Just wanted to share a drawing that I did because I was bored earlier and I wanted to finish it. And I thought you guys would enjoy it. So, I decided to post it here. Lol. -Mod Pencil ✏️

Something that I've noticed ever since the Smiling Critters were introduced is that they can so easily be paired off into complementary duos, ones that are specifically designed to teach children fundamental lessons about life and self-care from two different angles. It's really interesting to me.

Like obviously you have Dogday and Catnap, with their sun/moon, dog/cat dichotomy, that stress how important it is to have fun and get things done during the day, but also that it's important to wind down, relax, and get a good night's sleep.

Bubba Bubbaphant and Craftycorn were introduced as a duo in the Smiling Critter show's intro, and their dichotomy is quite obvious. They are basically the right and left sides of the brain personified. Bubba is the left side of the brain, logical, analytical, focused on math and science. Craftycorn is the right side of the brain, creative and imaginative, focused on the arts and self-expression. They represent learning and academia in all its forms, the different ways people engage with and understand the world.

Hoppy Hopscotch and Kickin' Chicken form the sportsmanship duo. They are both portrayed as enjoying sports and the outdoors, but in different ways that highlight the different ways sports can be played and enjoyed and also what it entails to be successful at them. Hoppy Hopscotch may be loud and impatient, but she is also a team player, shown in her willingness to slow down her fast pace to make sure none of her friends are left behind. Kickin' Chicken, on the other hand, is laid-back, relaxed, and chill, the described "cool kid" of the group, but he's also described as having a ton of perseverance, more of a "slow and steady wins the race" type of person.

This leaves Bobby Bearhug and Picky Piggy as the last pair. Fittingly, these two are all about how to meet the fundamental needs of yourself and others. Bobby teaches children how to nourish themselves emotionally through showing and receiving care from others, while Picky teaches them how good food is important to nourish the body and soul. Depriving oneself of either of these things only makes oneself and therefore everyone around one miserable, because those fundamental needs are no longer being met.

Like fr, this is some pretty genius marketing right here. You have enough characters that every kid will have their favorite, but not so many that any would get lost in the shuffle, because the lessons each one of them would teach would be integral to the group as a whole. It really makes me that much sadder we saw basically nothing of the Smiling Critters during the game itself, because Mob Games struck gold with this concept, only to ultimately do nothing with it. :/

But I guess that's what fandom is for, eh?

Designer’s notes

Dogday’s planet, Soleana, is a very arid and warm planet with beaches, their clothes are essentially meant to keep them fresh but also protecting them from the hot sun they worship.

Catnap’s planet, Lunaris, is a planet with many moons and in perpetual darkness, because of it, they often wear clothes made of cotton, meant to be comfortable and easy to sleep on, as you can see, the citizens of Lunaris are perpetually sleepy.

Hoppy’s planet, Relanpago, is a planet buzzing with electricity and life, however the citizens are naturally immune to the electrical currents of the planet.

Crafty’s planet, Prismascope, is a planet filled with colors, and because of it, it is natural for the citizen’s outfits to be darker, allowing embroideries, flowers, or other jewelries to really shine through.

Picky’s planet, Colheita, is a planet known for its boundless agriculture and culinary wonders, the leading planet in culinary cultures across the galaxies. They wear easily washable clothes as sometimes cooking can be messy.

Bubba’s planet, Padma, is a planet known for its leading technological and intelligence advances. Their national flower, the Lotus, is shown everywhere, including clothes and even tattoos. Inhabitants with said Lotus tattoos are known to have been blessed by the goddess they worship.

Kickin’s planet, Pyroma, is a planet that thrives with their ring of fires, because of it, their clothes often reflect the fiery colors of a volcano. They’re also fire resistant.

Bobby’s planet, Corazon, is a planet of eternal spring, so inhabitant often wear comfortable and loose outfits.

Soooo I was sucked into Poppy Playtime again because of these goobers!! I don’t think I’ve ever posted Poppy Playtime stuff on here before, buttt I think I will now, I just wish the fandom was a bit bigger and more lively lmao 🤣

Catnap is my #1 favorite, then DogDay, then KC, and then Hoppy! I love the others too, but Bubba and Crafty are so hard to draw atm. I just need to practice more with them!😓

Some headcannons in the show universe cause I’m feeling fun:

- Catnap is the youngest! DogDay is the oldest of the crew! Their age order goes (oldest to youngest) DogDay, Bubba, Picky, Kickin, Crafty, Bobby, Hoppy, Catnap!

- Catnap doesn’t talk much, but he can. Just with a low voice that tends to be calming, and very sweet sounding. He usually just points, says short answers like yes or no, and nods.

- While Kickin (or KC) is the most egocentric and confident, Hoppy is the most energetic and tends to like talking people’s heads off, which causes them to butt heads at times, all while Picky tends to be the usual third wheel, often just quietly eating.

- Crafty is the most creative while Bubba is the most thoughtful and intelligent, which usually allows them to have deep, meaningful conversations of the wonders of life together.

-Crafty is the shyest out of the bunch, usually drawing with Catnap calmly, sharing her creations with him or hanging out with Bubba.

- Bobby and Picky tend to share their love for the world together, usually playing dress up with each other, talking about crushes. or cooking of course! Bobby always has something lovely to share and Picky, in contrast to her name, always is open to trying something new, as long as she thinks she may like it.

- In contrast to the canon, all of the crew just magically woke up in the Playcare, with no memories of before they opened their eyes to the colorful world around them. DogDay and Bubba were the first to appear, Picky, Crafty and Kickin spawning after, Bobby and Hoppy spawning together and Catnap spawning alone. There seems to be no way out, so the crew just embraces their situation and tries their best to not think about it too much.

- Catnap was the last and most unexpected to spawn in. From the time he opened his eyes to the new world around him, he had felt like something was off, like he didn’t belong there. While most of the others treated him nice, some of the crew were uneasy about his sudden appearance, seemingly years after the last of the previous arrivals had spawned in.

- Catnap begins to grow close to DogDay, almost becoming like his little brother. They spend the most time together, due to DDs kindness and warm welcoming energy towards him on his arrival! Also them both noticing they wore opposite necklaces, Cat being the moon and DD being the sun helped with that connection too!

- Kickin doesn’t really like or trust Catnap much, and doesn’t try to hide it, making snarky remarks and comments to clearly express his dislike for him.

- Catnap is super playful with the others, his best friends being Dog Day, Hoppy and Crafty! He tends to move like a ghost, the crew not usually noticing they are in his presence until they turn around! A lot of times, he hangs by his tail on the trees to say hello, or can be found in the fields laying in the grass and sleeping.

- Cat can sleep anywhere that is a surface, and is not wet.

- Every once and while, Cat swears he can see a skinny, metallic hand in the shadows, beckoning his attention. He’s tried to bring it up to the others, but they either think he’s acting weird, insane, or tell him not to worry about it.

Dance with the Moon

I don't normally draw this sort of thing but like I said before, I think it would be interesting with these two as a duo regardless of being friends or more.

In this case, you can consider this a more romantic view of it.

I see people point out about Hoppy's cardboard cutout voice lines and how it's moon related which has relation to Catnap. Some argue that this relation might prove that Catnap had involvement in her death(and so does Bobby as she too mentions the moon) which might very well be the case but the way Hoppy's voicelines seems to function is that she's not running away but trying to reach for the moon, trying to get to it.

It strikes me as interesting though about subtle connections the two characters might have for example the moon and Hoppy's desire to jump to it but ultimately dies failing to reach it. The moon could potentially represent Catnap as his charm is literary a crescent moon, it's what he specifically is associated with as well as sleep. Another thing about this is not only Hoppy is trying to reach for the moon but in the show itself(teacher/cartoon for Catnap and the Smiling Critters show), Catnap appears through a storm and what's Hoppy's charm? A lightning bolt. Then in Sleep Well, we see a Hoppy toy looking up at Catnap and Catnap reaches an arm out to help which is odd based on the chosen smiling critter that it could've been displayed(though they could've just randomly selected one). Lastly, although Catnap and Dogday are meant to be polar opposites with the sun and moon, Catnap and Hoppy are opposites in their own ways as well. Catnap represents sleep and rest while Hoppy represents energy and play.

Now back to the actual image instead of possibly(if not probably) overanalyzing certain details. I tried a different approach in drawing this with a more sketched line art for Catnap and Hoppy mixed with slight color alterations and low shading. For the background I did a mix of a cartoony yet vibrant night sky with a more "galaxy" look. For the dashes throughout the background, that sort of background was based off another artist with a cool background artstyle.

Overall, it was just fun to make though being different.

Bubba - Books, Bubba's ultimate comfort object is books. There's nothing he loves more than snuggling down into a comfy place, like a beanbag in his library or under the shade of the tree. he can just open his book and slip into another world for awhile, his favorite books are books about space

Kickin - He has a little teddy bear from when he was a kid. In the cartoon I could see him taking it on overnight trips and camping episodes, in true kids cartoon fashion I imagine that the teddy talks to him but only he can hear it, only the teddy bear flops when someone comes in (like in Doc mcstuffins).

Catnap - Almost everything in his room can count as his comfort objects. but i think anything on his bed fits the bill more, his blanket, his pillows, the fact that his bed is shaped like a crescent moon (yes this is an actual thing and they're baby cradles but they're cute and they fit Catnap so-) second would be his mobile or his stuffed lion

Hoppy - Her soccer ball, nothing detresses her more than a good old game of soccer. She used to try and play soccer with her little siblings but they were never interested.

Bobby - Bobby's entire house is filled with heart motives and positive messages but if I were to pick a comfort object for her, I'd say a heart pillow that she sleeps on every on every night.

Dogday - Despite the implications that comes with it I feel like Dogday likes wearing dog collars. Maybe it gives him a sense of belonging or safety

Craftycorn - she seems like the type that collects rare art supplies and never uses them cause she likes admiring them, that being said I could see her taking comfort in old crayola colors like "Dandelion" or "Bluetiful"

Picky - I'm actually stumped on what her comfort item would be so my basic answer is her baby blanket or a bib that looks just like one she had as a baby

Smiling Critters Dates ( Head canon ) Part I.

It's obvious who's my favorite one 🧍‍♀️....

DOGDAY ( 🐶☀️ )

- He plans the dates, every time. At points where you now try to plan them but he always beats you to it

- But today, you managed to beat him, you my dear reader, and had managed to finally plan a date! ( He was shocked )

- It was a simple date, a picnic date where you brought a frisbee and teenies ball. You see, Dogday likes to play fetch. So you brought them

- He was happy as well. You managed to plan a date before him AND play fetch with him!

- Rest of the day, you both spent it by playlist fetch, laughing, talking, and eating. At the end of the day, he took you to his place. At first you didn't know why... But you weren't complaining because the both of you ended up cuddling " As a reward for beating me to plan a date " he said.

- Honestly, all in all, the date went great! And now you both are just cuddling. Yay!!

As the Dog and the Sheep made their way to the dogs house, the dog pauses “ Hey, (name) ” He said the sheep's name, who turns to look at him “ Yes Dogday? ” They asked with a small smile. Dogday smiles back before hugging them, they chuckle as they return the hug back “ Thank you, for everything. ” He mutters “ Any time, Sun. ”

CATNAP ( 🐱🌙 )

- You plan the dates :3

- You planned on sleeping dates, it would be planned in your house. You had set everything up in there ( Like changing the bedsheets and blankets, to leaving the aircon on so it would be nice and cold )

- You think he loves it, which is bonus points for you, the real points is when the both of you got comfy in bed and you pet his head, and he begins to purr, that's the best.

- The rest of the day you spent it sleeping and reading stories with or for him. You didn't mind it though it was the best.

- The date went lovely... The question is... How are you doing to make him leave the comfortable bed of yours?

- Here's your answer, you can't.

“ Catnapp ” The sheep wines as they try to get their partner off them “ I need to get up ” They tried to reason, the only response to that was purring. After a few minutes they gave up with a defeated sigh “ fine... ” They mutter, Catnap chuckles in victory.

- The both of you take turns making dates

- Today, it was your turn. And you planned to go on those swan boats! She loved it, kissing you all over your face before giving you her best bear hugs!

- The both of you pedaled around the lake taking in the scene and taking pictures ( mostly of you because you are the scene ✨ )  and asking questions, some personal, some silly.

- The rest of the day you both pedaled around the lake, went out for ice cream afterwards and got to know each other more than before!

- The date was the best and the most lovely, you were the one who brought her to her home. You had dinner in her place :3

“ Let's do that again another time! ” The bear suggested, placing the plates in front of the sheep, who giggled in response “ Sure! I don't mind ” She gave them her best bear hug after that.

- Today, the both of you gone to your house. Reason why? " My house is the closest to the sky " you said, this left them confused. Until they finally got to your house and saw the telescope. They were jumping up and down in joy!

- You taught them about the planets and stars that day, the facts and stories behind them. I'm pretty sure the both of you just read and told each other the things you knew about the moon.. it was nice though!!

- They didn't go back home because it was already dark. So they stayed with you in your room until the morning. You both ended up staying up until 3 am ( 💀 )

- You both had dinner and ate moon cakes! ( Made by you obviously. )

“ Thank you for telling me about the moon, (name)! ” Hoppy said as they held the sheep's hooves “ Haha, anything for my moon lover. ” The sheep teased before placing a kiss on the rabbits cheek, their grin widens “ One day, I'll bring you to the moon with me ” “ I can imagine that. ”

• There's been quite a few times where Catnap has almost drowned because he fell asleep at the bathtub

• He'll often have vicious nightmares about killing his friends in brutal ways

• Sometimes Dogday will comfort him after having one of his awful nightmares

• He's been having a really weird dream where, this giant metal hand is coming out of the sky and calling itself "The Prototype" tells him that they will "save" Catnap

• He likes to crochet with Bobby

(because if you do he will act WAY more energetic and hyper than Hoppy)

• His favorite color is Midnight Blue

• He used to not have a favorite color, until one day when Bobby guessed his favorite color was Midnight Blue and ever since, he never saw Midnight Blue the same. Now he constantly sees it everywhere he goes

• He's a big fan of Astrology

• He's very flexible and double jointed

• He's able to spin his head around at 360° without snapping it and dying (he was born with extra joints in his neck)

• He likes to do a creepy spider crawl to scare his friends (especially if they're having a sleepover)

• He's not afraid to scratch you if you bother him during his naptime

• 90% of the time Hoppy will accidentally wake him up during one of his naptimes

• There's been a lot of times where Hoppy has accidentally stepped on Catnap's tail because she got too excited

• He's not crazy for physical affection however, he doesn't mind if you give him a hug or a kiss on the cheek

• One time at a sleepover, Kickin woke up at 2:30 AM only to find Catnap holding a large, sharp, kitchen knife right above his chest. It turned out he was sleepwalking again

• Every time Catnap watches a horror movie he'll smile whenever the killer catches their victim (the others will just stare at him with weird and disturbed looks)

• He likes to watch Bubba work on his experiments

• He likes to watch Kickin surf and he likes to watch Crafty paint or draw

• He used to suffer with insomnia when he was younger

• Sometimes he has trouble reading other people's facial expressions

• He doesn't really cry that often (it's not that he's afraid of crying he's just doesn't cry that often)

• When he's sad, he'll wrap his tail around his body and sit in the corner of the room while softly crying to himself

• After he realized that he was in love with Bobby he started avoiding her because he didn't want awkward tension between them and he didn't want to embarrass himself every time he was around them (Bobby thought that Catnap didn't want to hang out with them anymore because he didn't like them anymore.. which made them really sad)

• Whenever he's thinking about Bobby, his tail will into a heart

• He likes to braid Crafty's hair and put a pretty flower in it

Alright so I R E A L L Y wanna talk about how I think the Smiling Critters perished in Poppy Playtime

Bubba Bubbaphant

"I'm Bubba Bubbaphant! ...Hey! I remember you!" "An elephant always remembers!" "Want to know what I remember about you...?" This character is pretty much the nerd emoji of the Smiling Critters. He's really smart, and, as he stated in his cardboard cut-out dialogue, has a really good memory. Although I can't really see that being put into play of his actual death, I can see that this last bit of information he stated (before just spiraling out of control) can be connected to our character. (Our character is an ex-worker and is always greeted with distain by the major antagonists, which leads me to believe that we have actively, or at least indirectly, participated in the child/worker experimentation/conversion based on what Bubba says. Although in his last bit of "dialogue", he's screaming quite loudly as if he was in major agony, but also laughing, as if he was ingesting something that caused great harm to his mentality and body, but since he's had it so many times before to the point where he actively begs to have more, it's agonizing, but also "heavenly." Therefore I think his cause of death would be due to him trying to escape during The Hour of Joy, but was eventually caught by CatNap and his use of The Red Smoke. In the Smiling Critters cartoon, all the critters are struggling to go to sleep because of how scared they were of the storm outside. However, once CatNap enters, they all practically light up with such disturbing happiness. Bubba is the first one to beg him to "help them go to sleep". Fast forward to The Hour of Joy, CatNap must've used his addiction against him to keep him sorta in place so he could kill him.

KickenChicken

"Hey! I'm KickenChicken! Wanna go outside and hang out?" "It's lookin' pretty rad outside!" "I've...never been outside before..." "Will you come with me? I'm scared..." "Here, follow me. I-I'll step out first..." Here, I used to think that he had barricaded himself along with some of the other critters somewhere safe inside the Playcare during The Hour of Joy, and he decided to step outside once all the humans were finally killed. Once he did, CatNap found him and killed him for his disobedience towards his god. But a recent theory sorta convinced me otherwise. I still believe in my own theory, but I also support the fact that KickenChicken could've also been one of the first toys to reach an exit to the outside world. But, once he and the other critter tried to step outside, he got killed by the Prototype.

Picky Piggy

"Hi there! I'm Picky Piggy! Let's eat!" "Roast beef? Delicious!" "Grilled chicken? Down the hatch!" "Seared elephant? Yum!" "Flayed unicorn? Mmm!" "Still hungry... Hey, what do you say you and I be friends?" (This one actually scares the hell out of me, i love it) And it's pretty obvious too, for the most part. I believe that Picky was separated by the other critters during The Hour of Joy, and ended up with nothing to eat for a long time. She ended up wandering aimlessly throughout the factory and eventually came across the corpses of her dead friends. Saddened, but desperate for food, she ate her friends' corpses as soon as she came along them, but all that effort soon went to waste as she eventually died of starvation, a constant theme throughout Poppy Playtime.

Hoppy Hopscotch

"I'm Hoppy Hopscotch! Wanna try hopping to the moon with me?" "On three with me! One... two... three! ...Heh, didn't get very far, did we?" "Again! One, two, three! Nope... still didn't make it." "Listen! This won't stop until we make it to the moon!" "One, two- No, no! Don't look at your feet! None of that matters! Again! Again!" "JUMP! JUUUU-" Yeah this one just makes me really sad, seeing how I think her death most likely would be accidental suicide. In an attempt to escape CatNap or The Prototype or another toy that was hunting them down for food, or maybe just trying to reach somewhere that lead to an exit, she encouraged her friend(s) to jump towards freedom, but due to her impulsive/impatient tendencies, she didn't think it through and ended up falling to her death.

Bobby Bearhug

"Hi! I'm Bobby Bearhug! Wanna know how much I love you?" "I love you to the moooon and back!" "I'm crazy about you." "I'm lost without you." "I've been lost a long time..." "Please, take me with you this time...!" "You won't leave me, will you??" Bobby loves everyone and everything, unconditionally. So, when The Hour of Joy occurred, she naturally felt terrified and wanted to stick close by with her friends as they tried to find a way out of the factory after that day. This might also be in relation to DogDay and Picky as well. DogDay probably shooed them away in attempt to save them from CatNap, and while the massacre occurred, Picky got lost during all the chaos. Them being her friends, she was greatly distraught by this, but soon forced herself to go along with who was left. That was when she probably witness some of their deaths: Bobby being lured by the Red Smoke and eventually killed, Kicken getting killed by either CatNap or The Protoype, Hoppy falling to her death, being scared away by CraftyCorn (I'll get to her later).

"Take me with you this time!" I believe this line was spawned from DogDay's actions. Since he was the leader of their group, she, along with the other critters, looked up to him. Perhaps Bobby believed if he has taken all of them with him, she wouldn't have ended up all alone. She eventually ended up all alone, turned to madness by loneliness as she always thought about the events that made her friends leave her. After a long time of wandering and losing hope, bit by bit as each day passed, she died of starvation.

CraftyCorn

"H-Hi, I'm CraftyCorn. Will you help me with my painting? Pass me the blue, please!" "Thanks! Now, will you give me some red?" "More red, please!" "Out...? But, w-we can't be out." "You're hiding more red from me... I know you are..." "GIVE IT HERE!" "There, now that's much better!" Despite CraftyCorn's established gentle and caring personality, both would be thrown away for the sake of keeping her creative juices flowing. She always loves everything artistic, so she also most likely uses it as a coping mechanism (and that's also seen in the Smiling Critter's cartoon, where CraftyCorn is drawing on multiple pages while still being scared of the storm outside). I believe she also witnessed some of her friends' deaths along with Bobby Bearhug, and, as her way of coping, she just tries drawing and drawing and painting and painting her worries away. But while her urges to cope may last, drawing materials do not for long, and she eventually runs out. This causes her to turn to panic, as she thinks she'll have to finally face reality that her friends are gone, but she's not ready, so she desperately tires to find more art materials, mostly the color red (because that's the most of what she's been seeing since The Hour of Joy). So, in a blind, maddened dismay, she attacks her friends and uses their blood for painting, piling on unimaginable guilt for hurting her friends, the very thing she was trying not to make herself realize.

Now as for her death. Her remaining friend(s) probably ended up leaving her for the sake of their own safety. She doesn't realize this, because again, she's so deep in her own distractions that she's lost touch with reality, until she finally runs out of red again. She desperately tries to find more, but can't extract any from an outside source. So she uses her own blood as paint. She extracts her blood, runs out, extracts again, runs out again, extracts again, runs out again, over and over until she finally harms herself to the point of dying from blood loss.

DogDay

"DogDay says... fetch!" "Go, go! As far as you can!" "Why are you...just standing there?" "You can't be here. You can't stay..." As I said earlier, DogDay must have helped his friends escape from CatNap's hunting ground and the main killing areas during The Hour of Joy. He realizes that CatNap holds a burning rage for him and his friends for not going along with The Prototypes control, and drives them out somewhere where he thinks they'll be safe. But he then told them that he couldn't go with them, because as the leader of the Smiling Critters, and holding a deep love for his friends, he felt the need to sacrifice himself so they can be safe.

Once they were away, he goes and finds CatNap. Since I believe that DogDay was once a worker for Playtime Co., I don't think he remembers his past. Therefore, he truly believes that he is DogDay, and that the Smiling Critters, including CatNap, have been friends for a lifetime. He believes that his friend is still in there, not seeing the fact that CatNap remembers exactly who he is and how he became this way, including why he worships The Prototype. DogDay tries to convince CatNap to remember all the good times they had (even though, with the Big Bodies version of the cast, CatNap was particularly distant from the rest of the Smiling Critters, since I assume they're also workers). Of course, this doesn't work, and CatNap attempts to kill him.

However, I believe that DogDay had escaped and went to look for his friends once he was at a safe distance. But this is FAR after the events of his friends' deaths, so one by one he comes across his friends' corpses, personally seeing the horrors of after The Hour of Joy "I'm...the last of the Smiling Critters...." (what he says before his own death)

After years of losing so much hope, seeing that none of his friends survived the horrors of the factory, DogDay doesn't see the point in trying to escape. If his friends didn't make it, what was the point? And, during his most vulnerable, this is how CatNap eventually ends up finding him. He gained some sick pleasure into see this heretic suffer, but he felt that he needed more misery, by kidnapping him and torturing him by cutting off his legs and feeding them to the mini critters, and stringing him up in the prison where he's slowly eaten by The Prototype's worshippers.

Still, he holds onto what sanity he has left from his interactions with Poppy (who I believe he ran into while he was wandering the Factory), and believed that an angel will bring them salvation.

Personas of The Smiling Critters

Please note, this is based off of legends and myths from stuff I understand from it, so if I get anything wrong...I am just misinformed about it and really apologize for it.

Dogday - He is, of course is the wild card, but his first persona is Prometheus, the god that stole fire for us mortals, only to be punished by being chained to a rock and getting his liver ate everyday.

Resistance to Fire, but weak to Lightening

Kickin - At one point, Kickin went through great lengths of punishment and grief when a loved one got hurt, much like Orpheus. Orpheus braved the depths of the underworld for his partner, only for the underworld to snatch hope away from him as a result of the deal Hades made with him

Expertise: Physical attacks (High physical, low magic stats)

Resistance to Thunder, weak to Ice

Weapon of choice: Clubs

Hoppy - When one wishes to jump to the moon, you must be careful not to go too far, as Daedalus knows. Daedalus crafted wax wings for him and his son to escape from captivity, but when Icarus flew too close to the sun, and fell to his death, out of grief, he sacrificed his wax wings and ability to fly to Apollo.

Bubba - Bubba's desire for knowledge has called Odin to him. Odin seemed wisdom, and on his quest, was given the chance by Mimir for divine wisdom, but at a cost. Odin preceded to gouged his eye out, dropped into the well, and drink from it to gain wisdom.

Catnap - Sleep will always come to an end when the sun arises, something Tyr knows well. When Fenrir, the wolf that would someday swallow the sun, was bound by the gods, he bites down on Tyr's hand upon realizing this fate.

Picky - How much would you give to help someone you love? In Sim Cheong's case, in order to help her father and restore his sight, she threw herself into the sea. However, the Filial Piety touched the dragon king and allowed her to come back within a lotus flower.

Bobby - How much punishment would you take for something? Marina knows that they would take lots of punishment for it. Marina, masquerading as a man, was accused of seducing an Inn Keeper's daughter and giving her a kid. Instead of telling the truth, she allowed herself to be banished instead and took care of the kid as her own, the truth only becoming clear upon her passing.

Crafty - The lovely art maker's persona would be the Egyptian Queen Berenice. She prayed to Aphrodite that she would cut her beautiful hair if her husband returned safely from war. She up kept her end of the bargain, and the gods honored it by putting it in the sky as a homage.

Dogday's favorite thing is the yard, absolutely the yard. He loves running around. He gets the zoomies a lot.

Catnap sleeps in comfier places and when he isn't sleeping, he's playing with the minis. Sunny and Moon are a hand full when they're hyper.

Bubba's gotten a few new obsessions, namely the Alien franchise.

Picky's cooking all the time and everything she can get her hands on. When she's not doing that, she's usually working a small garden she's started.

Crafty and Bobby tend to spend time together, usually in their room. They've picked up various hobbies. Knitting, crocheting, painting. The coloring books are their favorites.

Hoppy and Kickin are usually outside doing something. When it's raining, they're inside playing their Switch. Mario Kart is their favorite thing and Hoppy always wins.

Red Smoke: Like his canon self; Catnap is able to emit a powerful red gas from his mouth, making anyone in its vicinity to fall asleep.

Dream and Sleep Magic: Coming from his birthplace, the Somnus Realm Catnap is able to do sleep and dream related magic in contingent with his Red Gas. He can manipulate others’ dreams to what he wants, dreamwalk into other dreams and is also able to predict future events in his own dreams. Despite this; his training is rather limited, due to being locked out of his birthplace since he was a child and can’t properly control his precognitive dreaming.

Headcanons (More to come soon):

Personality wise, Catnap is very passive, quiet and very sleepy-eyed. He used to be more anxious and rather feisty when he was younger. At certain times during the day, he enjoys playing pranks on his friends at times and loves teasing his best friend Dogday, which increased even more when the two finally started dating each other. Despite his somewhat distant and aloof attitude and appearance, he cares greatly for his friends; especially Dogday whom he known since childhood and believes he can’t exist without in the world.

Unlike the other Smiling Critters, Catnap hails from the Somnus Realm (Somnus means sleep.) where the other beings like him are in charge of granting sleep and dreams to the living realm below. However he was constantly alone due being the only orphan and also being extremely shy and anxious , keeping to himself and either playing or hugging his crescent moon harp that was found with him, since he was a baby kitten. Until after an incredibly vivid nightmare of a strange metal claw, he woke up to find himself lost on the Living Realm and unable to go home ever since, with his harp being the only thing he has left of his birthplace.

He doesn’t remember his family or why he became an orphan in the first place. Nowadays he considers the other Smiling Critters the closest thing he’s got to a family, except for Dogday due to feeling something more than a platonic love.

Has known DogDay since he was seven years old. It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for the two of them as Catnap had just found himself lost on the Living Realm and Dogday was just abandoned by his family for being the “useless runt of the litter”. It was a little awkward and tense when the two first met but managed to bond over finding common ground over being orphans and ended up sticking together, wandering the vast world before coming to Critters Valley and meeting the other Smiling Critters.

Aside from playing his harp as a way to relax, he also enjoys knitting and is often seen doing it in his house. Most of his clothes, blankets , scarves and pillows are all made by his own hands and enjoys making them lavender scented when possible. He is also the one to knit Dogday’s hoodie coat and his purple bandanna.

Is very lazy and prefers to stay indoors lying down, napping and staying in his pyjamas. But when he does go outside, he merely throws on his purple off shoulder sweater over his pyjama top and changes his pants. He also doesn’t like shoes but mostly wears them due to DogDay worrying that he’ll hurt himself going out barefooted.

Dreams about future events every now and then. Initially it was about his friends like PickyPiggy getting covered in flour or Hoppy Hopscotch or Kickin Chicken getting hurt from one of their usual activities, but has been having frequent nightmares about the same metal claw he’s seen since he was seven and a lanky, malnourished and messed up version of him. DogDay is the only one he confides in the most about them, but doesn’t give a lot of details.

Sweet dreams are made of screams: a Catnap Fanfic.

Trigger Warning:Blood mention,implied suicide,psychological horror,implied torture,revenge.

All he wanted was to fall asleep... to close his eyes and disappear, just like a feather on a wing, like a candle about to burn out.

He simply wanted to stop hearing that damned dog call his name, simply watch as those creatures he was born with were taken from his life. He wanted to tear out their voices, let his rage die, and lie there on his cradle of moonlight, resting well.

And maybe... die later.

Let heaven and earth be stained with poppy red, and his vision turn to pale lilac, to die silently at the claws of his master and almighty god. For the purple feline, it would be a one-way ticket, far from that damned hell he once, in his now-lost childhood, considered home. Playtime Co. was nothing more than a nauseating, repellent prison. Adults saw the buildings and heard laughter, but the poor tortured souls like him only heard cries.

During the day, Catnap played with the children like a circus bear, trapped in an artificial facade alongside his companions and those odious smiling anomalies that to him were nothing more than freakish intrusions on his peace.

His hatred for that damned mangy dog and the rest of those colorful animals had become the reason for his obsession. They didn't want him. He knew that to Bobby Bearhug, Hoppy Hopscotch, Kicken Chicken, Bubba Bubbaphant, Craftycorn, and Picky Piggy, he was just a weakling who should never be awakened.

When Theo was still there, he could hear it—a voice in his head that promised him love, mercy, and protection. The doctors in the factory thought he was delusional, maybe just an imaginary friend. It had told him it was like those superior beings in which adults and other children believed, a prototype of God. No body, no light.

He trembled when it spoke, assuring him that he would feel nothing once he fell.

Now that he was that creature with the eternal smile, nothing could wake him.

Sweet dreams were what Catnap lived for, his furry body curled up on that golden moon that hung from the ceiling, just like his purple tail. His eyes remained closed, the bones of his spine embedded in his thin back rising and falling as he tried to sleep. Sweet dreams for him were made of screams, of the pleas of those employees in white coats who destroyed his body and with millions of needles, broke his bones and stitched him together into that hideous circus freak. It was the only thing he thought about when the sun set and the night crept in through the glass roof above the nursery. The cries and screams of those dreaming orphans were his lullaby.

Sometimes, when he started to snore, he could hear his God, his leader, speaking to him, assuring him that everything would end, that he just had to obey, just had to wait. Soon, he would give the order, and with the others, they would start an unrivaled feast, a revenge for all those tears and for that day when they stole his humanity. And under his command, Catnap would lead them.

However, that night, those smiling friends didn't seem interested in closing their eyes and sleeping. From his bed inside the waning moon, his ears could catch Dogday leading the pack in laughter as they rolled on the ground to play. He tried to ignore them and let himself be carried away by the darkness, but it didn't work. They were starting to drive him mad.

Slowly, he stretched out his thin paws, and his claws began to tear at the sheets. He suddenly jumped to the ground, and once there, he let out muffled meows. He started to walk toward where the smiling creatures were, who were enjoying the night so much they didn't notice his presence. The blonde teacher and one of her many sisters were sitting on a bench, resting from grading papers. As they ate a cheesecake made by their own students in another sister's cooking class, Miss Delight froze when she saw the feline pass by without noticing her or her sister. She could hear his cold growl as he headed toward his prey, which only made her drop everything, grab the other teacher by the arm, and rush into the school as fast as possible.

On the small hill, the red bear and the pink pig were tickling each other, scratching unintentionally as they tumbled over one another. It was nothing but laughter and fun, a perfect moment to release the stress after a day of work. But that session of joy ended abruptly when their bodies were covered by a dark and menacing shadow. The two looked up, feeling whatever they had in their chests sink deep. The rest of the creatures turned to see, their smiles withering. They called his name, but when they got no response, they began to beg for forgiveness and mercy for interrupting his nap. Now there was only terror. DogDay remained still as he watched his old friend there.

Picky Piggy got up as best she could and ran off to join the other smiling creatures... Bobby, however, as she tried to stand and run too, felt thick, sharp claws pierce her leg and pull her toward the purple feline. Warm dark crimson spilled onto the grass, a tiny, sharp whimper escaping the bear's lips as she now crawled like a worm on the ground, silently pleading for her freedom with tears.

Catnap looked at his dear colleagues for a moment before using his other claws to grab the bear's head and lift her, bringing her closer before a thick cloud of red smoke came out of her abuser's mouth, and all that was left were the desperate cackles that ended in screams.

If the employees passed by that path, they might find him resting comfortably among the bodies of the smiling creatures, who, by giving him peace to sleep, now found themselves in their dreams, crying in horror as they faced their most terrifying nightmares.
