If I may add some photos from the Catalan Countries:
Town of Castellfollit de la Roca, Catalonia. Photo.
And there's many chapels built on cliff-sides here, too.
Mare de Déu de la Balma sanctuary in Sorita, Valencian Country. Chapel in this place since at least 1380, most of the building we see today was built in the 16th to 18th centuries. Photos: 1, 2, 3.
Sant Salvador chapel in Pontons, Catalonia. Built in the 14th century. Photo.
Mare de Déu de la Pertusa chapel in Àger, Catalonia. Photo.
Holy cave of Montserrat. Photo. Sant Dimes chapel in Montserrat. Photo. Catalonia.
humans really went off with building on precipitous rock faces

📍Spain.
A medieval Town in Spain built in the top of a rock.
Castellfollit de la Roca is a municipality in the La Garrocha region, in the province of Girona. It is part of the judicial district of the neighboring town of Olot. As is usually the case when towns are set in breathtaking spots, the location is a result of unique geologic activity.
