the things we left behind is perhaps the most heartbreaking episode of the entire series. cas’ heart is in the right place but the mere fact of his existence hurts claire.

and then claire saying that she used to pray to him every night, followed by the revelation that he heard her prayers but he discarded them.

it’s just. it’s so complicated but it’s not complicated at all. cas isn’t a bad guy but he is THEE bad guy. and dean and sam are his accomplices. and they’re still the only men looking out for her in the entire episode. and that’s fucked up. it’s so fucked up. she deserves so much better than all of it and cas is trying so hard but he’s never going to be her father. he’s just the bitter reminder of what she’s lost 😭

How are you dear fandom? I'm discovering more and more clues from this episode... Yockey is a real genius!

Ok... I want to start from here...

First Encounter and how Castiel changed Dean

We've talked a lot about this, but did you imagine the impact in Dean's life being saved by this beautiful Supernatural powerful creature. And the words Castiel said to him, we know now, are making echo all the time in his life, in his head... Michael knows it, and maybe Castiel is so present in his mind that must be overwhelming, and the Archangel is unable to understand that, bc as I said before, he can reach the deepest feelings for Castiel.

So he is mad, and that's why he is mocking Castiel and Everyone else important in Dean's life, but in Castiel's case is different, is doing it because he knows something is there between this Seraphim and this hunter going on causing the Archangel not being able to complete the bond with his vessel.

So ok, we had seen this last seasons how the writers were using classic Destiel quotes in other characters to show us different meanings or to show us the singular/plural receptors. But this time, this time is so different... Because Michael is using the classic quotes (with so much meaning in Dean's heart and mind) to mocking them.

"Yeah, so he is important to you bc he rescued you from hell? Big deal..." So he doesn't understand the depth of Castiel and Dean'd relationship, he is like a child, and bc he has afraid of it too, something that he doesn't know... Can't reach.

That's why he is trying to break every bond Dean has with his family, and with this Angel that, for him, must be a mystery. As it was for Qareen and Amara (season 11).

This time this means DESTIEL.

Because as I said in my color meta about Mint Condition, Castiel is literally everywhere for Dean, in his mind, but also in his heart. And that's why when Dean remembers him, the blue light is showing us this graphically.

Smiling... Smiling all the way remembering Castiel, not just here, when he was talking about LOVE and STABBING THE HEART, he was smiling saying love can be more crazy than that. And more smiles in 14x06 too, when he touched the rooster, fondly, placing him apart, when the waitress said "Sometimes you only have the sex", he smiled in disagreement, but then fondly, because that's not what love means, he knows now.

Then... Is poetic how this is written... But most poetic is see the huge changes that Castiel provoked in him... Is Castiel aware of this??

Not just this Seraphim has changed a lot because of Dean, Dean had changed a lot too bc of him. But still... There's more work to do...

Still fighting against Toxicity.

So, here is the second part from the Rocky's bar analysis... It has to do with the title I wrote bc... He was literally trapped, locked up in this Emotional Prison (the bar) with time loops, monster that came for revenge, and the avoidance of all that means getting out from there...

The monsters there are the Hunting, FB (Family business). The one that was drunk and sleeping it reminds me to Mint Condition too, remember when they were scaping from the monster, they went into the morgue, and the monsters surprised them bc he was one of the corpses. Ok so this is the Sam, the drunk one surprised Dean and the others too. And now... Beware with the monster that is trapped inside Dean (Michael). Is like saying... The monster was always inside.

And this...

👆Here is like a prison inside a prison, Sam and Cas couldn't reach Dean when he was inside this room. And if you pay attention to the pics on the wall, there's a voluptuous anime girl and a couple of women. And Pam brought him booze to keep him drowned in alcohol. This is his toxic masculinity, in all his splendor. And here is where they have this boyfriend/girlfriend talk and the YOU DON'T WANT ME YOU JUST LIKE TO FLIRT. Is toxic!Dean not wanting to get out. His inner battle between hetero normative and his truly bi self.

So still fighting... But self acceptance will win!

Let's see what happens with the introduction of John! Could this fight end?

To conclude...

The first encounter in the barn is celebrating the 10th Anniversary, and that's why the writers are calling back to the 4th and 5th season that much, and also bc all the issue with Dean and Michael's Possession is one of the centric topics from this season.

Every word and memory related to Castiel, Dean has it present in his mind and soul all the time. The day he came back from Hell rescued by Castiel is the most important turning point in his life.

Castiel came to Dean's life to bring him hopes, faith, and love. Dean began a new path of self knowledge and self acceptance from the day he met Castiel.

But the inner war he has between Healing!Dean and Toxic!Dean needs to stop, we will see how the introduction of John Winchester (representing toxic masculinity and guilt heritage) can heal once for all .

1)I would just like to know what you think about Cas anger in this and probably future episodes? Like i know that anger and irritability are symptoms of ptsd so that's probably why Cas reacted to Metatron provocations that way but all the meta i have seen was just about the ptsd and not his anger in specific. When i watched Cas beat Metatron up i knew that wasn't really what Cas would do and he actually scared me a bit especially when the camera show exactly how Metatron saw Cas while he stood

2) in front of him and one thing that really bugged me was how Cas just hit the camera out of Metatron’s hands because it looked more like something Attackdog!Cas would do. We know that Cas is afraid of his anger which is why he locked himself in his room and was scared to go outside but after he beat up Metatron he suddenly wasn’t really bothered by it anymore it seemed to me? Idk i just would like to hear your thoughts on this c:

I think Cas’ reactions and expressions have been very complex and like you say much of it needs to be looked at through the lense of the past couple of seasons and what Castiel has been through and particularly what has happened within a time span of maybe at most a month from 10x22 “The Prisoner” to 11x06 “Our Little World”.

To me the entire scene of Metatron taunting Cas very strongly reminded and called back to 10x10 “The Hunter Games”, in which Metatron slowly but steadily had coaxed Dean into feeding the mark too by beating him up. His technique has been very similar with Dean and Castiel. He makes them both remember their past experiences and confronts them with the shame of what they did by ridiculing them.

In 10x10 “The Hunter Games” Metatron works on Dean’s anger and disgust with himself and so does he in 11x06 “Our Little World” with Castiel. The way the fightings are shot they do remind a whole lot of one anoter in my opinion. From the way Cas and Dean beat Metatron, to the close ups of their faces and their hands right to the repeats of questions. What for Dean is “What is the next step”, for Cas is “Tell me about the Darkness”.

And keeping in mind that Metatron in some proximity either had hoped for Cas to pity him enough to get his grace back or fall for his acting - or maybe possibly longing for death cause he really sucks at life - this moment from 10x10 comes back to mind.

Metatron uses both Dean’s and Cas’ helplessness in the situation they find themselves in to have both embrace a side of themselves they had sworn themselves to never slip back into. Dean, much more than Cas, was almost immeditaley unable to control slipping back into using violence and tortured by tapping into giving in to what the mark demanded even though he despised himself for what it turned him into. In his helplessness Dean resumed to fall back into old patterns, which was exactly what Metatron had wanted.

Something similar may be true for how Metatron worked on Cas. Only that in this case, Metatron ridiculed and played upon Cas being “a wuss” and “just as fragile” as any human - which well, was the point of the PTSD etc., to once more emphasize how much more human than angel Cas is at this stage. Cas isn usually not bothered to be compared to being human at all, but in this case his reaction imo and succumbing to becoming the stone cold angel, blocking out any kind of emotion works, because it maks it easier for Cas here even though in general, switching off his humanity is just as much a slide back into an old behavioral pattern as it was for Dean with giving in to feeding the mark.

Essentially Metatron compares Dean’s becoming human again and trying to get ridd of the mark as the solution to help him fix him — which we now in this season clearly see is not the answer, the things Dean struggled with and that made the mark so toxic for Dean are still there, so the quick fix solustion whether it was turning him back human or removing the mark really are just quick fix solutions that in the end turn out to not being solutions at all, because the key to control the mark imo still was finding balance — with Cas thinking getting his grace back would make him feel less in between identity wise. In the end though, both, Dean and Cas still have far to go in finding out and embracing fully without any fear or shame who they want to be.

Cas is further along here though, because even though for a while he succumbed to this unfeeling killing machine like persona - which reminded of him under the attack dog spell, which to me was absolutely intended to question if he could be overtaken by this spell again like Dean was in 10x10 while interrogating Metatrons - unlike Dean he was able to pull himself back.

In Dean’s case Metaron laid out in great detail how Dean was “bromancing his way around the country with the King of Hell”, something Dean would rather want to forget, which was also something that was brought up twice this episode once by Sam and then by Crowley himself. With Cas, Metatron played upon Castiel’s “broken-ness”, which he attritbutes to being a product essentially of Cas siding with the Winchesters and in particular Dean as he asks him

There are two ways this question can be answered and both connect back to the people, who imo were compared with one another here. Who does Cas have to thank for how he became this “broken”? You could say himself. As it was nothign but his actions that brought him to where he is now.

You could also say though, and I guess given Metatron’s obsession of using Dean as a means to hurt Cas as badly as possible, you could also answer this question with Dean and even the flashbacks we have seen in this episode are further used to compare, align and parallel Dean’s MoC arc with Cas’ attack dog spell situation.

So keeping all that in mind to me Castiel’s anger and him giving in to it could be seen as a way of him projecting something on somebody else that he wants to take out on himself. I have no idea if any of this made any sense tbh, dear. I am so sorry. ;___; Essentially I think, we may get more instances of Cas’ anger and fear of giving in to it over the course of the season, which to me would factor in on his ongoing arc about being more human than angel.

As for Cas kicking the camera out of Metatron’s hands so violently, to me factors in on Cas no longer accepting to be “have his strings pulled” and  be directed by someone else, which Metatron being a videographer and by that yet again deciding how to tell the victims’ stories comes down to pulling the strings.

In any case I feel with the build up of the comparison between Metatron’s workings on Dean in S10 and Cas in S11 as well as Castiel’s flashbacks to him beating up Dean under the influence of the attack dog spelll and Dean beating him up while being lost to the mark, feels as if in the ending of the episode there may have been a scene in which Dean and Cas truly talk about what happened in these two moments.

I honestly feel like I have made things worse and harder to understand than the opposite. ;___; Please feel free to send another message, hun. And I’ll try to explain myself better. *hugs*

Ok but did anyone else realize that we basically got the "sammy knows" fanfiction trope confirmed after that dean/amara talk in 11x13?? I mean if he noticed dean's fake "love" for amara after what like 6 months? then he's gotta know something about dean's true love/pining/literal hearteyes for cas after 8 YEARS right? RIGHT??

Yup, I definitely think Sam is really awesome at picking up on feelings stuff people don’t wanna talk about, so yes, if/when the time comes when Dean talks out loud about his feelings for Cas, Sam is definitely gonna be like “…. so what else is new?” (And after 8 years… who wouldn’t?)
