i went looking for a spanish language version of bella ciao on spotify for my cassianposting and the only things i could find were the fucking la casa de papel dance mixes... arguably the only time italian culture has really been oppressed or appropriated

Thinking about the kind of person Cassian would have grown into if there was no war, no rebellion, no 6-year old child soldier. What would he have liked to do? I think he'd have liked working with his hands. Fine carpentry, or wood cuts, or pottery. A young man living at home with his parents, maybe a little sibling or two. His parents' faces are lined after fifty hard Festian winters, years of laughter, years of raising boys. Cassian's old enough now that he doesn't cause them too much trouble--just enough. All the boys in town follow him around, call him over when he walks home from work or school to show him their crudely carved figures; he jokes with them, helps them with the finer cuts, ruffles their hair and invites them to dinner. His mother chides him for bringing home more mouths to feed, but they all know she doesn't mean it. She's no stranger to Cassian's antics and always makes a little extra when she can. And as they eat together, Cassian and his siblings and the neighborhood boys, and the parents who lived to see him become a man, there's neither echo nor mirage of a distant world of war where boys as young as five and six sat together parentless in cold, uninsulated bunkers, hungry, huddling for warmth before they have to fight again tomorrow

Title: Taste All Your Thoughts

What I love about it:

This fic came at a really hard time in my life and yet somehow reminded me how to laugh again. It’s fun and it’s sexy and the characterizations are spot on. 

The premise is that Jyn and Cassian are competing to get the most donations for an organizational charity. Deadpanprincess executed this perfectly: flirty competition; witty banter not just between Jyn & Cassian but also between Cassian & Kay; and there’s also some prize scenes between Jyn & Kay and Jyn & Bodhi. I absolutely love that Jyn is not only a linguist, but she’s written books that “saved Cassian’s life”! 

I think this quote perfectly encompasses the mood of this fic, and it’s one of my favorite lines: 

They dance around each other, smoothly stepping from one mark to the next. Cassian notes her coordination. Jyn tracks the length of his interactions. Kay records how many times they break conversation with their intended targets because they focus too closely on one another (five).

The whole fic is like a dance. Their backstories aren’t so different, their tactics for their competition are, but in the end they are both incredibly competent and incredibly attracted to each other. It’s so good! A really fun one-shot.

Title: Without Any Fear (the war is over)

What I love about it:

This was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful, from beginning to end — from the description of a sleepy spring morning to the description of glowing candles and how beautiful Cassian sees Jyn. This whole fic just fills me with a warm and happy feeling! I loved Jyn and Cassian’s quiet happiness as they look towards the future. It’s full of hope for the future and the peace at the end of the war. Wonderful fluff!

What I love about it:

This is so sweet and hilarious and very endearing at the end. It’s very striking how little Cassian smiles in the movie (not that there’s much to smile about, but still). It’s so wonderful to see two people coming together to give him more reasons to do so. Also, Kay and Jyn bonding is always delightful.
