My first WIP's protagonist back in my castles-of-words days was named super similar to me (Cam/Cass), not because I named them after myself but because I had yet to choose the name Cass when I started the WIP. I just love those Ca- names :p

YAY! OK, so, do the batsblings get to babysit ever? If yes, what is the order in which they are asked if they aren't banned from babysitting(and yes, this can include the grandparent(bruce) or great-grandparent(alfred))

Yeah when they find out, which depending on the bat sibling was sometime before the twins were born and a little bit after. Cass is the #1 babysitter and after that it depends on how annoying they were to Jason, cause most times Dan will let Clockwork babysit. Bruce gets regularly banned from babysitting and then Alfred ends up babysitting, Jason is kinda still bitter about the stalking incident...

Dick ends up crying when he babysits, Tim's an okay babysitter but he's busy most days, Cass and Steph love babysitting and take them out to shop often. Damian doesn't babysit, mostly cause he doesn't understand how to treat them so he would need someone else to be with him to help.

Small question, does it have to be Gotham for Cass? There's charas like Dick that can go establish their identity in a different city. Then there's Bruce, Steph, Jason and Duke who are so intrinsically tied to Gotham that this has to be the city for them. Where does Cass lie on this spectrum? Tq!

EXCELLENT question. I think Cass' situation is somewhat unique because of the way her character was handled post-Batgirl (2000).

In favour of Cass not staying in Gotham, she doesn't have the same emotional connection to Gotham as the four people you listed. She wasn't raised there, and in Batgirl (2000), she has next to no ties to Gotham civilians. In fact, it's when she moves to Bludhaven in Gabrych's run that she gains her first civilian friend and civilian love interest. The iconic volving panel is from Bludhaven, too. It's undeniable that the distance from Gotham, from Bruce (and arguably Babs), helps her grow:

Batgirl (2000) #71

It can't be overstated how important ownership is to Cass. To own something means, necessarily, that you not an object. You are a person who something belongs to, and who belongs to something. By calling Bludhaven the "first place that's ever been... mine," she's explicitly saying that Gotham was not hers. Bludhaven was the first place that made her feel fully human.

But there are caveats to this. Cass goes to Bludhaven in the wake of Stephanie's death, a Gothamite through and through. It's probable that Steph's death colours her view of Gotham here, and her willingness to embrace Bludhaven is in response to the pain that Gotham now brings her. (This is also after Babs calls Cass stupid). Feeling like Gotham doesn't belong to her might stem from these specific circumstances, and not be applicable in current canon.

Still, if the story had ended there, I'd say Cass doesn't need to stay in Gotham. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

Red Robin (2009) #17

After Bruce's death, Cass goes to Hong Kong. Well, 'goes' is putting it nicely. She was written off to make Steph Batgirl, which resulted in Cass a) not appearing in most comics, b) being stripped of the bat symbol, and c) being isolated from everyone she cares about, besides Tim. It's a horrific and undeserved fate, reversing everything Cass' story once stood for (narrative agency; becoming a hero; finding a family).

Though Cass regains the symbol and becomes the Bat of Hong Kong, she is no longer part of the narrative; her distance from Gotham became a representation of her distance from narrative importance. That's the real danger of Cass leaving Gotham - unlike Dick, who is a big enough character to be guaranteed solos in Blud, Cass leaving Gotham will forever hold the threat of erasure.

I'm discussing this in a meta-textual sense, but textually Cass knows the danger too.

Gates of Gotham #5

Here, Cass rebuffs Dick's assertion that Gotham will never keep either of them because they don't belong. She says, "It's about how you choose to see the world. Everything else is just an excuse." She's repudiating multiple things: editorial's decision to boot her from Gotham; Bruce's decision to take Batgirl away; even, somewhat, Dick's ascension to the Bat mantle when she wasn't given a chance.

This is ultimately why, though Cass could work elsewhere, I think she should work in Gotham. It's the place she ran to after David Cain, the place she chose to stay in, and the place that gave her Batgirl. Most importantly, it's the place that rejected her. It's not about Gotham itself - It's about how she was ejected from it, and how she fought her way back, over and over again. Cass staying in Gotham ensures history doesn't repeat itself. It rewards Cass fans who survived OYL, Batman Inc, and New 52 with the light at the end of the tunnel.

This is just my opinion! I do love her stint in Bludhaven, so I understand other people preferring her elsewhere. Just for me, she may not belong to Gotham in the way Bruce, Steph, Duke, Jay, or Babs does, but she deserves to be there.

Why do Cassarian and Varipunzel shippers draw Varian looking like an adult and Varigo shipper draw him looking like a kid, but Varigo shippers are the ones calling Cassarian and Varipunzel shippers pedos?

the way cassarian and varipunzel as a ship has the need to make him look much older just to not look jarring in itself shows why the ship IS kinda weird cuz that alone unspokenly acknowledges the fact he IS so much younger than those two women in actuality. Meanwhile varigo doesnt need to do that cuz they're the same age of just being one year apart, they are equal peers to each other so visually theres no need to do extra gymnastics to justify it unlike the other two ships.

also what kind of backhanded logic is this question. So, are every artist that draws varian "looking like a kid"—aka did you mean: drawing him accurately to his actual canon character design—(regardless whether for ship art or otherwise) a pedo now then?? be for real right now

The omegaverse post is getting. VERY long- so I’m swinging into here-

At two-three ish years old, i think Damian would be on solid foods at that point, granted- he did just come from a cloning tube, so he wouldn’t have had any solid foods- but nonetheless, I don’t think Bruce would start producing milk.

Also, Pit rage + Dynamics?

I can see either that the Pit Rage is almost completely removed from the equation due to Jason having grown up with unnatural instincts, (There is a Lazarus pit in Gotham after all, he could have immunity due to being raised in the hellpit that is Gotham) or it’s so much worse.

Jason will either be almost completely uneffected except for being a bit more feral, or will drop into angry ferality at the drop of a hat.

And you know that Tim will end up being smothered by both Jason and Bruce- though, most often it’s Jason because Jason now has a little brother- one that needs his help and protection from his clearly neglectful parents.

Tim has no idea how dynamics work- and While very much annoyed by it, Atleast Jason can teach Tim how to be a proper pup with Steph’s help. (I can see Jason having helped taught Dick when he first came to the manor in a similar way)

And Steph will want to join in. This pack is a mess, but she she still wants to help. While She’s not full Wayne pack, she is definitely on the fringes of the pack. Not as much as Jim, but still there. ‘Sides, it’s fun playing with a big pack like the Wayne Pack! There’s so much chaos and Bruce makes amazing nests.

First of all, yesss. Tim is slowly brought out of his shell and encouraged by the combined might of the entire pack. No, Bruce and Jason are not almost sobbing in relief the first time Tim actually responds like a pup should.

Omg, I absolutely adore the idea of tiny pup Jason helping Dick learn how to pup. Dragging him into wrestles and gnawing at him until he asks him to stop.

I feel like Steph tries to stay on the edge of the pack but slowly gets sucked in lol, not helped by the fact that she's Spoiler. And getting dragged into the Batman's side of a pack too. It is inevitable at this point.

Gosh, what if the pit rage like, he's fine and completely in control as long as there's a Lazarus presence- which is thankfully all around Gotham. But like, if he leaves an area that hasn't had any sort of death-juice corruption he loses it a little bit. Like he has to learn how to control it before he can properly leave Gotham- outside of emergencies where he has a pendant or something with a tiny bit of the Waters maybe?

Hi! I'm @coffeewritesfiction and I'm gonna take you up on that "tell me about your WIP" thing you mentioned in your intro. Welcome back btw! Good to have you here.

Okay so, my story is called Black Velvet It's mostly on my sideblog runner-owen rather than my main blog because... I don't remember why I did that honestly. Anyway! It's a queer gothic fantasy story, set in a Victorian inspired world of eternal night, with a trans man protagonist. His name is Owen Rosedown, and he's a member of the Theria Runners' Society, a guild of detectives for hire. He works with the Knight Hunters, who protect the city from danger (or are supposed to at least). He was hired by Lord Aurum Vim-Calyx, the current leader of the Knight Hunters, to help deal with the looming threat of evil vampires, specifically Aurum's arch enemy, the vampire god known only as the Scarred Man.

So in Black Velvet, Owen and Aurum go on a mission to retrieve a journal supposedly owned by a vampire tactician who lived in Black Velvet Castle centuries ago. However, when things go wrong, Owen is given the blame and ordered by Aurum to stay at Black Velvet until he finds the other journals. This is believed to be an impossible task, one given to Owen out of Aurum's anger. However, after a powerful storm breaks, the Scarred Man and his allies take over the castle, intending to kidnap all the humans to the vampire territories, including Owen. Especially Owen, who the Scarred Man has always desired . Now it's a race against time for Owen to find a way to defeat the vampires and escape before the storm ends. And the key to their escape is in the journals of the Tactician...

Okay omg where to start. WORLD BUILDING! I'm so interested in a world of eternal night. How does that affect the flora and fauna of the world? Are there different animals/plants than in real life? Would that mess with the food production? Are humans constantly Vitamin D deficient or did they evolve past that? If there's no day, what regulates temperature? Is the sun still there, but hidden, is there magic afoot, geothermal energy, something else?

You say Owen works with the Theria Runner's Society and the Knight Hunters. Do these organizations have connections beyond Owen? Do they normally work together, or is there a rivalry between the "protectors" of the city and the detectives for hire?

What kind of crimes does Owen usually investigate? Theft? Homicide? Terrorism? Domestic violence? Stalking? Etc. etc.? How do you write "deal with the threat of vampires" into a contract? Is Owen the only one Aurum hired? If so, why Owen, when there's a whole guild of detectives?

WHICH BRINGS ME TO - the Scarred Man apparently wants Owen specifically?? I'm so intrigued by that. What's special about Owen? What is he hiding?!!

You say the Scarred Man and allies take over the castle - does this mean that, despite it originally being a vampire castle (I think? a vampire tactician lived there), it has since been taken over by humans? or did the vampires leave and humans just squat? How many other people were there besides Owen when the vampires invaded? Was there a society living there, with families? If so, would Owen feel beholded to protect those families/help the others escape the vampires, or is he more concerned with his own mission? Both options would make interesting characters!

Okay "vampire tactician." What does that entail? What did they conceive tactics for? War? Invasion? Politics? Magic? How could the answers inside help reckon with current-day vampires? Does the Scarred Man still use those tactics?

i've answered this one a couple times so hmm lemme think. OH i think the Pre-Crisis relationship between Jason and Nocturna <3 i'd do ANYTHING to have more fanon content for Nocturna being Jason's maternal figure and how their bond could be explored. i think about her a lot and i wish we got more of her, it feels like fanon just glosses over it. which is understandable given it's Pre-Crisis and all, *but* a lot of fanon Jason takes pull from his Pre-Crisis comics so i feel like we should see more of a Nocturna presence. like she seems like the type of character fandom woud love to sink their teeth into. mysterious love interest of Bruce's fights Bruce for custody of Jason? that's PEAK fanfic material. i would like more of her <3

i was going to say the obvious one of antis crying about having to filter out Batcest content bc how dare Ao3 not entirely consist of content that caters to their sensibilities. but honestly? a bigger one? any complaints about Devin Grayson as a writer. most information about her is incorrect (she did not change her last name bc of Dick, Tarantula is not her self-insert, she did not write the rape scene as a personal fantasy, she is not in love with Dick) and the information that is correct and genuine criticism of her writing (how she handled the aftermath, how she wrote Dick's Romani heritage, etc) applies to *every* male writer in the industry. it's always *just* her though, that this fandom harps on to the point she's this boogeyman that somehow is responsible for every bad comic plot ever. i'm begging people to move on. complain about *literally* anyone else i'm begging. the genuine criticisms of her have been exhausted and all the other things about her are straight up misogynistic lies. because a woman in this industry will always be more scrutinized. i don't think she's perfect, nor do i think her writing is without flaws, but i do think most ppl complaining about her haven't even read her work. they just want to make a woman into a scapegoat. it'. truly irks me one day I'll write a long thinkpiece about it-

Oh boy, what rumors aren't there about Cass is probably the better question.

People think they're sleeping with Choi Han, people think they're sleeping with Cale, people think they're a killer for hire, people think they're a sex worker, people think they're a criminal on the run, people think they're a literal fucking demon, fuck there's a rumor that they're a dragon or some other all powerful creature

Really, it just depends on who you ask, you'll get WILDLY different answers from different people.

For the most part everyone is confused as to why Cale let's this extremely disrespectful, scary if beautiful person who strips all the time and never listens to societal rules hang around without consequence

No one says anything of course, this is the Young Mater's guest after all and the Henituse haven't said anything.

Besides, despite all the rumors they are extremely helpful and kind to the staff whenever the need arises. If they catch you struggling to carry something, they'll swoop in and carry it for you, or they'll clean up any messes they find and help in the kitchen. Plus there was that one time they repaired Young Mistress Lily's favorite dress after she ripped it

And, of course, they are the only person who manages to get Young Master Cale to eat and sleep and actually take a break
