SHADOWHUNTER FANS I NEED HELP
I had no idea the kickstarted for the seasons of Shadowhunters existed until like last month & I need to know if I can still get the books, but I can’t find information anywhere to tell me if I can or can’t. I really don’t want to miss out on these!

Ok like the Cassie Clare Kickstarter is insane
You can currently, for a limited time cause there's one set left, but every Shadowhunter Chronicles book, in hardcover signed by Cassie, for 5K! 4 out of the five slots have already been sold!
Like I'm a Cassandra Clare fan, I'd kill for those signed books, I really really would, but like, I also know the meaning of money! I could spend multiple days in Disney World for that much money! I could fly first class to Europe on a fancy airline for that much money! I mean seriously you could make a Thanksgiving dinner for a town with that much money! Who has that much money to spend Cassandra Clare books? I'm not judging, I'm genuinely curious.
Here's the kickstarter link for anyone who's interested in the actual kickstarter related books. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cassandraclare/seasons-of-shadowhunters/description

OH MY FUCKING GOD
letters unsent
Ty, Ty, Ty.
Your name looks strange written out like that. Like an abbreviation. But Tiberius would be so formal. I never think of you that way. Or, I suppose I should say, I never thought of you that way. Tenses matter in these situations, I guess.
It’s late, past midnight, and I’m sitting on the windowsill in my bedroom at Cirenworth....

A lot of the “spicy” romansce fantasy authors that kind of pioneered the sub genre (SJM, Jennifer l armentrout, laura thalassa etc) all started in YA, and then in mid series, they shifted and grew with their audience to go more adult in themes.
Do you think Cassandra Clare should have done the same thing and missed this opportunity? Would you have preferred if she reflected this? I personally feel like her fandom would still be as strong as ever if she followed her colleagues suit.
Or do you think that she stayed good sticking to her roots and her writing voice lends itself to not have more adult type of romances and benefits from a fade to black shall we say.
In her latest kickstarter, one of the four novels that are in it, will feature 10 spicy romantic couples from shadow hunters universe. Given this is crowd funded it makes me wonder if, if it were up to her, she would have gone more adult themed but her publishing contract held her back from it. But then from a publishers pov, isn’t that shooting yourself in the foot? All the authors I mentioned above changed their contracts I feel to reflect the direction the audience knew would give the most captain gain.
I would love to know your thoughts on this 🤭.
I don't think Cassie ever wanted to write romantasy or spicy romance-fantasy as her main "vocation".
I think I picked up on this when she deleted a lot of Julian and Emma smut scenes from The Dark Artifices because they didn't serve the progress of the story. Cassie has her indulgences, but she tends to not be overly focused on writing romance or smut in the grander scheme of the fantasy story. Cassie's guilty pleasure in writing seems to be writing semi-unnecessary angst and fluff between close friends more than anything, not spice.
I'm quite glad we're getting some spice from the Kickstarter project, and I think the reason she's making this an additional, optional project and not part of the main series is because she knows it's just for fun; it's not her main "thing", just an additional treat.
So all in all I'm quite happy she didn't follow with the Sarah J. Maas and company trend. And frankly, neither did Cassie's close writer besties either. Neither Holly Black nor Maureen Johnson nor Sarah Rees Brennan have gone into smutty adult fantasy either, so I get why it's not Cassie's preference. Cassie seems more set on establishing herself as a "serious" high fantasy writer now, hence rubbing elbows with George RR Martin.

2. Cassie on spicy romance

But then from a publishers pov, isn’t that shooting yourself in the foot? All the authors I mentioned above changed their contracts I feel to reflect the direction the audience knew would give the most captain gain.
I would love to know your thoughts on this 🤭.
Lots to unpack here. First, SHOUTOUT TO LAURA THALASSA. That's one of my main go-to/autobuy authors! I just got the Queen of All That Dies, too, so I'm excited to chomp down into it.
Anyway, we can fangirl about Laura Thalassa later if you want (?).
I don't think Cassie's works are suited to romantasy. I say this with a lot of love to the genre - it's one of my favourites - but romantasy is... not known for its world-building. It's clear to me not just from TSC but from SC that world-building is a great delight for her. Also, I feel like she's trying to position herself as a "serious" fantasy author like George RR Martin or Diana Gabaldon. That's been the main vibe I've gotten from her SC tour.
I don't think she should have been a romantasy author, but I also don't think she should stick to YA. I talked a bit about this yesterday and in the past, too, but TLH should definitely have been an adult trilogy. None of the characters feel like teens anyway besides Lucie and maybe Jesse. Like, Cassie deadass wrote 20somethings, went "huh, gotta publish this as YA," and waved the magic want to make them 17. All those characters read as Riverdale Teens to me. Cole Sprouse at 29 in a weird hat.
Adult Urban Fantasy TLH wouldn't have written Tessa out of her own plotline. It would have unpacked Alastair's trauma and the Carstairs family dynamic more fully. 10/10 adult.
As for the Kickstarter, I don't really care about the spice level of the content. I'm going to like the ships I like, and not like the ones I don't. I'm pretty simple when it comes to this, lol. >_<

How do you feel about The Mortal Instruments nowadays? Do you remember that series fondly or is it something you consider embarrassing and cringey?
It's a mix, honestly.
I'm always going to have a soft spot for it no matter what, because I started it at around 13, and Magnus Bane was the first bisexual character I'd ever read about, let alone who explicitly defined himself as bisexual, and that was really what kickstarted my own personal journey in coming to terms with my sexuality, so I'm always gonna like it for that (also Magnus is just great, I still love him, I have literally reread The Bane Chronicles within the last twelve months). And I like most of the worldbuilding and the plots of the first two series and I enjoy most of the characters and I had a good time reading the series and going back to it on occasion. It's a good book series and decently well-written and I've enjoyed it.
But there is some stuff that's soured for me within the series. I don't think a lot of the periphery relationships were very well done, like Simon/Isabelle and Sophie/Gideon and Maia/Jordan (really a lot of what was done with Maia in regards to the love triangle and her relationship with Jordan and her independent arcs felt badly done, which becomes a whole Thing when you remember that Maia is one of only two main characters of color in the TMI cast and the only WOC). I think the reasons for the Will/Tessa/Jem love triangle were incredibly contrived and overwrought, and also I do not ship Jem and Tessa at all, it felt really forced when they got together in the present day (Will/Jem is more interesting to me far and away, that dynamic means the most to me out of the main three in TID). COHF also just felt really overcrowded and padded to oblivion in a way that it didn't need to be, and the plot kinda nonsensical, as well as the fact that keeping so much open-ended, while good for the upcoming series, made it not as good of a finale to that story that it could have been (still good, just not as good as I think it could be). And the incest thing is a lot, especially in the latter half when it wasn't just "Jace and Clary THINK they're related" but "Sebastian KNOWS he and Clary are related and keeps trying to assault her about it". It doesn't feel like it's put in there for any purpose at all except that Cassie Clare finds it hot, which, fair I guess? but kinda pointless and not the most interesting thing for me.
Also, as someone who was in the single digits when it all went down, finding out about the msscribe stuff via the When Posting Goes Wrong video in 2020, after I'd already kinda left the series behind was certainly not boosting my opinion of Cassie Clare and her work. All in all, a mixed bag. Some stuff I look back on fondly and still enjoy, and some stuff where I don't necessarily cringe, but definitely acknowledge that I'm far more critical of it now than I was at fourteen.
