Note
Did you catch what rings Catherine is wearing in the various shots of the latest video? I’m interested if the ruby “promise ring” in particular shows up again.
Alright let's talk rings!
Birthstone Ring
Tumblr media
The Princess of Wales started wearing this ring during university and it has been speculated that it was a gift from Prince William but never confirmed. The ring is a gold band set with garnets and pearls which you guessed it - are William and Catherine's birthstones. The last time it was worn publicly was 2013 and she always wears it on her middle finger not her ring finger. I don't remember it being called a promise ring back when they were dating but now when I look it up all of the magazines and entertainment news sites call it that. I guess calling it a promise ring grabs more attention.
Diamond Eternity Ring
Tumblr media
In 2014, Kate added a diamond eternity band to her engagement and wedding rings. It is the Eclipse Diamond Eternity Ring by Annoushka which features diamonds set in white gold. The ring has been speculated but again never confirmed to be a gift from William to mark the birth of their first child the year before.
New Mystery Ring
Tumblr media
In August, she debuted a new eternity style ring in a video congratulating the returning British Olympians and then wore it again for the video announcing the end of her chemotherapy treatment. There has been a lot of speculation about this ring and what it means. It seems to be worn in place of her sapphire engagement ring so my best guess is that the ring is set with diamonds and sapphires. As for meaning it's probably nothing deeper than her engagement ring being ginormous and wanting a more comfortable one to wear sometimes. I know a ring of that size would get on my nerves constantly.
There also looks to be a fourth ring in the stack now on the outside edge. The order is gold wedding ring, new mystery ring, diamond eternity ring, and new small ring. I'd like to get a better look at it but it could be nothing more than an guard ring meant to keep the others from slipping off.

Princess of Wales - 2022 Statistics (FULL YEAR)
In 2022, the new Princess of Wales completed (by my count) 168 engagements, around 53 more than the amount of engagements she completed by my count in 2021 and 39 more than 2020. As well as this, she was sighted (or appeared) 16 times and appeared in a whopping 26 official (or unofficial and leaked!) photographs.
Tumblr media
She gained four new patronages throughout the year and finished with 25 patronages. Of her 168 engagements, 67 were related to one of her patronages, averaging at one patronage visit every 0.39 engagements. Her most visited patronage was, of course, the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales (formerly, the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge), with 46 visits. This was followed by the Lawn Tennis Association and the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (with 3 visits). She performed no engagements on behalf of The Air Cadet Organisation, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, Evelina London Children’s Hospital (she unofficially visited the hospital during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations), Family Action (she supported them in an article in Good Housekeeping), the Forward Trust, the National Portrait Gallery (her birthday portraits were released in conjunction with the NPG), the Natural History Museum, Place2Be, the Royal Photographic Society, the Scouts, or the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Tumblr media
Of her engagements, 64 have been solo and 73 accompanied by her husband, the Prince of Wales. Five were also with either Prince George or Princess Charlotte, five with a range of foreign royals (including the two in Denmark), as well as 20 with either the whole or most of the working British Royal Family (note: some of the events with foreign royals also included a lot of members of the British Royal Family), and one with one other solo royal (the Princess Royal).
Tumblr media
105 of her engagements physically took place in England, with all bar 48 physically occuring in the United Kingdom (with none in the Republic of Ireland). Of the 105 engagements which took place in England, 70 occured in London. Catherine's engagements also took her to 19 other areas of the UK. Only 7 were online or via telephone. Catherine also performed engagements in Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. Catherine also undertook a working trip to Denmark, a tour of the Caribbean (which saw her visit Belize, Jamaica and the Bahamas), and an official visit to Boston in the USA.
During the year, she performed engagements on a variety of themes. 32 of those engagements were predominantly related to her Early Years initiative, while 15 were linked to culture and 13 linked to sports. Due to the return of overseas trips, State Visits, and the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, 35 engagements were diplomatic in nature. 10 engagements were on the theme of mental health, while she also completed 9 engagements linked to children and young people, 7 linked to the military, 5 linked to Covid-19, 3 linked to the outdoors, and 1 which was specifically linked to the Commonwealth. Catherine also completed 38 engagements which could not otherwise be categorised.
Tumblr media
Clotheswise, her most worn designer has been Alexander McQueen, with 25 outfits, followed by 10 outfits from Catherine Walker, while 18 items of clothing were unidentified. Her most carried bag designer was Mulberry (12), followed by Emmy London with 9, and 5 which were unidentifed. Mulberry has been her most carried bag designer in every year apart from 2020. Her most worn shoe designer returned to being Gianvito Rossi (with 37 wears), followed by 11 pairs from Emmy London, and 6 from both Rupert Sanderson and Jimmy Choo. Gianvito Rossi was her most worn shoe designer in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. Despite Kiki McDonough creeping back into her earring rotation (with 18 wears), Catherine predominantly wore pieces inherited from either Diana (20) or the Queen (19). Aside from them, she also wore Annoushka jewellery 11 times. When it comes to accessories, she continued to wear face masks from Amaia Kids (5 times), although the return of hats meant her top accessories designer was Philip Treacy. She also wore 8 unidentified pieces. According to my (100% wrong) calculations - created from my own criteria (where items are counted each time she wears them), she wore £109,654.98 worth of new clothes this year and £271,423.79  worth of clothes in total.

Kate Middleton’s best earrings, from £30 bargains to £15k stunners

Kate Middleton’s best earrings, from £30 bargains to £15k stunners
If it’s not baroque, don’t fix it.
It’s no secret that there’s nothing quite like a Kate Middleton hat, however we’d argue that the Duchess of Cambridge’s earring game is just as strong. As any fellow short woman knows, little things can pack a real punch and Kate’s accessories are the important final touch to each of her polished outfits. While you might expect the royal jewels to come with a hefty bill, her favourites actually veer more towards a mid-price range from brands like Monica Vinader and are more affordable than we first thought.
We’ve curated some of her best earring moments below, as well as how to get the look if the payday gods have aligned for you. And if you want more fashion inspiration, we’ve got you – check out our watch and jewellery edit as well as Meghan Markle’s favourite fashion brands and the best Meghan Markle coats for a royal (to-be) touch.
Kate Middleton Wedding Earrings

Matching a pair of earrings to Queen Elizabeth’s Cartier Halo tiara was a tall order, but somehow Kate Middleton managed it with the help of her family. Her parents Carole and Michael Middleton enlisted jeweller Robinson Pelham to create bespoke chandeliers for her big day, which featured a secret message. The dangling acorn is actually a reference to the Middleton’s family crest, an emotional touch which would have gone a mile on her big day – even if the £15,000 price tag didn’t.

Annoushka’s previously featured on our list of the best Valentine’s Day jewellery and it’s no surprise that they’re a firm favourite with the royal family. Kate helped catapult their pearl earrings to fame and with good reason, the versatile pearl drops are adorable and can take you from the office to a cocktail party without too much fuss. Plus, you can also slip off the pearl pendants if you want to switch your look up a bit.

Kate Middleton’s Monica Vinader Earrings
Monica Vinader is one of Kate Middleton’s favourite fashion brands and she’s worn their earrings everywhere: from the ritziest galas at the National History Museum to chilled out public appearances in Canada. And it makes total sense, given that their chic yet understated style is totally Kate’s MO. If you’re looking to cop a Kate original, these are going to be some of the most affordable on the list.
Riva Diamond Cluster Bib Earrings
Tom Buchanan/silverhub/REX/Shutterstock
Kate stepped out at the Vogue100 Exhibition at the National Portrait gallery last year wearing Monica Vinader’s diamond cluster bib necklace and earrings, which were the perfect compliment to her pastel pink Alexander McQueen dress. It’s clearly one of her favourite pieces, as we’ve seen her picking them up again and again. Unfortunately, the set is now out of stock – but we’ve tossed in their matching bracelet below which is still available.

Siren Wire Earrings

Kate’s been spotted out and about wearing these casual beauties and unsurprisingly, they’re some of Monica Vinader’s most popular. (They have nine different versions on their site from rose gold blue agate to silver amazonite.) These are the gold and green onyx edition and in typical Kate style, she’s styled it above in a strong monochrome look.

Kate Middleton’s Kiki McDonough Earrings
Kate loves a bit of Kiki McDonough, so much so that the jeweller’s website has even tagged some of their products with her name. (Clearly, a lot of people have been looking to grab their own Kate original.) The Duchess wears Kiki McDonough’s earrings quite frequently, from her dramatic double drops at Pippa Middleton’s wedding through to their signature Kiki Classic Cushion Drop Earrings.
Morganite Double Drop Earrings

Kate’s all pastel-pink look was a winner on her sister’s wedding day, synchronised all the way down to her Kiki McDonough earrings. While they’re unfortunately out of stock now thanks to the Kate Effect, we’ve found a similar style below to snap up.

Kiki Classic Cushion Drop Earrings
Tom Buchanan/silverhub/REX/Shutterstock
Kate loves the Kiki Classic Cushion Drop Earrings, which are one of Kiki McDonough’s calling cards. With a tapered hoop set with diamonds and a 10mm coloured cushion stone, she has them in at least three colours: a pastel pink morganite, honey citrine and pale green amethyst. While the citrine ones she’s wearing above are out of stock, we’ve included the pale green ones below.

Kate Middleton’s Azuni Earrings
Ikon Pictures Ltd./REX/Shutterstock
These aqua earrings from Azuni are a departure from Kate’s timeless style, featuring a bright blue stone in a unique gold-plated brass setting. Previously called the Athena, they’ve since been renamed the ‘Kate’ Small Drop Earrings for obvious reasons – and they’re only £30. Score.
Exact Match: ‘Kate’ Small Drop Earrings (different colour)
Azuni ‘Kate’ Small Drop Earrings, Amazon
Priced at £29.50, available at Amazon

Kate Middleton’s Catherine Zoraida Earrings
Tim Rooke/REX/Shutterstock
While we haven’t seen seen these earrings in a little while, Kate wore them constantly in 2014, from her  tour of Uluru in Australia to a Christmas day service at Sandringham. They’re currently available in three different colourways: rose gold, silver and Kate’s gold-plated version.
Exact Match: Catherine Zoraida Double Leaf Earrings
Gold Double Leaf Earrings, Catherine Zoraida

We’ll be updating this list as time passes, as we’re sure the Duchess will continue to sport some amazing bling at future events.
Be right back, we’re just refinancing our house to buy a couple of shiny things…for a friend…

The Princess of Wales’ Stats - Fourth Quarter
In the final three months of 2022, the Princess of Wales completed 40 engagements, averaging around 13.3 engagements a month. Her busiest month was November, during which she completed 20 engagements. She undertook 12 engagements in December and 8 in October, where she also appeared in four released photos, videos, or statements. In December, Catherine appeared in 6 officially released photos, videos, or statements (most of which were related to her 'Together at Christmas' carol concert) and she was spotted once (on Christmas Day). While 2022 was a notably quiet October for the Princess, it was Catherine's second busiest December (behind 2014 and 2020 - both of which also included 'tours'), and busiest November ever.
Of her 25 patronages, (Catherine became Patron of Captain Harpreet Chandi's solo expedition to cross Antarctica in October), she has visited or completed work for 4, totalling 15 engagements in total. In October, Catherine completed two engagements on behalf of her patronages. 1 of those was the above mentioned Captain Chandi patronage, where Catherine made a phone call to Polar Preet. The other was for the Royal Foundation. In November, she completed five engagements on behalf of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales, one for the Rugby Football League and one for the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. All her patronage work in December (6 engagements) was related to the Royal Foundation.
Of her 40 engagements, 19 have been solo while another 16 were when she was accompanied by her husband, the Prince of Wales. Seven engagements took place with wider range of members of the British Royal Family - many of them related to Remembrance Sunday, as well as the Diplomatic Corps Reception, the South African State Visit, and Catherine's own Carol Concert.
Her engagements have mostly taken place in the UK, in England (25) and Northern Ireland (3). Her other 12 engagements took place in the USA, in Boston. Of her UK-based engagements, 15* took place in London, while she had two telephone meetings. She also undertook engagements in Windsor, Surrey, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Scarborough, Wigan and Reading. NOTE: A number of her engagements were meetings and could have taken place in either London or Windsor. As the Princess of Wales’ official residence remains in London, I will be counting these as taking place there until informed otherwise.
With a tour, State Visit and the Diplomatic Corps reception, many of her engagements have been diplomatic in nature, with seven engagements falling in that area specifically, while the majority of her engagements were once again under the mantle of Early Years (8). 4 of her engagements have focused on the mental health, while 3 engagements have been focused on sport. Two engagements apiece were on the themes of the military and culture. She also undertook an engagement specifically linked to the outdoors, as well as one linked to children and young people. Twelve of her engagements did not fit into the theme headings I have created.
Clotheswise, her most worn identified designer has once again been Alexander McQueen, followed by Gabriela Hearst and Roland Mouret, although she has worn three unidentifed looks. Her most carried bag designer was Mulberry, followed by DeMellier. Her most-worn shoe designer is, again, Gianvito Rossi, althought she has three unidentified shoes (thought to be bespoke Rossi designs). In terms of jewellery, she has predominantly worn Kiki McDonough pieces or pieces inherited from the late Princess of Wales (with 5 wears each), closely followed by items borrowed from the late Queen with 4, and Bentley and Skinner and Annoushka with 4. When it comes to hats, Catherine was seen in three hats, with Philip Treacy creating 2 of them (the other is from Sean Barratt). She also wore two tiaras - the Lotus Flower Tiara and Queen Mary's Lovers Knot Tiara.
Tomorrow, the full review of Catherine’s work in 2022 will be released.
