdued 70s style
And if you're looking for a long shag, @kamiiri's got you covered with their Phoebe Hair
1980s
Sets
Joliebean's 5th Avenue Conversion is great for both 80s business & 80s-does-40s looks.
@zombietrait's 80s Goth Pack is perfect for, well, trad goth looks. It's a must.
@dogsill's Upside Down Pack is full of great basics and rockin hair.
A multiparter, @aniraklova's Wild and Stylish 80s sets are over-the-top in the best way possible. Make sure to check out all 3 parts!
Clothing & Footwear
Now, it wouldn't be the 80s without some Wall Street goodness, and @quiddity-jones' Double-Breasted Suit is perfectly patterned for all of your business needs.
Part 2 of @jius-sims' Retro Collection is sweet and classic, perfect for the 80s housewife, or your girl-next-door.
@cooper322's Blondie Jacket is just so splendidly rocker-chic.
More from joliebean, their Ultraviolet & Daytona dresses are wonderful for all sorts of patterned & neon looks
Hair
joliebean's Beatrix Hair is a fun cropped style, it works for all sorts of fem looks, but I especially love it combined with a classic powersuit
@goamazons' Gloria Hair* is equally classy, and even bigger
Now, it wouldn't be the 80s without curly (often permed) looks, so here's some, ranging in volume. Goamazons' Floris Hair*, simstrouble's Beatrice Hair, & @softerhaze's Rhiannon Hair are all long styles with cute curly bangs. simstrouble's Eddie Hair is similar, works for both frames, and rocks a shaggier mullet-style.
@candysims4-ccfinds' Bonnie Hair is a shorter curled look with plenty of volume
Kamiiri's got two hairstyles I *love* for this decade, the Simone Hair is a full, long, curly style, and the Celine Hair is shoulder length with beachy curls and just the right amount of volume.
Multiple-Decade
Sets
As hilarious as it is, ice-creamforbreakfasts' half of the My Wedding Trauma Set has some awesome pieces. The Kelly-Marie Hair works great for 80s looks, and the dresses involved are right out of the class of 1987's prom. It even has an Elvis-inspired jumpsuit. (Check out surley-sims' half for the matching sunglasses)
Clothing & Footwear
@melonsloth's Jolene Outfit is a wonderfully classic outwear piece
@casteru's Bodycon Wrap Dress is just that! It's simple and works great on 70s-80s ladies.
Jius-sims' Retro Collection has some great footwear as well, they're simple and classic enough for all sorts of decades looks
@hezzasims released some beautiful 50s-inspired pieces, though I think they work great in any decade!
Hair
daylifesims' Long Rose Petals hair is simple enough for any decade, though I particularly love it in the late 1970s & early 80s.
The same goes for simstrouble's Rhoda hair, it reminds me so much of my mom's when she was a teen in the 70s & 80s.

Tag Game for Historical Simblrs!
Thank you @antiquatedplumbobs and @sasaofastora for the tag!
1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?
Oh gosh... This is really going to take some thought. I have really enjoyed the 1890s because of the labor reform and industrial revolution aspects of the time, but there's also the 1920s and 1930s when there was a massive amount of science discovered and environmental damage that will affect future generations.
2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)
I really love @linzlu's retro sinks, but I also can't function w/o a lot of @gilded-ghosts's outfits.
3. Who is your favorite sim currently?
So it's actually little Gordon. His future is heavily inspired by my own interests and emotional events that shaped and altered me. I'm very excited to develop his story.
4. What is your favorite world?
I love all of them for different reasons, but Brindleton, Windenburg, and Granite Falls are probs my favorites.
5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?
I play the game to get to the good parts of the story I want to tell. Sometimes the game throws me for a loop though and I need to alter my story to fit the gameplay, but the story definitely drives a lot of how I play.
6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?
I do, but not cats. I like having dogs, but I a dog person IRL so its just a natural fit. I miss the dog from Gen 0 but it hasn't felt right in the story to have a dog again.
7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?
The weird outfits on the pets in Brindleton. I can't seem to find a mod or anything that will make pets not wear clothing.
8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)
... Probably the boots from Vampires or the lace-up boots that came with GTW.
9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?
I would like to see more free swim areas. The areas in Britechester and Sulani are cool, but Brindleton could use some free swim areas along the coast.
10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?
Obvs, Cottage Living, but I have to agree with Get Together or Vampires for their build mode items.
11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?
So many, but MCCC, Better UI, Better Exceptions, TOOL, BBB, Timeless, Home Regions, Language Barrier, and I know I'm forgetting some.
12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?
4-5 people. I hate when the dice dole out 5-6 children. I really dislike the new newborn phase and the toddler phase is something to just tolerate.
13. Do you use poses?
All. The. Time.
14. Do you use any overrides in your game?
I had a crib override at one point, but infants broke it.
15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?
I played OTG all through the 1850s to the 1880s. 1880s including plumbing being added. Electricity was added in 1890.
16. What lifespan do you play on?
I play on normal lifespan, but with the days in each stage altered slightly. In my game, 2.8 days equals 1 year; so some years are 3 days long and some are only 2. 28 days = 10 years
17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?
I have always loved history and learning about it. For about half a second during my junior year, I thought about becoming a history teacher until I remembered that I don't actually like interacting with most people. I have, thankfully, learned the skills to deal with people on a daily basis but some (most) days it's exhausting.
Thanks again for tagging me, this was fun! I’m going to tag @alainas-sims, @jenplayssims, @sims-through-the-decades, and @simadelics.

Tag Game for Historical Simblrs!
Thanks for the tag @antiquatedplumbobs!
1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?
The 50s/60s! I love music, cars, hairstyles and movie stars! In fact I can't wait to get to the two decades (if anything I will)
2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)
I sincerely love any cc case or BB that is from the previous decades or past centuries! And indeed, I take the opportunity to thank all the cc historical creators 😉.
3. Who is your favorite sim currently?
A female sim that I created but that I will insert in the story of Charles to give the "right pepper".
4. What is your favorite world?
Henford-on-Bagley & Tartosa.
5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?
The second, because having so many characters whose stories I like to tell, I prefer to create situations and plots that gradually intertwine with each other!
6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?
Of course YES!
7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?
Greg the werewolf appearing everywhere (with everything I checked the game options to stay in Moonwood Mill 😑 and some townies with indecipherable clothes 😂.
8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)
I have many that I like but my absolute favorite is the Gibson girl hairstyle found in the get to famous extension.
9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?
Since there is a shortage of thieves with home robberies, why not make a noire style stuff pack set in the 30s? For me a lover of detective stories and characters like Lupine 3rd or Diabolik it would be the best! Thieves could pull heists as an event, create a thieves' club, hone skills, and tie it all together with the get to work expansion (my imagination is going way beyond that).
10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?
Get together for some stuff cas and Windenburg, Cottage living for the gameplay with farm and flea animals, Cat & Dog for the animals (I love animals and for me they are also fundamental in the sims 4), Growing together for the babies and some stuff cas.
11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?
Re-read answer number 2.
12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?
I honestly don't have any ... But if for each generation there was an only child, the gameplay or the succession of decades would be easier (my opinion).
13. Do you use poses?
Yes, and I would love to learn how to create some of my own to share with other simblrs (historical and no historical).
14. Do you use any overrides in your game?
Yes, some... especially the medieval little book that replaces the phone when they independently control it 😂.
15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?
At the beginning of my decade challenge yes ... But now arrived in the 20s where by now the light and electricity was in almost all the houses no.
16. What lifespan do you play on?
None! I try to make lifespam as realistic as possible.
17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?
Many of the Historical simblrs who still continue to post the stories of their characters. But in particular I would like to thank @antiquatedplumbobs for lots- @aheathen-conceivably and @scythesms for the gameplay aka stories. @gilded-ghosts @linzlu @happylifesims @javitrulovesims for cc cas, @lilis-palace @pierisim an other cc creators for amazing furnitures.
I decided not to tag anyone, feel free to play this fun game! Happy simming everyone!

Historical Simblr Tag Game
I was tagged by @greengreyviolet and indirectly by @pixelnrd. Thank you for the tag!
I’ll tag @sims-through-the-decades and @nooodlenoot sorry if you’ve already been tagged and feel free to ignore!
Let’s jump right into it! I put it under the cut because I wrote so much oof.
1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?
I’ve really loved the 20s, probably cuz I really started being more story-focussed then and so got attached more to the characters. Plus I love the 20s aesthetic. I love my current gen already a lot too (30s) and I think I will always love whichever gen I’m playing at the time the most.
I’m most looking forward to the 60s because I already have a story planned out that randomly came to my head and now I can’t wait to make it happen. Also, I’m always a hoe for that 60s aesthetic.
2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)
That’s a hard one because of all the cc I use anyway. But I think I’ll go with the typewriters here and here because thanks to them I don’t need to add a basement computer to access the mccc menus... and there’s just so much stuff you kinda need computers for (jobs, aspirations, etc.), so it’s super helpful.
3. Who is your favorite sim currently?
Did you think I could only choose one?
As I said, I’m still very attached to the 20s gen. First off, Artemisia will always be one of my favourite sims ever. She’s just *chef’s kiss* even though she was just a spare’s child. Then, I thought about whose death notification I’d be most sad about and that’s gotta be Tilly because she’s just so babey and I love her so so much! And Edward is kinda like a problematic fave. He was very fun to play because he wasn’t a “good” person (at least at first) and had such chaotic energy, even just “offscreen” gameplay lol. Plus, he looks like an angry puppy, especially with his natural curly hair and I love that about him.
And when it comes to the 30s gen, I love this dumb trio so much. I already knew I was gonna love them as soon as I started planning them and their dynamic. I can’t wait to publish the rest of their story cuz I love these babies and their stories! so apparently i also love to suffer but shhhh
4. What is your favorite world?
Still Windenburg, maybe it’s because I’m German and it seems most “familiar” to me? Idk but I just love the whole place and it has many different areas.
5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?
I’m more story focussed now. Even when I focus on gameplay, I make up my stories about my sims, so that aspect is always in there somehow.
6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?
Well, Mistletoe the cat is the first pet I’ve had since I got C&D. I love her and I will definitely play with pets again, but I am always scared it will take too much space I could use for other sims.
7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?
Random modern things in the background. I could install a mod that declutters the world, but I have modern saves too and don’t wanna declutter them.
8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)
I love that there’s an antique stove in the game I guess? They really should add more random old items in the game like that. The antique fridge is awesome as well, but those goddamn ramen boxes,,,,,,,,,,
9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?
Although I’m done with that gen already, I’d really love a pack that’s 20s inspired or at least somewhere in that direction. Thinking something along the lines of that sims 3 store roaring heights thing.
But anyway..... locking a makeup look to be on all outfits??? Why is this not a thing yet??? The amount of time I would save if I didn’t have to redo everyone’s makeup all the time.
10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?
It would probably make sense to say Cottage Living, but my early generations have been so many years ago that I’ve never played with that pack in a historical context, only in a modern save of mine. So I don’t have that “value” of it personally.
Instead, it’s probably gonna be... Get Together maybe? Like I said, I love Windenburg and I think the aesthetic is (mostly) working, too. Plus, the club system is super helpful and it also has some historical objects and clothes thanks to that castle and the ghosts that come with it.
Get Together also has those Victorian and mid-century things which is helpful if you do the decades challenge, right? Vintage Glamour, too.
11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?
Is it basic to say MCCC? In the historical aspect mostly MC dresser because I can just add one or two historical outfits to random townies and just switch them when I need to.
12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?
I need at least three sims, or it gets too boring for me. Not that I get bored of the sims, I just need “more to do” or I get nervous idk. So, somewhere between three and six is best for me.
13. Do you use poses?
All the time lol. I need to sort out some old poses I don’t use anymore, but I’m too lazy.
14. Do you use any overrides in your game?
I have my default skin and eyes but I also have the invisible crib mod. Although I did start just aging babies up to toddlers immediately anyway. I also have a ping pong to tennis override but I’m not gonna use it until one or two gens into the future lol.
15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?
Nah, it wasn’t a thing yet when I would have used it. And even now, it’s just not “finished” enough for me and just pretending works better for me.
16. What lifespan do you play on?
I almost always play on normal. I think by decades nsb is on short? My disney challenge definitely is on short though.
17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?
I’ve always loved fashion history. So much that it was even my dream to study it, but the time I had to choose something to study coincided with my most insecure and depressed era, so I didn’t even dare apply. Now I study something that I can rather than want, but I digress...
I don’t remember how I found out about the decades challenge. It for sure wasn’t on tumblr since it wasn’t that big here then and I’m pretty sure the challenge was one of the reasons I even created this blog. But as soon as I did, I immediately knew it was perfect for me. It basically combines my favourite things into one. And I love doing research for it and stuff like that, it’s so much fun for me.
I’m glad there’s more historical content nowadays because that way I don’t get frustrated at necessary historical inaccuracies in my game as much anymore.

Hey, I am a huge fan of your CC but I wanted your opinion as a Sims fan. I'm currently torn between getting some expansion packs for TS3, however my partner is encouraging me to just switch to TS4 since it's newer/still being updated. I know you only do TS3 content but wanted your opinion on making the switch for sticking to what I got. My main concern is how well my computer can handle more TS3 expansion packs vs what's out for TS4. Thank you so much for the beautiful content you create!
Hi! Thanks so much for the message; I’m happy that you like my stuff! :)
I’m going to publish this, cuz it’s actually pretty important, as folks have asked my thoughts on switching over before:
IMHO: TS3
I’ve talked about lag and TS3 before. I’ve been playing TS3 nonstop since the basegame’s release day.To date, I’ve rarely ever had problems running the game, even on my 10 year old HP Vista laptop, that only had 4GB of RAM (I used FPS Limiter to bypass the Launcher and keep the game from crashing to desktop; worked like a charm! Good info here X X). Excluding Pets and Island Paradise, I had all of the other EPs installed on that PC with no problems.
My newer laptop’s a piece of crap Win10 Dell, but it has 8GB RAM & a i5 2.5/2.7 GHz processor, and I’ve been running ALL of the EPs on medium-high graphics settings with a EFFTON of CC just fine. :)
Note: I NEVER play in fullscreen mode.
TS3′s got way more content than TS4, but as long as your PC’s got the RAM and the processor speed, TS3 runs well. I noticed that it lags more the higher the settings are, so it depends on the graphics card you use, in that case – I heard weirdness about TS3 not recognizing certain graphics cards, but IDK – both of my laptops have integrated chipsets. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Maybe it’s different on desktops. :\
I’m unfortunately playing TS3 on 1.69 on the Dell, and I bloody hate being forced to use Origin and the Launcher to boot the game. But I keep Origin offline and idle in the tray the whole time – nyanyanya, EA! XPPPPPPPPPPPPP
IMHO: TS4 (Rant Alert – naturally)
As a simmer who’s deliberately stuck to TS3 (even after all these years that TS4′s been out), my opinion’s going to be biased.
I don’t see myself making the switch to TS4 any time soon, cuz I’m clearly not EA’s target demographic for that mess.
I love fanciful gameplay (understatement of the year). I’m not here for realism. Yes, TS3 had to wait 7 EPs for the Supernatural EP, but during the interim we had the Spellbook, Crystal Ball, Voodoo Doll and Cauldron at the Store; the Ghost Hunter in AMB and Magician in SHT; Unicorns as Pets, and the Genie & Vampire lifestates. That was 3 years into TS3′s run. Not to mention, IIRC, the same year we got Supernatural, we also got the Showtime EP, the Seasons EP, Lunar Lakes, Sunlit Tides, Lucky Palms AND Monte Vista (2012 was the effing year).
TS4′s 4 YEARS old, and I’m still waiting for the fantasy! Get Together, Get Famous…Get a better idea already, EA! DANG! >_sad, and Get to Work had no business being an EP; having Doctors and Cops should’ve been basegame, or a free patch like the Toddlers were – wtf with all this half-baked effery and generic packs?! Adding a first-person-mode so you don’t even get to see the sim you just spent 10 frikkin hours creating in CAS – frikkin inspired, EA. >_>
Wanting the new shiny is all well and good, but EA’s gonna have to pry my fully customizable open world game with transportation and CASt and World Editor and CAW/CAP and all its derivatives from my cold dead clutches, sorry. XD
So, yeah, I don’t really have anything positive to say about TS4. Maybe if they make a Supernatural/Makin Magic EP sometime before the next decade arrives, I might take a gander. But even then that won’t be enough for me to RETIRE my TS3 game by permanently switching over. Why would I? I’m not saying TS3’s better, cuz that’s relative and subjective, but it’s certainly bigger; there’s more to do and explore, (me? give up World Adventures, ITF, and Supernatural? HA!); and I don’t like the playdough-looking Lazy Town aesthetic.

Petersen Magazines Overflowed With L.A. Rodders, Racers & Customizers in 1961
Heaven. Granted, the City of Angels ain’t what it was at the turn of the 1960s. Bashing all things Cali is as fashionable today as moving west was six decades ago. Indeed, gearheads elsewhere can now make excellent arguments for automotive scenes wherever they happen to live. Truth be known, high-ranking Eastern and Midwestern executives employed by one of the investment groups that acquired the former Petersen Publishing Company argued that the whole shebang—including the millions of irreplaceable negatives and transparencies in the precious photography archive—rightly belonged on the Right Coast. Their first choice was Florida, insisting that Florida is the California of the 21st-century for all things automotive. They might’ve been right. They’re all gone now (whew, close call!).
While it’s a fact that bare-bones travel budgets usually kept Petersen’s skeleton crews close to home, staffers needn’t have ventured beyond L.A.’s vast city limits to fill every page of every 1961 HOT ROD, Car Craft, Rod & Custom, Motor Trend, Kart, and Motor Life with worthy editorial material. New trends ignited out west were hungrily awaited by millions of monthly readers across North America. Armchair sociologists will be forever debating causation for the hobby’s post-WWII convergence and explosion here. Two of the movement’s main influencers and beneficiaries offered very different reasons on the day that chief photographer Bob D’Olivo captured the mug shots accompanying this article. George Barris and Ed Roth didn’t agree on much else, either, beyond fiberglass sculpting being less expensive than full-custom metalwork; Petersen’s magazines and major car shows enabling eastern builders to close the styling gap with the west; and Los Angeles being the center of hot rodding’s universe.
Another believer was Tom Wolfe, a virtually unknown and entirely nonautomotive New York newspaper reporter whose assignment to cover a local rod-and-custom show inspired a story pitch to Esquire. The editors bit and flew him off to (where else?) SoCal, where HRM’s Tex Smith introduced local heroes and showed Tom around Burbank’s eye-opening Teen Fair. The resultant article, which Esquire titled, “There Goes (Varoom! Varoom!) That Kandy Kolored (Thphhhhhh!) Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (Rahghhhh!) Around the Bend (Brummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…),” led to a best-selling first book that brought widespread fame to the author and two interview subjects previously known only to magazine readers: Barris and Roth.
Nobody working here is old enough to have formed firsthand opinions about alleged regional bias by “those California magazine guys,” but the extent of the state’s influence is unmistakable throughout the thousands of images composed by staff photojournalists in 1961 and considered for HRD’s ongoing series. Skeptics from Someplace Else, USA, who never made the scene, are forgiven for continuing to profess that Southern California subjects, in particular, received vastly disproportionate barrels of ink simply because most magazines happened to be produced there.
“Those people have it exactly backwards,” suggests historian Greg Sharp, a native Angeleno old enough to know. “The magazines were here because the action was here, period. End of story!”
While other carmakers more or less observed the industrywide Automobile Manufacturers Association agreement to avoid sponsoring motorsports or promoting performance, Pontiac Motor Division gained a winning reputation and unprecedented market share by discreetly funneling parts, engineers, and street vehicles to a network of independent skunkworks. Leading the straight-line assault was Mickey Thompson, whose factory involvement is evident in the engines and Pontiac-powered Dragmaster rails crowding his Long Beach facility when HRM photographer Eric Rickman made one of his regular visits. “America’s Speed King” continued repaying his factory favors this season by using eight-, four-, and two-cylinder Pontiac powerplants exclusively to add 14 international and national records for the standing-start mile and kilometer to his unrivaled resume. (See Sept. 1961 HRM; Oct. 1961 HRM, MT, CC & ML; Mar. 2012 & Nov. 2016 HRD.)
Just as Ed Roth’s all-fiberglass Excaliber/Outlaw created controversy in 1959-1960 by redefining the T roadster, this year’s follow-up broke further from traditional hot rods. The Beatnik Bandit began as sketches drawn by regular Rod & Custom contributor Joe Henning in response to Roth’s desire for “something like the Outlaw, only in coupe form.” Less than a year later, Roth’s vision of a futuristic hot rod rolled into the San Mateo (CA) Custom, Rod and Sports Car Show. The one-piece shell wrapped around a shortened ‘55 Oldsmobile chassis and drivetrain. A conventional, functional, lavishly chromed Olds engine by Fritz Voigt (Mickey Thompson’s builder) was revved by a floor-mounted joystick that additionally controlled steering, shifting, and braking. On setup night, R&C staffer Neal East snapped this outtake to the small photo from the same spot that ran in the June 1961 issue.
Ray Callejo stretched tradition, literally, to double his ‘31 Tudor’s displacement to a whopping 584 ci. Yes, this is one Backstage Past image that has already been published, but it’s the only one we found of a homebuilt hot rod too neat to ignore. Although the drag car later earned an entire Car Craft feature, the negatives for those photos presumably remained with freelance contributor Dave Cunningham. Callejo was evidently still working the bugs out of the combination, as the 124-mph top speed reported by CC came previously, with a single 292ci Chevy. (See June 1961 HRM; Oct. 1961 CC.)
Ah, life must have been good for one of Hollywood’s most-eligible bachelors! None of our sources could identify Robert E. Petersen’s apparent date for Motor Trend’s Car of the Year (Pontiac Tempest) reception, though historian Greg Sharp contributed the best wisecrack. Referencing a Jan. 2019 HRD photo of the publisher’s personal sports car nose-down in a neighbor’s yard, Sharp suggested, “Maybe she made up with Pete after rolling the Mercedes down the hill.”
In one historic frame at Motor Trend’s January cocktail party, Petersen staff photographer Pat Brollier captured the most-powerful trio in hot rodding, drag racing, and land-speed racing. Wally Parks (center) was both the president of NHRA and the editorial director for Bob Petersen (back turned). Mickey Thompson, who recently became world’s fastest (406 mph) with Pontiac power and was leading development of the Tempest four-banger for racing, joined the L.A. celebration for the new compact’s Car of the Year selection. (See Mar. 1961 MT; July 1961 HRM.)
Car Craft staffer Bud Lang’s sequence captured Ed Roth’s plastic bubbletop in action during the NHRA Winternationals car show that preceded the inaugural Pomona national event. A remote control box operated the canopy and started the engine. The unquestionable star of the show inexplicably came up empty in judging for the top trophies, scoring only Best Engine Compartment. That slight by NHRA officials was said to inspire Roth’s withdrawal from future competition in favor of guaranteed appearance money and/or free booth space for painting and selling so-called “weirdo” or “monster” shirts. (See May & July 1961 R&C; May 1961 & Feb. 1962 CC; June 1961 HRM; Mar. 2012 HRD.)
Charles “Boogie” Scott’s record-setting horsepower must have impressed chief HOT ROD photographer Eric Rickman, who tracked down the Olds-motivated Deuce in Pomona’s staging lanes for a rare, candid crew shot. (With just 12 frames per roll of medium-format 120 film, action shooters were understandably reluctant to devote film to mug shots unlikely to interest editors.) Also impressive was the long haul from Louisiana in a ‘51 Ford woody tow car by (from right) Henry Penedo, Cliff Smith, Scott, and Gary Lee. Boogie was denied a Winternationals trophy in the A/Altered final round but earned the national e.t. record in 11.15 seconds, while tying the class-record speed of 140.75 mph (See May 1961 HRM). NHRA Museum historian Greg Sharp reminds us that 45 years later, the 70-year-old chassis builder joined Bonneville’s 200-MPH Club in his Gas Modified roadster at 238.508.
A week after becoming Stock Eliminator at the inaugural Winternationals with his ‘61 Impala, Don Nicholson (right) was a logical choice to participate in Motor Life’s test of Chevrolet’s new 409/409 option. Amazingly, the Chevy that he brought—possibly even drove—to Riverside International Raceway was almost certainly the Pomona-winning race car (this license plate checks out). Unbelievably, he allowed a magazine guy to burn rubber and bang gears in it. Note Petersen’s analog “fifth-wheel” data logger and the dust storm stirred up by fenderwell headers. Bob D’Olivo shot the scene and believes the test driver to be former Motor Trend writer Wayne Thoms.
Petersen conceived Motor Life’s awards ceremony as an annual March event recognizing outstanding drivers, mechanics, car owners, promoters, and racing journalists from each preceding season. Neither the awards program nor the magazine would survive the new year, however. The first—and last—Men of the Year lineup included (from left): Carroll Shelby; Henry Banks (accepting for Official of the Year Harlan Fengler); A.J. Foyt, named overall Driver of the Year; Mrs. Robert Bowes (for son Bob Bowes); George Bignotti; Jack Chrisman; Louis Clements; Rex White; Bob Colvin; and Russ Catlin (for writer Max Muhleman). Not shown is Mickey Thompson, honored for his one-way 406.600 at Bonneville. After the November issue, Motor Life—a title intermittently produced by various publishers since the early 20th century—would be absorbed and replaced by a new Petersen monthly, Sports Car Graphic. (See June 1961 HRM & ML; Dec. 1961 SCG.)

(See June 1961 HRM & ML; Dec. 1961 SCG.)
This series has spared readers the go-karts that commanded more pages in some Petersen monthlies of the era than hot rods and race cars combined. (You’re welcome!) Two rolls logged into the archive’s film index as simply “Jet Kart” earned this exception. Chief photographer Bob D’Olivo pulled the trigger on color photos for a Kart magazine cover story that none of our collector sources owns (thanks, anyway, Gary Medley and Greg Sharp). All we know is that neither the kart owner’s crash helmet nor his tuner’s crescent wrench dissuaded D’Olivo and fellow staffers from blasting around the company’s Hollywood Boulevard headquarters during the after-hours session in Petersen’s makeshift photo studio. At least Car Craft editor Dick Day donned proper headgear for his turn in the seat.
Before the champ-car industry gradually relocated to Indianapolis, suburban Los Angeles was home to countless open-wheel cars. Even so, it’s hard to believe that two different staffers, shooting for different Petersen magazines, would find such homey scenes on two unknown streets in the same city at virtually the same time—if not on the same April day. Oval-track experts Jim Miller and Greg Sharp each answered our plea for vehicle IDs, and then some. We learned that the Vatis Special was the first of three Kurtis-Kraft J-2 models delivered. At the Brickyard in early May, the brand new car was damaged when Chuck Hulse tangled with two drivers during time trials, repaired just in time for the final day of qualifying, then missed the cut on its only timed attempt. (Hulse also drove the adjacent Kurtis 4000 roadster on dirt tracks this year.) The backyard scene shows camgrinder and Indy veteran Dempsey Wilson aboard the Kuzma-built Casale & Greenman entry that did run the race, placing 16th after its 252-inch Offy’s fuel pump failed on Lap 146 (of 200). The photo archive’s film log reveals that respective Petersen photographers Al Paloczy and Eric Rickman turned their exposed film into the lab just one day apart. (See June 1961 ML & HRM.)
Al Paloczy was hired by Bob D’Olivo as a lab technician but proved capable of shooting creative car features, particularly of customs. Colleague Pat Brollier captured some foolishness while Paloczy was waiting for B&W prints to dry.
George Barris’ signboard insisted that his XPAK 400 “runs on a 5-inch cushion of air,” but spectators at the Tridents Car Club Show don’t seem to be buying it. Nor was satirical R&C contributor Joe Henning. Perhaps biased by his design work and fondness for arch-rival Ed Roth, Henning described a recent Bakersfield show during which George “personally conducted a demonstration of the fabulous air car, during which it rose to microscopic heights.” Harsher still was a subsequent Roth Studios ad hyping Big Daddy’s upcoming Rotar as the “only land, sea, air car to work without gimmicks (no hydraulic jack to make it lift), actually flies!” Barris’ addition of a billowing parachute added drama to the demonstrations, but we have yet to find evidence of the advertised elevation. (See Mar. 1961 CC; May & Sept. 1961 R&C.)
We were seeking some excuse—er, that is, a good reason—to share a negative shot for Motor Life that doesn’t appear in our incomplete collection. We found justification under a May HRM headline that looked like a leftover bit from a goofy April Fools issue: “Tragedy Hits Model Car Field.” The disaster turned out to be the theft of 1,200 cartons containing 15,000 AMT plastic kits of 1961 Ford “customizing convertibles” from a Chicago freight terminal worth $19,000. Coincidentally, when Motor Life visited this unknown factory a month after HOT ROD’s item appeared, the bodies stacking up in front of a lone assembly line worker happened to be hardtop versions of a ‘61 Ford.
Pikes Peak’s big story was the surprising emergence of Fords as contenders in the Stock Car class. Not coincidentally, four of them were freshly outfitted with the factory’s first four-speed transmissions, installed by Bill Stroppe on behalf of Colorado dealers anxious to end GM’s domination on the mountain. Fords qualified 1-2-3, ahead of the favored Chevys, but Curtis Turner (pictured) fell 2.4 seconds behind Louis Unser’s 409 bubbletop on race day. (See Sept. 1961 HRM; Oct. 1961 ML & MT.)
Wally Parks waited until Kent Fuller finished building the first four-engine dragster before banning four-engine cars—all except this one, effectively granting Tommy Ivo an exclusive exhibition act. “NHRA told me, ‘If this thing runs good, we’ll have four-motor cars popping up all over the place,’” Ivo explained in a recent e-mail. What appears to be a suburban L.A. neighborhood was actually an elaborate set on the 20th Century Fox lot (where Century City sits today). HRM’s chosen photo location was the fake street in front of the fake house familiar to millions of viewers of a 1961-1962 series costarring TV Tom and Cynthia Pepper as Roaring ‘20s teens. “It was Eric Rickman’s brainstorm to shoot it on the Margie set and get me grounded from drag racing after [studio execs] saw the car I owned. Nice idea, Eric—not! You might say this was the defining moment when I decided to change careers. I gave up acting for drag racing when the series ended because I never wanted to get grounded again.” A tire-wiper named Don Prudhomme graduated to the seat. The duo charged $500 per local appearance; the kid was paid all of 25 bucks. “Ron Pellegrini took Prudhomme’s place when his now-wife, then-girlfriend Lynn told Don that if he left town again, after touring with me and the twin-engined car in 1960, she wouldn’t wait for him anymore,” Ivo added. “He was grounded! After three years, Pellegrini told me the car was all done, so I sold it to Tom McCourry—who ran it nine more years!” It was restored with the aluminum station-wagon body that Tom Hanna attached in 1966 and resides in a private collection. (See Dec. 1961 HRM; Mar. 2012 & Nov. 2016 HRD.)
The so-called kustomizing kings sat down together with R&C editor Bill Neumann in early December for a lengthy, tape-recorded interview that inexplicably waited until the May and June 1962 issues to surface as excerpts entitled, “Mr. Barris, Meet Mr. Roth.” The show-car world was anxiously awaiting the debut of Rotar, Big Daddy’s answer to George’s much-maligned XPAK 400, and an inevitable battle between so-called air cars. Dig the following exchange: Neumann: Ed, Does Rotar actually fly? Roth: Yes. Neumann: George, does XPAK fly? Barris: Does it fly? It’s an experimental car that will raise in the air. Yes. The same two issues carry a related, two-part episode of Pete Millar’s popular Arin Cee comic strip (starring R&C’s answer to Tom Medley’s Stroker McGurk character in HRM) in which the editor assigns Arin the story behind each man’s desire to reign as the king of kustoms. The last two panels bring the contenders together, suddenly sporting each other’s distinctive style: Ed wears a suit; George has a goatee. Their true motivations are finally revealed at the end: Roth: I wanna be king so I can wear a shirt and tie. All my life I’ve wanted to be like George. Barris: … and I want to be like Big Daddy and grow a beard. (See Apr., May & June 1962 R&C.)
Just guessing, but hard times seemed to be a theme of the company’s holiday party in December. Staff artists produced life-size facsimiles of three bums wearing mug shots of PPC executives. The dummy holding the dismal sales graph appears to be Robert E. Petersen himself. While HRM reported unprecedented sales “crowding 700,000,” a tumultuous year internally saw Pete fold two other titles and replace the entire R&C staff after editor Lynn Wineland, a six-year employee, devoted much of the September issue to a newfound fascination with skydiving.
Mr. Petersen obviously got with the poverty program, panhandling for spare change while wearing a signboard showing discontinued magazines. The dapper dude at left looks like ambitious Dick Day, who’d advanced from contributing cartoonist to current Car Craft editor (later becoming a PPC publisher and vice president).
One of the last “car” features shot this year captured the much-anticipated, ill-fated Rotar. Here, Ed Roth shows the after effects of cramming a six-foot-four Big Daddy under the tiny bubbletop for Bill Neumann’s camera. Powered by dual, unmuffled 650cc Triumph engines sitting on their sides, the remote-controlled hovercraft would soon debut in a Pasadena show and remain a major attraction for two show seasons. Unlike Barris’ XPAK 400, Roth’s version proved adept at rising 4 to 5 inches while “blowing up girls’ skirts,” Roth noted proudly. The fun and the “air-car war” stopped suddenly in Detroit when an oil-starved crankshaft failed at full throttle, blasting bits of aluminum fan blades and plastic into the crowd, seriously injuring at least one bystander. (See Aug., Sept. & Dec. 1961 R&C; Apr. & June 1962 R&C.)

As we say goodbye to the 1900's, it's time to share how I dressed my sims during this decade, just as I did for the 1890's.
If you happen to be just joining in, I am playing through the decades challenge without using CC, for the most part. People sharing their CC decades experience, check out Ashubii, have really helped me style my sims. This post is to return that kindness back to the community.
To start: -I am using zero CC clothing, hair, accessories etc. -I do own all packs -I use some "body" cc (lashes, skin overlay, body blush) -Between the limitations of what is available in game and my basic knowledge of the decade, don't expect accuracy just inspiration -If you want to know what pack an item is from, please ask! I am very WCIF friendly
I want to start by echoing a statement I made in the post about the 1890's, most of these outfits could work for the 1890's and outfits I used from the 1890's could be used for this decade depending on how wealthy your family is. While the last gen grew up in something closer to poverty, Walter got rich-rich, so his family's outfits are a bit nicer, and each member of the family had multiple outfits in many categories.
Walter Pancakes, heir to the Pancake throne, feels like the right place to start. He really borrowed his style from his uncle and wanted to flaunt the higher status he was able to acquire through his education and hard work. He had multiples for almost every category, but I chose to highlight two everyday, athletic, party, formal, sleep, hot, and cold weather.
Ingrid Pancakes my love. I shouldn't have favorites but she's a favorite, also her genes helped make the most beautiful Pancake children so I'm very partial to her. She wore lots of lace, leaned into blue to compliment her eyes, and of course she had multiple outfits to choose from. Here I am showing off three everyday, formal, sleep, party, hot, and cold weather.
The twins! I had so much fun dressing them up. As they grew, I wanted to show off Ralph's more casual attitude, with one of his everyday outfits being a disheveled uniform, and Alf's more put together style, keeping his vest buttoned and a bit more formal of a look even in his everyday wear. Here I have three everyday, a formal, active, sleep, party, swim, hot, and cold weather option.
Nell's teen years, I imagine, she borrowed everything from her mother. All her fancy clothes, that no longer fit Ingrid, found a spot in Nell's wardrobe. The two of course would shop for new pieces to ensure she was very much in fashion, but the color pallet and silhouette would be borrowed heavily from mom. Here I have two everyday, a formal, athletic, sleep, party, swim, hot, and cold weather.
THIS! This was my favorite outfit category. Never in a million years would I have expected to enjoy dressing boys in the 1900's to be so much fun, but it was my favorite. I felt like I had limitless options, as seen by this cramped photo, though I will call out the shorts from Batuu were a game changer. Here I have three everyday, a formal, athletic, sleep, two party, swim, two hot weather, and two cold weather outfits.
Dressing the girls in the 1800s was a pain point for me. So, I am pleased with how I was able to dress Nell and her friends as children. I am honestly so sad she missed out on the outfit options that launched with Life & Death, so I am hoping for some girls to be born in the next generation and excited to revisit the older decades in my next playthrough. to see how much easier this time will be. Here I have an example of her everyday, formal, athletic, sleep, hot, and cold weather outfits,
Ralph and Alfred both got cute enough outfits as toddlers, but my favorite was dressing Nell. Partly because Nell is my favorite of the siblings (shhhh don't tell). The other part, because she's a girl and therefor more fun to dress. The kiddos are in everyday, formal, sleep, you get it.
I forgot to take screenshots of infants- If you saw a gameplay screenshot you got the full range of my outfit abilities, which is a white onesie for every category, so just imagine that here.
I do think the copy/past update that came out will help moving forward and the options from Life & Death are interesting, so I'll hold out hope that my feelings here may change. But forgive me for skipping the photos here.
As always, I hope this was fun and helpful to anyone who needs inspiration. I'm super open to questions or suggestions for future generations or my next go around!

Tag Game for Historical Simblrs!
I initially made this tag game over a year ago at a point when I felt like there were a lot of new people on history simblr I didn't know. I was chatting with some friends and thought now might be a good time to revive it!
1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?
Right now I'm very excited for the 1920s, I have a lot of plans and some unique story lines I feel coming up. It's also feeling like I'll actually get there soon!
2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)
Last time I did this I chose a BB piece so this time I'm going CAS, happylifesims recently made a victorian workers outfit with these adorable rolled sleeves and it just looks so good on guys. It's the current darling of my heart.
3. Who is your favorite sim currently?
Right now it's Willy, I'm really excited to get back into the Sewell's and really start exploring his story in earnest.
4. What is your favorite world?
Still Brindleton Bay, always has been, always will be.
5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?
I like to think I mix these two mediums pretty well, I plan big story arcs but tend to let gameplay influence day to day, and if something interesting gameplay wise happens I try to include it!
6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?
I do! I think they add a really fun dimension to the family and are great for social needs.
7. What’s your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?
All the townies with the strangest colored hair and body types. And names. I just wish it wasn't all so discordant.
8. What’s your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)
I really like the items that came with the country kitchen kit, the bucket of fruit and vegetables just makes me so happy.
9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?
I'm at the point where I just want a historical pack. I know it's not gonna happen, but gosh a girl can dream.
10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?
I think that Cottage Living is amazing all around, but I'd put Cats and Dogs second, perhaps tying with Get Together. They both have amazing BB and CAS and i prefer the worlds to Henford.
11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?
Mizoreyukii has a functional broom that works like a vacuum and it just makes my little historical simmer heart happy to see my sims sweeping away.
12. What’s your ideal family size for playing?
I like having enough to keep it interesting, but not so many that it's overwhelming. I think maybe five or six but obviously the ages influence things too.
13. Do you use poses?
I do! I like to use in game animations whenever I can because they feel a bit more lively to me, but sometimes you need to track down a pose or wrestle with blender to make one when you need something specific.
14. Do you use any overrides in your game?
Yes, I love overrides. I use moonsims historic book override, a mop override, a dish override, a fireplace light override, a dog leash override. Big on overrides here.
15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?
I usually don't, I find it a bit too limiting for what would have actually been historically possible at the time.
16. What lifespan do you play on?
A slightly tweaked version of normal, but some people have been sort of convincing me to potentially try a longer one.... We'll see...
17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?
A reddit post about the decades challenge, which was just a completely new way to think about playing to me. I'd never really done any kind of challenge before at all and I think the combo of passage of time, goals, and so much fun new cc just absolutely hooked me!!
See how my answers have changed in the past year and a half
I geared it towards historical simming, since that’s what I do, but please feel free to partake even if you’re not a historical simmer and just adapt for regular gameplay or whatever you do!!
I'm going to cast a wide net here with my tags @aheathen-conceivably @cowplant-snacks @simadelics @thistleflower-sims @carousel-of-sims @stargazingsims @gilded-ghosts @simming-in-the-rain @scythesms @surely-sims @historysims4 @sasaofastora @javitrulovesims and anyone else who would like to take part!
I really like these because it helps me get to know everyone I see on my dash and sometimes find new people to follow, so don't be shy about taking part!!

Tag Game for Historical Simblrs!
I haven't seen one of these on historical simblr in a bit, and I feel like there's a bunch of new faces I want to get to know a bit better! And I've always found these to be really fun, so I threw this little tag game together. I figured I'd put my answers in to get it started and then tag some people!
1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?
This is a bit far away, but I'm so excited to play the 1940s, it's one of my favorite decades and I have so many fun ideas for the decade!
2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)
I really love the keroseeing lamp by @vampireloreskill, I use it in all my builds and it just makes my builds feel so much more realistic. @linzlu 's two sinks are also really amazing, I love how they transform my kitchens.
3. Who is your favorite sim currently?
Currently my favorite sim might be Freddy, we haven't seen much of him in the story, but I think there's so much potential with him and I'm super excited to explore it all.
4. What is your favorite world?
Brindleton Bay, I'm from New England so it feels like home. 🤷♀️
5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?
I feel like I'm a good mix of that, I play the game and let game events influence the story, but I also do steer based on storyline arcs I want to explore.
6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?
I do! I have pets myself and I think they're just an important thing, also they're a good way to get fun and social needs up in early decades.
7. What's your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?
Probably the constant need for sims to get on their phones, I really dislike that!
8. What's your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)
The braided rugs, I love putting those all over my builds, they're perfect for historic builds! The new icebox from Cottage Living is also amazing.
9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?
I really want to see a new pack that's like generations, and addresses aging and makes that process more natural. I'd also love to see more for teenagers, they honestly aren't super interesting right now.
10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?
Either Get Together or Cottage Living, the build objects and world from Get Together are great, but the gameplay introduced with Cottage Living was pretty game changing.
11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?
It's basic but I love the timeless mod by @pandorasimbox, I forget what the world looks like without it at this point.
12. What's your ideal family size for playing?
Oh maybe like five? I like having enough to do different things, but it does get hard to manage with too many.
13. Do you use poses?
I do! I've recently gotten into making them myself, but I'm still not great at it haha.
14. Do you use any overrides in your game?
I use a couple, a fireplace lighter override, the baby onesie override, and a dining dish override, maybe a couple others but I can't remember.
15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?
I've tried it a couple of times, but I never felt realistic for historic gameplay, since it was so limiting.
16. What lifespan do you play on?
Basically normal, I've had to tweak it a bit lately but it's equivalent to that.
17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?
Several years ago I saw a post on Reddit about the decades challenge and it just opened up this completely new way of playing and the whole simblr world. I was very much in a funk prior to historical simming and I didn't use any cc, so it's really impacted how I play!
I'm going to tag @historiasim @cosisim @sinclairesimblr @thesim-tea @pixelnrd @ivyandink and @stargazingsims (edit: just gonna add a few more tags! @sims-half-crazy @hesitantpixels @peebsplays) feel free to ignore, but if you want to play just copy and paste with your own answers and tag whoever you want so they can play too! Also of course please feel free to take part even if you don't get tagged! If you end up doing it give me a tag so I can see your answers!
I geared it towards historical simming, since that's what I do, but please feel free to partake even if you're not a historical simmer and just adapt for regular gameplay or whatever you do!!
I hope you guys enjoy and have fun!
