Medo shared this update on July 2. (The caption reads "Day 8🍉"). Since his first plant post, he has recieved comments suggesting plant care tips and asking about where he gets the plants. Medo gets his sprouts from his cousin, who it appears has created a green house tent for growing plants in the displacement camp.

Mohammed's Family Urgently Needs Your Help!

Mohamed is a child that suffers from partial paralysis on his left side and suffers from neurological seizures. As a result he needs lots of healthcare, support, medications, and check ups for his neurology as well as his left eye (which he has lost sight in).

As I am sure you can determine the situation in Gaza makes it incredibly difficult to meet Mohammed's needs. Not to mention the family's other children. All of whom are living in a tent, in a cold environment, with little to no food, and unsuitable clothing. All of which they desperately need.

THEY NEED YOUR DONATION TO:

Late night wishful thinking but like

I think planting funky things around retention ponds should be more normalized!!

Like okay I get it retention ponds are meant to hold the runoff water from parking lots and drive throughs and the like so they aren’t exactly the cleanest water around. But like!!! Maybe this is different in other areas, but the only plants I ever see grow around retention ponds are cattails!! Which, like, are fine and great and dandy lets go cattails, but like

Where’s the whimsy?? Where are the flowers?? If I’ve got to see retention ponds whenever I go to a store or drive down the highway or pick up food for my mom, at least bring in some flowers!!

And it’ll benefit so much! A wider variety of plants can make it a more welcoming home to wildlife! Maybe the plants will filter some of the runoff stuff and the water can then be nicer for even more wildlife! Maybe the flowers can be a nice food source for butterflies and bees on their journeys and day trips!! And humans like seeing things be pretty!

Maybe its easier said than done! Maybe most places already do this and its just my city or state that doesn’t really I’d be willing to believe that! But lets get some color in these goddamn retention ponds!!

Swamp milkweed! Aquatic milkweed! Pickerelweed! Water lilies! Irises! Cardinalflower! Fuck it, put some goddamn duckweed in there!! Get some color in those things or so help me!!

Fucken uuuuhhhhhhh Independent Terran who gets a wellness check called on them by their hab because they’re sick and not eating/moving enough. The affini that shows up starts taking care of them, and is doing a fine job of respecting their autonomy. Shenanigans of some kind ensue and the human asks the affini to pretend to be their mom. The affini obliges and pulls the human into its vines, wrapping them tight and warm against its feverish charge. The human falls fast asleep and is only woken occasionally when the affini has to administer some oral antibiotics it compiled. It feeds them, it cares for them, it washes them and clothes them. Eventually the hesitant “thanks mom”s morph into them adorably saying “thank you mommy!”

Happy Workshop Wednesday.

This week was about making lattices for my indoor Bougainvillea, AKA Paper flower plant.

We have a neighbor trying to clear some invasive bamboo growing in the ground, and they've been kind enough to let me snag a few stalks.

I'm just happy I got these before the snow fell.

I'm also testing out growing English ivy indoors because no one can have too many plants. Just be careful with both these vines as they are known to be toxic to animals when ingested.
