Louis is such a Catholic good girl btw. Gets courted by a wealthy gentleman for months before they even kiss. Married in a church. Gets himself a precious baby daughter because he’s been dreaming of that perfect family since he was a little girl. Loyal to his man not even multiple deaths can separate them. Says Hail Mary like fifty billion times to cancel out the anal sex he keeps pretending he didn’t enjoy but also calls that dick his personal black tar heroin. Gonna lie to everybody he meets including himself. Feels guilt for a century about things that weren’t his fault but also kinda doesn’t give a shit about the things he did do. God’s gonna see him through <3

Can the day you make a Joan of Arc post be today? pretty please?
the gloss of it is that i hold similar suspicions towards appeals to joan of arc as an articulation of ideas around martyrdom, "girlhood," lesbianism, transness, masculinity, etc, as i do towards eg. appeals to butch chivalry via the vector of like, knighthood, the latter of which i find tedious and problematic for how it fails to understand how the construction of 'chivalry' is grounded in catholic crusading cultural narratives & the masculinity of knighthood in these imaginaries is one similarly soldered to narratives of white christian supremacy. joan of arc has significant currency within both historical and contemporary french nationalism to the point of being a symbol used by far-right french political movements; crudely, her appeal to catholic fascists lies in these same logics of military martyrdom that people who identify her as something of a patron saint of contemporary lesbianism/transness draw from.
i don't think appreciating joan of arc makes you "problematic" lol but i do think a good portion of this website's userbase just aren't especially mindful towards why she holds the appeal that she does and where else this appreciation for catholic martyrdom might find traction. whether or not she can be "reclaimed" from catholic fascistic narratives is a different question (that i frankly don't care about because i don't see the appeal), but that's not what's taking place in her current cultural circuit, because these narratives aren't being taken up and engaged with at all as far as i'm aware.

One of my favorite things about being Christian is being able to say joyfully, genuinely, and hopefully to all my enemies “See you in heaven!” because in a world of “see you in hell” and “kys” and “the world would be better without you” I’d choose “never give up on yourself, this world is better with you in it, it is never too late for you to embrace the God-given goodness inside you, and I would be so excited to discover I was spending eternity with you” every single time.

Thinking about this Catholic Church I went to over the weekend near the boarder of Utah.
It’s no secret that church attendance is dying more and more. There’s hardly anyone left at this one. The poor priest we had was advanced in years, you knew he probably had to be out of retirement to help, and struggled to even walk with a back so hunched over. When I saw him struggle, it made me want to cry. He had absolutely no one to help him at the altar, no deacons, no extra priest, no altar boys, no altar girls, just a couple door greeters opposite side of where the altar is. They used pre-recorded music because they had no piano player. Poor Father was too weak to give us Holy Communion himself. He had one of the sisters do it in his place. Normally, he said, a Catholic school would be supported by its church next to it but instead, since Mass attendance has dropped significantly, the school itself is supporting the church. The school itself has sisters that teach 51 students maximum. I don’t know how many families used to attend Mass there, but my heart felt so sad. Father says if we knew anyone that could support them financially, to reach out to them. If you are in a position where you can donate, please see the link below. If you are unable to donate, please don’t feel pressured or obligated to do so, but I ask you to join me in prayer.

ngl i believe that detrans people who regret medically transitioning should be able to share their experiences and i think that it's an important conversation to have but rn with the current social climate there's a 99.9% chance that they'll be coopted by transphobes and be used as an argument to ban trans healthcare. and i know that this isn't inherently their fault (unless they're the chloe cole types) but i think that there's a point where intention doesn't equal impact anymore and your words are going to be used as ammunition even if you don't want to. if you're passively or actively encouraging transphobia by letting others use your lived experience as a universal truth and you don't speak up about it then don't be surprised when trans people don't like you or cry about how "we were bullies all along"

im actually very pretentious about fantasy religions if ur gonna make a fantasy christianity please combine aspects of existing groups and get weird and sexy and insane wit it and please make up your own shit that has never existed and could theoretically but also dont mix up things that are theologically inconsistent or call x group another when theyre clearly closer to y group bc i will know and i will not be pleased that you didnt do basic wikipedia research. you dont have to exaggerate the bad things churches do the real life horrors are way more compelling to explore and need to see the light of day. if i see you taking obvious insp from one denomination and putting it on another with no consideration with how they actually work im suing you for medical damage. cant tell anyone how churches differ theologically? go back to square one. there are no marian statues in a baptist church. no anglicans are not the same church as the catholic one. yes lutherans and methodists are different. no orthodoxy and catholicism arent the same. no most protestant churches dont have priests. no you dont have to copy and paste the cultish aspects of mormonism into your mainline protestant or evangelical church i promise you its already weird enough you just need to look deeper. but please do go apeshit on mormonism though. they all have specific psychological effects and theyre not the same effects literally ask the people that left. the flavors of trauma will differ ex christians are like baskin robins ice cream. and finally if youre critiquing a religion and your critique isnt vague enough to apply to all of it — get specific. dont just throw spaghetti at the wall, talk your shit but talk it well. i should know exactly what bitch youre talking about so dont be afraid to name drop. much to be said about fantasy christian based cults in media but thats another post
