I want my first bug here to be one of my favourites, Aproida balyi, also known as a very polite lady, as seen here:
Tumblr media
there is currently no common name for these guys, and from what I understand they are the only species of the tribe Aproidini/genus Aproida (they fall into the family Chrysomelidae, aka leaf beetles). they are only found in subtropical Eastern Australia. their carapace is the most vibrant green, with a lot of dents and texture!
Tumblr media
to finish off, here is a slow-motion video I captured of this female taking flight!
please let me know if you like posts like this! I'm very new to bugblr, but im so excited to have a blog to share my love of entomology with the world :)

Demon Masquerade: Lord Chrysomelidae version!
This was a Cassidi birthday post, but I forgot to post it here!!! I'm a big fan of the demon masquerade transformations from Bayonetta 3, so I tried to design a version for Chrysomelidae!! Lots of Gold Tortoise Beetle imagery because 1: Demon pact, and 2: Cassidinae is a bug girl!!!!

bug of the day (march 7 2023)
Tumblr media
The Cassidinae or tortoise beetle is apart of the Chrysomelidae family. These bugs get their nickname from their domed carapace that looks like a upper shell of a tortoise. many of these beetles have the ability to turn from shiny to matte and varying colors within seconds! this happens due to the movement of fluid within the cuticle. it is unknown wether this ability is used for mating or some sort of way to avoid predators. Another cool characteristic of tortoise beetles is a "umbrella" the the larva make from feces/frass. they can also adjust the position of their "umbrella" so that it can face a predator almost acting as a shield (hence the feces it also has a stench that keeps predators away) for more info on this amazing bug please visit the link below :D

The very beautiful Emdenia maxima.
Any keen-eyed viewers may have also noticed the larvae-like creature beneath it.

Bayo OC posting hours!!!
Rosy!Cassidinae is similar to Origin!Cassidinae (who I will refer to as Torty for bug reasons) except her parents are alive and she's more confident and has a different Pact Demon.
Rosy and Torty would get along methinks!
Also Seth is there
