personal fandom history

So there’s been some tough stuff in my life lately (I mean, in addition to the pandemic), and in the spirit of self-distraction, I decided to go back and try and work out some basic info about my participation in fandom. Because why not. It’s been about 22 1/2 years and I was curious.

feel good friday recs: things that are making me happy this week

as you may have noticed, I’m a big fan of long nature walks and this is the ideal time of year for them! if you’re in the dmv, bull run regional park (closed, but trails still open for foot traffic) has the highest concentration of virginia bluebells in the country. and it’s just a stone’s throw from manassas battlefield if you’re a civil war buff

other parks I’ve been hitting up (safe, social-distancing style): hemlock overlook (more bluebells), and gabrielson gardens (hella toads!)

I figured out how to use kast, which took a while but has been great and I highly recommend it

my roommate and I have been doing a studio ghibli/miyazaki marathon/rewatch, with a different one every night. so far we’ve crossed Kiki’s Delivery Service, Howl’s Moving Castle, and Ponyo off the list. feel free to hit me with your ghibli recs or just talk to me which one is your fave and why (roommate’s favorite is Princess Mononoke; mine is Nausicaa)

my Squad from a previous fandom did a Contagion movie night, as you do.

and @flowerslut​ and @squigglegigs​ helped me develop and beta test the Eclipse Drinking Game, which will debut as soon as I get my shit together! we might fuck around and watch The Lighthouse this weekend

speaking of which, Popcorntime is a great source of movies if you have a good connection and a vpn

in games, I cannot stress enough how much you need to own Throw Throw Burrito. I bought it on a total whim a few months ago and boy am I glad I did. it’s Spoons but you bludgeon your friends/family/quarantine buddy with burritos. literally the perfect game

in recipes, I’m digging these junior mint chocolate chip cookies, which I’ve been coating with crushed up candy canes because why not

in books, I’m on #2 of N.K. Jemisin’s Inheritance Trilogy, which you should read along with the rest of her work because she’s brilliant and the absolute GOAT

in fic, make sure you’re caught up on @goldeneyedgirl​‘s Twilight Ficathon 2020! some gorgeous works in there including one by yours truly. I plan to post a bunch more in the coming weeks!
