“ Mettiamo per ipotesi che volessimo ripercorrere la storia di un uomo terribile come Adolf Hitler. La raccontiamo dall’adolescenza alla presa del potere? Dalla presa del potere alla disfatta? Scegliamo solo un episodio significativo? Narriamo tutta la sua vicenda dagli inizi alla morte? Il problema più importante è decidere se il dittatore sarà il protagonista assoluto: sarà «visto» da un altro (o altri) oppure sarà raccontato oggettivamente? Nel primo caso verrà fuori un personaggio «filtrato» attraverso una precisa (e quindi parziale) esperienza; nel secondo egli risulterà così come realmente è stato, nella sua verità storica. Esaminiamo adesso questa seconda eventualità. Al di là della «autenticità» dei fatti che racconteremo, da un punto di vista strettamente narrativo siamo costretti a sciogliere un nodo molto difficile: riusciremo a rappresentare bene un personaggio così «negativo»? O meglio: riusciremo a renderlo in tutta la sua negatività? Nella nostra testa egli è la quintessenza della malvagità e del cinismo, ma poi, passando alla scrittura riusciremo a «restituirlo» così come lo immaginiamo? Sicuramente no, a meno di non renderlo «incredibile», falso, forzato. Non ci riusciremo perché nel momento in cui dobbiamo approfondire il personaggio - anche per cercare le ragioni più o meno oscure della sua violenza - finiamo fatalmente per trovargli una, seppur aberrante, giustificazione. E senza volerlo, faremo di Hitler un eroe, un sublime dannato, grande come un demone dell’apocalisse, una vittima di sé stesso, carismatico com’è carismatico il male.

Penso, ad esempio, al Riccardo III di Shakespeare, allo spietato duca di Gloucester, il quale riesce a salire sul trono d’Inghilterra dopo aver fatto assassinare mezza corte reale. La sete di potere acceca quest’uomo infelice (è nato storpio e claudicante) e quando alla fine il conte di Richmond giungerà a liberare il paese dall’usurpatore, questi, nel momento di morire, acquisterà la sua dimensione tragica ed eroica. Riccardo è un uomo reso cinico dalla natura, un «mostro» suo malgrado. La sua malvagità è in qualche modo legittimata dalla sua infelicità. Come potremmo noi, oggi, senza falsare smaccatamente la storia, trovare la spiegazione delle atrocità naziste nella contorta personalità di Hitler? Ogni tentativo di collegamento tra il carattere del dittatore e gli avvenimenti della storia è destinato al ridicolo.

Uno scrittore (di letteratura, di cinema, di teatro eccetera) non può fare a meno di andare nel fondo dei personaggi, di pescare nelle loro contraddizioni, nella loro essenza segreta. Là dentro si muovono forze creaturali capaci di rendere un uomo libero o schiavo di sé stesso. Ma in tutti e due i casi egli è innocente. Come può uno scrittore lavorare con un personaggio senza un briciolo di luce? Un Hitler tutto nero, insensatamente malvagio, rischia di diventare una caricatura, un burattino, la maschera del cattivo: niente di più schematico. Julien Sorel (protagonista di Il rosso e il nero), personaggio arrivista e assassino, è amato da Stendhal malgrado sia «negativo»: lo scrittore ne descrive con pietas il desiderio frustrato di adeguarsi alla morale della Restaurazione francese. Se volessimo dunque raccontare la malvagità di Hitler, sia come uomo sia come dittatore, senza «salvarlo» in qualche modo, saremmo costretti a farne un ritratto bugiardo. Quindi è meglio trovare un’altra strada, una maniera «trasversale» di raccontare il personaggio. Magari, come avevo accennato, cercando un altro protagonista e lasciare che sia lui a far da intermediario. “

ok so now on to clarifications

on the first (+) you see, theres the word "pretend" (or in the original lyrics, "disimula"). in this case it is a way of saying something like "pretend you didnt see/hear it" or "pretend it doesnt affect you"

the second (+) is for the word "pilot" ("pilotear" in spanish). it is an expression used to say something like "manage/stabilize the situation" in the way a pilot would stabilize a plane when going through turbulences (in this case the turbulences would be his thoughts)

third (+), the original lyrics do not actually say that but i had no idea how to translate it + google translate and word reference were not helping, so i had to change it in order to not put a whole ass explanation in the middle of the lyrics. the original text is something along the lines of "we have to leave and i dont know where to leave through". im not even sure if thats grammatically correct but what its trying to say is that he does not know where the exit is.

now ANALYSIS TIME‼️

the song talks mostly abot social anxiety and feeling like everyone is watching everything you do. at first it would seem like the concept of social anxiety has nothing to do with the egocentric, confident and cocky Johnny Cage, but youd be wrong. in my headcanons, he grew up as an undiagnosed autistic kid in a small town inthe fucking 90's, of course he has social anxiety. he just made himself be this big extroverted and confident person to make up for it. hes constantly worrying about how people percieve him (in his looks, in the way he talks, in the way he moves), about people talking about him behind his back (yk celebrity shit + this can be connected with the flies mentioned in the song), about his emotions being too big, about being too intense, being too much. he was around people who told him he was "bad" (annoying, loud, dumb, etc.) so much that it became a part of his subconsious, a part of his thoughts. they hunt his every move, a constant monolgue of every tiny thing he does wrong. specially when he was younger, this thoughts would get so intense that they would overwhelm him, but it doesnt happen very often anymore. everyone usually assumes he has a pretty high self esteem but he has just gotten really good at hiding his insecurities under layers upon layers of braggings, fake self confidence, borderline narcissistic tendencies and a lot of jokes. he basically made himself charismatic, a.k.a, the name of the song. also, if you listen to that second chorus its kinda like a response to the main chorus. it refers to someone that parties a lot and doesnt care about anything or anyone. it is a conversation between a very insecure and shy person (the first chorus) and an over confident and social person. alternatively, it is a conversation between John Carlton and Johnny Cage.

aside from the lovely lyrics, this song is AWESOME when it comes to the music. it genuinely makes me go insane like AAAHSVAAH i highly recommend listening to it with headphones
