Veli Lavellan, Eelis's best friend and hunting partner from before the Inquisition.
Keeper Deshanna actually tasked him to go to the Conclave, and Eelis asked to follow (it was all a ploy to send them both, because the buddy system is important!!) But even the Keeper couldn't predict what would happen at Haven.

Since all I’ve been doing is reblogging people dragging lotr prime, I would like to make something clear:
Every single thing they’ve fucked up, they could make a solid LotR show even with. I would hate it on principle, but they could do it.
Long post, detailing how this is possible but how they will still not do it beneath cut.
I love Elrond, but Peter Jackson proved you can have a very out of character Elrond and still tell LotR well, so politically ambitious (🤮) Elrond won’t sink this ship.
The extreme heteronormativity cowardice they’re showing with short-haired male elves and beardless female dwarves aren’t going to break this show, just my goddamn heart.
Girlboss Galadriel in Feanorian plate armor… when plate really shouldn’t be on ANYONE even by the end of the third age, fine, whatever.
Lots of original characters? You need them, otherwise there would be like two named characters per city, and entire cultures of middle earth would be gone. You definitely need at least nine men whose names we do not know.
Hobbits in the second age? Honestly, hobbits at sneaky, all they need to do is be just big enough to pass for short men and not draw the specific attention of anyone who writes shit down.
Celebrimbor and Galadriel’s relative ages? It’s so sexist, I hate it, but maybe Edwards is just that good an actor, I wouldn’t have said Hugo Weaving was particularly ageless, and I’d take Cate Blanchet if they cast her as she is now in a heartbeat. Suspension of disbelief is pretty powerful.
Condensed timeline? It can be done, it’s just a needle that needs to be very carefully threaded.
No, what’s going to absolutely kill this show dead, absolutely flatline it, is going to be a lack of thematic consistency and vision.
Tolkien needs to feel like you were dropped into a myth, a chain of events that’s connected to a time before the sun rose. An absolute leviathan of history peaking through the mist at you, ready to rear up and provide sudden aid or sudden doom from unexpected places.
People are walking around who spoke to gods and can reform the earth with song, and there are still dark unknowable things that the likes of them can’t anticipate. You are being crushed by a mountain of history, but even as just a note in this vast song, you can hope and move forwards.
Peter Jackson’s movies worked, because you felt like the characters were a part of something huge that was ending, and you felt that against all odds hope could prevail, even at a high cost. It hit the themes, and gave us actors who gave a shit, and that’s why I still watch the absolutely terrible green ghost effects in Return of the King and get utterly hype when the scooby-doo villain says “THAT LINE WAS BROKEN” and Aragorn replies “IT HAS BEEN REMADE!”
What is the story of the rings of power going to be about? Where is that sad mix of ancient power, and wisdom forgotten? The second age distilled is very much about the perils of hubris, who is holding down the fight against that?
What is moral of this story, where is the pathos?
I was not a fan of game of thrones, cause all of their interesting characters (and they were interesting!) didn’t add up to a story that MEANT anything. And that was done for this fake realism of gore and political agendas. In game of thrones even good people are vile in their own way.
In LotR even vile people were not always so, and redemption is always RIGHT THERE even if you know they won’t reach up and grab it. Tolkien writes stories where pity can be found for a slimey gremlin who CANONICALLY HAS EATEN BABIES, and compassion is not only right, but necessary.
Do we think Galadriel in Feanorian armor is going to stand for that? Cause it’s supposed to be Elrond. It’s supposed to be the half-elf who chooses to preserve knowledge over power, and uses his immortality to bear witness and heal what wrongs he may, and refuses to become embittered despite his losses.
This isn’t going to be a myth, it’s going to be a Disney ride. Shiny, plastic, with calculated thrills and twists and smoke machines instead of mist.
The Hobbit was a bit like that, but The Hobbit at least tried to hit that note of wonder, it was just not tight enough to get there. And the character designs were fun. At the time I think I said “All this filler was worth it to hear that ring theme hit under the misty mountains for the first time.”
This show doesn’t even know what it needs to try to be. It is, in fact, actively trying to be something else.

Why aren't more people upset about this? Especially my fellow Non-binary fans.
For so long, we have had an entire race of characters in popular culture, who do not feel the need to embrace conventional gender norms.
Tolkien's Elves are notoriously androgynous....the males are effeminate while also remaining a badass example of gentle masculine (aka: without the toxicity). The females are just as badass as the males while embracing a powerful version of the feminine.
The new Amazon Lord of The Rings Series, The Rings of Power, clearly seeks to draw very defined lines between which characters are male, and which ones are female. They're basically erasing any less-than-binary features by taking on conventional standards for gender....such as cutting the male's hair short, while only the females have long flowing hair. This is NOT true to Tolkien lore! Oh, but the male humans and dwarves can have long hair. Probably because they also have beards. So, I guess that's okay, because they're still adhering to gender norms. But the race of Elves, who traditionally do not grow beards....well, I guess they decided that they need to make their hair short to make absolutely sure everyone knows who's male and who's female....because defining a binary is what they obviously value.
This show claims to be embracing progressive values....but when it comes to LGBTQIA representation, they're so obviously backsliding.
I mean, I love the diverse cast. Yes please, let’s have more of this. But why do we simultaneously have to undermine another marginalized community in the process?
I know, a lot of people will say "it's only hair"....but it's more than that. If they're willing to overlook such a fundamental aspect of The Elves and the way they're meant to be presented, what else are they going to change? Plus, as I've already stated...but I can't state enough: this is clearly erasure of anything remotely non-binary.
....and I haven't even started on the fact that Dwarvish Females were meant to have facial hair. Again, they are taking away what little non-binary symbolism there is, because they don't like the asthetic, or whatever their reasons are. They’re basically saying it’s NOT okay for people not to adhere to the current societal expectations of the gender norms, so they won’t support it.
Oh, and let's not forget....Galadriel. A character who is so powerful, she's one of the only beings in Middle Earth to single handedly defeat Sauron (albeit temporarily, but it's more than anyone else can say). She is formidable in her own right, and needs no conventional weapons. But we can't possibly have a powerful character, be it clearly defined as male or female, unless they're wielding a pointy phallic symbol that they get to stick inside their enemies. It's so clearly symbolic. Besides, these are Elves, not humans. No character should have to embrace society's outmoded idea of masculine prowess in order to be perceived as powerful.
Image found: https://pin.it/2eQ4n8d
I'll give them a little credit in taking SOME care in casting and costuming Morfydd Clark to look somewhat like Cate Blanchett's Galadriel...the Galadriel we have all come to know and love. Why couldn't they do this with Elrond too? Why do we get stuck with this subpar version of our beloved Lord of Imladris? And for clarification, I have no issue with the actor...and I don't agree with making fun of him or his looks. Hugo Weaving has a very unique face that is probably hard to match. But literally all they had to do was (at the very least) give Robert Aramayo long black hair. Why is that so difficult?
I’m not sure who created this. If anyone wants to let me know I will gladly edit and give credit.
...but I digress.
The Non-binary community doesn't have much representation in the media as it is....and this series seems as though they're seeking to erase what little we have. I'm furious. I'm actually sick over this. Why isn't anyone else? Where are my fellow Non-binary Tolkien fans?

off the rack #1288
Monday, November 18, 2019
Winter arrived early this year and is here to stay. I started a project yesterday going through our photo albums and labelling them to help when we want to look for a particular picture. I ended up scanning a bunch to send to friends and family to share in a bit of nostalgia. It was fun going down memory lane.
The Immortal Hulk #26 - Al Ewing (writer) Joe Bennett (pencils) Ruy Jose (inks) Paul Mounts (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). So Bruce/Hulk has commandeered a Shadow Base site and has declared that he and his supporters are going to change the world. He spends a lot of time arguing with one potential ally while another ally listens in. Meanwhile the media paints Bruce as a terrorist and the far right go on the attack. I have an interest in current world affairs and this book reflects what is happening right now, which makes for a very interesting read. The Hulk isn't going to rampage willy nilly but has a specific target in mind.
Guardians of the Galaxy #11 - Donny Cates (writer) Cory Smith (pencils) Victor Olazaba (inks) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This is a very quick read since it is mostly good guys fighting bad guys and setting up next issue's conclusion where someone saves the day.
Detective Comics #1015 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Doug Mahnke & Jose Luis (pencils) Christian Alamy, Keith Champagne, Mark Irwin & Matt Santorelli (inks) David Baron (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). Mister Freeze successfully resurrects his wife Nora and then throws her into the deep end of crime. I can't blame her for going off the deep end and kicking Victor to the curb. Meanwhile, Batman, Lucius and Alfred race to find a cure for the innocent victims that got frozen. Will Mister Freeze help? The art in this issue really stood out.
Event Leviathan #6 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Alex Maleev (art) Josh Reed (letters). The identity of Leviathan is revealed and it's no one that I know. You're going to have to Google Mark Shaw to learn more. I care more about what he and his minions are going to do next.
Runaways #27 - Rainbow Rowell (writer) Kris Anka (pencils) Kris Anka & Walden Wong (inks) Dee Cunniffe & Jim Campbell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The kids don costumes and head out to fight crime with Doc Justice. Cosplayers are happy.
Punisher Soviet #1 - Garth Ennis (writer) Jacen Burrows (pencils) Guillermo Ortego (inks) Nolan Woodard (colours) Rob Steen (letters). Punisher fans rejoice. This is a top notch team telling a two-fisted tale of Frank versus the Russian mob. Throw in a copycat crime fighter and I'm hooked for the rest of this 6-issue mini. Welcome back Garth.
Elfquest Stargazer's Hunt #1 - Wendy and Richard Pini (story) Sonny Strait (art) Nate Piekos (letters). The more things change, the more Elfquest stays the same. I recognised these elves immediately and decided to see what's up with them since I was really into Cutter and Skywise from the very beginning going back forty years. We catch up with Skywise in this new story. He's got a young daughter now and lives in a peaceful fairy land called Starhome. If you like pure fantasy you should give this a try
Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy #3 - Jody Houser (writer) Adriana Melo (pencils) Mark Morales (inks) Hi-Fi (colours) Gabriela Downie (letters). The girls going to the Mad Hatter for help wasn't a good idea. Jervis almost manages to control them for his own nefarious purposes. Now they're on the road again to who knows where. I'm hitching along.
Black Cat Annual #1 - Jed MacKay (writer) Joey Vazquez (art: Felicia & Peter) Natacha Bustos (art: Bruno) Juan Gedeon (art: Dr. Korpse) Brian Reber (colours) Ferran Delgado (letters). This is three separate capers rolled into one big heist. Spider-Man and the Black Cat get married in order to facilitate the robbery. I liked how everything interconnected and how Peter was conned into helping. This is one annual worth picking up.
Catwoman #17 - Joelle Jones (story & art) Laura Allred (colours) Saida Temofonte (letters). Oh man, am I ever glad I didn't bench this book when Joelle went on hiatus. When she writes and draws a book the product is far superior than most. From the cover to the very last page this issue gave me shivers. We're resuming Selina's battle with the crazy Creel woman and Catwoman is going to have a little help from a friend. I can't wait to read the next issue.
Fallen Angels #1 - Bryan Hill (writer) Szymon Kudranski (art) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). The four pages before the credits page absolutely captivated me and then the rest of the issue grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and didn't let go. I was wondering what the heck happened to Psylocke (real name Kwannon) after reading Excalibur #1 and here we have answers. She's leading a new team of mutants going after a very deadly villain by the name of Apoth. So far she's recruited Laura/X-23 and young Nathan/Cable. This title gets added to my "must read" list.
Far Sector #1 - N. K. Jemisin (writer) Jamal Campbell (art) Deron Bennett (letters). This new comic by the award winning science fiction and fantasy author introduces us to Green Lantern Mullein. She's investigating a murder in a city where three alien races co-existed peacefully until now. It's the first murder in 5 centuries in a city with 20 billion citizens. This book lost me right there with that unbelievable stat. The art is absolutely gorgeous but a rookie Green Lantern dealing with this crime is too far-fetched for me. If this were a regular detective in a regular city I might have continued reading. I just don't buy a green Green Lantern in an idyllic world.
The Dollhouse Family #1 - M. R. Carey (writer) Peter Gross (layouts) Vince Locke (finishes) Cris Peter (colours) Todd Klein (letters). This is one creepy comic book about a 19th Century dollhouse bequeathed to a little girl in England in the early eighties. There's magic involved when the girl can shrink and play with the dolls in the house. There's the mystery of where the dollhouse comes from. The creepy part is the Black Room in the house. This issue starts with a crash landing and ends with the punishment of an abusive husband. I am very intrigued.
Morbius #1 - Vita Ayala (writer) Marcelo Ferreira (pencils) Roberto Poggi (inks) Dono Sanchez-Almara (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Michael the living vampire is back on the racks and he's still trying to cure himself of his bloodlust. This starts off with a dumb costumed mad scientist villain followed by Morbius attacking the bad guy's henchmen all to abscond with the experimental serum that might cure him. They never establish what the bad guy's serum was going to do, which made the effect on Morbius predictable at the end of this issue. The only thing that might get me to read more is the hot blonde vampire hunter who shows up and the art in this was superb.
X-Men #2 - Jonathan Hickman (writer) Leinil Francis Yu (pencils) Gerry Alanguilan (inks) Sunny Gho (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Boy, Jonathan Hickman isn't coasting with these mutants. First (spoiler alert) he kills off a major character and now he's adding even more intrigue with a mating of Krakoa and another island. All mutants, good and not so good, were brought together on Krakoa but I always wondered when the not so good ones would start to do not so good things. Apocalypse steps to the fore here. I liked how Cyclops and his kids behaved during their mission to explore the new island.
The Batman's Grave #2 - Warren Ellis (writer) Bryan Hitch (art) Alex Sinclair (colours) Richard Starkings (letters). The art does most of the heavy lifting with nary a caption or word balloon in the first 12 pages. Bryan's pages looked great. Warren then weighs in with a summons for Batman from Commissioner Gordon using the Bat signal. A crooked lawyer has been murdered. I like when Batman plays detective.
Future Foundation #4 - Jeremy Whitley (writer) Alti Firmansyah (art) Triona Farrell (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Can the kids keep evil Reed from getting a piece of the Miracle Man? Looks like it. But wait, there's more. Next issue's conclusion to this story should be just as exciting as this one.
Joker: Killer Smile #1 - Jeff Lemire (writer) Andrea Sorrentino (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Steve Wands (letters). I'm always willing to try a new book when I see Jeff Lemire's name in the credits because he usually manages to entertain me. I'm not a big fan of the clown prince of crime especially after the Joker became darker and started to kill people. This is the story of Doctor Ben Arnell, a psychologist trying to cure the Joker after the killer's most recent incarceration in Arkham Asylum. It's a story of mind games where a good man finds himself succumbing to the influence of evil. This is another good DC Black Label book worth reading.

101 Dragon Age Questions
Going to answer it because I’m waiting for dinner
How did you get into Dragon Age? A friend of mine got a Bioware bundle I think, and gave me Origins.
Have you finished all three games? Nope, Currently starting Trespasser and at the beginning of DA2 (finished Origins)
How long did it take you to finish the series? I can say it took me around 50-ish hours to finish Origins and I’m currently at 105h on Inquisition.
What was your first Warden (gender/class/race/personality)? Curiously enough, it was a female mage elf. But since you can’t marry Alistair with that warden, I started a new game with a Warrior Female Human, Ellyah Cousland. Personality wise, I usually go for the dork sarcastic and maybe a tiny violent dialog. I can’t really remember, it was 2 years ago :T
What was your first Hawke like (gender/class/temperament)? First Hawke was a male mage, I actually forgot his name, with the sarcastic temperament. Best.Hawke.Ever
First Inquisitor (gender/class/race/personality)? Mage \female (my headcanon, they are agender but we have to choose one so YEH)\, again with the sarcasm violent dork. Also another headcanon, they aren’t a Lavellan, but a Mahariel (dalish origin from Origins), but that’s another story.
Favorite DA:O backstory? I only played the dalish mage and the noble warrior, so I’m going with the second one.
Preferred class overall? Mage. I wish they were stronger ;_;
Do you tend to play male or female characters most? Good question. I’d say it’s 50/50. Right now I have 2 male inquisitors created, and 1 female (let’s make it 2 then). on Origins I’ve only played female, on DA2 I’ve only played with males.
Share a pic of your favorite OC from any DA game. My “Lavellan”
Best Hawke quote? I have no idea, he’s a fun ball, all of them???
Do you prefer DA:O, DA2, or DA:I most? DA:O for nostalgia, DA:I for gameplay, DA2 for Handers
Favorite mission from DA:O? not the fade
Favorite DA:O party combo? Alistair, Morrigan and Zevran
Favorite DA:O companion overall? Alistair ;3c
DA:O: Did your Warden survive? She sure did
What did you name your Mabari? ...............I CAN’T REMEMBER????
Who did you choose to rule Fereldan? Alistair and Cousland duh
Favorite mission from DA2? can’t say yet
Was everyone loyal at the end? ladada da da dididada
Did Hawke side with the Mages or Templars? Mages
Favorite DA2 party combo? Anders, Fenris and Isabella
Did you give Fenris back to Danarius? I doubt I will
Favorite main-story quest from DA:I? ooooOOOOOOOOH LET’S SEE, anything about the elves makes my heart pound faster. I LOVED the Here Lies the Abyss!!!
Favorite DA:I place? Anything elf-like. Really. It’s where I was happy
Did your Inquisitor choose the Mages or the Templars? Mages
Which did you leave behind (Abyss)? Hawke. Here’s why: Anders died and I wanted him to join him in Andraste’s bosom. Besides, Strout had to restore the Wardens.
Inquisitor’s feelings on being the Herald of Andraste? They don’t believe in it, but if the people want to, then what can they do? (aside from denying it every time)
What are your feelings on the Chantry? I’m going to skip this one sorry
What are your feelings on the Circle? Needs retirement tbh
DLC for the first 2 games: All of it, some of it, or none of it? All of them I guess?
Favorite DLC mission overall? from the first game? I’ve only played the Shale one so I’ll go with that one, besides I love her from da:I I loved the last part of JoH, but I’m sure Trespasser will kill me
Favorite DA character overall? wHY. DA:O - Alistair, Morrigan, Shale, Zevran, Barkspawn DA2 - Anders, Merril, Isabella, Varric, Sebastian for the looks (I’m sorry I don’t know him yet), sometimes Fenris DA:I - Cullen, Samson, Solas, Bull, Sera, Harding, Cassandra, Ameridan, Dorian, Nug King, I’m pretty sure I’m forgetting someone
Least favorite character? DA:O - Howe DA2 - hmm? DA:I - eh
Who do you want to see return in the next game? Zevran. For sure.
What kind of DLC do you hope for for DA4 (heh)? something about the return of the Warden?
Bloodmagic: yes or no? it’s a yay for me, my Mahariel is a bloodmage. Again, it’s a type of magic that depends on how you use it.
Funniest moment in the games? for starters, when you go talk to your companions on Trespasser? I cry. The avvar-goat-situation. The Bull x Quizzy x companions moment (yes, that one) I...can’t remember anything else
Creepiest moment in the games? BROODMOTHER
A moment/action you regret in-game? Sentencing that stupid dude to tranquility in Inquisition. KINDA goes against what Mahariel is, BUT it’s still in character but eeh
Who did you romance in your first playthrough for each game? DA:O - Alistair DA2 - was going for Fenris but ended up Anders DA:I - Cullen
Who do you wish you could romance that you can’t? SAMSON AND KREM
Favorite romance overall so far? Alistair and Cullen. Dorian and Bull next.
One romance you just can’t stand/doesn’t make sense/etc? none. Everything makes sense so shush
Which 3 DA characters would you want as your best friends? Krem, hmmmm I guess Bull and I DUNNO Anders because we could talk about cats
A character you’d love to drop in a volcano and forget about? Solas (I kid, I love you my egg nug) the BROODMOTHER
Best antagonist in the series? Coryphallus
Worst antagonist in the series? Howe. Annoying prick
Something you do in EVERY DA playthrough, no matter what? ............romance the cute dork????????????
Describe your perfect playthrough for any DA game. Ay mate, I don’t know, I like the way things are eXCEPT, give us poly romances plz
Favorite Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor headcanons (any or all)? oH BOY HERE WE GO My Lavellan\Mahariel is in a poly relationship with Cullen and Samson :B My Lavellan\Mahariel actually started on Origins, as a fake warden, went to DA2 and ended up helping Anders blow up the chantry and then went to the inquisition to help with Corypoopalus
Favorite non-Player Character headcanons? Samson redeems himself and continues to help mages in a legal safe way ;U;
That One Headcanon that hurts to think about? @weirdsal ‘s Qunari dying
Fluffiest headcanon ever? OK SO HEAR ME OUT, Cullen is dozing off on a bed and Samson goes in for the cuddles and after Mahariel goes for the extra cuddles and it ends up in a pile of limbs and love and everyone is happy and they have a Mabari called Pepper
Your non-Player Character OTPs? Krem x anyone that makes him feel happy
Your absolutely NOTP? I don’t know?
Who would you date if you could (as you, not your OC)? bweheheheh I DON’T REALLY KNOW??? Cullen
Who has the best character arc overall? hmMMM Samson
Who was written really poorly? good question, I have no idea
Who do you wish had been given more story? Samson :B
Favorite NPC? ..........guess
A character you think deserves more fan love? SAMSON
Best story moment? I’ll come back to this one

Ameridan Ghilan voted softest man of the Divine Age, big ass trees, past and present looking each other in the eye and realizing nothing has changed, a man extremely excited about buckles (relatable), the passage of time inexorably smoothing out the uncomfortable details, LOVE!!, and other stuff I guess.
#Some things really never change huh.#cate draws elves#this is a sub-category called:#sad old magic men and their sad old magic problems#this week:#inquisitor ameridan#what would a dalish-orlesian man wear 800 years ago to hunt a dragon god?#dragon age#dai#jaws of hakkon#beesart
