Los Lobos Documentary in the Works
- No release date set for in-production “Los Lobos Native Sons”
A Los Lobos documentary, reportedly titled “Native Sons,” is in production.
News of the film emerged in both AARP the Magazine and the Gotham as the band celebrates 50 years since its 1973 founding.
There’s no release date and the documentary, co-directed by Doug Blush (“20 Feet from Stardom”) and Piero F. Giunti, is said to be in the production stage. It will be based on “unprecedented, exclusive access to the band and their personal archives,” per the Gotham.
“Over the last 50 years, Los Lobos has been on the road nonstop, telling these stories that are universal to all of us, reminiscent of the great Woody Guthrie,” the directors said in a statement.
“Our film gives us the opportunity to share this vision with the world and to demonstrate how this legendary American band has stood the test of time. We’ll also show how they’ve proven themselves in the eyes of their industry peers such as Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Carlos Santana and Bonnie Raitt, many of whom list Los Lobos as their favorite band.”
AARP spoke with Cesar Rosas and Louie Pérez as they took “a break from shooting a documentary about their career,” and, incredibly, didn’t ask one question about the forthcoming film. The magazine did, however, ask about what’s kept the band going for five decades.
“When you put it all together, it has to do with musicianship but also with the soul of what you’re doing,” Pérez said. “I think that’s the vehicle to communicate your message. Without the soul, you can play your ass off and it won’t mean anything.”

"El Sabor de la Navidad"
The film isn’t destined to become the next modern holiday classic, but it lends enough originality, diversity, and comforting fun to make it a worthy Christmas charmer.
There isn’t much to the sweet and accessible holiday dramedy “El Sabor de la Navidad,” but it sure is cute. In what feels like a sub par take on the Christmas classic “Love, Actually,” this trio of stories set in Mexico City all come together in the end with a rousing, intertwined finale. While shining a spotlight on Mexican heritage and holiday traditions, the film oozes charm with universal…

LA ABADESA (2024)
Synopsis
In the 9th century, Emma of Barcelona (c. 880-942), a 17-year-old girl, is named abbess in order to repopulate and Christianize border territories in 897. Upon arriving at the abbey, she will have to overcome the mistrust aroused by a woman determined to fulfill her mission, which will lead her to confront nobles, like her brother Count Guifré II Borrel of Barcelona (874-911), peasants and the nuns themselves. Despite everything, Emma will show that it is possible to challenge established power structures. Although she will pay a high price to get it...
Emma is willing to carry out the commission of her deceased noble father, Count Guifré I of Barcelona, Guifré el Pilós (840-897), founder of the House of Barcelona: convert the abbey that he founded in 885, the Monastery of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, for which she is now responsible into the engine of change and transformation of a society that comes down. She must help with all her resources to help the lands that are emptied due to hunger caused by border wars, which in turn are a consequence of the ambitions of the feudal lords of the area.
Emma acquired small or large properties with which the monastery came to have a territory equivalent to that of a county. Her sovereignty was also similar to that of a countess: by concession from her father, her domains were exempt from all interference from the neighboring counts, whom she knew how to oppose with resistance.

Hi Courtney! Lightning ⚡️ for the weather wip game please
Sure! 🥰
⚡️Lightning - Have you ever spontaneously added something to your story that you wouldn't have added normally? If so, what made you do it?
Oh man, probably too many to count, at this point. When it comes to Writing Alignment, I tend to live somewhere between Lawful Plotter and Lawful Pantser — I usually have an outline, I almost always write in order. But in the moment, when I’m deep in the throes of writing, the Flashlight Method is often my very best friend.
I had a detailed outline in place for all of to build a home. Most of that unfolded as planned, but more than a few things changed in the moment, and one scene went wildly off-course — the conversation between Carlos and Gabriel in the hospital, after his whole Darryl and Trudie ordeal. That was supposed to be such a heart-to-heart fueled by familial nostalgia and old fears coming to the surface, and instead, it became this caught-of-guard moment for Carlos, as he discovers that all those years of not talking about who he is isn’t quite the same as his parents not knowing. And that all came in the form of Dominic Lozano, who literally sprung fully-formed from my head as I typed.
Basically, I love it when scenes surprise me with the paths that they take, but I love it most when it happens because the characters are driving.
Ask me about the weather. 😉

@asongofstarkandtargaryen Do you remember the film La abadesa, the one I told you some months ago that was looking for its cast? Well, I got good news:
Antonio Chavarrías finalizes the filming of 'La abadesa' in the castle of Loarre.
The film will hit theaters in the fall of 2023. During the fall, the production company held numerous casting sessions in Huesca and Zaragoza to find several of the leading actors and extras. The director Antonio Chavarrías finalizes the filming of 'La abadesa' at the Loarre castle, where the team has been working for several weeks in January and February. The Romanesque fortress of La Hoya de Huesca has once again become the setting for a film set in medieval times as it is a unique location due to its beauty and history, according to the producer. Ridley Scott filmed 'Kingdom of Heaven' at this monument and, more recently, Paul Urkijo chose it for 'Irati', about to be released.
In the film, Chavarrías explores the most human and personal side of a historical character, Emma (Daniela Brown), a young abbess who decides to assume her power to face a patriarchal and dominant world in a society that relegated women to a role socially secondary and without content. The plot takes place in "a dark and violent time". A 17-year-old girl is named abbess and is commissioned to repopulate and Christianize border territories and those at war with Islam.
It stars Daniela Brown, known for her work in series like 'Días Mejores' or 'Com si fos ahir'. She is accompanied in the cast by Blanca Romero ('After', 'Bajo Sospecha', 'Bienvenidos al Edén', 'Física o Química'), Carlos Cuevas ('Merlí', 'Historias para no dormir', 'Smiley'), Ernest Villegas ('La luz más oscura', 'La Caza') and Oriol Genís ('Todos mienten', 'De la ley a la ley').
'La abadesa' is produced by Oberon Media (Mónica Lozano and Antonio Chavarrías), Wanda Visión (Miguel and José María Morales), Saga Films (Hubert Toint. Belgium) and Icono 2020 AIE. It has the participation of RTVE, TV3 and Aragón TV. The film will hit theaters in the fall of 2023 by Wanda Visión. Film Factory will handle international sales of the film. Likewise, the Aragón Film Commission, the Provincial Council of Huesca-Tourism of Huesca and the City Council of the Huesca capital have collaborated.
According to its director, 'La abadesa' is "a story that brings us closer to an almost unknown era, very hard and full of contradictions, to focus on the confrontation of three different, complex and antagonistic female worlds, that of Emma, Eloísa and Clara, only united by their status as women in a world that denies them any of their rights."
Antonio Chavarrías, born in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), is a screenwriter, director and producer of films such as 'El Elegido', from 2016 (world premiere on Netflix), 'Dictado', from 2012 (Berlin FilmFestival - Official Section) ; 'Las vidas de Celia ', 2006 (San Sebastián Festival - Official Selection); 'Volverás', 2002 (Best Director and Special Mention at the Mar del Plata Festival; Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Photography at the Ariel Awards) 'Susanna'; 1996 (Karlovy Vary Film Festival).
