i understand they're not for everyone, but i do think a lot of people who are primarily exposed to queerness through online discourse would benefit from going to a queer bar and experiencing other queers having fun with each other in a distinctly queer way. i had been looking to attend a kink night at a queer bar for a while, and I finally got to go to one last night, and i'm very glad that i did. I was fortunate that the bar I went to had CBD drinks, so I could enjoy myself despite not being able to drink alcohol
there was an old woman with a rollator who set up at a table right next to the stage with free candy and snacks for everyone, but especially for the drag performers. I found that a lot of people there ended up calling her mom. she gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me to get home safe as I was leaving. she told me she'd see me next weekend, see was there every week.
there were adults of all ages there it was an underwear & animal play night, and the house was busy. drag queens and kings, bears, pups, bunnies, cats, leather people and all kinds of vanilla folks showed up. people in collars and harnesses, in jockstraps and leather briefs, on leashes, being lead around on their hands and knees. there were drag performances all throughout the nights and some of the queens included BDSM elements into their performances
i spent the night dancing with the leather puppy boys including an FTM pup who became my friend, some extremely cute old men with white hair and glittery shorts, a middle aged asian man in tiny black undies who really got into the music, an older man who looked like Freddie Mercury who was wearing tiny undies with pink straps and tall pink pumps, a lesbian couple who were fiercely making out most of the night, and a very tall person wearing a shirt that said "stay queer as fuck" with glittery rhinestoned shoes.
i saw a lot of people who were unafraid to be themselves. a lot of people who were willing to show this small slice of the world who they are, their authentic self, no matter what that meant. no one did anything that invaded my boundaries by being their authentic selves. others being loud and proud about themselves didn't drown me out. i felt more like it was okay to be who i was, too. dancing with the pups helped me realize that i'm ready to get into pup play, after questioning if it was for me for years. the exposure was healthy, it's hard to know certain things for sure until you actually put yourself out there
it's not an environment for everyone, i get that. but in whatever ways you can find it exposure to other queers in person is lifesaving, especially when you are having fun. sitting and meeting with each other and discussing what it means to be queer is important, but having fun together in a queer way is literally vital to our health and well being. just talking about being queer all the time won't nourish your soul. experiencing queer fun is necessary, especially when it comes to adults. we're need to and are allowed to have fun with each other in a distinctly queer way. it's important to embrace it when and where possible, in whatever ways make sense for you.
you'll feel a lot less self conscious when you see other people happily flying their freak flag, too

Thinking about disabled AK!Jason tonite with a disabled s/o
Let's be fr this man could/should be an ambulatory wheelchair user but he won't because he doesn't know that's a thing and wouldn't think he deserved it. If you're an ambulatory wheelchair user maybe one day you manage to lovingly bully him into just TRYING it and it is life changing
He uses his ambulatory energy to do Red Hood shit nbd
if he doesn't use a wheelchair he's got at least 2 braces--shoulder and knee
Baby has chronic pain, arthritis, chronic migraines from being beaten
Missing some teeth too
take this boy to your neuro or your ortho!!!! he is totally unaware he does not need to live like this. better living through chemistry
let's get him some therapy too
you WILL have to go to his drs appointments with him. mans WILL freak the fuck out for ANY medical procedure, has very serious medical abuse trauma. if he can see how your drs help you he is much more likely to go if he can see that you are benefiting from your providers and that they haven't harmed you
if you're scared of drs he will FULLY stand behind you. probably not that healthy tbh but he gets it
having a special Migraine Protocol for each of you (it's basically just a snack and a drink, blue light filter glasses, a sleep mask with headphones for that special Migraine Playlist)
make your own pain scales and talk through frequency of pain bc when you have constant or near constant pain it fucks up your ability to quantify it so making your own pain scale is helpful (he probably uses shakespeare plays or authors. like a 5 for jason is twilight, because you can see some problems but it's fun and fluffy but when you start looking closer OH NO SO MANY PROBLEMS)
pain meters on a wall near the kitchen so you can know what you're working with
CBD patches
the AK suit is basically a giant brace/mobility aid so you help him figure out how to adapt it for his red hood persona, how to make it lighter and allow for greater ROM
will remind you to do physical therapy
resistance bands ALL OVER THE HOUSE
learning bodywork techniques
AT LEAST once a week using a special oil or lotion to work into some of his bigger scars to make the tissue more mobile
giving him a back/neck/scalp/face massage
after a while obvi that's a lot of trust he's putting in you
NOT deep tissue. don't hurt him more. you can have effective therapeutic massage without hurting a person
trager work involves basically shaking a limb and letting the weight of the muscle do all the work but it feels weird the first time and he'd just start laughing at you
specially if you do his glutes
but it feels really nice so he stops laughing and it does help his lower body pain
putting magnesium lotion on each other's neck and shoulders
start to ask each other "are you angry or in pain?"
hand massages
teaching him to stop pushing through the pain
one of his knees is basically bone on bone so you always know when the weather is changing
if u both have bad knees u just don't even when the weather is changing. take some pain meds, use your topical pain reliever of choice, prop those joints up and snuggle in bed. watch a youtube series or he can read to you
heated blankets as heating pads supremacy
occasionally he'll be in pain and the kind of pain where you feel like you're going insane, so as a distraction he will go online and buy a bunch of weird pain-relieving gadgets and you'll spend a week trying them out
(sometimes his pain fog shopping spree is blind boxes, or nail polish, or statement shirts)
all of his siblings know to come to your place if they get beat tf up because your medicine cabinet is UNreal
you're about to give cass or steph a Controlled Substance Pain Reliever and you pause "this is technically drug dealing, isn't it? dOn'T teLL rEd hOOD" jason is literally patching them up right next to you
soft blankets
reminding each other it's ok to take it slow
he's constantly tearing into the other rogues for not having ADA accessible lairs (except Ivy who successfully argued that the plants make it ADA accessible which will do. FOR NOW.)
#jason todd#red hood#arkham knight#ak!jason todd#reader insert#x reader#jason todd x reader#ak!jason x reader#my stuff#chronic migraine#dc brainrot#invisible disability#chronic pain#disability#seriously low back trager work has no business being as effective as it is#i miss doing massage :(

CALI, Colombia (AP) — After two weeks of negotiations, delegates on Saturday agreed at the United Nations conference on biodiversity to establish a subsidiary body that will include Indigenous peoples in future decisions on nature conservation, an important development that builds on a growing movement to recognize the role of Indigenous peoples in protecting land and helping combat climate change.
The delegates also agreed to oblige major corporations to share the financial benefits of research when using natural genetic resources.
Indigenous delegations erupted into cheers and tears after the historic decision to create the subsidiary body was announced. It recognizes and protects the traditional knowledge systems of Indigenous peoples and local communities for the benefit of global and national biodiversity management, said Sushil Raj, Executive Director of the Rights and Communities Global Program at the Wildlife Conservation Society.
“It strengthens representation, coordination, inclusive decision making, and creates a space for dialogue with parties to the COP,” Raj told The Associated Press, referring to the formal name of the gathering, Conference of Parties.
Negotiators had struggled to find common ground on some key issues in the final week but came to a consensus after talks went late into Friday.
The COP16 summit, hosted in Cali, Colombia, was a follow-up to the historic 2022 accord in Montreal, which included 23 measures to save Earth’s plant and animal life, including putting 30 percent of the planet and 30 percent of degraded ecosystems under protection by 2030.
A measure to recognize the importance of the role of people of African descent in the protection of nature was also adopted in Cali.
The Indigenous body will be formed by two co-chairs elected by COP: one nominated by U.N. parties of the regional group, and the other nominated by representatives of Indigenous peoples and local communities, the AP saw in the final document.
At least one of the co-chairs will be selected from a developing country, taking into account gender balance, the document said.
“With this decision, the value of the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants and local communities is recognized, and a 26-year-old historical debt in the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is settled,” Susana Muhamad, Colombia’s environment minister and COP16 president, posted on social media platform X shortly after the announcement.

You seem kind. But that's all genuinely really unfortunate to have happened to you and is sad to hear. Addiction is a mental illness and the mentally ill shouldn't be dehumanized. The thing is those people like any severely mentally ill person, needed help. Also statistically speaking you're more likely to be targeted by a non addict than an addict as far as violent crime goes
I'm not denying that addiction is ugly and has in instances contributed to people doing horrible things. There are many other mental illnesses that could cause the same poor judgement and they don't deserve to die either. I've been harmed severely by people who were addicts. They sucked and many also hurt me before they were addicts too. I've been hurt by non addicts just as much. It's not like people choose to become addicted for fun. And don't even get me started on the war on drugs and how the American government intentionally set people up for drug addiction
And you're missing the point of my post and ignoring the important statistic I mentioned. 80% of people on drugs like heroin started with legally prescribed painkillers. A lot of disabled and chronically ill people rely on them. I rely on stronger painkillers because I'm deathly allergic to most alternatives and they would not likely help anyway. Should my condition worsen and I need higher doses or something even stronger, I'm at higher risk for discrimination because doctors and pharmacists often treat disabled people like criminals for needing pain meds. And I'd be at higher risk for addiction because god forbid I want to be out of pain enough to eat or sleep. A lot of addicts, that's all they wanted, and it can get out of hand fast even taking it as directed. However limiting these drugs and side eyeing people like me while we writhe in pain has unsurprisingly done nothing to help addiction either
The thing is there are ways to reduce the severity of which addiction affects society in many parts of the world that some regions have adopted and seen positive results from. Portugal decriminalized drugs back in 2001- yes decriminalized. Criminalizing them has done nothing to help anyone. Then safe consumption sites, where people can safely use drugs with supervision and be assisted and kept safe has also been adopted in some places. And free resources like rehab and housing also have been implemented. And every single one of those things decreased the amount of drug addicts and helped many reclaim their lives. Portugal saw a severe drop in HIV cases after decriminalizing drugs. They actually drastically improved the issue by humanizing them. Who knew!
And it's not like the (US, at least) government can't afford this- I mean it can afford to pay even more to assist in a genocide than it would cost to address things like homelessness and hunger and addiction and healthcare and other factors that play a role here. Los Angeles has more empty houses and apartment units than homeless people by far. Finland has seen success in housing many homeless people. They had a problem and fixed it, just like that. It costs more to keep a homeless person on the street than it would to house them- by about 50%
It makes me sad to see people treating addicts like they're subhuman monsters when they deserve better and there are many ways it can happen. It only makes the problem worse to mistreat them when giving resources and compassion to them has proven to be the most effective approach. And the stigmatization as I said, affects the disabled community as a whole (and addiction can be disabling). It's not helpful to anyone to treat them like animals
The way addicts and chronically ill people are dehumanized is so exhausting
The normalization of this shit in medical and casual settings is genuinely mind boggling. Addicts and disabled people go through so much bullshit. I've dealt with many fucked up doctors when I just needed help
I had a kidney infection, some months back. This is always extremely medically urgent, and I was likely only hours from sepsis. I went to the hospital reporting my pain to be a 9/10. 9 because my 10 was gallstones. I experienced severe malpractice at the hospital and the doctor reported exams that never occured and false information while making me wait with nothing more than tylenol to hold me over (didn't touch the pain) and bring my fever down but that's a whole other story
They did however, deny me the pain medication I needed until it was time to go home. I'm deathly allergic to NSAIDS, but that's something an addict might say so they witheld pain relief because they'd rather me suffer just in case I'm a different kind of sick. An entire night, maybe 6 hours in the ER and they couldn't give me anything, not a small dose of morphine or one norco even a few hours prior to take the edge off of the pain while I was curled up shaking and crying. Just in case I was an addict looking for my fix, and my suffering was just withdrawals and good acting. In that case maybe I deserved it and should be denied my humanity. God forbid in that case I'm so desperate to alleviate unbearable withdrawals that I spend all night in the ER crying. Not the first time I've experienced red tape just to get relief from excruciating pain
But whatever. As per protocol I was asked to follow up with my pcp. So a few days later I called to set an appointment, but I'd also run out of norco and desperate to relieve the pain I asked if I could be filled even enough for a few days, until the pain was bearable. I had difficulty walking, laying down, and I again, can't take most pain relievers. The receptionist was nice and understanding, actually got me in touch with the doctor because she wanted me to be able to get my refill. Probably heard the pain in my voice even. She believed me
She transfers me over to the doctor and I tell him I'd like a follow up and ask if he could fill my painkillers. I would've acceped a no from him, I just needed my follow up. He asked about my condition, I told him my diagnosis and how much pain I was in
And he laughed.
Got a real hoot out of it, like he had me all figured out. Like he caught me trying to cheat the system. I must be trying to get high or make some money with a few days worth of norco as i'm nearly in tears from the pain even while calling
He tells me through his laughter "I don't prescribe painkillers for 'kidney infections'" saying it with a mocking emphasis on those words, as if I'd said "stubbed toe". Follows with "Yeah haha, bye." and hangs up on me. No follow up like I called for. Needless to say I no longer have a pcp but truly if he thought I was an addict trying to take advantage of him he should have still treated me professionally. Maybe not cackled when I said my pain was excruciating for a start
I just don't understand why the hell so many doctors can be so apathetic to people's suffering. Addicts deserve better and so do disabled people- whether you think they're addicts or not. The assumption that we're lying, trying to trick them and are feigning pain to do it is disgusting, listening to your patients is so important. And if that were the case they could have some sympathy and ask themselves what it would take for someone to go those lengths, take such drastic measures and go through that trouble to obtain those substances.
Addiction is not a moral failing. Many disabled and chronically ill people unfortunately rely on medications that have addictive properties. About 80% of heroin addicts first misused prescription drugs. However only about 4-6% of those addicted to prescription drugs switch to things like heroin. And instead of help or compassion for people who just need help (addicts or not), they just figure we're one in the same and treat us like subhuman degenerates, leeches on society. And I think people need to change how they view addiction. Doctors need to change how they view addiction
#the amount of times you use the word liberal on your blog could probably break a record of some sort#pretty cringe tho#and yes i do take other measures like CBD but no amount will be enough to keep the pain at bay#i hope this makes sense#started getting brain fog and then a migraine#i know i don't have to give people like this the time of day but idk#people sometimes benefit more from dialogue#not always but perspective is good idk I'm doing my best#but yeah while these alternatives are radical and sounds like 'oh no I can't pay for addicts to get free shit they don't deserve it'#the truth of the matter is it's quite the opposite and decreases the prevalence of addiction#and connected issues like i mentioned#but this all sounds like misdirected frustration that isn't used in a constructive manner when it can be directed into helping the crisis#like I'm mad those people hurt you AND that they didn't have the resources to heal before it got that bad#btw if they went to jail you paid more to keep them there than you would with the resources to get help#that doesn't matter to me personally but looking at your blog your tax dollars seem to be a big concern of yours

Cannabis: A Multifaceted Plant for a Multitude of Uses
Introduction
Cannabis, a plant that has been a part of human history for thousands of years, is experiencing a resurgence in popularity as its myriad of uses become increasingly recognised. From its strong fibres used in textiles and paper to its nutritional and medicinal properties, cannabis has proven itself to be a truly multipurpose plant. This article will delve into the various aspects of this versatile plant and explore how it has been utilised throughout history and across cultures.
The History of Hemp: A Material with Unmatched Strength
One of the most well-known uses of cannabis is in the production of hemp, a material derived from the plant's strong fibres. These fibres have been used for millennia to create durable cloth, rope, and paper. The Vikings, known for their seafaring prowess, utilised hemp to construct sails for their ships, enabling them to voyage from Scandinavia to Nova Scotia. In the United States, Betsy Ross sewed the first flag from hempen cloth, and the Declaration of Independence was written on hemp paper. Even the now obsolete German currency, Deutsche Mark, were once printed on hemp paper.
The use of hemp extended beyond these applications, as seen in the Netherlands, where windmills were built specifically to crush hemp stalks. This demonstrates the importance of hemp in various industries and highlights the plant's incredible versatility.
Cannabis as a Nutritional Powerhouse
While the strength of its fibres may have initially attracted humans to the cannabis plant, its potential as a food source likely played a significant role in its widespread cultivation. Cannabis seeds, or hempseeds, are packed with essential nutrients such as polyunsaturated fats, essential fatty acids, and proteins. These qualities qualify hempseed as a functional food, meaning it provides health benefits beyond basic nutrition.
For over three thousand years, Asian cultures have utilised hempseed as both a food and a medicine. Despite the prohibition of cannabis products in the United States, hempseed has been allowed for use in food over the last two decades. This highlights the recognition of its nutritional value and potential health benefits.
Cannabis Resin: A Source of Medicinal and Psychoactive Compounds
The resin produced by the cannabis plant is another aspect that has garnered significant attention due to its medicinal and psychoactive properties. The compounds found in cannabis resin, such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), have been the focus of breeding efforts to increase their production. These efforts have led to the development of various cannabis drug chemotypes around the world, with some cultivars producing only THC, others producing both THC and CBD, and a few expressing propyl THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) and/or CBDV (cannabidivarin).
The medicinal uses of cannabis resin have been widely researched, with evidence suggesting its effectiveness in treating conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and more. The psychoactive effects of THC have also led to the recreational use of cannabis, which has sparked debates surrounding its legalisation and regulation.
Environmental Benefits of Cannabis Cultivation
In addition to its myriad uses, cannabis cultivation offers several environmental benefits. Hemp plants are known to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide, making them an effective tool in combating climate change. Furthermore, hemp requires fewer pesticides and herbicides than many other crops, reducing the environmental impact of agriculture.
Cannabis can also be used as a source of biofuel, offering a renewable and eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels. Additionally, the fast growth rate and low water requirements of hemp make it a sustainable crop, capable of providing resources without causing significant strain on natural resources.
Conclusion
Cannabis is a truly remarkable plant, with applications ranging from textiles and paper to nutrition and medicine. As society continues to recognise its numerous benefits, it is likely that the cultivation and use of cannabis will only continue to grow. By embracing this versatile plant, we can harness its potential to improve our health, industries, and environment for generations to come.

DISCLAIMER: Please do your own research and come to your own conclusions.
When you tell someone a medicine for dogs cured your cancer, you better be ready for some skeptics, but Joe Tippens says it saved his life, and the lives of others.
Now, even cancer researchers are open to the possibility it might be true."My stomach, my neck, my liver, my pancreas, my bladder, my bones -- it was everywhere," Tippens said. Tippens said he was told to go home, call hospice and say his goodbyes two years ago. The doctors were unanimous, he was going to die of small cell lung cancer.
"Once that kind of cancer goes that far afield, the odds of survival are less than 1 percent, and median life expectancy is three months," Tippens said. Tippens said he went from 220 pounds to 110. "I was a skeleton with skin hanging off of it," he said. "It was difficult."
But that was January of 2017. Today, Tippens is very much alive and what he credits for his survival has doctors scratching their heads, and the rest of us raising eyebrows. "About half the people think I'm just crazy," he said. "And about half the people want to know more and dig deeper."
Tippens said he received a tip from a veterinarian, of all people. And in his desperation, he turned from people medicine to dog medicine. Specifically, something you give your dog when it has worms. "The truth is stranger than fiction, you know?" Tippens said, laughing. Just three months later, Tippens says, his cancer was gone.
"I'm usually skeptical, and I was and maybe still am about this one," said Stephen Prescott, president of the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. "But there's interesting background to this." Cancer researchers like Prescott are skeptical, but they also are not dismissing this anti-parasitic's potential. He says Tippens is not the first person to potentially benefit, and not the last.
"Scientists and many credible places have done work on this for years," Prescott said. But was it the de-wormer, or was it something else? Tippens took the dog medicine with daily vitamin E supplements and CBD oil. He was also taking an experimental cancer-fighting drug. But Tippens says out of the 1,100 patients on that clinical trial, he was the only one cleared of cancer.
Tippens says he was saved by the dog de-wormer and he plans to take it for the rest of his life. "My insurance company spent $1.2 million on me with traditional means before I switched to a $5 a week medicine that actually saved me," he said. Prescott says he's now working with Tippens to organize a case study.
"We're going to do it and see if we can confirm, in a very rigorous and clinical sort of way, that these patients had that kind of response," Prescott said. As for Tippens: "I've got over 40 success stories other than me," he said. He's sharing his story on an online blog that has been read more than 100,000 times. Most of the feedback is positive, or curious.
Some accuse Tippens of giving cancer patients false hope. "Oh, how do I answer that?" he sighed. "I mean, if I've saved one other person other than me, it's worth it to me." All we know for sure is that Tippens is alive. In time, perhaps we'll also know if this medicine made for man's best friend might also be man's newest cancer cure.

Exploring the Green Scene: Marijuana and Cannabis Products in Washington, D.C.
Certainly! Washington, D.C. has unique regulations and perspectives on marijuana and cannabis products, so let’s delve into some key aspects:
**Legal Status:** Marijuana in Washington, D.C. is legal for recreational use for adults aged 21 and older. Initiative 71, passed in 2014, allows individuals to possess up to 2 ounces of marijuana and cultivate up to 6 plants (only 3 mature) in their homes. However, the sale of marijuana is not fully legalized, meaning you cannot legally purchase it in D.C. dispensaries.
**Cannabis Products:** Despite the limitations on sales, there is a thriving market for cannabis-related products such as CBD oils, edibles, and other derivatives. CBD (cannabidiol) products are particularly popular due to their non-psychoactive nature and potential therapeutic benefits.
**Dispensaries and Access:** While D.C. allows home cultivation and possession, dispensaries operate under a unique model where they can provide cannabis as “gifts” or in exchange for donations for other items, such as artwork or clothing. This is due to the legal gray area regarding sales. As of now, there are a number of dispensaries operating in D.C. that navigate these legal nuances.
**Regulations and Challenges:** Navigating the legal landscape of marijuana in Washington, D.C. can be challenging due to the unique laws and ongoing debates about regulation. There are efforts to establish a framework for legal sales similar to other states where recreational use is fully legalized, but progress has been slow.
**Community and Culture:** The cannabis community in D.C. is vibrant and diverse, with events such as cannabis festivals, educational workshops, and advocacy groups playing a significant role. These events often focus on education about safe consumption, legal rights, and the latest developments in cannabis research.
**Conclusion:** Washington, D.C. presents an interesting case study in the evolving landscape of marijuana legalization. While residents have the freedom to possess and grow marijuana, the absence of a legal sales framework presents challenges and opportunities for the local cannabis community. As laws and attitudes continue to evolve, D.C. remains a focal point for discussions on the future of cannabis regulation in the United States.

Cannabis, also known as marijuana, is a genus of flowering plants in the Cannabaceae family. It is indigenous to Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent, but it is now cultivated and grown in various parts of the world. Cannabis plants have been used for thousands of years for different purposes, including medicinal, spiritual, industrial, and recreational uses.
The two main species of cannabis are Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica, with hybrids also commonly found. These plants have distinct characteristics and can exhibit different growth patterns, appearances, and chemical compositions.
Cannabis contains a range of chemical compounds known as cannabinoids, the most well-known being delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis, while CBD does not produce psychoactive effects but may have potential therapeutic benefits.
Cannabis can be consumed in various forms, including dried flowers (commonly known as buds), hashish (concentrated resin), and cannabis oil. It can be smoked, vaporized, or ingested orally in the form of edibles, tinctures, or capsules. The method of consumption determines how the cannabinoids are absorbed into the body and how quickly the effects are felt.
The effects of cannabis can vary depending on factors such as the strain, THC and CBD content, dosage, method of consumption, and individual differences. Common effects include relaxation, euphoria, altered perception of time and space, increased sociability, and potential cognitive and sensory alterations. However, it's important to note that cannabis affects individuals differently, and some people may experience negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, or impaired coordination.
In recent years, there has been growing interest in the potential medicinal uses of cannabis. Some studies suggest that cannabinoids, particularly CBD, may have therapeutic benefits for conditions such as chronic pain, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, anxiety, and nausea associated with chemotherapy. However, further research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of cannabis for medical purposes.
It's important to consider the legal status of cannabis in your jurisdiction, as laws and regulations vary widely around the world. While some countries and states have legalized cannabis for medical and/or recreational use, others still classify it as an illegal substance. It's crucial to be aware of and comply with the laws in your specific area.
As with any substance, responsible use, moderation, and informed decision-making are important. If you have questions or concerns about cannabis use, it's recommended to seek advice from healthcare professionals or organizations specializing in substance use and mental health.

CBG, CBD, CBC, CBN, and THCV
The Healing Cannabinoids
If you read my piece on the entourage effect, you know that I believe that THC is the ringmaster, but all the components of cannabis determine the “personality” of any given strain. Studies have proven the Entourage Effect with cannabinoids and terpenes. But these five cannabinoids are the major components that combine with THC to most affect your high as far as we know, as well your health and wellbeing.
Some cannabinoids, especially CBN and CBG, can bind directly to both the endocannabinoid system’s (ECS) CB1 and CB2 receptors, meaning they affect everything the ECS controls. These elements are all-important to the way any given cannabis strain or concoction affects you.
There are over 100 cannabinoids. We have no idea what most of them do, but the ones I selected are considered the most important.
CBG (cannabigerol) is the “Mother Cannabinoid” —THC, CBD, CBC, and CBN (and all other cannabinoids) began as CBG.
CBG’s anti-stress, anti-anxiety, and antidepressant effects are fantastic, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are numerous studies about CBG that indicate that it is as good as or better than CBD for pain, anxiety, inflammation, sleep disorders, etc. —all CBD’s effects but even better. It also provides better relief for sufferers of intestinal disorders, like IBS, GERD, and Crohn’s disease. We will have to wait and see everything CBG does, because the THC and CBD study focus has been taking the lion’s share of interest before now, but CBG is the rising superstar.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a cure-all kinda medicine that continues to show positive effects in more and more conditions all the time. I have a personal affinity for CBD + THC therapy, as it substantially healed two discs in my neck, and turned my degenerative disc disorder around. I still can have bouts of pain, but compared with living with hearing and feeling bone-on-bone grinding all day, every day? I’m in heaven. Another attribute of CBD, is that it’s a THC antagonist. That means it can inhibit and regulate the uptake of THC, and that has two great purposes. If you’re a beginner stoner. I always recommend everyone get a CBD vape whether you’re a beginner or an expert stoner. If you get too high, feel THC-induced anxiety, or panic, just a few puffs of CBD, and you’ll be relieved. But because CBD has all these great benefits of reducing tension, anxiety, and depression, one puff is just a great additive to any high. Antagonistic CBD also stretches THC’s effective period from 4 hours, to 6-8 hours during sleep.
CBC (cannabichromene) may be up to 10 times more potent than CBD for treating stress and anxiety and also has significant anti-inflammatory, pain-reducing, antiviral, anti-tumor, and bone-growth-stimulating properties. But the potential CBC has that excites me most, is that could be immensely useful in promoting the growth of new brain cells.
As an old fart with diminishing mental acuity, that’s obviously interesting to me.
CBN (cannabinol) is the first known cannabinoid, but one of the least-studied of these five, and is the only one that isn't derived directly from CBG, but it's what THC turns into when oxidized. Unlike CBG, CBD, and CBC, it’s mildly intoxicating. Like all these cannabinoids, it relieves pain and inflammation.
The best-known effect of CBN, is that it makes you sleepy. Anyone who’s ever smoked an old joint they found in a drawer might remember that it didn’t get them very high, but it made them ready for nappy time; that’s because much of the THC has degraded into CBN.
What excites me most about CBN, is that behaves like THC in many ways, and it has been found to bind with CB2 receptors. This ability may lead to new treatments for neuropathy (no treatment currently exists, and I suffer from neuropathic pain caused by sciatica), as CB2 receptors appear in inflamed areas in the body.
CBN therapies will be able to treat virtually any inflamed site, so it has the potential to address other areas that are difficult to treat, such as gastrointestinal system disorders like GERD, Chrons Disease, and diverticulitis.
CBN could be a true wonder drug.
THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) is another under-studied cannabinoid that’s attracting attention, for good reason.
THCV is a very effective appetite suppressant. It’s also the opposite of CBN, making people quite energetic. Being a bit tubby, I’m really excited by it. I’ve had a rare strain that contained THCV, and can attest to these properties.
But more excitement is to come from THCV, as it has shown to treat a lot of other diverse conditions, including Parkinson’s, psychosis, bacterial inflammation, acne, fatty liver disease, pain, and epilepsy.
I can’t wait to see what other benefits THCV has! Durban Poison is a common strain that contains high levels of THCV, but I’ve never had as good an effect from DP as I did the first (forgotten-named) high-THCV strain I tried.
Entourage Effect- all these cannabinoids work together in ways that increase their effectiveness when combined with THC, and can’t be recommended enough for ailments and moods your ECS controls. There aren’t any drawbacks, except you probably won’t want to ingest CBN until bedtime.
Any and all of these cannabinoids can be ingested individually a half hour before imbibing your favorite weed. THC don’t care where or how you get these into your system, but as always, these other cannabinoids work best with THC. There are vape pens with 50/50 CBD & CBG, but none that incorporate CBC or CBN that I’ve found, yet, but they gotta be out there.
I’m looking for a good supplier of isolates of these cannabinoids; pure, plant-derived organic powders. My intent is to mix them with honey and select terpenes to put into beverages. I’m going to make a daytime version with THCV, a nighttime version that includes CBN, and a neutral one with neither. When I find that supplier I’ll paste a link here, and I'll also let you know if my hypothesis that taking these cannabinoids orally, followed by consumption of THC products a short time later works effectively.
Remember: cannabinoids every day help keep the doctor away!

Introduction to Hemp-Derived THC Products:
In our last article, we learned to distinguish between over-the-counter, hemp-derived THC products and medical marijuana by understanding the 0.3% rule. This article delves deeper into how various cannabinoids become available from hemp and explores their effects.
Delta-6 THC:
Delta-6 THC is the most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, accounting for more than 40% of all cannabinoids. It offers a range of medicinal benefits, including anxiety and pain reduction. It constitutes a significant portion of cannabis-derived products and is known for its psychoactive effects and diverse biological activities, showing evidence of analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-anxiety, anti-nausea, neuroprotective, anticonvulsant and anti-depressant effects.
Delta-8 THC:
Delta-8 THC, a synthetically produced psychoactive cannabinoid, provides a milder high than delta-9 THC. Its consumption is explored as an alternative to delta-9 THC, and it is considered a milder alternative with fewer of the side effects (paranoia, hunger, fatigue) sometimes associated with THC use. It is medicinally beneficial in the same ways as other cannabinoids, but does not occur naturally in great quantities and so must be synthesized from other cannabinoids such as CBD.
Delta-9 THC:
The landscape of THC has evolved since the 2018 Farm Bill, with delta-9 THC subject to varying laws nationwide. It is one of the most commonly occurring cannabinoids, first discovered in the 1960’s and studied (and enjoyed) extensively since. Thanks to its abundance it requires a minimal amount of processing. Hemp-derived delta-9 THC, sourced from legal hemp plants, shares the same properties as THC from marijuana (as hemp and marijuana are both cannabis) but differs in the extraction process.
Delta-10 THC:
Delta-10 THC, an isomer of delta-9 THC, exists naturally in small quantities in cannabis plants and is often synthesized from hemp-derived CBD. Positioned in a legal grey area, it is reported to offer stimulating and uplifting effects with fewer chances of inducing anxiety. It is popular amongst students and professionals for its energizing and euphoric effects.
Delta-11 THC:
Delta-11 THC, a minor cannabinoid, is an isomer of delta-9 THC and is synthesized from cannabidiol (CBD). Users report intense euphoric feelings, heightened relaxation, and an elevated mood, making it a sought-after cannabinoid. It shares a commonality of effect and potency with Delta 10.
HHC:
Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC), a lesser-known THC relative, is produced from hemp-derived CBD in a lab. While not technically a THC, it produces very similar effects, and its unique advantages include enhanced stability and resistance to breakdown. Users report a euphoric, long-lasting high, beneficial for energy, focus and mood; with few of the side effects normally experienced alongside THC use. Interestingly, there is some evidence to suggest that HHC will not appear on traditional panel drug tests, as it does not metabolize in the same way THC does… But further study on the subject is necessary.
THCA:
THCA, the precursor to THC, is abundant in fresh cannabis plants and known for its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. It can be obtained by enjoying raw, organically produced cannabis in culinary products such as smoothies, fresh juices or salads. While non-psychoactive, it undergoes decarboxylation into THC, which means that heating THCA will convert it into THC, offering a potent high from smoking or vaping.
THCV/THCP/THCB:
THCV, a relatively rare compound, has effects such as appetite suppression and neuroprotection and is significantly more potent than THC alone. THCP, discovered in 2019, exhibits psychoactive potential surpassing THC by a significant margin. THCB, discovered alongside THCP, shows medicinal promise with analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, though further studies are needed on all three minor compounds
In Conclusion:
There are many benefits to hemp-derived cannabinoids and as the industry expands in response to demand, there are an abundance of products to choose from. It is crucial that consumers choose reputable retailers for their hemp-derived THC products, sourced responsibly from from quality manufacturers who can provide third-party lab results, ensuring transparency and product integrity. Here at Beyond Smoke, we pride ourselves on our merchandise quality and informed, educated customer service. Stop by for all your over-the-counter cannabis needs!

One of the best sources of quality cannabis is from British Columbia, or BC, where the climate and soil produce some of the finest cannabis in the world. Look for licensed growers and dispensaries in BC, and always check for proper licensing and certification from Health Canada.

For beginners, starting with small doses is crucial. Using a dab rig, which resembles a water pipe, is the common method for dabbing; however, there are other options, such as dab pens and electronic nails.
When it comes to selecting dabs and concentrates, there are numerous options available. Some popular types include shatter, wax, crumble, and oil.
It's important to note that dabbing may not be for everyone, and proper safety precautions should always be taken. Ensure that your dabbing setup is stable and secure and that you're in a well-ventilated area.
By keeping these tips in mind, you can safely and confidently explore the world of dabbing cannabis.
Ensuring Confidence in Your Cannabis Purchase
When it comes to purchasing cannabis, it's crucial to feel confident in your choices. To ensure a safe and satisfying experience, consider the following factors when choosing a cannabis store:
Product Quality: Look for a store that offers high-quality cannabis products from reputable suppliers. Check for lab testing and detailed product information to ensure you're getting a safe and desirable product.
Lab Testing: Make sure the cannabis you're purchasing has undergone third-party lab testing to ensure purity and potency. Reliable stores will often display this information on their website or in-store.
Customer Reviews: Check out customer reviews and ratings to get an idea of the store's overall reputation and product quality. Look for reviews from verified purchasers to ensure authenticity.
Reliable Sources: Only purchase cannabis from licensed and trustworthy sources to ensure your safety and legality. Check for a store's license number and credentials to verify their legitimacy.
By considering these factors, you can feel confident in your cannabis purchase and enjoy a positive experience. Don't settle for anything less than the best cannabis store to ensure your peace of mind.
The Benefits of Choosing Premium Cannabis
When it comes to cannabis, quality matters. Choosing premium cannabis products from a reputable cannabis store can have numerous advantages.
Firstly, premium cannabis is often grown using more advanced cultivation techniques, resulting in higher-quality strains with enhanced flavors, aromas, and potency. These strains may also contain higher levels of beneficial cannabinoids like CBD, which can have potential health benefits such as reducing inflammation, anxiety, and pain.
Additionally, premium cannabis stores typically offer a wider variety of strains and consumption methods, giving you more options to personalize your cannabis experience. Whether you prefer smoking, vaping, or edibles, there's a premium cannabis product to suit your preferences and needs.
Finally, purchasing from a reputable cannabis store ensures that you are getting a safe and high-quality product. Premium cannabis stores often engage in lab testing to ensure that their products are free from harmful substances and of the highest quality. This practice provides added peace of mind when it comes to the safety and efficacy of your cannabis purchase.

Is CBD Oil Safe and Worth Your Money?
A medical cannabis expert weeds the hype from the truth about the herbal cure for pain, depression, anxiety and insomnia.
You can’t turn on a daytime TV program or flip open a lifestyle magazine without hearing or reading about CBD, short for cannabidiol. It’s the biggest buzzword in holistic health news, and statistically speaking, it is expected to reach around 1.8 billion dollars in U.S. consumer sales by 2022, a whopping increase from around half a billion dollars in 2018.
What exactly is CBD?
CBD is the non-intoxicating component of the cannabis sativa plant. Cannabis plants can either be classified as hemp or marijuana depending on the quantity or percentage of THC in either plant. This distinction was established by the FDA: Cannabis plants with 0.3 percent or less of THC are considered hemp and those with more that 0.3 percent are consider marijuana.
So in a nutshell, CBD that is derived from hemp will not make you high. You should also ask your primary physician about using CBD while taking medications.
Kisha Vanterpool, medical director of Medicinally Jointed, a medical cannabis spa and alternate health practice located in South Philadelphia, says the biggest misconception her patients have is understanding the difference between CBD and THC.
“Some associate CBD solely with cannabis (marijuana) which carries its own stigma of being used to attain a high,” the board-certified internist explains. “But really, cannabis is an herbal medicine that has many benefits. Through educating my patients around the plant as medicine and how it interacts within our bodies, patients then become more open to its use.”
What is CBD used for?
Studies show consumers are using CBD — sold in oils, lotions, balms, bath salts, coffee, oral sprays and gummies — as a specific therapy for pain, anxiety, depression and sleep disorders. Depending on the product, prices range from $20 to $100.
Nira Hyman turned to CBD three years ago to help manage chronic back pain and joint inflammation she’s endured for about 15 years. The 46-year-old was recently diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, a type of rheumatoid arthritis called ankylosing spondylitis, which affects the spine.
“Chronic pain is quite isolating, so I’m open to trying almost anything. My research led me to THC, then to CBD. It helps mute the pain. It’s still there, but the volume of the pain is dialed down. CBD doesn’t manage my pain on its own, but using that along with other stuff on my regimen can make a difference,” she says.
“Most of what I use is handmade. It’s expensive but worth it. Friends ship balms or soaks to me. And yes, the sellers are Black. I believe strongly that Black women belong in the cannabis industry, so the louder our voices the better.”
The Brooklyn, New York, native also uses CBD to alleviate anxiety. “It may be a placebo effect, but I do feel it helps my anxiety. And I prefer using something that’s natural and naturally medicinal. I’d much rather take CBD — and I do use high doses — than opioids. My doctors agree, off the record,” says Hyman.
Vanterpool recommends CBD to her female patients to help them with anxiety, insomnia, hot flashes, menstrual cramps, endometriosis and other chronic pain. When shopping for CBD products, she suggests consumers research the product “to ensure that it truly contains CBD and has been tested for contaminants such as pesticides, bacteria and fungus/mold.”
Is CBD FDA-regulated?
Not currently. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently published a consumer update on its website (FDA.gov) that addresses the claims that cannabinoid (CBD) is a cure-all, risk-free miracle drug.
Although the FDA is presently gathering data from health professionals, cannabis industry representatives and patients to learn more about the efficacy of CBD, the agency wrote, "there are many unanswered questions about the science, safety and quality of products containing CBD.”
Where can I find CBD products in my area, and is it legal in all fifty states?
Remember the 69-year-old grandmother from North Carolina who was arrested at Disney World for packing CBD oil in her purse?
Federal law says CBD oil products are legal to possess if they contain no more than 0.3 percent THC, and CBD products are readily available online. Do your research to find products that are safe, effective and legal. Consumerreports.org has an informative guide. Be aware, however, that some states like Florida, Ohio and Texas generally don’t differentiate hemp from marijuana. So before you purchase or travel with CBD, check the state laws.
