Yesterday a big eruption, some magnitudes greater than on this picture, at stromboli caused a casualty. This was actually one of the shots I was after. Blue hour and a eruption from the main crater of stromboli. The lava illuminates the eruption Cloud nicely and increases the dramatic effect. After hiking up 2.5 hours with heavy backpacks, this is the view you get rewarded with. Depending on your timing of course ;) Stromboli has many craters at the moment, which can change in few years due to constant activity. This is a photograph from the first evening up there. Welcomed by the European type of weak tornado, the first day on stromboli started quite interesting. Fortunately the weather was moderate so the hike was doable for unfit people too. I'm back from Stromboli with amazing pictures and videos of eruptions. The excursion with the institute was just insane.
