I've finished an absolute delight of a bug illustration! Green Tortoise Beetle, which is now a species I'll be looking for as I'm yet to see one in person and I've been missing out!
Big thanks to @franzanth!

I wanted to make oil pastels of all these bugs that i have stories with or an affection for based off of my real life experiences with them because finding and photographing bugs brings me so much joy and i love telling the stories about the little guys i find!!

Animal of the day: Imperial tortoise beetle! (Stolas imperialis) This fascinating insect native to Brazil is widely valued for its use in jewelry. Not much is known about the species' specific habits, but it can be discerned that due to being part of the tortoise beetle family, it has similar habits to other, more well-known tortoise beetle species, such as becoming discolored upon death and having a strong maternal instinct (something rare among the beetles). That or it's a tortoise beetle. It looks like paint is splashed over it, but it's just born that way. Look at those little footsies!

NEXT UP ON THE SEPTEMBER UPDATE
Glass animals!
These real animals have transluscent properties, where their skin is see through and you're able to see their skeleton and insides... of course I tried my best to cutify them for you all!
This is a series of charms that utilises the transparency of the acrylic to make these creatures pop out, and with the addition of double sided epoxy it gives the effect of holding a real animal (pretty weird to experience!)
With 8 designs I'm sure there's some which catch your eye 👀

Bug of the Day
I was so psyched that I managed to successfully rear this Golden Tortoise Beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata) from a wee larvae with a gross poop hat (fecal shield) to this rad red sports car! And then I realized that I forgot to get baby photos, so you will just have to imagine a flat but spiky larva covered with its own waste. Or Google it :-)
