25th August >> Mass Readings (USA)
Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time (B)
(Liturgical Colour: Green. Year: B(II))
First Reading Joshua 24:1–2a, 15–17, 18b We will serve the Lord, for he is our God.
Joshua gathered together all the tribes of Israel at Shechem, summoning their elders, their leaders, their judges, and their officers. When they stood in ranks before God, Joshua addressed all the people: “If it does not please you to serve the LORD, decide today whom you will serve, the gods your fathers served beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose country you are now dwelling. As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” But the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the LORD for the service of other gods. For it was the LORD, our God, who brought us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a state of slavery. He performed those great miracles before our very eyes and protected us along our entire journey and among the peoples through whom we passed. Therefore we also will serve the LORD, for he is our God.”
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 34:2–3, 16–17, 18–19, 20–21
R/ Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall be ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the LORD; the lowly will hear me and be glad.
R/ Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
The LORD has eyes for the just, and ears for their cry. The LORD confronts the evildoers, to destroy remembrance of them from the earth.
R/ Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
When the just cry out, the LORD hears them, and from all their distress he rescues them. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
R/ Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Many are the troubles of the just one, but out of them all the LORD delivers him; he watches over all his bones; not one of them shall be broken.
R/ Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.
Second Reading Ephesians 5:21–32 This is a great mystery, regarding Christ and the Church.
Brothers and sisters: Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is head of his wife just as Christ is head of the church, he himself the savior of the body. As the church is subordinate to Christ, so wives should be subordinate to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her, cleansing her by the bath of water with the word, that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. So also husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one hates his own flesh but rather nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery, but I speak in reference to Christ and the church.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Gospel Acclamation John 6:63c, 68c
Alleluia, alleluia. Your words, Lord, are Spirit and life; you have the words of everlasting life. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel John 6:60–69 To whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Many of Jesus’ disciples who were listening said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, “Does this shock you? What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life. But there are some of you who do not believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. And he said, “For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father.” As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

I HAVE COME WITH TISSUES TO ASK FOR THE SISTER-PADAWAN😭
For the suffer asks that I will regert asking after
future me's problem
How do they view the world? Are they an optimist? A pessimist? A realist?
If they could go back in time for 5/10/15 minutes and change something, what would it be?
How do they kill? Do they try to minimize suffering?
I'm asking 3 (though you can eliminate any if you wish) cuz apparently I want to suffer
😭😘💜💜💜
We're gonna Hurt your sister Padawan this time OC Sunday
But Grace: sorry sorry my beloved.
Grace views the word pretty...half and half. She is a realist but she wants to be optimistic. She wants to be positive, she believes in heroes and thinks they exist. She just doesn't see herself as one. She thinks given half the chance people do Good. Choose good. Will help their fellow and stand up for what's right and wrong. It's why she tries to use negotiation tactics first like Obi wan and Shaka-ti. She wants to give people that one minute to think past their panic and dark thoughts and choose good. She chose the halls of healing to be someone's one good thing in some of their worst moments so that there is continuous good in the world no matter where.
Grace however believes for heroes to exist, people like her- who will do anything to protect the ones they love. - have to exist too. She will do Anything for her cherished ones. She has darker thoughts on how to end the war and protect her chosen few. She tries meditating on this often, being a Jedi these are pretty un-jedi like thoughts but the more her people are in danger the more loud those thoughts get.
If she could go back, there are two times she would love to go back and change. Back to her childhood when her brother is getting separated she'd choose to stay away under the torture another few minutes, just enough to see where he went, who took him. Or if she could have held onto him a little longer so both of them could have been found by the Jedi. Anything to give her a clue where her twin has gone rather than waiting for the Force to decide if they will meet again one day. She doesn't want to change becoming a Jedi, she just wants her brother to be safe.
The second time is the battle of Korhm. She'd got back to either set the medical tent else where, have better rotation guard or more scouts, spot the bomb first, anything to save her men. She thinks about it on her worst days, all the What Ifs she could have changed. She eventually met her soulmates, but she thinks about the men she lost daily, she remembers all their names and keeps their one photo In her tunic all the time. If she were mandalorians she'd do a whole name of remembrance for them.
Grace has and will Kill, for the most part Grace will kill someone quickly, and with as little pain as possible. She's a healer first, she wants to ease someones passing, to hold their hand and take their emotions in as they breath their last.
In combat she keeps a calm and steady and and will fight to keep casualties to a minimum- of her negations fail.
But Ventriss - Grace wants to Hurt ventriss, draw the battle out and make the assassin suffer. Grace like most nights Sisters feed off fear when they use their magick, and she Wants Ventriss to Be Afraid.
After the battle of Korhm, Ventriss had to flee from her because Grace would not Stop, there was no Jedi mercy/patience there. She didn't fall but Ventriss was fighting a night sister for a moment, not a Jedi and she was afraid.
Thank you for asking my friend. 💜

Article about the brave men who stopped the gunman
Club Q Colorado shooting: Attack was ended by dad and drag performer https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-63698165
A father and a drag performer managed to subdue a gunman who opened fire at an LGBT nightclub in the US state of Colorado, it has emerged.
The attacker killed five people and left 17 others with injuries at Club Q in Colorado Springs on Saturday night.
Officials named the "heroes" who halted the attack as Richard Fierro and Thomas James, without detailing their actions.
Mr Fierro provided his account of events, saying he tackled the suspect, took the weapon and hit him with it.
It is not clear if Mr James is the drag performer Mr Fierro says then stepped in to help.
At a Monday afternoon press conference, police identified the victims as Daniel Aston, Derrick Rump, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh and Raymond Vance. Family members say Aston and Rump were both bartenders at Club Q.
The suspect, named by police as 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich, is in police custody in hospital.
The gunman was stopped by a 15-year US Army veteran who was attending a drag performance at the club with his wife and daughter.
Speaking to reporters on Monday evening, Richard Fierro said his combat training kicked in as he pounced on the gunman, pulling him to the floor by his body armour.
"I just ran over there. Got him. I'm thinking, 'I gotta kill this guy. He's gonna kill my kid. He's gonna kill my wife'," said the Iraq and Afghanistan veteran.
"It's the reflex," Mr Fierro said from the front yard of his suburban Colorado Springs home. "Go. Go to the fire. Stop the action. Stop the activity. Don't let no-one get hurt."
The local brewery owner said he and his family had dropped to the floor as the bullets began to fly.
He described seeing the gunman move in the direction of a patio where other club-goers had fled, before charging at him.
He said the man dropped his rifle as he fell. They began wrestling on the ground. Mr Fierro said he snatched the attacker's pistol from him and used it to beat him.
"I kept whaling on [hitting] him. I'm a big dude and this guy was bigger," Mr Fierro said.
He told reporters that he urged a drag performer to kick the attacker in the head.
"One of the performers was walking by and I told her kick him," he said. "And she took her high heel and stuffed it in his face."
Mr Fierro said one of the dead included his daughter's boyfriend, 22-year-old Raymond Vance.
Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers hailed the bystanders' "incredible act of heroism".
He said that he had spoken to Mr Fierro on Monday, telling reporters: "I have never encountered a person who engaged in such heroic actions that was so humble about it."
Praise also came from the governor of Colorado, as well as the owner of the club - who said the "heroes" had probably saved lives.
Police are looking into who owned the rifle allegedly used in the shooting, as well as a handgun the suspect was carrying at the time of his arrest.
The investigation will determine whether the shooting - which came on the eve of Sunday's Transgender Day of Remembrance - was a hate crime, and if the suspect acted alone.
The suspect is facing five murder charges and five charges of committing a bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury, according to US media. Investigators said on Tuesday that no charges had yet been formally filed.
Club Q has been described as the heart of the LGBT community in Colorado Springs, a city 70 miles (110km) south of Denver.
The suspect had reportedly previously come to police attention over an alleged bomb threat in 2021.
According to a police report at the time, his mother had called emergency services saying "he was threatening to cause harm to her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons, and ammunition".
President Joe Biden said Americans "cannot and must not tolerate hate".
In 2016, 49 people were killed in a shooting at the Pulse gay club in Orlando, Florida. At the time it was the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

So, Piety Fortnight achieved, EXCELLENT, which means it’s time to turn toward prep for Winter Fortnight, because the speedrun of Saturnalia-Solstice-Christmas-New Year’s with various permutations of community/coven/household/family is Too Much to not have everything possible lined up beforehand. (Srsly, once we hit the final quarter of the year, that’s it, my calendar year is booked, and there’s no time for additions. Which is why I’m not precisely sad that I’ve missed the registration deadline for December CHPN certification testing and will have to finish studying and register for the March test instead. I don’t know why I thought I’d have time to take it in December, and March will still let me get it done (fingers crossed, Fortuna please smile on me) before my next annual review. ANYWAY.)
In addition to the usual end-of-year scrummage, we’ve also got the contractors working downstairs – walls are back in, which means I can stop worrying about the cats exploring the foundation and getting lost/stuck somewhere, but also means we’ve had to pick paint colors, if we wanted to take advantage of the chance for re-painting. More on all THAT later.
Meanwhile, I’m working over Thanksgiving and into the holiday weekend, which means I had a chance at a seven-day stretch off leading into it, but I was a dumbass and said I’d go in and work a short shift on Monday because we’re going to be short-staffed. But it’s hard to say no to the kind of money we’re getting for extra shifts right now, and it’s only eight hours, so I’ll get out in the afternoon, so there’s that, but still, why tf did I think it was a good idea to break the last stretch of off days I can possibly have until January?
At any rate, queue is definitely in charge in the upcoming weeks. On the fannish tip: I’m planning a re-watch of KP after New Year’s, ostensibly in pursuit of character and plot background material for fic, so likely an uptick in KP posting then. Meanwhile, I’m likely to keep working my way through LITA in my bits of downtime. I’m thinking I’ll also watch The Eclipse after the New Year, but I’ve been saying I was going to finally watch Not Me for a year now, before KP knocked me over, and I still haven’t gotten to it, so I guess we’ll see what actually happens.
Anyway anyway, making a to-do list to see if I can keep on track, and possibly keep adding to. (ETA: Oh, wow, OK that’s a lot.)

Timeline: Part 7 - October 2017
For earlier timeline posts: click here or here.
There are three installments of the "Meghan's PR Timeline" today, which will see us finish out 2017: October 2017, November 2017, and December 2017.
One particularly interesting observation about this period of time is that from mid-October to mid-November, there are actually whole days without a single item or piece about Meghan. It's very strange because from about the end of April 2017 to the end of September 2017, we were being bombarded DAILY by stories about Meghan.
Is the missing coverage because those pages, stories, and articles were scrubbed in 2018/2019 when Meghan's PR was cleaning up her image?
Did Meghan finally get the ring in early October and no longer needed her PR to pressure Harry and force him to propose?
Or is it the quiet before the storm (i.e., the engagement announcement)? Meghan decided to drop coverage to get more bang when the engagement was announced?
10/1/2017: Toronto Invictus Games Closing Ceremony. Meghan, Doria, Jess, and Markus arrive early and are in a box. Meghan arrives first and is caught directing photographers where to go and what angles to use. Harry arrives later. Meghan leaks that Harry and Doria met at the closing ceremony and they get along fabulously.
(For additional context timeline-wise: 10/1/17 is the Route 19 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas)
10/2/2017: Harry returns to London via Heathrow Airport and it's listed in the Court Circular. Meghan teases an engagement to E News and says that her friends have become Harry's family.
10/3/2017: Meghan merches her shoes from a September 2017 papwalk. She also tells Elle Magazine that she and Harry are unofficially engaged, and everyone knows.
10/4/2017: Meghan modernizes the monarchy if she marries Harry. Charles is in Malta.
10/5/2017: Ronan Farrow's Weinstein expose is published by The New York Times. Meghan merches her Invictus Games clothing - Opening Ceremony Outfit, Closing Ceremony Coat.
10/6/2017: Carole Middleton and Doria Ragland are the same.
10/7/2017: Charles's letter to Tony Blair about the hunting ban is published.
October 7th is the first day with no Meghan stories or Harkle coverage since early summer.
10/8/2017: Meghan has moved to London and is being driven by a royal chauffeur.
10/9/2017: Harry's ex Cressida makes the news for being connected to Harvey Weinstein. Jess Mulroney sources an "all about Meghan's bestie, Jess" story.
10/10/2017: Meghan's PR takes a dig at William and Kate, asking why they never hold hands. Kate makes her first public appearance since announcing her third pregnancy, implying that she is on the mend from HG.
10/11/2017: Meghan's 2011 film, Dysfunctional Friends, resurfaces. Her character is a photographer for male underwear models. Meghan tries to be a fashion influencer, gets linked to Julia Roberts, Naomi Watts, and Greta Lee as a major "power dresser". She also merches the nail polish she might wear for the wedding and/or the engagement announcement.
Meanwhile, Harry attends the 100 Women in Finance Gala Dinner. Kate's aide, Rebecca Deacon, receives the Royal Victorian Order. Buckingham Palace announces that Charles will lay wreaths at the Cenotaph for The Queen during the Remembrance Sunday service, and The Queen returns to London, ending her summer Balmoral haloriday.
10/12/2017: The Queen's first day back in London/work following summer holidays. Harry has #1 sexiest celebrity beard. (No, they're not talking about Meghan. They mean the actual hair on his face.)
10/13/2017: Meghan and Harry leak that they're house-hunting in the Cotswolds for a marital home and merch a few properties in the Daily Mail. Meghan also teases wedding speculation and Soho Farmhouse's newest financial report reveals that they lost $34.48 million in 2017 (hence the Harkle sponcon throughout 2018)
10/14/2017: Royals living in the US - forgotten Spencer cousins who call the American Pacific Northwest home.
10/15/2017: Meghan confirms that she is finished with Suits when Season 7 wraps in November. #MeToo movement begins and James Middleton, Donna Air split is revealed.
10/16/2017: Meghan leaks that she and Harry are already engaged but won't announce it until Suits filming has ended. Harry attends the WellChild Awards. Also, Harry tells people that he doesn't want a formal pageanty Cambridge-like wedding.
Meanwhile, Harry accompanies William and Kate to an engagement celebrating the release of Paddington 2.
10/17/2017: No new Meghan or Harkle stories, but Eugenie is papped in Los Angeles; William and Kate announce the baby is due in April; and Camilla gives a landmark speech on osteoporosis.
10/18/2017: Meghan leaks to the Daily Mail that she and Harry had tea with The Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 12th, and it's the first time Meghan met Her Majesty.
Note: This version of events contradicting Harry's claim in Spare that Meghan met The Queen for the first time on Sunday at the Royal Lodge while visiting the Yorks. October 12th is a Wednesday.
10/19/2017: Meghan teases Harry's proposal plan.
10/20/2017: Meghan's copycatting of Diana's outfits and behavior finally gets noticed. Meghan hints about etiquette lessons and teases the engagement.
Samantha Markle sets up a gofundme to raise money for an accessible home as her MS progresses, capitalizing on Meghan's fame.
10/21/2017: No new Meghan or Harkle stories.
10/22/2017: No new Meghan or Harkle stories.
10/23/2017: Harry has an away day in Lancashire.
10/24/2017: Meghan makes a dig at Kate - why she never wears red nail polish.
10/25/2017: Meghan merches her voice (perhaps this is when she starts negotiating for a Disney documentary voiceover gig...).
10/26/2017: DailyMailTV discusses Meghan's ancestry. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan leak that:
Harry has had a crush on Meghan since 2015 when he saw her on Suits and he did tell friends back then that she was his ideal woman.
KP aides have been instructed to begin wedding planning and are reviewing dates.
The Cambridges announced Kate's pregnancy early because protocol requires the wedding can't take place until after the baby is born.
10/27/2017: Channel 4 broadcasts a "10 Things About Meghan Markle" documentary.
10/28/2017: Meghan and Harry are actually related! They're distant cousins.
10/29/2017: No new Meghan or Harkle stories.
10/30/2017: No new Meghan or Harkle stories.
10/31/2017: Harry is in Chicago to attend the Barack Obama Foundation Summit, and Charles and Camilla are in Singapore for royal tour.

The Princess of Wales’ Stats - Fourth Quarter
In the final three months of 2022, the Princess of Wales completed 40 engagements, averaging around 13.3 engagements a month. Her busiest month was November, during which she completed 20 engagements. She undertook 12 engagements in December and 8 in October, where she also appeared in four released photos, videos, or statements. In December, Catherine appeared in 6 officially released photos, videos, or statements (most of which were related to her 'Together at Christmas' carol concert) and she was spotted once (on Christmas Day). While 2022 was a notably quiet October for the Princess, it was Catherine's second busiest December (behind 2014 and 2020 - both of which also included 'tours'), and busiest November ever.
Of her 25 patronages, (Catherine became Patron of Captain Harpreet Chandi's solo expedition to cross Antarctica in October), she has visited or completed work for 4, totalling 15 engagements in total. In October, Catherine completed two engagements on behalf of her patronages. 1 of those was the above mentioned Captain Chandi patronage, where Catherine made a phone call to Polar Preet. The other was for the Royal Foundation. In November, she completed five engagements on behalf of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales, one for the Rugby Football League and one for the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. All her patronage work in December (6 engagements) was related to the Royal Foundation.
Of her 40 engagements, 19 have been solo while another 16 were when she was accompanied by her husband, the Prince of Wales. Seven engagements took place with wider range of members of the British Royal Family - many of them related to Remembrance Sunday, as well as the Diplomatic Corps Reception, the South African State Visit, and Catherine's own Carol Concert.
Her engagements have mostly taken place in the UK, in England (25) and Northern Ireland (3). Her other 12 engagements took place in the USA, in Boston. Of her UK-based engagements, 15* took place in London, while she had two telephone meetings. She also undertook engagements in Windsor, Surrey, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Scarborough, Wigan and Reading. NOTE: A number of her engagements were meetings and could have taken place in either London or Windsor. As the Princess of Wales’ official residence remains in London, I will be counting these as taking place there until informed otherwise.
With a tour, State Visit and the Diplomatic Corps reception, many of her engagements have been diplomatic in nature, with seven engagements falling in that area specifically, while the majority of her engagements were once again under the mantle of Early Years (8). 4 of her engagements have focused on the mental health, while 3 engagements have been focused on sport. Two engagements apiece were on the themes of the military and culture. She also undertook an engagement specifically linked to the outdoors, as well as one linked to children and young people. Twelve of her engagements did not fit into the theme headings I have created.
Clotheswise, her most worn identified designer has once again been Alexander McQueen, followed by Gabriela Hearst and Roland Mouret, although she has worn three unidentifed looks. Her most carried bag designer was Mulberry, followed by DeMellier. Her most-worn shoe designer is, again, Gianvito Rossi, althought she has three unidentified shoes (thought to be bespoke Rossi designs). In terms of jewellery, she has predominantly worn Kiki McDonough pieces or pieces inherited from the late Princess of Wales (with 5 wears each), closely followed by items borrowed from the late Queen with 4, and Bentley and Skinner and Annoushka with 4. When it comes to hats, Catherine was seen in three hats, with Philip Treacy creating 2 of them (the other is from Sean Barratt). She also wore two tiaras - the Lotus Flower Tiara and Queen Mary's Lovers Knot Tiara.
Tomorrow, the full review of Catherine’s work in 2022 will be released.

Railway on the Right Tracks
Sunday and I headed down to Station View to cover the WRCWFL Premier Division game between table-topping Farsley Celtic and a closely chasing Harrogate Railway.
I was hoping the recent spell of overcast weather would break in time for the game, as the Met Office had promised that the cloud cover would start to have some gaps after two weeks of total horizon-to-horizon greyness.
The cloud was thinner, and it was a little brighter, but we weren’t to be graced by the sight of blue sky just yet. At least it wasn’t raining – got to take the positives!
It was the Sunday closest to Remembrance Day, so shortly before kick-off both teams stood around the centre circle and fell silent to show their respect for all those that gave up so much for our freedoms and safety.
A short blast on the whistle at the end of the minute and the teams faced each other, ready to battle it out for what could be one of the pivotal fixtures of the season. The 90 minutes that followed wouldn’t disappoint.
The opening stages of the game showed just how good both teams were; Farsley Celtic playing some nice passing football, but with the home team settling the better of the two sides and pushing forward.
In around the tenth minute, a corner won by Railway was delivered beautifully into the Celtic penalty area where Caitlyn Atkin met it perfectly and volleyed the ball past Leigh Bamford, the Farsley keeper, and into the roof of the net, 1-0.
Things were about to get better for the home team more or less straight from the restart as Railway won possession and attacked down their right. Krista Shuttleworth got onto the ball and ran in towards the Farsley penalty box; a little look up and a deft lob beat the Celtic stopper who was off her goal line, 2-0.
Harrogate Railway were looking sharp, with decisive direct attacks that were causing the visitors all sorts of problems. However, Farsley Celtic were certainly not out of this game, and were showing signs of their own attacking prowess.
As the half-hour mark approached, Celtic were clawing their way back into the game, starting to win a lot of the 50-50 challenges, attacking down both wings, and creating some good half-chances…but being honest, without seriously troubling Charlotte Donnelly in goal.
That was about to change.
Having created a couple of good chances and wasting them, Farsley attacked down their right and laid a ball across the Railway penalty box, with their skipper Lauren Rigby collecting it and calmly finishing into the bottom left of the goal, 2-1.
With around ten minutes of the first half remaining, the visitors were in the ascendency, causing Railway all sorts of problems, pushing them back into their own half and making the Station View side defend deep. Farsley were to create two further chances to score…one in particular, put wide when in reality they should have hit the back of the net.
The half-time whistle blew, and Harrogate Railway headed in 2-1 up, but probably the more relieved of the two teams to have reached the break and still find themselves ahead.
The first 30 minutes had belonged to the team from Harrogate, and they could have scored more. Farsley weren’t top of the league for nothing, they had come back strongly in the final 15 minutes and could have scored more than the one that they had.
Second half got underway, and it was Harrogate Railway that raced out of the blocks, seemingly determined to reassert their control on the game.
Just shy of the 15-minute mark, Rail won a throw-in on their left. A ball from Caitlyn Atkin to Krista Shuttleworth saw the tricky forward run across the edge of the Celtic penalty box with three defenders trying to close her down. Reaching the right side of the box, Krista created enough space to get her shot away, lobbing the keeper to score her second and give Railway a two-goal cushion, 3-1.
Farsley’s response was to push forward down their right and move the ball across the pitch to the left side. Their winger cut inside, angling for the box, creating a glorious chance to instantly respond but couldn’t hit the target.
Farsley Celtic were now pressing hard to get back into the game, and another chance saw Charlotte race out from her goal line to meet the oncoming striker…clearing the ball with a sliding challenge to put it out for a throw-in to the visitors…a wonderful bit of goalkeeping to command her area.
Farsley were turning the screw a little bit at this stage of the game, but Railway’s defence was handling the threats well and increasingly restricting the visitors to long range shots from outside the box.
With about a quarter of the game remaining, Rail were increasingly counter attacking the visitors as spaces were opening up. In one foray forward, a ball in from the left found Elisa Hodson who stepped across the centre back, and with only the keeper to beat, fired the ball wide.
As the minutes ticked by, Railway were starting to dominate once more and another incisive run down the left saw a high ball sent into the box; Elisa rose to try and head it, stretching with every sinew to get something on it but…it was just a little too high for her to make contact.
Farsley picked the ball up and immediately pushed forward, getting to just outside the Railway penalty area before sending in another shot which was comfortably collected by Charlotte.
With time running out, Elisa was to have another chance, putting her effort over the bar this time…but Railway were playing some good football and looked the more likely of the two teams to score.
Into injury time and Paige Swales played a wonderful ball into Georgia Binns who turned the Farsley Defender and sent an unstoppable shot past the Celtic stopper into the roof of the net to seal the game, 4-1.
There had been a few stoppages in the half, so there was a little bit of injury time to add on, and it was Harrogate who were to capitalise in the final few minutes.
A pass back from a Farsley defender towards the keeper was under hit and the lively Elisa pounced on the opportunity. Controlling the ball with her first touch, she skipped around the keeper and with her mother Jules watching from the technical area, sent it unerringly over the line from the angle…a wonderful finish and a goal that her performance deserved, 5-1.
The full-time whistle blew shortly after and Railway had won 5-1, collected a vital three points, and underlined why they will be up at the top of the league fighting for promotion in March/April.
The margin of the scoreline was probably a little unfair on the visitors, as Farsley Celtic played some good football, controlled a few periods of play throughout the game, and could have scored more. They achieved promotion last season, and I am certain on the evidence from Sunday that they will be in the reckoning come the end of this one too.
Goals: Caitlyn Atkin, Krista Shuttleworth (2), Georgia Binns, Elisa Hodson. POTM: Lou Donnelly. Referee: Amy Fern.

10/11/2024. Bonjour et bienvenue on this Sunday morning when towns and villages in the UK will be commemorating “Remembrance Day”. Here in France Armistice Day is a “jour férié” and the commemoration will take place tomorrow. I have worn my “bleuet” all week in remembrance of two great uncles killed in the Great War and buried here in France.
Weather wise it has been a strange week, we have had sunny afternoons after mist and cloud in the mornings. To see the sun in November, really does make you feel like being outside and smiling. This morning however météo tells me we have 7 (feels like 8c) with 95% humidity. So we have “one misty moisty morning”. Well I should still manage to go to the shop 🚶🏿♀️.
I have worked in my garden and the second border now has cardboard and bark down, which is a relief to me.
My cleaner (who has left now) was using Anie as a “go-between” I felt so sorry for her. On Wednesday she had spent the day with family and had driven home in the dark, only to have to come to my house to pick up paperwork and take it to this lady (who was moving the following day). I always think that driving in the dark is very tiring but as always, Anie did not complain.
I was a little stressed on Tuesday as my blood test results showed my platelets had fallen below 20, which I had been viewing as my “new norm”. Anyway I had my transfusion on Thursday and although I did feel better I am very very tired.
Sarah, an English friend who lives in Haute Marne, came to visit on Thursday. She left about 12:15 and goodness me my taxi for the hospital arrived at 12:40……..it was due around 13:30 but there was another person going so that’s why they were early. So my companion was an elderly gentleman, who just happens to be English! As I learned he has lived here since 2013 (so I am not the first English person living here) . We didn’t have a long conversation as he is very deaf so it was a little difficult. Actually when I heard him speaking French I thought that we sounded similar (not necessarily the accent, just the fact that English was our native tongue). In his life he had been a French teacher, he is married to a French lady who was an English teacher. Fascinating, they have been married 64 years 😳.
My appointment with a GP in town was on Friday. He made a home visit and arrived around 11:40. I don’t think he is going to be made permanent until January so couldn’t take me on as a patient yet. However, he checked my blood pressure and my heart and lungs. I have actually seen him before, he is Romanian and speaks really good English so I am pleased. He read the letters from Paris and told me to continue being positive, to keep getting outside and enjoying my garden.
Monique came down for a chat on Friday. I was tired and it was getting dark so she left after an hour and a half. It was nice to see her but my plans for my evening meal were pushed to one side as I started feeling nauseous.
Here is the music section, the first song I thought maybe was just from 10/12 years ago, oh goodness me no! 24 years ago this was released, it’s by Anastacia, “I’m Outta Love” as you will have guessed it was released in 2000.
The second song is by another lady (no longer with us) it’s by Laura Branigan “Gloria” released some 42 years ago in 1982 🙈.
“The Photographer” and “The Jetsetter” went to a restaurant on Thursday, “The Angel on the Green”, I laughed when I heard the name as I know the road it is on and said “there is no green on that road” “The Photographer” replied with “No Angels either” we did laugh!
Yesterday they had a ride out to Wetherby, which stands on the river Wharfe. They spent a pleasant time and “The Photographer” managed to buy a lens for his camera in a charity shop of all places.
It has been “haircut” weekend for “The Solicitor”. We had a lovely long chat on Friday evening then it was an early wake up on Saturday to go to the barbers. Afterwards, it was shopping so hopefully Saturday tea was something delicious. Let’s hope that today is more relaxing for him. Remember positive thinking wins the day 😁. Oh yes, I do hope you like the music choices too 😉.
“The Recovery Coordinator” has had the usual busy week. Yesterday morning she was up to go with “The Solicitor” to the barbers and then shopping. I suppose getting it out of the way on a Saturday means that having a lazy day on a Sunday makes you feel better. By all accounts it is cold in the North East of England and I don’t envy her having to be up early to drive to work. Even if I was well, I would hate the commute, maybe I did it so long. In all my working life I never once worked in the town I lived in. “The Solicitor is fortunate in that it’s only a few minutes walk to his office so no great rush on a morning and home quickly at night.
I spent quite a lot of time collating statements, bills etc which have limits on the length of time they need to be kept here in France. I do it on the computer which can be time consuming if you haven’t done it for a while but it’s satisfying when it’s done. It’s the same with messaging friends, calling family, replying to emails etc it takes a large part of your day. Yesterday I spent time downloading information ready to be filed in the appropriate folders.
Still no news from Paris hospital, so at the moment, I have just one appointment next week in Troyes for my transfusion. Maybe I will get on with the knitting I picked up again. Don’t think I will be doing a jigsaw for a while as it’s nice to have the table free for a while.
Let’s hope that next week is nice enough to let me have my walk, I really must give the car a little run around the block too.
Until the next time…….

All Souls' Day, also called The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed, is a day of prayer and remembrance for the faithful departed observed by Christians on November 2.
Through prayer, intercessions, alms, and visits to cemeteries, people commemorate the poor souls in purgatory and give the departed their favorite indulgences.
If this falls on a Sunday or a solemnity, the feast is celebrated on November 3.
The Office of the Dead must be recited by the clergy on this day, and all the Masses are to be of Requiem except one of the current feast, where this is of obligation.
The Catholic Church teaches that the purification of the souls in purgatory can be assisted by the actions of the faithful on earth.
The theological basis for the feast is the doctrine that the souls which, on departing from the body are not perfectly cleansed from venial sins or have not fully atoned for past transgressions, are debarred from the Beatific Vision.
And that the faithful on earth can help them by prayers, almsgiving and especially the sacrifice of the Mass.
In the early days of Christianity, the names of the departed brethren were entered in the diptychs.
Later, in the sixth century, it was customary in Benedictine monasteries to hold a commemoration of the deceased members at Whitsuntide.
In Spain, there was such a day on Saturday before Sexagesima or before Pentecost at the time of Saint Isidore (d. 636).
In Germany, there existed (according to the testimony of Widukind, Abbot of Corvey, c. 980) a time-honoured ceremony of praying to the dead on October 1.
This was accepted and sanctified by the Church.
Saint Odilo of Cluny ordered that the commemoration of all the faithful departed be held annually in the monasteries of his congregation.
From here, it spread among the other congregations of the Benedictines and among the Carthusians.
Of all the dioceses, Liège was the first to adopt it under Bishop Notger (d. 1008).
It is then found in the martyrology of Saint Protadius of Besançon (1053-66).
Bishop Otricus (1120-25) introduced it into Milan for October 15.
In Spain, Portugal and Latin America, priests say three Masses on this day.
A similar concession for the entire world was asked of Pope Leo XIII. He would not grant the favour but ordered a special Requiem on Sunday, 30 September 1888.
In the Greek Rite, this commemoration is held on the eve of Sexagesima Sunday, or on the eve of Pentecost.
The Armenians celebrate the Passover of the Dead on the day after Easter.
