Freelance Reflections #142
I am officially done. My intense period of work is over and I am feeling really run down now, with very low energy levels. I didn’t do too much last weekend and I’m off to the coast now, so hoping that will allow me time to recuperate. Aside from the journey, it should be a chilled time and will force me to relax rather than being home. resting butterfly I had my usual language school work, but…

Fringes Friends And Memories
As I have been missing in action for most of the 2019 Edinburgh fringe I thought I would share a few photographs of myself and my friends which have been taken at previous Edinburgh events I’ve attended over the years.
Picture (1) I’m doing what I do at every fringe and that’s performing my work at the Scottish poetry library. As you can probably tell from the badges on my jacket this was taken…

London Woman Guide Research_ East London
http://cubmagazine.co.uk/2014/08/the-feminists-guide-to-east-london-top-5-hotspots
1. NEW Gen NOW events at The White Building, Hackney, E9
A new project, NEW Gen NOW, has just started at this arts and technology centre: it is a series of talks and events exploring cyberfeminism and feminism’s internet presence and practices. The feminist creative genius behind Girls Get Busy zine, Beth Siveyer, recently gave a talk here addressing online representation for female artists. Contemporary and important.
Nearest tube stop: Hackney Wick overground / http://thewhitebuilding.org.u
2. Gal Space, Limehouse, E1
Gal is an art gallery supporting female artists through exhibitions, events and pop-up shops. It has provided a platform for so many pivotal feminist art projects, including the Beanie Babes products, showcased Vanessa Omoregie’s famous CamGirls project and supported Charlotte Cullen’s Intimates’ Index project.
Nearest tube: Limehouse DLR / www.galspace.tumblr.com
3. She Grrrowls events at The Gallery Café, Bethnal Green, E2
Carmina Masoliver’s event, She Grrrowls, is an arts event in Bethnal Green supporting female poetry, spoken word, music and comedy every third Monday. This is ideal for listening to fearless females and spine-tingling spoken word – and sipping beer in a beautiful café.
Nearest tube: Bethnal Green central line / www.shegrrrowls.tumblr.com
4. Rich Mix, Shoreditch, E1
This performance venue hosts live music, festivals and cinema screenings. DIY Cultures recently held a zine fair here, including exhibitions and workshops on mental health, creativity and talks on Decolonise It Yourself with Black Feminists and OOMK zine.
Nearest tube stop: Shoreditch High Street overground / http://www.richmix.org.uk
5. Power Lunches, Hackney, E8
This café on Kingsland Road is home to a huge variety of cool arts-related events, supporting female musicians and all sorts of creative fairs. I went to a mini feminist zine fest here a few months ago, which was attended by some amazing women, including the teams from OOMK zine, Girls Get Busy, Tom Tom magazine and SALT zine.
Nearest tube stop: Haggerston overground / http://powerlunchesltd.co.uk

Carmina Masoliver - In her own words
I speak to the fabulous @CarminaPoetry about her work, gigs and much more!
Carmina Masoliver is a Londoner, she studied at UEA, she’s a poet, an entrepreneur and a gig host, but she is also much more than the sum of all those. She is a decent, honourable person who works hard to achieve and works harder to help others achieve, and there she succeeds where many with the first attributes may fail. (more…)

Freelance Reflections #138
Well, I have managed to have one and a bit days of rest before things get super busy again with long working days across six days a week… and still going through time without enough funds. I caught up with ibizo lami and we ended up coincidentally meeting Mr Poetivist, who travelled from Ghana to perform in the UK and is in Brighton tomorrow night at The Rose Hill. This was in the Inspired by…

Bubblegum Punk
In this poem which I’ve titled Bubblegum Punk I take a look on my musical journey through the years and as I do I give my grateful thanks to my friend and fellow poet and other voices team member Carmina Masoliver for her assistance in the editing process with it and for making it a better more well crafted poem. I hope you enjoy the read. Bubblegum Punk Growing up in the 70s my musical tastes…

Maps by Carmina Masoliver
Here's a playful little ditty from queen of spoken word Carmina.
.
Maps
.
X
marks the spot
but first, an assault course:
it pokes you, taunts you, threatens your manhood.
Prepare to get dirty, wriggle under roped nets and know how high
when required to
jump.
Climb over clichés,
covered in barbed wire and
ready to electrocute any trespassers.
Picture the prize in your mind, shining in all its glory.
Let it help you through the hard times, feed your fight to the end.
Do not be afraid to bleed, to starve,
to leave up your mobile phone and internet access.
If you try to use GPS, you will be disqualified. It won’t work.
This is a lesson you will only learn if you listen.
Really listen.
You’re going to have to do better than that.
Speed it up.
Faster.
See the finish line
in your mind.
Your body rising and falling
with the
last steps.
But after this, remember, I am not your princess,
not your damsel in distress,
not your treasure.
YOU ARE HERE.
.

Freelance Reflections #117
Things have picked up again and I thought I’d start by reflecting on my resolutions so far. I’m not doing perfectly, but the one I am really pleased with is the social media one as I thought it would be really difficult, but I’m really enjoying not going on it and keeping it to just a specific time. The ones I’m finding more difficult are putting things back where they belong (currently a bunch…

Freelance Reflections #115
I’ve had a busy break, travelling from SE to SW London, staying two nights, then to Hastings and back in one day via a present swap keeping distance with Covid cousins in Tonbridge, followed by two nights in Yorkshire and home via a final family visit in Nottingham, before back to SW then home in SE London! I had to be organised and unpack for my partner’s return, managing to squeeze in a couple…
