He might be the slowlest Belmont to have ever lived (until his son gets in danger), but you can't deny his theme SLAPS.

Some of humanity's greatest achievements:
Some millenia ago: Dude if you rub two sticks together this weird, wavy and hot red thing comes out!
Some centuries ago: Isaac Newton: Hmm...so this is why objects fall towards the ground huh?
The 1960s: One small step for man, one giant step for mankind!
Roughly during 2005: "Dude what if we stick Michiru Yamane and Yuzo Koshiro in a room together and see what happens?"
Sometimes, it is time to reject all discourse, and go back to Invitation of a Crazed Moon

We didn't deserve Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (2006) 😔

Random tiny details I like a lot in CV4:
- you can be killed by frogs
- also tables
- and falling off the stairs
- Simon sometimes moonwalks on the stairs
- Simon really has trouble with stairs doesn’t he
- there’s a particular brick pattern in one of the backgrounds that looks like teeth
- 3/4 hanging skeletons can be ducked under without having to kill them
- if you stand in place with the whip held over your head none of Deaths projectiles can hit you
- the cute little bugs on the title screen
- the ghost dancers are named Paula Abgoul and Fred Ascare (hehehe puns)
- that bone horse in the background of the first level
- Simon just kinda flails the whip around with wild abandon when “spinning” it, like it’s barely a spin bro is just panicking
- hehehehe Simon swing!!! It’s so fun
- a lot of enemies are taller than Simon
- the sound when you jump off a treasure chest
- almost all the hand enemies don’t do any damage they just hold you in one spot
- secret room!
- the end use of Simon’s theme of course, still sad there’s no curse of man/second phase tho
There’s more but like man it’s the little things, I love this game I’m replaying it again that’s the whole context for this lol

Okay I know we all like to dunk on the Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance soundtrack for how it is pretty much original Gameboy quality sound on the GBA, but this song legitimately is really good IMO
If the link doesn't work and anyone actually wants to hear it, it's "Successor of Fate" from that game. The beginning kinda has Ace Attorney vibes tbh? That applies to several songs actually, like "Offense and Defense" too.

This Women's History Month I'd like to shout out two of Japan's, nay, THE WORLD'S best composers of all time.
Yoko Shimomura and Michiru Yamane make music that can give the classical composers that inspired them a run for their money.
Shimomura gave us the soundtracks for Super Mario RPG, Kingdom Hearts and its sequels, the Mario & Luigi RPGs, and many others.
Yamane on the other hand IS Castlevania music, from Bloodlines to Order of Ecclesia, with Symphony of the Night being a standout, not to mention she also composed many tracks for Rocket Knight Adventures and Goemon 2.
You want to listen to their work, check out the games I've mentioned, or at least listen to the soundtracks of Super Mario RPG, Castlevania Bloodlines and Symphony of the Night, and Kingdom Hearts in particular.

i thought the visual design of the first Castlevania show was really generic-looking, so the character design & environment visuals of Nocturne look like a wonderful breath of fresh air, going by the trailer anyway. gimme those big collar 1790s overcoats
