Is Alex a morning person or a night person?
he's kind of both-
he's very much one of those kids who is just like 'Imma stay awake all hours of the day and will be totally fine', then an hour later is all whiny and having to be either carried or cuddled by either Meredith or Derek
🌞 He tends to wake up earlier when he's little or between headspaces, either going to cause mischief somewhere, or going in to Meredith and Derek, full of energy. This works for Derek who is definitely a morning person, and if he's not in early he'll take Alex fishing with him (though post watching Finding Nemo Alex refuses to let Derek actually catch any), or they'll go walking through the woods near Derek's trailer/the dream house. If Meredith's worked nights then Derek will take Alex to a local bougie bakery to pick up pastries for them all, and coffee for him and Mer, and a hot chocolate or a smoothie for Alex to take home to her 🌞
🌛Alex tends to want to stay up later when he's with his cousins, or when he's fighting his little headspace, or if there's been a big Greys level drama and he's wanting to be near his parents... or if he's really into whatever he's doing. They're pretty good at keeping him to a schedule which helps, but sometimes they can't help it at all. He tends to have a bubble bath at night to help chill him a little, especially with lavender bubble bath or something. Both of his bedroom have little cool lamps like lava lamps and a salt lamp (from Lexie... they've told Alex multiple times not to lick it even if he finds it cool that its salty) and they put music and a white/brown noise machine on... still sometimes he sneaks out to play with something he was playing with, or if he's big its to game with Jackson (because the two are always getting in trouble with each other) Meredith is more a natural night owl (Derek had to learn to be one because of their work), so will normally go and hang out with Alex, laying beside him in bed, either talking to him about hospital drama, or reading him her mothers journals.... or perhaps actual storybooks if Alex asks for them. If he's over tired but insisting on staying awake, one of them will take him on a car ride to get him to sleep, because an awake all night Alex is a cranky the next day 🌞

I have 2 Grey’s agere Christmas AUs that I am working on right now. Here’s a look at one of them. Who doesn’t like a sick fic at Christmastime?
———
“Really, Uncle Derek,” Jackson says, trying to get up from the couch. “I can drive me and April home. I brought my car…”
Derek gently pushes on his shoulder and drops him back down beside his cousin. “Oh, I know you brought your car. There lies the problem.”
“Told you we should’ve brought our bikes,” April mutters to Jackson. “Quicker getaway.”
“Your mode of transportation wouldn’t have mattered, April,” their uncle corrects. “You two know you weren’t supposed to come over here.”
“Oh, that won’t give us a complex about your love for us,” Jackson quips.
Derek tilts his head. Jackson holds up his hands.
“I was just trying to make a joke. Sheesh.”
“Maybe now isn’t the time for jokes. You know your aunt and I love you both. It doesn’t change that Alex is sick and you two shouldn’t be around him right now. He’s very contagious.”
“You can’t get chickenpox twice!” Jackson argues. “I already had it when I was 5.”
“You can. It’s uncommon, but it does happen.”
Jackson scoffs and folds his arms over his chest. April sighs. “Uncle Derek, I can’t get chickenpox.”
“Anyone can get it. As a doctor, you really should know that.”
“I mean, I’m immune.” Derek casts her a dubious look. “I’m serious! All three of my sisters had it at the same time, plus my cousins, plus a lot of the kids at school. If I was going to catch it, don’t you think I would’ve by now?”
“Alex also didn’t have it his entire 26 years of life, and now he does.”
“Okay, but that’s Alex. His immune system is worse than mine.”
“I’m not arguing about this with you. On top of both of you knowing you shouldn’t be around Alex, you were also told not to come over. Not just by me but your parents as well.”

seven sentence sunday
got tagged last week by @cianmarstoo but didn't have anything back then, but now I do! (this is my first time writing agere content so I'm a little nervous hehe)
So, he'd finished with the patient he had been working on and had called it in, and here he was, playing in his daddy's office. Or, he had been playing. He still felt jittery and floaty, and it had faded when his daddy had come to pick him up and get him settled, but now that he was busy with his paperwork it started to build again. He had a harder time dealing with it when he was little and he looked around for something that could distract him from it, but came up empty. His daddy was doing important paperwork that was difficult to do when Alex was in his lap, but he really, really, needed to be held right now. He felt the tears well up in his eyes, and his breath hitched. “Daddyyy,” he whined, and made grabby hands when Derek turned around to look at him. “Hold p’ease, daddy.”
do not know who else to tag so :)

Backstory
Ronan was born in Cambridge, England in secret. His mother Kassady had hidden him from her abusive husband — as well as the fact that he was the product of a love affair with her former suitor; Aesop. Ronan grew up not knowing his birth mother (or the fact that he had a half/twin sister); raised by his father until Sharp married when his son was five.
He had a relatively happy childhood, though Ronan always felt slightly out of place. He was not the overly studious, serious type, which caused misunderstandings between him and his strict father… especially when Ronan is sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Slytherin (the Sharp family’s ancestral House).
But as he grows and learns more about his past and his family, he begins to come into his own as he becomes a Charms prodigy and a guiding light for the next generation of Keepers 😉.

Best Subject: Charms, Magical Theory
Worst subject: Ancient Runes
Favorite teacher: Ronen and Kogawa
Least favorite teacher: Sharp (he’s harder on him than the rest oop)
As a student:
Very popular and personable; gets along with pretty much everyone (but isn’t a pushover)
His dyslexia causes him some trouble. Overall his intelligence and hard work helps him find ways around it
Mischievous — sort of a “thief in the night” that nobody suspects
Future
Career: Mediwizard
Ronan desires to make something of himself; to make a difference and be somebody useful in society. After seeing the impact that the goblin rebellion had on people and watching his sister/friends struggle with all manner of ailments (both mental and physical), he changes his career path from an Auror to Mediwizard.
He’d always had an interest in biology and medicine. The job allows him to dive deeper into those fascinations while giving him the adventure and variety Ronan secretly craves — he winds up traveling around Europe after Hogwarts under the employment of St. Mungo’s. Specializes in curses and mental illness.
Future spouse: undecided for now (side note: I’m always open to MCxMC ships! Ronan is pansexual so we’re not picky 😂)
#finally started fleshing him out and I gotta say this is the ideal man#rae stop making mcs you’re in love with.#hogwarts legacy#harry potter#hogwarts legacy screenshots#hogwarts legacy mc#hl#hufflepuff#ronan sharp

11 Tearjerkers to Watch on Netflix While You Wait For the Return of This Is Us
(Photo: Getty)
If you’re like us, you’ve been desperately trying to fill the emotional void that This Is Us left since the season 2 finale (which we’re *still* not over). Who knew weeping every Tuesday could be so therapeutic? If you can’t wait until season 3 premieres on Sept. 25, we’ve compiled our go-to TV shows and movies on Netflix that make us sob like newborn babies every. damn. time. From The Notebook to Grey’s Anatomy and Netflix’s Irreplaceable You, you’ll get to practice your ugly crying throughout the next three weeks.
Irreplaceable You
Synopsis: A stunning cancer diagnosis spurs Abbie to seek a future girlfriend for her current fiancé Sam, who’s clueless when it comes to dating. Cast: Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michiel Huisman, Christopher Walken Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Even though the opening scene reveals that Abbie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) dies, this Netflix original will take you on a freaking emotional rollercoaster. For instance, in the weeks before her death, Abbie and fiancé Sam (Michiel Huisman) spend most of it fighting—until they realize what little time they have left together.
Grey’s Anatomy
Synopsis: Intern (and eventual resident) Meredith Grey finds herself caught up in personal and professional passions with fellow doctors at a Seattle hospital. Cast: Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: From Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington) leaving Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) at the altar to that fatal plane crash, this show is Shonda Rhimes at her finest, and we love every damn second of it. And, spoiler alert, we’re still not over McDreamy—a.k.a. our boo Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)—and his tragic death.
(Source: Giphy)
Seven Pounds
Synopsis: Weighed down by a dark secret, IRS agent Ben Thomas tries to improve the lives of seven strangers in need of a second chance. Cast: Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Grab the tissues, y’all. This 2008 drama starring Will Smith is equal parts heartwarming and emotionally shattering. Watching the impact that Thomas (Smith) had on the selected strangers hits you right in the feels—and we’re not going to spoil it, but the ending will leave you in pieces.
The Best of Me
Synopsis: Sparks fly between former high school flames when they return home for a funeral, but painful memories may keep them from having a future together. Cast: Michelle Monaghan, James Marsden, Luke Bracey Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Let’s be honest, what Nicholas Sparks movie doesn’t leave you feeling like an emotional hot mess? The Notebook aside, this film takes it to the next level with storylines touching on child abuse, cancer, teen pregnancy and one totally unexpected and completely tragic conclusion. That said, watching Dawson (Luke Bracey) and Amanda (Liana Liberato) fall in love had us crying a whole lot of happy tears.
Charlie St. Cloud
Synopsis: Ben Sherwood’s intriguing novel is the basis of this ghost story about Charlie, who is devoted to his brother, Sam, even after Sam’s death. Cast: Zac Efron, Charlie Tahan, Amanda Crew Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: First of all, seeing our childhood crush Zac Efron in tears is painful enough, but watching him grieve the death of his little brother and struggle to live his life without him will make your innocent heart shatter into a million pieces. We’re here for you, b.b.
(Source: Giphy)
Good Will Hunting
Synopsis: When professors discover that an aimless janitor is also a math genius, a therapist helps the young man confront the demons that are holding him back. Cast: Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: The math may be over our heads, but this 1997 Oscar-winning flick will hit you right in the heart. We still well up every time we see the pivotal scene where Sean Maguire (Robin Williams) and Will Hunting (Matt Damon) connect over an unexpected shared experience.
You’re Not You
Synopsis: An accomplished pianist diagnosed with ALS and the aimless young woman who is her caregiver form a bond that enriches each of their lives. Cast: Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum, Josh Duhamel Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: This film, based on the bestselling novel by Michelle Wildgen, will not only make you weep from the plethora of touching moments (like Emmy Rossum’s character helping Hilary Swank’s character play the piano again), but will also make you sob uncontrollably from watching Swank’s visceral portrayal of a woman struggling with a degenerative physical illness.
The Notebook
Synopsis: Two young lovers are torn apart by war and class differences in the 1940s in this adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’s best-selling novel. Cast: Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Do we even need to explain ourselves here? This classic romance is filled with countless sob-worthy moments, like Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie’s (Rachel McAdams) iconic rain-soaked kiss—which won them an MTV Movie Award in 2005.
(Source: Giphy)
First They Killed My Father
Synopsis: A five-year-old girl embarks on a harrowing quest for survival amid the sudden rise and terrifying reign of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. Cast: Sreymoch Sareum, Kompheak Phoeung, Socheata Sveng Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Director Angelina Jolie hauntingly captures what it was like during the Cambodian genocide from the eyes of young girl, which is based on the best-selling non-fiction novel by Loung Ung. Watching her family, innocence and childhood be ripped away from her by the regime will truly break your heart—especially when you remember that these atrocities actually happened in real life.
Extremis
Synopsis: Witness the wrenching emotions that accompany end-of-life decisions as doctors, patients and families in a hospital ICU face harrowing choices. Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: This Netflix original documentary is not for the faint of heart. In just 24 minutes, you’ll get deeply invested in the families’ remarkable stories, and you’ll see their struggles of wanting to keep their loved ones alive, despite their terminal illness.
The Impossible
Synopsis: Tracking one family’s harrowing experiences, this gripping drama depicts the chaos generated by the massive 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia. Cast: Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland Streaming: Yes Why it will make you ugly cry: Two words: Tom Holland. Watching the young actor (he was only 16 at the time!) be torn apart from his family will have you reaching for your tissue box—and wanting to call your mom—even before the opening credits. The fact that this is a true story just makes it *that* much more worth watching.

Our Baby Was Killed at Day Care - and It Wasn't an "Accident"
His death could have been prevented. YourTango shares the story of Shepard Dodd's life via his father, Derek. Shepard was an unnaturally happy and healthy 11-week-old baby boy. He would smile until something needed to be corrected. He would cry, you would fix it, then he would smile again. He was a special baby to my wife and I after years of infertility, and he had a life ahead with limitless possibilities. Which is why on April 6, 2015, our world changed forever. We chose an in-home day-care provider in Oklahoma (where we reside) to watch Shepherd. The woman was highly recommended by a friend and she would only watch teacher's kids. This meant she would be closed during the Summers and school breaks, which was great for us because I'm a teacher. On April 6, I left for work early and was able to kiss Shepard and Ali goodbye. I will never forget him looking over for me and smiling. Shepard had only been going to the in-home day care for five days when Ali took him on that Monday. He had his first runny nose that weekend and had woken up that morning with congestion, but he was in good spirits, so we weren't overly worried. Ali messaged the day-care provider about using a rock'n'play for sleeping so that Shepard could be on an incline instead of having to lie on his back. Originally she agreed, but when Ali arrived and saw what it was, she couldn't let him sleep in it. In fact, this childcare giver confided that she had been cited by the Department of Human Services (DHS) 10 days earlier for allowing another infant to fall asleep in a swing, and that they told her how dangerous both car seats and swings were for babies to sleep in. On that Monday, as Ali was unpacking her diaper bag, she realized that she had forgotten the bottles so she ran back home. She was very concerned about Shepard getting sick if she were to lay him down flat for his naps. While she was home, she grabbed her Ergo 360 carrier that our childcare giver had used before so she wouldn't have to put him down if she didn't want to. Ali also requested a doctor's note for the caregiver so she would also have the option to use the rock'n'play. When Ali returned, the childcare giver reported that she had come up with a plan: she would sit the rock'n'play in front of the couch so Shepard could nap in it, so if DHS stopped by to "check on her," she could just pick him up and answer the door with him. This ensured she wouldn't get in trouble. Ali, feeling confident the attention Shepard would be getting would be more than sufficient, left to go to her morning meetings and notified our childcare giver that our doctor was faxing her the note for the rock'n'play at 9:45 a.m. At 12:51 p.m., the daycare provider called Ali and told her she needed to come quickly. The childcare giver reported that Shepard wasn't breathing. She had called 911, and a police officer and EMTs had responded. Ali asked her to give the phone to an EMT, and after speaking with him she knew the situation wasn't good. Ali called me. In the middle of teaching a class I had to answer the phone to Ali saying I had to go, that Shepard wasn't breathing. I ran to the truck and drove way too fast to the day-care provider's home. When I arrived, they were wheeling my son out of the house on a stretcher. They were still working on him, but told me that they had yet to get his heart going or him breathing on his own. As I rode in the van in front of the ambulance, I had to prepare myself for life without my son and the grief that would follow. When we arrived at the hospital, as they wheeled him past me into the ER, I gave him a kiss on the forehead. He was cold. As they were working on our son, the attending physician came over and told us that they would try another push of epinephrine and two more rounds of CPR, and then they would have to call it. Surrounded by doctors and nurses with looks of pity, and police officers, detectives, and DHS officials waiting to interview us, we had to say goodbye to our son, intubated on a stretcher. Unbeknownst to us, our childcare provider had been educated by DHS for the swing violation where she was specifically counseled about safe sleep practices. The next day, DHS returned due to the serious violation, and she was reminded again of the dangers of putting a child in a swing. It's documented in her public file that she specifically inquired about infants napping in their car seats. DHS told her that sleeping in the car seat was a dangerous practice and would increase the chances of SIDS. She was told this just 10 days before she chose to put our child in an unbuckled car seat on the floor, swaddled, where he wiggled down until he lost his airway and suffocated to death. He was unable to alert anyone to the terrible trouble he was in because the door was closed and there was no monitor to catch his struggle. In addition, our childcare provider was distracted by her friend who had stopped by around lunchtime so she could drop off her 2-year-old while she went and had lunch with other moms. TWO HOURS passed before she finally checked on Shepard and found him completely blue. The childcare provider has never been charged with any crime. Shepard's case is still open and we're hopeful as a family that justice will find her in this world or the next. This wasn't an accident. She knew that a car seat wasn't safe for sleep and that two hours is much too long to leave an infant behind a closed door. Shepard's death doesn't have to be in vain. Unsafe sleep surfaces are a REAL danger. We're looking to focus the attention to safe sleep standards so they can protect Oklahoma's children from negligent decisions. Alex settles in with his family, working through his intern year, trying to reach his resident year while causing a lot of trouble along the way both while he's 'big' and when hes dropped. Meredith and Derek try to assure Alex that he's enough, and try to adopt him as their son. Featuring a lot of fluff, hurt/comfort, and angst, a lot of family feels and making their own family with their Seattle Grace friends.

Not too much.
In a world where people are catagorised as Caregiver, Neutral, or Little, Alex Karev has been hiding his classification as a little since high school. Sadly for him Meredith steps in when George hits Alex, checking him over with Dereks help, and soon Alex finds that he can't avoid being little forever.

Tagged by the fabulous @pimento-playing-hopscotch!!
I have too many WIPs, BUT I got this idea awhile ago and am finally writing it for @cianmarstoo, a very good (and old) friend. It's a multi-chapter CG!MerDer & Little!Alex AU where Mer became Alex's caregiver after Derek went back to Addison in S2. But now Addison and Derek are divorced, Derek and Meredith are back together, and Alex has some *feelings* on his mom's new boyfriend...
---
“Do you think Mom dates?” Derek asks, twirling his stirrer around his mostly empty coffee cup.
Mark raises a brow as he takes a sip of his own. “Why are you asking me that?” “I’m just trying to think about it. How I’d feel now…how I would’ve felt if she started dating when we were still kids.”
“I see.” Mark lowers the cup onto the table. “And would these “wonderings” have anything to do with the kid of a certain resident you’re dating again?”
“I’m talking about me, Mark.”
“Okay, so pretend we are, you and Alex Karev aren’t the same person. So, if you’re trying to get inside his head, that may not be how to do it.”
Derek grumbles, flicking the stick across the table. Mark chuckles and shakes his head.
“Okay, maybe you two are more alike than I thought.”
“Forget I said anything.”
“Derek, look. I’m not going to pretend I’ve been a perfect guy…especially not within the last couple of years…but you seriously have to understand why the kid can’t stand you.”
“I never said I didn’t!” Derek runs his fingers through his hair. “I get it. I hurt Meredith. He’s protective of her. I didn’t expect him to be warm and sunny, but keying my car?”
“I dunno, dude. He could’ve decked you the minute he saw you for the first time after you hurt her.”
Derek clicks his tongue. “Thanks. This is helpful.”
