"Cass?" his voice is soft, hoarse, broken from dehydration and disuse. A moment passes, a moment of him studying her with dull blue eyes, before his lips pull upwards in something that resembles a smirk, "Hey, you changed your hair. It looks nice. Cool." Or: After betraying Rapunzel, Cassandra decides to enlist Varian's help.

Guess who wrote more Cassarian angst!!
(It's the big battle against Zhan Tiri, and I was going for a self-sacrificing-Varian kinda thing. He's 18 heere don't worry)
"As someone who loves you I have every right to tell you how stupid that idea is." Cass yelled over her shoulder, a smile playing on her lips as she punched in the face of an advancing solider. The man crashed to the ground, already out cold. From behind her rang out the shattering of glass, followed by an explosion caused by the vials Varian was throwing. Varian, whom was back to back with her as they fought together.
She grabbed Varian's wrist without glancing at him, scanning the battlefield for places to hide, as well as any approaching enemies. While she didn't want to leave the battlefield she had to talk some sense in him, and that would be difficult here. There, she saw it; a mostly intact wall well enough out of the way.
"Hey, Cassie! I thi-hey!" Varian tried to protest, but was interrupted by Cass dragging him behind her. Her unseeming strength never ceased to amaze him, evident from his look of surprise.
Cass pulled him behind the ruins of a once homely cottage, shielding the two from the battlefield for the time being.
"Listen up," she growled. Now that she knew exactly what he was planning she was going to do everything in her power to change his mind. A difficult task, but Cass was up for the challenge. "I know you want to do the noble thing and sacrifice yourself to help everyone. Believe me, I know you well enough.  But you have to listen to me when I say that it's too dangerous for you." Cass pleaded in an angry tone. Varian began to question how that was even possible, then shrugged it off. There were more important matters at the moment, he chided himself.
"Cassie, I-" he interjected before Cass sileced him with a death glare. They were her speciality, usually reserved for Eugene. But this was a special case.
"No. No you don't know what you're doing. Look, that machine is dangerous and we don't know near enough about it. Last time we used it, yea it worked, it saved the kingdom, but it also released the minions of Zhan Tiri and led us to this. We don't know what could happen this time, and I'm not so sure we want to. Maybe I'm being overly cautious, but I don't want to see my nerd hurt or dead because of something neither of us could protect you from."
She was unknowingly gripping both of his wrists like they were the only thing supporting her, keeping her standing. Varian looked down to her, a soft smile on his face. 'My nerd, how endearing' he thought, almost saying it out loud. That was the first time he's heard that, and hearing it filled him with an unexplainable joy.
"Yes, it's dangerous but I have to do it. No one else can figure out how to work the innards of the Demanitus Device. And Cassie? I'm terrified, for myself, for you, for everyone. I don't know what will happen if I do this, but I know what'll happen if I don't. The Princess and most of the forces are busy fighting Zhan Tiri himself, Eugene and Lance are leading everyone one else against his forces. And we're losing Cassie. More of our men are falling than his, and I'm not going to see you be one of them, not when I can do something to prevent it. You're right, we don't know what will happen to me because of it but I know it's the only thing I can do."
Varian pulled Cass into a hug as he spoke, and looked down in surprise as she let him, no resistance whatsoever. She held on to him tight, afraid to let go, afraid he would be gone after this.
"Wait for me." He finally said, pulling away from the hug. "I'll come back to you, just, just please wait for me Cassie." Cass looked up to him, nodding silently, not saying to speak. She felt vulnerable, showing an of these emotions, and on the battlefield no less.
He turned to walk away from her, bracing himself for her to do something, anything to stop him. So it came as no surprise to him when she grabbed his arm and turned him back to her. What he hadn't been expecting was the kiss that followed, long and speaking lengths of Cass'love for him. It told him the things that she could never figure out how to say.
"I'll wait, just please come back to me." She whispered as she finally pulled away from Varian. Before he had a chance to answer she was gone, gone charging back into the battle alongside Eugene. She hoped he hadn't seen the tear that began to make it's way down her cheek.
Taking his cue Varian strode off towards the Demanitus Device's underground cave, willing himself to not look back.
~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~~•∆•~
"Oh goodie, the viper lady! You feel like taking some guys out?" Eugene greeted, fighting off three soliders and maintaining an effortless look.
"Why not!" Cass shouted back over the clang of swords hitting each other. She easily swept out the feet of one man and slammed the hilt of her sword into the back of the other's head. With the other two gone Eugene took down the third and final man in seconds.
"That's right fellas, nobody survives the wrath of the viper lady. Except moi, of course. It's not easy, let me tell you-" Eugene's boasting was cut off by a punch to the shoulder from Cassandra.
"Can't you be serious for once in your life, Fitzher-jerk?" She crossed her arms, giving him her death glare. Although she would never admit it out loud, especially not to Eugene of all people, she was glad to see him keeping up his aloof personality. It was refreshing in the battle
"Oh come on Cassandra, have some fun for once. We're in a battle, isn't that the one thing you love? Give that cold black heart of yours something to warm it up." As Eugene went on Cass saw another soldier heading their way, and turned to face him. Eugene's words caught her ear, and her mind thought back to Varian, her fears returning. She had no idea where he was, if he was alive or dead. It was terrifying.
The ground shook and she stumbled, nearly falling over. She righted herself at the last second and stood back up to feel a blade cutting into her arm. The pain was searing, she switched sword hands, ready to retaliate.
Instead, the man pitched forward and crashed to the ground. Eugene stood behind him, a pan in his hand and a smirk on his face. He whistled, impressed with his performance.
Eugene opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted before he could utter a word. An explosion that came out of nowhere rocked the world, the force of it pushing people to the ground.
"Where did that come from?" Cass asked as she sat up, groaning from the feeling it being thrown to the ground, a hand on her head.
"Oh, judging from the smoke I'd say the cave where the Demanitus Device is in. Although I'd say it's not there now, huh Cassandra?" Eugene replied, laughing to himself at his own joke.
"No." Cass whispered, shooting to her feet, paling more than she already was. "No, it, it can't be, Varian's in there!" She took off running towards the black cloud of smoke, hee heart and mind racing. 'He has to be alive. Please let him be alive.' She drilled the thought into her head, each word matching with the push of her feet against the ground.
There, she saw the rubble. It was a charred, smoking mess with nothing left standing. Cass rushed into the rubble without a second thought, searching for a bright blue steak.
And there is was. He was half buried, and unmoving. Cass was at his side in a second, already working on digging him out. Her brain left out how still Varian was, never reacting to the shifting heap he was on
"Cassandra, Cassandra, Cass! Listen to me, look at the kid, I'm not sure there's anything you can do for him." Eugene says lamely, tears welling up in his eyes as he shook Cass' shoulders to pull her attention away from Varian.
She turned to fire off a retort, but she was interrupted by a weak cough. She looked back to Varian, and he coughed again. He was alive. She didn't know how well he was, but he was alive.
She threw her arms around him carefully, letting tears stream freely down her face. She couldn't bring herself to care about the tears just now, there were more important things. Eugene let out a sigh of relief from behind her.
"I, I think that I may have blown up the Demanitus Device." Varian muttered, cracking his eyes open. He squinted, trying to look at the scene around him. His body shook with a coughing fit.
"Varian! I thought you were dead!" Cass said, breaking away from the hug.
"Cass-Cassie? Yea, so did I. But I, I told you I'd come back. Although I'm pretty sure I got hit in the head with a rock or something. I'm not sure if what I did even managed to stop Zhan Tiri. Sorry about that." Varian moved to sit up but Cass stopped him pushing him back down.
"You need to stay still, Var. We don't need you to make things worse for yourself. You're alive, you're here, that's what matters right now." She felt the back of his head, a huge bump evident, and she decided to keep it propped up. Eugene whistled low as he saw it.
"Wow kid, you got hit pretty hard." He commented, sinking to the ground next to him. He looked to the gathering crowd, any fighting seemingly gone with the explosion. He scanned the crowd, but saw no head of 70 feet of golden hair. He was worried about her, unsure of where she could be right now; she should have let him fight by her side. For now he prayed that whatever Varian had done had garuntee Blondie's victory.
"Eugene, is that you? Cassie why is it so dark here? Where, where are we?" Varian asked quietly, squinting in the direction he thought he'd heard Eugene's voice come from.
"What do you mean? Varian, it's the middle of the day, it's brighter than a carnival out here." Cass was beginning to worry.
"I can't see a thing. You don't think that when I got hit in the head it affected my eyes, do you? I mean that would make sense, it's only a matter of how severe it is. I have a chance is being able to see again, but we won't know until it actually happens." Varian began to ramble, trying to hide his fears that were beginning to grow.
Cass took his hand and held it tight cradling his head in her lap, being careful of the bump. She looked up to the darkness rolling in to the sky, with green lighting shooting through the sky. The storm that followed Zhan Tiri was coming. Whatever Varian did to the Demanitus Device hadn't been enough.
"Cassie? Is that you?" Varian asked weakly, straining to see her. Even just a glimpse would be fine. But all he saw was a suffocating darkness all around him, cutting him off from the world.
"It's me. I'm here for you. I'm not leaving you." She assured him, stroking his hair.
Varian smiled, his last though before slipping into oblivion being 'my Cassie'.

Cassarian Cave Scene
Remember the cave scene from the movie? Let’s recreate it with Cassarian...
Cass and Varian get trapped in a sinking boat or flooding room.
Cass: We’re gonna die. I’m gonna die. You’re gonna die. I did this! I’ve doomed is both! I-I deserve this. I’m a monster! This is all my fault again! I deserve this!
Varian: (prepares explosion; jams it into the wall) NO. YOU. DONT. (pulls cass away from blast)
They resurface.
Varian: We-we-we made it! We’re alive! Cass, we’re alive! We’re—Cass?
Cass is still heaving and holding back tears.
Cass: It’s all my fault again. I nearly killed us both.
Varian crawls beside her and puts his hand on her shoulder.
Later back at their camp.
Cass: Varian. Just answer me: did you ever stop having a crush on me?
Varian: ...
Cass: ...
Varian: ...no. I never stopped.
Cass: Oh god...
Varian: Cass I—please believe when I say that I didn’t intend to woo you or anything!
Cass: Stop! Please! Just stop.
Varian: ...
Cass: V-Varian, please just stop being so nice to me. You’re a great friend to me, but I just can’t bare it! I can’t bare breaking your heart! Every time I mess up you’re always there, even when I don’t want you there! You’re always so caring to me even though I don’t deserve it! Why can’t you just see me for the terrible person I am already!
Varian: Cassandra, that’s not true! You’re not a terrible person! You do deserve to be happy!
Cass: Varian, I roped you into risking your life for me. How am I ever supposed to pay you back?! I can’t!
Varian: ...
Cass: Varian you really are an amazing person and an amazing friend. I don’t want to be the one who hurts you if I say no. Varian, you’re chasing after someone who can never be as good as you are—someone who will never be able to do anything good for you in return. Please just stop. Before I end up hurting you. Or get you into trouble. Please. You’re the one that deserves better.
Varian: ...no, Cassandra. No. I will never believe that.
Cass: Varian—
Varian: Cass, I came here with you because I knew you were hurting and I wanted to help you. Yes, I still like you, but making sure you’re okay is far more important to me than getting you to like me back! I just want to help. That’s all I want right now. Nothing more. Nothing for me.
Cass: Varian, I’m an awful person—
Varian: I AM, TOO!
Cass: ...
Varian: I tried to kill Rapunzel! I helped conquer Corona! I broke the law and went behind the Queen herself’s back just to finish finish my machine and be a hero! I’ve done terrible things, too! But I know that no matter what happens, I can change. I can still be happy. The people I love taught me that! Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance—even you taught me that! Cass, I know what you’re feeling. And sometimes I think I don’t deserve to be happy either. But I remember that there were people in my life who cared about me so much and believed in me that I could be a better person. People who believed I could be better. People who knew there was more in me! And I believe in you, too, Cassandra. You’re not hopeless. I still know that you’re capable of getting through all this. So no matter if you break my heart, no matter what things are gonna come at us, I will still be right here to help you, Cassandra. You’re my best friend Cassandra, and I will never give up on you.

I’ve Got You
Cassarian! My favorite ‘illegal’ ship. Varian is 18 and Cass is 24. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. This takes place during CR and has a happy ending. Didn’t intend on it being shippy, but it kinda came out and I went with it. Enjoy!  💛
https://archiveofourown.org/works/26891092
"You'll stay in that cage until this is done," Cassandra spat at Varian.
She turned and walked away, not giving him another glance. Cass destroyed the painting of Rapunzel's dream and moved to sit on her throne. Fire that matched her hair rose from the ground, isolating Cass from the rest of the world; she didn't notice Varian's quiet weeping.
The sun started to set when a third figure made its way into the room.
"Good job Cassandra," a little blue girl teased. "You managed to do something right for once."
Cass bowed her head in shame, not daring to look at the demon.
"And as for you," she turned to face Varian who was still in the cage. "Tell us about the Demanitus Scroll."
"N-no," Varian whimpered.
"No?" The demon child questioned. She turned to face Cassandra. "Let him out."
"W-why?" Cass asked, afraid she already knew the answer.
"If he won't tell us willingly, then we'll have to force it out of him."
Cass and Varian both gulped, neither of them liking that answer.
"Varian, please," Cassandra begged. "Tell her what she wants."
Varian took a long look at his Cassie; her eyes were sunken, her face was deathly pale. 'Was she only eating rocks or something?' He asked himself.
"No," he repeated. "I don't even know who she is! And you nearly just tried to kill me!"
Varian's heart started to race as Cass joined the blueberry.
"Silly me, where are my manners?" The ghost joked. "I am Zhan Tiri, Lord Demanitus's sworn enemy. I require your assistance so I may get my revenge on his precious Corona."
Varian's eyes went wide, not sure if he could believe what he just heard.
"Why would I help you if you're just gonna go destroy my home!" Varian exclaimed.
"I'm just being honest. Don't you Coronan's like that?" Zhan Tiri teased.
She snapped her fingers at Cass who turned her attention back to Varian. The small smidge of confidence Varian had shattered as the rock cage fell around him. Zhan Tiri stood over him; her presence made his skin crawl. Though he knew she wasn't even four foot, it felt like a giant was looking down on him. Her face flashed and Varian held back a scream at the demonic image before him.
"Now tell me," Zhan Tiri whispered into his ear. "Will you cooperate?"
Varian gulped and forced down his tears. He summoned the last shred of his courage and said, "no."
"Well then," Zhan Tiri pouted. "Cassandra, crush him."
"What!" Cass exclaimed. Kidnapping was one thing, but she never wanted to hurt him.
"You heard me," Zhan Tiri scolded. "He has refused to cooperate and proven he is of no use to us." Zhan Tiri stopped and stared down the ex lady in waiting. "Crush. Him."
Cass's heart sank. This wasn't right. She couldn't hurt the kid, even if he wasn't really a kid anymore.
"No."
"I'm sorry, maybe it's my ghost ears but I could've sworn you told me, 'no'."
Cass swallowed. "That's right. I won't do it. I won't hurt him, and I won't let you hurt him either."
"Cassie," Varian mumbled as she stepped between him and the demon.
"Quiet Var," she hushed. Her right hand was clenched tight but the rest of her stood tall, towering over the blueberry.
"Damn," the demon tisked. "It's a shame you chose to stand against me Cassandra. We could've ruled the world. Oh well." Zhan Tiri waved her hand and Cass's eyes flashed white. She turned away from Zhan Tiri, and towards Varian.
"Cassie?" Varian asked, slowly backing away from her. She didn't respond.
Each step she took forced Varian closer and closer to the edge of the tower. Her face was blank, void of any emotion.
"Cassie Stop!" Varian shrieked when his heels hung over the edge of the tower.
"Oh she can't hear you. She's mine."
"No!" Varian cried. He put his hands out in a desperate attempt to stop Cass from advancing. "Cassie please, stop! You don't want to do this. Please."
Tears streamed down Varian's face and plummeted over the edge of the tower. His cries echoed throughout the canyon, desperate for Cass to hear him.
"I love you," Varian whimpered as he clung to Cass's body. He clenched his eyes tight and held on for dear life.
The seconds faded into minutes. Varian looked up and slowly opened his eyes. Cass looked down at him with bright green eyes, and whispered "I've got you".

A bit of Cassarian angst I guess. So this came up while listening to KH: Birth by Sleep music track, Dismiss (final episode’s Terranort boss fight) over the weekend. I was kind of brain dead and sunburned, and then later realized it is a bit too similar to an earlier work :P
The idea in this piece is that being bonded to the opal for extended periods of time will deteriorate your free will, until it controls your mind and body completely. Perhaps a certain little star may be her guide back to the light.
Other AU background(s):
- glowing hair stripe: a small hint of dormant lunar magic or something else allowed Varian to resist the moonstone’s deadly magic. Could also add symbolism as the guiding star.
- perhaps over the year and a half or two, he gained a bit of training with swordplay (when he is finally stable at least)
- this battle could be a distraction to buy time for the real plan (involves alchemy, of course).

Cassarian Angst/Fluff
I wrote some for the CC the other day, so I figured I'd share it here, as @polymathart suggested to me. It's still a rough draft, so there's some tense changes. Sorry for those in advance! I plan to polish it up soon, so until then, enjoy!
1. Some people are giving up on Cass, saying she's nothing but a heartless villain who must be stopped at all costs, and Varian's just sitting quietly in the corner of a meeting or something, staring at the Cassandrium in his hand that he found in her room when they searched it, and just quietly speaks up with "no, she's still in there, I know it, we can't give up on her." And we see Raps' heart just break when she sees his determined, pained expression. She sees how much he really cares for Cassandra, even after a few years
2. Cass attacks Varian and severely injures him and he's in pain any begging her to stop and calls her Cassie and she stops, realizing what she's doing and then someone attacks Cass while she's distracted and stabs her or something and Varian's trying to stop them because "can't you see it's still Cassie?! We can still help her!" And trying to fight them off while injured and an even more injured Cass can only watch in a stunned silence
3. (Ok THIS is the big one, just be warned!)
It's the big battle again Cassandra, and it's Raps and co, the Corona forces, King Frederick, and 18 year old Varian. Oh and the animals. And everyone's fighting valiantly against Cass, but it's to no avail as she's slowly but surely winning. People are falling by her hand all over the battlefield. We get Cap in horror that this really is his daughter, somehow.
Finally it's just the main group (Raps, Eugene, Lance Adira) and Varian. And Cass takes Raps and co out, maybe traps them in the rocks like in Raps' nightmares. It's just Varian, Cass is smirking with an evil look/laugh because it's just the noodle arm nerd left. Maybe she taunts him, similar to the 'sweep you off your feet line'. And he just walks over to her, completely unarmed and vulnerable, holding out the Cassandrium to her. Then he has a speech about how he knows she's still in there, that she's the Cassie that he knows and fell in love with, he's just asking that she stops. He says he knows that the way she's going seems now like it makes the most sense but in the end it'll fail.
She lowers her gaurd, listening to him, looking like she believes him. When he gets right up by her he removes his gloves and we see his scarred hands holding her burned one. "Please Cassie, will you come with me and put an end to this?" From there she either
A. Attacks him now that his gaurd is lowered and plans to use him as a hostage, betraying him yet again. Or
B. She just falls into his arms, done with all of this, surprised that anyone could see any good in her after this
Option A. Cont. (Angst)
She lets him hold her burnt hand in his scarred ones, as he looks down to her with a genuine, caring, look in his eyes that speaks lengths of 'I believe in you'. Genuine, but nïave, Cass thinks. She believes she's too far gone for redemption at this point, and sees his hope and confessions as a ploy to distract her. She glances behind her, to see someone not trapped in the rocks running towards her.
At this point she's too drained to use the rocks against them, but they don't know that. She looks into his eyes, her own seeming to say, 'I'm sorry', (unless Varian just imagined that, but he's sure he didn't) in the split second before she twists his arm behind his back, forcing him onto his knees, a black rock knife pointed at his throat.
"You take another step and he," she growls, shaking a shocked and helpless Varian, "will get your punishment." "Cassie, please don't do this. That isn't you." Varian pleads. He feels helpless and betrayed, but he won't let it consume him this time, he's grown.
Cass hesitates, thinking back to what he said. That he still believed in her, that he fell in love with her for how she is. 'he can't mean it.' she convinces herself, hardening her resolve. But he could be useful, as bait. She picks him up easily, despite how tall he is, due to his awfully skinny frame.
"The alchemist is coming with me. If you, for some reason, want him to come back in one piece when I return, you'll listen to my demands." She sneers before using the last of her energy to fast-travel through the rocks. With her disappearence, the rocks trapping Raps and Co slowly sink back into the ground, leaving them free.
Back at Cass' hideout Varian is imprisoned in a cell made up of the rocks. He's holding on to the rocks making up the bars of the cell, creating new cuts on his hands. An exhausted Cass glares down at him, a forced sneer on her face. "You're just hurting yourself more. Why." She askes, sounding more like a statement than a question.
"It doesn't hurt as much as the rest of of this." An equally exhausted Varian answers, defeated with his hope dwindling. Still, she must be in there somewhere. Right? He tells himself, looking up at Cass' sneering face. "Trust me," she cackles, a deranged look of joy on her face. "That's nothing yet." Right? He thinks again, practically begging his Cassie to come back, instead of this heartless monster before him.
Now that the depressing fest is over for now it's time for fluff!
Option B. Cont. (Fluff)
She lets him hold her burnt hand in his scarred ones, as he looks down to her with a genuine, caring, a look in his eyes that speaks lengths of 'I believe in you'. Her mind and heart are racing from his words, unable to focus on everything he said. "I, you really, but-" she tried to mumble but she paused, taking a breath of air. She looked down, unable to look him in the eyes.
She was the villain now, it should be her against the world with no good left in her, nothing redeemable.
"Cassie, you're, you're probably thinking that it's impossible for someone to even look at you after what you've done." Varian said, forcing her to look him in the eyes as he guessed her exact thoughts. "Right?" He added, a little less confident this time. She nodded slowly, a second away from breaking down; she was a tower about to crumble into ruins, broken remains of something once great with potential.
"I know how it feels to feel like that, trust me Cassie. I also know that when you feel like that, you're wrong. If I had a lifetime I couldn't name every little reason that that's wrong." He lightly placed a hand on her back, watching her begin to sway on feet, a look on face that was pure exhaustion.
He brought her burned hand up and kissed it, unfazed by the horror. A simple kiss that outwardly didn't mean much, but to Cass it was the most meaningful thing that could have happened to her. It was intertwined with emotions that had been waiting to be said for ages.
A simple kiss and the tower fell.
She melted into his arms, wrapping her own around him weakly, exhausted. She reveled in the silence for a minute, foreign and strange on the battlefield. "Varian, did you mean any of that you said?" She whispered into his shoulder, barely audible. "About believing in me even after everything I've done, and," she hesitated, terrified of what she was saying. A part of her said to keep quiet. "And the part about loving me, loving me for me?"
She didn't dare look up at him, afraid that he'd laugh and shove her away, and tell her, 'of course not. Who could even bear to look at you after everything you've done.' She shook her head at her thoughts, hoping like heck that she was wrong.
"Cassie, I, of course I meant it. Every last word, every syllable. I don't know how I couldn't feel that way about you. It's been the thought of you that's been keeping me going all these years." Varian replied, a smile in his voice from smiling down at Cass. He held her gently, not wanting to cause her any more pain than she's already dealt with.
She gave him a weak, warm smile as she moved up on to her tiptoes to give him a kiss. She fell into the soft kiss, melting into him. He pulled her closer in the moment, holding her tight, never wanting to let go of her.
She finally pulled away moments later, a true sleepy smile on her face as she looked up at him. Varian's face was bright red, he opened his mouth to speak but no words came out. "Varian, I think I'm done, with all of this." She said, gesturing at the battlefield around her that she'd caused. "And I think I, well maybe love you too? You Nerd." She added, giving him a small affectionate punch on the shoulder, her other hand wrapped around his neck and shoulders.
Varian picked her up, holding her in a bridal carry, and giving her a goofy and helpless in love smile. "You know, I did say I could sweep you off your feet." He mumbled down at her. Cass gave him another punch on the shoulder. "I can walk myself Varian, just put me down." She protested, already struggling to get out of his arms. "You need to rest, just relax for once Cassie, let me handle everything. I swear I won't let anything happen to you, I would never be able to." He waited until she nodded and leaned back into him before beginning to walk towards the others.
Many were injured, but nothing severe, and Raps and everyone else who had been trapped within the rocks were free. Varian didn't remember hearing the rocks sink back into the ground. He shared a look with Raps, simply nodding to tell her that everything was ok before he continued on. He looked down at a half-asleep Cass, his Cassie, content in his arms and beamed, finally allowing himself to believe that things would be ok in the future.

Ahhh Same anon with all the portal questions ugh. Sorry if they're annoying ^^; but, do you think the RTA/TTS cast you chose for Portal 2 would work with the Portal Fanfic Blue Sky?
No prob!  I’m glad to get fun questions!  ^_^
Hermmm…
I…suppose in a sense it could?  Though there would be more obstacles to get by I think, especially with the eventual romantic subplot to Blue Sky’s narrative.
For sure, if we were to go the route of the story becoming romantic between the Chell and Wheatley counterparts as it does in the actual fan fic, I would definitely age Varian up beforehand!  (i.e. He would’ve been well passed his adolescent years when he was put through the core transfer.)  I certainly don’t ship him and Cassandra in their current canon ages.  xP  (Though even in a fictitious setting, it feels a bit weird to me to age up an adolescent character in order to ship them with someone older.  Not to say that it could never be a thing in the future (as several Cassarian shippers have touched on in their works, assuming that Cass is somewhere between 4-10 years older than Varian), but I would definitely want to be careful with something like that.  Especially since the only canon Varian we’ve got is him at 14 (maybe 15) years-old.  In short, as it currently stands, I don’t ship Varian with anyone, but I’m also not closed off to the idea of him and Cassandra perhaps developing feelings for each other once he enters into adulthood.  If shipping Eugene and Raps in their respective ages is fine (which some people speculating it to be as much as a 10 year difference), then I don’t have a problem with Cass and Varian either in that respect.  It would just have to be handled carefully is all.)
Otherwise I think the story could also work out really well with Cass just being the older friend that helps our little confused cinnamon roll rediscover and accept his humanity by the end of the adventure.  I can see them having a rather unconventional but very meaningful platonic friendship in their respective present ages (think of Dipper and Wendy from “Gravity Falls” for example), and Varian essentially becoming like Cass’s little brother by the end of everything - no romantic feelings in the end, but by golly they would die for each other if need be!  (Oh man!  Just imagining all the angst scenes between these two…the feels!!!)
The other cores mentioned in the tale could also just remain who they are, and the townsfolk of Eaden could then be filled by Corona and Vardaros citizens etc.  (Though, I have to say, it would be super weird to see an android Raps and Eugene pulling off a mass kidnapping of an entire town like how Atlas and P-Body did.  Now THAT would be a real flip-flop of their characters!  D8)

Cassarian Dump #3
(Platonic, Varian is still 14) Between “Great Expotations” and “Queen for a Day,” Cassandra gives Varian lessons on how to ride on horseback. Varian is cautious around Fidella. He fumbles awkwardly trying to put the saddle on her back. Cass does so with ease. Varian gets his hands tangled in the reigns. Cass rolls her eyes and mounts behind Varian while taking the reigns in her hands. She slowly demonstrates to Varian how to control the reigns. Eventually the two of them make progress. Varian starts to blush because Cass is holding his hands. Seeing that Varian is getting the hang of things, Cass jumps off while Varian keeps riding. When his little test ride is over, she helps him carefully dismount. “Thank you, m’lady,” he says with a slight bow. “Don’t thank me.” She points to Fidella who nudges Varian’s shoulder. He chuckles and shyly pets her head. He grows fond of her, noting the beautiful braids of her mane. “Th-thank you, Fidella.” Cass offers to give Varian another lesson next week. “It’s a date, then!” laughs Varian. “It’s a what?” Cass asks. “I’ll, uh, save the date! I’ll save the date on my schedule! That’s what I said.”
“Varian,” Cass asks sadly, “why are you always so patient with me? Even when I lose my temper?” “It’s simple,” Varian answers with loving eyes, “you’re completely worth it all.”
While Rapunzel and Eugene paint Easter Eggs, Cass and Varian celebrate by just throwing normal eggs at each other.
Cassandra is pregnant. While reading in bed, Varian comes in with an armful of plush animals. Cass is flattered but says it isn’t necessary, only to be cut off by Varian calling in Lance and Eugene to haul in the rest of the plushies. Eugene is very unenthusiastic about it.
Pregnant Cass lying down in bed with Varian gently brushing his hand along her baby bump. He starts singing lullabies as “practice.”
Cass cuts herself on some alchemy glassware. Varian dashes to her side and tends to her wound. While she sits down to rest, Varian makes her feel-better cookies. He then covers her in a blanket and fluffs her pillow and everything to help her relax. Ruddiger curls up on her lap like a cat.
Cass not so secretly loves to give their kids baby talk and funny faces. She tries to cover it up but Varian knows
Cassandra just gives birth. Rapunzel is first to hold the baby. “Congratulations, guys! It’s a boy. Cmon,” Rapunzel softly cheers, “let’s go meet Mom and Dad!” Rapunzel hands the newborn to Cass and Varian. “...hi,” Cass whispers. Baby opens eyes and makes little noises. Cass laughs and begins to cry. Varian holds her. “You did it, Cassie.” “No, Varian. We did.” She kisses him on the cheek before resting her head on his shoulder.
Cass is always on her guard right? Even when she sleeps. So she sleeps pretty tensely. But when she feels safe and comfortable, she relaxes. And that’s how she sleeps when she’s near Varian. Soundly. Happily. Probably even sores and drools a bit. Only when she’s with her VariBear.
Varian trips while serving Cass the wedding cake. It lands on her face. “Cassie! I’m so so—” Cass holds her hand up and removes the cake from her face with a scowl. Suddenly she smiles and pulls her arm back before chucking the cake back at Varian. Varian ducks and it hits Eugene. Varian throws cake and it hits Rapunzel. “Alright!” Rapunzel yells. “The Queen’s in on this!” And the whole reception becomes a food fight. During the fight, Varian feeds a bit of cake to Cass before throwing it over her.
The Assassin’s shoots his bow at Eugene and Rapunzel’s daughter. Varian throws himself in line to shield her. He collapses. Lance disarms and pins the Assassin while Cass runs to Varian. “C-Cass-an-dra,” Varian groans, “You’re my hero...” Cass presses his hand to her lips. “And you’re my hero, Varian.” There’s no healing incantation. Varian’s eyes close. Varian breathes his last. Cass gives him one last kiss. She weeps into his chest. Rapunzel, Eugene, Lance, Angry, and Catalina and all the animals arrive too. Cass slowly looks up. Filled with fury, she rises up, wrenches the elixir from the shooter, and pours it down Varian’s throat. “Please bring my hero back,” she whimpers. Varian coughs.
New Dream: Watching the sunset on the beach. / Cassarian: Sword fighting on the beach.
Varian checking up on Cass resting in bed after getting injured. Her back is turned so he thinks she’s fast asleep. He whispers that he loves her. Camera pans down to reveal that Cass was awake.
“Cass!” Varian calls, “guess how many kittens I can hold at once!” Cass shrugs. “I don’t know. Three?” “Varian, covered in kittens, responds, “Fifteen! I would say sixteen but I can’t lift you up like this.” Cass blushes.
(Platonic, Varian is around 20) While listening to Cassandra’s recollections of all her daring adventures, Varian’s eyes light up. “Cassie! You’re like a real life Flynn Rider!” “Don’t liken me to that fictional crook!” Varian nods. “You’re right... you’re definitely way cooler!” “I,” Cass stutters. She pouts, reluctantly flattered by the compliment.
Angst where one of Varian’s inventions seriously hurts Cass—a cut or a burn or something—and Cass is livid. At first she tells Varian off and not to try to help. She calls his inventions stupid and and dangerous and him inconsiderate and oblivious to just how much danger he keeps putting everyone into for his own success. Varian makes an antidote nevertheless. He gives it to Rapunzel to hand to Cass. Cass wants nothing to do with any more of Varian’s inventions. But eventually she has no other choice but to try the antidote and it heals her. Cass realizes just how much Varian cares about her even after what she said. She finds Varian the next day tearing down his invention solemnly. He admits that she was right and that maybe it was time he took a break from his work. It’d be safer for everyone. Cass apologizes for insulting Varian. And she says that, yes, maybe he should take a break, it doesn’t mean he should give up entirely. And that it’s okay for him to keep doing what he loves so long as he exercises more caution. Varian thanks Cass and puts away his equipment. Now that he is on “vacation,” he wants something new to do. Next day he arrives to Cass while she is training and he shyly asks if he could join her in training...
Hi, everyone! It’s me, Rapunzel. Eugene and I just wanted to take this time to say a few words for the newly weds. Varian, when we first met you, you were a short, clumsy, excited ball of curiosity. Cass, when we first met, you were stubborn, quick-tongued, and just roaring to fight. I know in the past we’ve had our differences. I know that there were times that really tested our friendships. But even then we were so happy to have you back. You’ve both become such a big part of our lives. You are both courageous, sincere, and total inspirations to everyone you meet. You’ve both grown so much as people that we love, respect, and cherish. You two complete each other. You’ve both experienced similar struggles and pains before and have come out on top. Your cleverness and fearlessness go unmatched. We believe that you two are capable of so many great things. You two were made for each other. We are so proud you, Cass and Varian, and love you more than you can ever imagine.
Varian begging Cass to trust him when he wants her to take a flight with him in his new flying machine. How to Train Your Dragon style.
For Cass’ birthday, Varian will make her a sword. Like his nerdy Flynn Rider sword. Because you know there’s no way he just bought that from somewhere.
“I would never date anyone who is loud, obnoxious, and annoying,” Cass proclaims. “So,” asks Rapunzel, “who would you date?” “Gosh, I don’t know. Probably someone soft spoken and patient, I guess.” Varian runs in with a smile on his face. “Guys! I just found a whole litter of kittens under my house! Come on! They’re so fuzzy and small! “Like him?” Rapunzel teases Cass. Cass blushes. “Shut it.”
Varian runs up to Cass with one of the kittens. “Cass, look! This one is all dark and grumpy! Just like you!” Varian proceeds to play with the kitten before Cass, imitating Cass and making the kitten play-sword fight. “...I don’t sound like that,” she blushes. “You do,” cuts Eugene. “Get out, Fitzherbert.”
Cass chilling with her hand on the table. Varian walks up and just puts his hand on hers like a cat. No exchanges. Just bap.
AU where Cass is foreign and Varian has trouble communicating his love to Cass since she doesn’t speak English. Rapunzel translates. And Eugene who speaks many languages casually talks to her.
BoxingAU. Cass is a boxer Varian meets and has a crush on during a match. He’s a nerdy dorky guy who’s never been in a fight. But one day Cass is jumped by a gang of crooks and Varian KOs one of them.
Hacksaw Ridge AU where Varian is a conscientious objector and Cass is his rough and tough fiancé waiting for him to come back. Eugene is the top dog in his platoon and constantly berates Varian. Quirin is Varian’s WWI veteran father. Ulla has long since passed away.
Angst AU where Varian is smitten over Cass and isn’t afraid to show it. Cass is aware of it but is herself not sure if she’s ready to enter a relationship with him. And at some point Cass begs Varian to quit loving her because she feels guilty for repeatedly rejecting him.

I’ve Got You
Day 7. Cassarian angst! Cassandra’s revenge rewrite (?). Cass protects Varian from demon child and some feelings get revealed. 752 words of soft pain goodness. 💛
https://archiveofourown.org/works/26891092

Fanfic Ask Game: 4, 5, 18 and 20
4- What is your comfort trope? Oh. strangely it's hurt/comfort post non-con.... yeah, i don't know why thats comforting either - I think i just like dark miserable anxiety ridden fics when i',m feeling miserable myself.
5- Do you prefer read/write angsty smut or fluffy smut or just smut? Um... I don't know, the everything falls into fluff or angst always gets me because it's like... there's more complexity in emotion than that. So uh... whatever seems to fit the journey the characters have taken to that point is what I like to write. Though smut is my least favorite thing to write because it's a really careful balancing act between action, emotions, sense and dialogue. Also I am running out of analogies for orgasms, honestly... I think i've done them all and I hate to be repetitive.
18- Be honest how many WIPS do you have at the moment? Well, at the moment I am working pretty hard on some real world stuff so nothing is getting written but... theres one how to train your dragon, 2 new dream, one Camp Cretaceous, 1 Miraculous Ladybug, 1 Harry Potter one i've been meaning to complete thought it's been 5 years now, 1 Varian X Catalina, and 6 Cassarian, though two of those are joint projects that won't be worked on properly for a while. So...13..... I have a problem don't I?
20- What is something that you know more than you will ever need to because you've done copious amounts of research on it for a fic?
I don't know actually, I think years ago I used to do copious amounts of research but now I just write what I already know - luckily a lot of my fics are in worlds I understand to begin with - like Miracuolous, well, i've been to Paris a lot but to write a really detailed one I upmoved them to the London Fashion Institute because I can write a lot more easily about London (and it fits with the story line because the characters are hiding from something), then there's the fantasy elements in Disney fics and you can really do whatever you like with those but I already do (or have done) horse riding, archery, a bit of sword fighting, been to lots of medieval towns, castles ect.. so the knowledge only needs a little topping up with context specific things on occasion. I know, there's like loads of lore on werewolves and that sort of thing, so when I wrote about werewolves it was like - well you should know this and this - but really I don't see it that way - the lore is not canon, and even if it was - t's fanfic, you don't have to follow it religiously, and if I did, then I'd get stuck in trying to make it fit the lore and not writing the story i wanted to write, which is not dependent on the lore.
I do really long answer for these, sorry.
