WHUMPTOBER DAY 1: RACE AGAINST THE CLOCK
Magic cannot be contained. Or gotten rid of.
When The Isle of the Lost was created 25 years ago, the rulers expected some minor consequences. They never expected the Endless Catacombs of Doom or the trials within them.
Countless victories, countless deaths. The labyrinth won't be satisfied until a member of every hero and villain family in the land has passed its tests. Red, on the other hand, won't be satisfied until she gets her annoying partner for the trials out of her hair... at least, she thinks so at first. And Chloe won't be satisfied until she's proven herself to her family... and maybe her new friend, too.
🜋🜋🜋🜋🜋🜋
Super excited to be participating in Whumptober for the first time!! This Glassheart take on the Endless Catacombs from Return to the Isle of the Lost has been marinating in my head for a MINUTE.
Mind the tags and happy reading :D

you have a bunch of posts about vampires- have you ever considered writing a vampire story? i adore your writing and would love to see your take on it
so, to be perfectly honest that probably is more a reflection of what the people i follow have been posting/rebloging about recently than what i'm specifically working on, but i have for sure considered writing a vampire story.
100% i do lov vampire stories but most of my vampire ideas tend to spiral out into longer stories and i have so many story ideas in general, they just sort of haven't happened yet and i hav no idea when i'll finally get around to writing them.
See below for my current vampiric ideas (including vampire powers/blood drinking as well as actual vampires):
This would be a combo where basically demons grow up by sort of merging together/fighting/eating each other and usually its the same species/type that do so until they're like an adult of that species, but the MC is actually a combo of a couple types and so switches between/has a bit of a split personality. he's trying to find a partner to satisfy all of the sides of himself, one of which is a vampiric demon. Reader needs money and they find each other through an online site, vampire side is the first one they meet. very NSFW focused.
There;s a one about a reader who grew up groomed to be a priestess/sacrifice type person for a god of healing but the cult did the ritual wrong and so they can only heal themselves instead of others. They are then offered up and claimed by a god of war to serve their head priest who needs to drink blood to sustain himself but has survivers guilt and ptsd and all sorts of other shit who's trying rly hard not to use the reader, who's desperate for a purpose now that their ordained one has been snatched away and a little to eager to be used.
Patronage i've mentioned where a desperate country sacrifices blood, sweat, and tears to summon their countries patron saint which works before they actually sacrifice the queen's life. now he's helping them out but he does still need some of those sacrifices from her to stick around.
three noble families did a super shady magical ritual that fucked them all up and then they were isolated from the rest of the kingdom and each other but the barriers are fraying and going to come down soon. the magical heir and the vampire heir and the werewolf heir are all in some sort of situation-ship thats about to come to a head.
The modern exploration/documentation of a catacomb woke up a vampire who was sleeping. Reader trades knowledge of current catacombs project for some more context/history of the place formt he vampire. There's a rival vampire that conspired to keep the other one asleep, reader gets caught in the middle of that. There's a fight the love interest vampire wins but now he's thirsty 👀😉
High status Vampire, who'd only recently woken up in modern times, hires destitute werewolf with family issues to be her bodyguard, assistant, and blood bag, just for a temporary span of time while getting settled. no one will catch feelings of course.
college students who use the same deep basement study desks become friends. Vampire is on his nth degree, reader is some sort of engineering student? supernatural is known but sort dont ask don't tell; considered very dangerous. they become friends/flirty but all comes to a head when they meet at a club instead of the library.
Reader who's been hanging out with a shady group of 'friends' at university is injured in a hazing prank. because said shady group was rly into lik supernatural/crypid shit, reader decides it would b funny to pretend that they were attacked/saved by a vamp after said incident except they play it too well because an actual vamp shows up and is lik who the fuck is being so sloppy with you as their thrall, its gonna giv us away and reader is lik wtf do u mean vamps are real? reader ends up signing up to be a vamp thrall (idiot vamps sister) for real (for the Health Benefits/apartment).
Some of these would be short stories but some are like full length novel ideas. All are in various stages of outlining/notes/writing.
I'm so behind on writing my stories because of work/life, but i'm happy to talk more about any of them lol
i'm so glad you enjoy my writing and i'm super into vampires, just never enough time in the day to write everything i want to write
#asks#writing asks#vampires#vampiric#my writing ideas#my story ideas#u would not believe how many ideas for stories i have#its ridiculous#the last one is the most recent idea and has been on the top of my mind#there would be two books focusing more on each of them#theres a vampiric death game thing in the second one#catacombs ones came about cuz i went to some roman catacombs last year and had Thoughts#the priestess/sacrifice one is also high on my own list#the demon with 5 demon forms is my bedtime story to myself lmao

Helloooooo there, peeps!
Yes, it's been a long while, PhD left me really really tired and I'm slooowly but surely regaining my love for drawing and make comics.
Aside from Bram & Vlad, which is the main thing I would post in English for almost ten years, my main things recently have been my new comic (I'm not kidding when I say I've taking it SLOW), Victoria Harvey's Chrisopoeia (I'm translating it to English, will likely post it here and on tapas, where the pt-br version currently is) and the first book I published, Noturno em Sol Maior (Nocturne in Sol Major).
After afew years of not wanting very much to draw, I'm in a doodly mood again, expect a few here and there.
How have y'all been doing?
(No, I'm not posting again on tumblr because Musk's stupidly broke a Brazilian law and was forced to shut his services down here, amazingly enough. My last relevant twitter post was in 2021 or 2022 tops, because it started to feel that it was just me throwing posts at the abyss, and what was staring back was actually marketing bots.)

Into the catacomb Where only ghosts would roam I went to find an ancient tome. Only this book is holding Every answer that would bring Satisfaction like a blessing. Yet, there was no contentment But another ailment That halts advancement. How the curiosity still grows Within my mind like woes That nobody can ever dispose.

The instant you enter the chamber, sparks fly from the fingers of an incredibly ancient elven wizard. The sparks don't do any particular damage, but they certainly serve notice that you're not welcome here.
Glancing quickly around the magician's combination laboratory and library, you see many magical items: floating potion bottles, spellbooks, scrolls, a five-pointed star and circle inscribed on the floor, jars of spell components, and even several pairs of mysterious eyes peering at you from atop a bookshelf. And watching each move you make is a small, curious reptile, clearly the familiar of the wizard.
Suddenly the sparks change color, and you sense that they are steadily becoming more dangerous. Do you want to quickly try to talk to the wizard? Turn to 113A. If you want to use your own magical weapons against the old elf, turn to 68D. Or do you want to pretend he's not there, and just look around as quickly as possible and get out? If that sounds good to you, turn to 92A.
The wizard's laboratory is one of the first rooms you can access from the faerie king's throne room. Unsurprisingly for this book, it is full of ways to teleport yourself somewhere else before you get a good look at everything.

my fav byzantine fact is when they would destroy everything that had to do with pagan religion and even killed people who weren't christian <3
Did you forget that Polytheists oppressed, persecuted and killed Christians first, for THREE HUNDRED years.
Hiding in the catacombs, getting murdered, honoring the Christian martyrs... you think Christians did these things as a hobby? 😂In the Roman Empire policy towards Christians was that they would be punished if they refused to worship the emperor and the gods. Christians were actively forced to worship gods they didn't want to worship. By the Polytheists.
Sorry to offend your little uwu cute ancient polytheists but 1) they did bride kidnappings 2) they threw "deformed" kids off cliffs 3) religious stories and depictions of rape were A Thing, endorsing a Rape Culture in many ways (I had a whole post with scientific papers about that) 4) pederasty (with young boys!) existed 5) gay men were literally called "those who drag shame with them" 6) cheating was socially acceptable for Greek men while the less the woman came out of her house, the better 7) slaves were far lesser than them compared to when Christianity came 8) oh and... THEY KILLED PEOPLE WHO WEREN'T POLYTHEISTS. Aka the Christians.
Don't get me wrong, persecution of any type is abominable. I want people to let other people worship in peace. I just listed all the above because you seem to ignore there was great hostility between Polytheists and Christians (which ultimately led to many deaths) for a reason. And the Polytheists started it. The first religious persecution ever in the Helladic area was that of Christians. By the Polytheists.
My point is....Before you completely cancel another group for doing something, maybe consider if "your" group has done it too, and maybe... did it first? Christianity has a long list of bad things but Hellenic Polytheism has a grim past, too, filled with the same crimes if not some more. There was a reason people were becoming Christians in droves*. Underprivileged groups finally saw the prospect of a better life compared to the Polytheistic faiths they were in. The first European to get baptized was a Greek young woman.
*It's estimated that there were fewer than 10,000 Christians in the year 100. Christianity grew to about 200,000 by the year 200, and then to almost 2 million by 250.
I said that I hate that people were killed for their faith (!!!), and this goes for Polytheists too (!!!). I also detest any destroying of buildings and manuscripts (which indeed happened). But, in this case, what would you like me to do??? Start beef with the long-dead Leonid dynasty or something? 😂 Which dynasty do you want me to spank? Tell me and I'll dig them uuup
Okay, hear me out... I will throw away the whole of the Byzantine Empire for the Polytheists it killed if you throw the whole Roman world away for the Christians it killed. Let's cancel EVERY culture for killing Polytheists, Hebrews, Christians, Zoroastrians and Muslims. (note: Persecution of Christianity is still going on in some countries, and it never stopped) Yes?
Also, no, Christians did not destroy everything related to Polytheism. Did you seriously come to my asks with the knowledge of a bitter scorned 16 y/o who read one single sentence from their history book?
The reason ancient Hellenic Epics and other classic works have survived is mainly that Christian Hellenes passed them down and copied them in their libraries and monasteries. The Greeks/and Eastern Romans they were actively reading and discussing the ancient works, and based their own research and philosophy on them. Arabs in the middle ages translated tons of still-existing (!) ancient manuscripts from Greek to their language. The reason Europe remembered these works, too, was the Hellenes who brought the still-existing (!) ancient manuscripts with them in the freaking 15th century to Europe after escaping Constantinople.
#brb going to hide in the catacombs for a cutsy weekend#I dislike many things about Orthodoxy but daaamn man#you are not clever when you point out Some People In The Past Did Bad Things#read some more history books or sth#answered

"Yeah Mr White I've got it figured out. I'm not completely stupid. *sigh* Hela is powerful because she's the Goddess of death, and she is tied to wherever the dead are buried. And so she gets her power from Asgard...because Asgard is like a breeding ground for coffin flies. Because of all the slaves in mass graves, bitch"
* grabs your shoulders and shakes you like a ragdoll* Jesse. JESSE . Listen to me. You are completely stupid! Because you're forgetting ONE! One very important thing. Do you seriously think all the dead in Asgard are buried under a castle????? NO! No. No. Hahaha. No. They were. But NOW they burn their dead ...at sea! They burn them at sea, Jesse! Why do you think they do that, huh? HUH?! Because Odin KNOWS burying them will make her more powerful!!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?!??
#came to a profound realization while watching thor:ragnarok#because yeah the ancient catacombs dont make sense continuity-wise#with an actual asgardian funeral being shown in thor: the dark world. being burned at sea#it doesnt make sense UNLESS you consider the reason for why a culture would suddenly change burial practices#like in my book how the Liirs only started being buried in the outdoors 300 years ago#because slavery ended#when slavery was still happening the Liirs buried their dead in catacombs as a symbolic way of preserving their souls from captivity#but anyway. hela is the goddess of death and her getting power from Asgard-only doesnt make sense#so i think she gets her power from whenever the dead are buried#the more death there is. the more powerful she becomes#and asgard being a genocidal colonialist state built on the bones of slaves? jesus fucking christ#this actually explains odins sudden shift to pacifism#thor: ragnarok#man this movie couldve been so good#hela marvel#mcu hela#marvel#sorry for marvelposting :(#jaspers prattling
