Whumper fakes whumpee’s death so they don't have a vengeful caretaker after them. But later: the grief stricken caretaker sees whumpee again for the first time after they’ve escaped and can’t believe their own eyes.

“Please… I’m so tired.”
“Then sleep. I’ll stand guard.”
“I thought you said it was safe here?”
“It is. But you don’t feel safe, do you?”
“…not yet.”
“Then I’ll stand guard, till you can.”

Whumpee who is recovering after the whumpTM, but it's not going great. They're so frustrated with themselves, with their caretakers, just with everything. Everyone is so soft and understanding and it bothers them and they want to scream, but they know they should be grateful.
Until Caretaker comes along. Caretaker isn't 'nice' like the others, they don't take bullshit. They're good for Whumpee, but they don't baby them. They treat them like an adult with anatomy, and it's so refreshing for Whumpee.
"You want to stay up, fine. But you will tell me when you can't anymore, because if I have to drag you off the floor we're both in trouble. Understand?"
"Stop whining. What do you need?" (And then they get or do whatever it is without issues or judgement.)
"Want to tell me why you're doing worse today?" -- "No..." -- "Okay."
"Where does it hurt?" -- "It doesn-" -- "Don't give me that, I can see it hurts. Now tell me where."
Caretaker trusts Whumpee to know what they need, and lets them know again and again they won't take this nonsense of hiding their pain. They're practical, and kind, and Whumpee needed that.

DISCLAIMER: I HAVE NO CLUE IF THIS IS MEDICALLY ACCURATE
Something that whump writers don’t consider:
IVs feel cold. Can you imagine a room temperature liquid going directly into the bloodstream of someone who’s 97-104 degrees? It’s hellish. You can’t get warm no matter how much external heat you receive.
Imagine a delirious whumpee whimpering and clawing at an IV while being restrained and reassured by Caretaker.
“No no no, that stays in”
“Hey, hey. I know it hurts, but it’ll help you feel better”
Maybe the whumpee’s hallucinating, thinking that they’re being tortured. When Caretaker’s words fail to get through, they have to use gentle touches and singing. Or, if you want to be mean, you can have the Caretaker being forced to restrain Whumpee to prevent them from hurting themselves until they run out of energy and pass out.

Whumpee that's never had genuine comfort before
(comfort stuff)
Caretaker trying to be gentle and whumpee freaks the fuck out--"what are you doing?!" With paranoid wide eyes
"I'm cleaning your wounds...." "Not like that you're not. Here, give me the needle."
Caretaker trying to comfort them--"fuck, you've had it rough" and reaching out for a hug and whumpee just stares at them
Whumpee trying to be "nice" to caretaker by slapping them on the back painfully hard and making boisterous vague remarks that are supposed to be compliments
Or, whumpee staring at caretaker wondering how to say "thank you" in a way that won't get them beaten up, like last time
Caretaker impulsively hugging or touching them out of kindness and whumpee flinches away and grabs the spot like it burns
"You've always taken care of your own wounds?" Caretaker says. Whumpee frowns, confused. "Who else is supposed to do them?"
"Look, I get that you're trying to be nice, caretaker, but I have it handled," whumpee trying to get themself across the kitchen by leaning on the counters.
"I do not need you. It's okay. I'm not a burden."

Recovering whumpee completely vacant and dissociated while caretaker takes care of them. Staring off into space while caretaker washes their body and tends their wounds. Only barely responding when caretaker touches them soothingly.

i think the morning after a bad day with caretaker is a wonderful thing.
whumpee was on edge the whole previous day- jumping at small noises and mindlessly obeying every request caretaker asked of them. whumpee made an attempt to look small, frail, just as whumper liked them.
maybe whumpee freaks out on caretaker. caretaker will brush against an old wound, or say something that whumper used to say during punishments, or god forbid raise their voice at whumpee… whatever the trigger was, it makes whumpee feel like they’re right back with whumper.
gasping sobs. shaking- no, full body rocking. pleads for mercy, they’ll be such a good little pet, they swear.! caretaker calms them down as best they can, shushing whumpee sweetly…
but the next morning is beautiful.
whumpee rounds a corner, eyeing caretaker in the living room, expected to be denied breakfast, clothes, expected to make up for the commotion they caused yesterday-
“oh, hi, good morning! how does scrambled eggs and bacon sound?”
caretakers offer is foreign to whumpee. they’re still allowed food? and kindness? after that horribly pathetic display?

"I Didn't Mean to,"
Whumpee sobbed as their shaking fingers grabbed pieces of porcelain. Blood dripped onto the floor from the sharp edges.
Heavy boots were coming down the hall and Whumpee tried moving faster; no doubt that Whumper would be pissed that Whumpee broke his plate. Whumpee swallowed when the boots stopped in front of them.
"Uh oh, what happened, Whumpee?" Whumper's voice was an eerie type of calm.
Whumpee tried to still their breathing so that they would be slightly coherent: "I...I broke a plate. I promise that I didn't mean to though! It...it just slipped from my hands when I was putting dishes away and I tried to clean it up. Not to hide the fact that I dropped it just-"
"Hey hey, it's all okay." Whumper's hand rubbed the back of Whumpee's neck and they froze; waiting for Whumper to slam their head into the floor. "Can you look up for me, Whumpee?"
Whumpee tilted their head up and was met with minty green eyes. That's odd...as far as Whumpee knew Whumper had cold and distant blue eyes that would stare into their soul. As far as Whumpee knew, Caretaker had the minty green eyes.
Whumpee blinked again and looked into his eyes. The eyes definitely belonged to Caretakeer, but then, why were they in Whumper's kitchen?
"You aren't there anymore, Whumpee." Caretaker's hand moved to Whumpee's shoulder as he pulled them into a much-needed hug.

Thinking about a rescuer/caretaker barging in and immediately softening when they see the state the victim is in—skittish, terrified, trying to get away from them.
The immediate softness and compassion of “No, no, I’m here to help.”

When Caretaker just kind of incorporates Whumpee into their life, and doesn’t treat them any different than they do with any of their other friends even though they know what they’ve gone through.
They don’t baby them. They don’t tiptoe around them. They just treat them like a person. Like any random person. Like any of their friends.
(Unless, of course, its something specific to accommodate an unavoidable trauma, but Caretaker has never made a big deal about “such little changes to make you feel more comfortable. If you don’t want me to touch you or crowd you, thats no big deal! I make sure I have vegetarian snacks when Other-Friend comes over. It’s basically the same thing!”)
Whumpee appreciates this more than they could ever express to Caretaker. And their nonchalance about it all just makes it so much easier. After years of not feeling like a real person, being treated like one just feels so…. normal. Nice. … Better than nice. Incredible.

some whump tropes that i enjoy immensely
- whumpee being overstimulated by sensory stimuli - bright lights, loud/repetitive sounds, being touched, certain smells - and wincing or shrinking down to get away from it
- unresponsive whumpee who doesn’t give a crap anymore. theyd let someone push them over and theyd just topple to the side and lay there. they don’t respond to goodwill attempts to help, like having a bowl of warm food placed in front of them. they’ve checked out.
- familiar/casual whumpees - whumpees who are familiar with being treated a certain way so they don’t put up much of a fuss to being spit on or kicked. Just groan and move on with your day (could work rly well with ‘living weapon’ i feel)
- whumpees with collars!!!! it’s too dang good. especially if it’s a shock collar and they’re afraid to speak for fear of getting zapped. Bottom line is, you are property.
- whumpee being treated like a child and getting really pissed about it. bonus if the whumper has to resort to some atypical child behavior remedies to keep whumpee in their ‘role’ - such as chains, drugs, etc
- whumpee who refuses to part with an object, such as a mask, and freaks out if anyone so much as touches it.
- caretaker removing masks or collars when the time is right - only to catch whumpee wearing it again in fear or for comfort
- whumpees hands shaking so badly they can’t write or pick things up, and breaking things because their fine motor control is so horribly shot
- whumpee’s injuries being discovered by a group of caretaker friends; whumpee attempts to minimize and de escalate the damage they endured, while friend group is getting bent out of shape in horror over what was done to whumpee, and falling over each other to begin taking care of them
- whumpee being resuscitated and immediately leaping back into action without a thought to the fact that they just DIED; caretaker friend trying to get them to slow down and rest for one freaking second
- ANY kind of retrograde amnesia is soooo tasty. Especially when they don’t remember people they love and just stare at them with a blankly polite smile - OR whumpees who become aggressive with fear over not remembering anything!!
- whumpee seeing/hearing things and freaking out about it while caretaker tries to calm them down

I feel like this is a strange whump thought, but what if caretakers Facebook profile was covered in photos of whumpee, their icon is their favorite picture of the two together and the latest posts are updates on whumpees recovery.

Whump Prompt
Whumper's thumb traced the curve of Whumpee's cheek, their touch surprisingly gentle. "I love you." They murmured, their eyes softening slightly. "I love you more than anything in this world. And that's why I have to punish you. That's why I have to make sure you never forget who you belong to."
"Forgive me." Whumper whispered, their voice filled with a twisted sense of love and possession. "Forgive me for what I'm about to do. Because I promise you, Whumpee, it's going to hurt. It's going to hurt like nothing you've ever felt before."

Caretaker has finally found Whumpee, but they're in a bad state. There is no time to take care of anything right now, and they have to move quietly to avoid being detected.
The whispered "can you walk?" and "lean on me" as Whumpee tries their best to be helpful, and Caretaker half-dragging them through the dark hallways. Whumpees injuries hurt them as they move, and they can't keep the sounds of pain in.
They hear someone coming, and Caretaker quickly pulls them to the side, hiding in a small closet. Whumpee squeezes their eyes closed as they fight the pain of the sudden movement, and Caretaker pushes their hand over Whumpees mouth, apologetic, but needing them to be quiet.
Whumpee leaning forward and dropping their head on Caretakers shoulder as they muffle their groans in their jacket.
Bonus points if Whumpee is usually stoic or closed-off, and Caretaker's heart breaking to see them like this.

People forget that recovering from an injury takes so much energy. It’s not just pain, but a constant exhaustion as your body dedicates all of its resources to repairing itself. This can last weeks or months.
The same is true in the aftermath of a severe illness. You’re not necessarily “well” after the infection passes. Your body has to recover from the damage done by the infection. It leaves a person weak and lethargic well after they’ve “recovered” from their illness.
So, imagine a Whumpee being forced to work again immediately after an illness or injury.

✩ Whumpee who gets blindfolded so that they don't recognize whumper
✩ Scared, injured whumpee who gets blindfolded by their caretaker, so that they don't freak out during medical treatment
✩ Scared, injured whumpee who feels comforted by their blindfold and caretakers gentle shushes
✩ Scared, injured whumpee who completely freaks out after losing their ability to see
✩ Whumpee being blindfolded by Whumper so that they don't get to see the weapons they're about to be tortured with (them not knowing what to expect makes it more fun for Whumper)
✩ Whumpee getting rescued and flinching when caretaker tries to take off their blindfold
✩ "Dangerous" nonhuman whumpee who is forced to wear a blindfold, combined with physical restrains, while being medically examined
