Alright let's talk rings!

Birthstone Ring

The Princess of Wales started wearing this ring during university and it has been speculated that it was a gift from Prince William but never confirmed. The ring is a gold band set with garnets and pearls which you guessed it - are William and Catherine's birthstones. The last time it was worn publicly was 2013 and she always wears it on her middle finger not her ring finger. I don't remember it being called a promise ring back when they were dating but now when I look it up all of the magazines and entertainment news sites call it that. I guess calling it a promise ring grabs more attention.

Diamond Eternity Ring

In 2014, Kate added a diamond eternity band to her engagement and wedding rings. It is the Eclipse Diamond Eternity Ring by Annoushka which features diamonds set in white gold. The ring has been speculated but again never confirmed to be a gift from William to mark the birth of their first child the year before.

New Mystery Ring

In August, she debuted a new eternity style ring in a video congratulating the returning British Olympians and then wore it again for the video announcing the end of her chemotherapy treatment. There has been a lot of speculation about this ring and what it means. It seems to be worn in place of her sapphire engagement ring so my best guess is that the ring is set with diamonds and sapphires. As for meaning it's probably nothing deeper than her engagement ring being ginormous and wanting a more comfortable one to wear sometimes. I know a ring of that size would get on my nerves constantly.

There also looks to be a fourth ring in the stack now on the outside edge. The order is gold wedding ring, new mystery ring, diamond eternity ring, and new small ring. I'd like to get a better look at it but it could be nothing more than an guard ring meant to keep the others from slipping off.

Kate Middleton visited the Royal Marsden, the State-of-art hospital where she received Cancer treatment in 2024

The Princess, Kate Middleton, wore Blazé Milano Anyway Checked Wool Coat with Kiltane Women’s Cashmere Polo Neck Jumper,  Edeline Lee Asymmetrically Pleated Midi Skirt, Cartier Trinity Earrings and her 4 Rings featuring Welsh Wedding Band, Annoushka eternity Band, and 2 other unidentified rings. Kate Middleton carried an Asprey London Morgan Bag  and wore her Russell & Bromley Brown Pinpoint Pumps to visit Royal Marsden hospital. More details can be found on Regalfille.

William has had the same watch for 28 years. The man has not let it go:

During his last two public appearances, the royal was spotted wearing two watches at the same time, one on each wrist. On one wrist, the Prince of Wales wore his Omega Seamaster 300m. The watch – which was a gift from his mother, Princess Diana – holds a lot of sentimental value and the future King has rarely been seen without it over the last 20 years. On his other wrist, Prince William sported a Garmin Forerunner 245 smartwatch.

And Kate has rarely been seen in public without Diana's big blue sapphire engagement ring until recently. (Big blue went snorkeling in the Bahamas in 2022!)

Town & Country: The quartet of rings, worn on Kate's left ring finger, appears to include her Welsh gold wedding band, the Annoushka eternity band that's widely believed to have been a present from William after the birth of their first child, Prince George, an additional diamond band, and her latest addition—what looks to be a diamond and sapphire eternity band, which she was spotted wearing in the video announcement that she had completed her cancer treatment. While little is known about the new ring, the blue and white stones do evoke Kate's famous 12-carat sapphire engagement ring, which originally belong to the late Princess Diana. Historically, Kate hasn't always made appearances in the sapphire ring, often taken off the large stone for sportier exploits as well as when meeting with medical staff or when visiting hospitals to avoid hygiene hazards. It's possible that this new, smaller version is a nod to Diana's ring that could be more practical for Kate's everyday way, though as yet the Palace has not commented on the new piece.

Neither today's engagement and the perfume video were sporty or a hospital. Nope. Just had to be dressed up appropriately. The circumstances didn't deem it impossible to not wear that huge, blue sapphire ring.

No. This is purely a personal choice. A choice Kate didn't seem interested in making last year. Or five years ago. Or ten years ago. Or even right after wedding when she was no longer engaged but married.

Was Kate really wearing the BIG BLUE sapphire ring for more than a decade because she wanted to? Or was it because William wanted her to? You know, the same William who cannot part with an almost thirty-year-old watch. Is Kate now wearing these four rings instead of the engagement ring because she's decided she wants to do her marriage jewelry her way instead of William's way?

Taking Big Blue off makes it seem like there were three people in the marriage: Will, Kate, and the lingering ghost of Diana.
