Caregiver Quill from the MCU with a little reader, preferably his daughter/kid if you wanna keep it gender neutral. Maybe something about him comforting them after they have a bad dream about him going away again post Infinity War, making them a bottle and/or rocking them with comforting words? "We don't know if he's going to be back pumpkin. We aren't even sure what happened. You'll have to stay here in the tower until everything finally settles" Steve calmly reminds you, after you ask for your papa for the millionth time.

Your papa had gone missing almost 6 months ago, and all uncle steve could tell you was that he just.. poofed?

"It doesn't matter anymore Steve. They aren't coming back. Lying to the kid won't help!" Tonys booming voice suddenly came through the closed door that him and Steve were currently in.

"She doesnt understand what's going on. I refuse to-" Steves voice suddenly went too quiet to hear.

You slowly crawl to the door, sitting right by it, trying to hear through the solid wood.

"For all we know they could be dead. Giving her false hope will end up causing more problems when she eventually find out." Tony's stern voice pierced your ears as much as it did your heart.

"Papa dead?" You slowly whisper out, your breath getting stuck in your throat as tears brimmed in your eyes.

Steve stormed out to the living room, and immediately saw the tears streaming down your face and crouched in front of you, worry that you overheard, coursing through his veins.

"Hey hey, Y/N, what's wrong?"

"Dead? He dead?" You look at Steve with nothing but agony and fear, your voice strained.

His look of disappointment and his eyes filling with fear of your reaction tells you everything you need.

"Nonono not Papa! Papa! No! No-"

"Sweetheart!" Quills gentle yet firm voice shakes you out of your awful dream. You look around your surroundings before throwing your arms around your papa, sobbing.

"Shh, shh. It's okay, it's all over. I'm alive. Your safe." Quill gently runs his hands through your hair, softly rocking you, helping you to get through another nightmare.

The day you found out he had been blipped, was the day your world fell apart. After finally getting him back a year ago, you still havent recovered from the 5 years without him.

Quill gently picks you up, walking around your apartment, whispering gentle praises and comforting words.

When you finally peak out of his neck, your face swollen and puffy from crying, your eyes full of fear and worry. Worry that you could be imaginating his smell, that everything you see could be a lie.

"Sweetheart, i'm back, permanently. Theres nothing that could take me from you ever again." Your papa gently reassures you.

When he came back and they defeated Thanos (Or the big bad purple guy), he stepped away from being a fighter, and part of the squad that would go on missions. He would still help from on base, but he would spend most of his time with you.

Quill softly bounces you as he walks to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle, and quickly heating it up to your favorite temp.

Its around the time the bottles in your lips and his soft singing fills your ears that you realize this isnt a dream. Your able to comprehend that your papa wasnt dead. He was still here to love you even if that meant that when you thought he was gone, he had to remind you he would always come back for you.

He walks around the living room calming you downa s you finish off your bottle, and the sun starts to peak through the blinds.

Quill softly sets the now empty bottle down on the coffee table and walks back to his room, holding you closely to his chest.

He lays down with you in his arms, softly kissing your nose, and telling you a story of his time in the guardians. How your uncle rocket was just the silliest friend, even if your Papa got annoyed by the little trash panda at times.

"Papa?" You tiredly ask.

"Yes, Sweetheart?" He softly replies.

"No gone?"

"No gorgeous. Papas not gone. Never gone from you."

Gamora is like the mom of the group, so she definitely is also overprotective of you, not as much as Peter though.

Mantis is like your very nice naive aunt, Peter and her get along very well so they take you out for some family bonding sometimes.

Peter is very silly, but knows when to stop when it comes to your safety.

A/n: This idea is soooo cute! I enjoyed writing it so much, if you have more ideas with the Guardians just send them in ;) I made it like all the Guardians take care of the reader but it's a bit more focused on Groot's and reader's friendship, I hope that's okay and that you enjoy it <3

One day Quill went to the Collector again just to exchange something and when he saw you sitting in one of those cages he knew instantly you were from earth.

Peter didn't care how many Units he had to pay or what the crew would say.

He only had to take one look at you and had the need to take you somewhere safe and help you.

You didn't say a single word when he picked you up and carried you away, you were far too scared and shaking like a leaf, not knowing what that stranger would do to you.

He wasn't scary looking and you somehow felt more at ease when he smiled at you.

"I'm not going to hurt you. You're safe now, I promise"

You sighed in relief and rested your head on his shoulder, finally feeling safe enough to close your eyes.

"Quill, you had one job." Rocket remarked and watched Peter gently placing you on one of their seats, buckling you in without waking you up.

"Could you shut up for a second!" Peter whisper-yelled and motioned his team members to follow him somewhere else where they can talk freely.

"Peter, who is that and why did you bring her here?" Gamora asked and Peter sighed.

"Listen, I know this might sound stupid but I just couldn't leave her there. She looked miserable and I know she's from earth, I don't want to know how the Collector got her in the first place," he said and the others stayed quiet.

Gamora turned her head to look at your sleeping form. She saw Groot placing a blanket over your body and smiled a little when he pat your head gently. Quill was right, you definitely didn't look healthy and she felt bad for you. What you had to go through must have been hard to take in.

"Okay, she can sleep in my bed until we find another solution," Gamora said and kissed Peter on his cheek.

"Thank you."

"So, we're going to keep it?" Drax asked and Quill gave him a 'what the hell' look when he referred to you as 'it'.

"Dude, she's not a pet," Peter told him. "But yes, she's going to stay with us. A new member of the Guardians" he smiled.

One month later

"Y/n, sweetheart, put that down for daddy, yeah?" Peter tried to stay calm while you were giggling and running around with one of his weapons.

"You have ta catch me first!" you shout and suddenly bumped into Groot, who took the weapon out of your hand making you pout.

"I am Groot" he scolded and you huffed, turning to Peter.

"Sowwy I took your blaster, daddy," you said and Groot pat your head two times, you smiled again and took his hand.

Peter was still shocked at how fast Groot handled this situation and Gamora chuckled while walking over to him.

"How is he doing that?" he asked.

"Are we getting a little jealous?" Gamora smirked and Peter scoffed.

"Jealous? Me? Never." he said confidently and they both saw you sitting on Groot's lap, playing with his old Gameboy and squealing in joy. "Maybe a little."

"Just remember who she is going to cuddle with later when it's time for bed" she reminds him, making her way over to you and booped your nose.

Groot and you had a special bond and would spend a lot of time with him. He's so protective of you that when there's a fight he would rather stay with you on the Milano to make sure you're safe.

Sometimes when you visited other planets you were always allowed to leave the ship but only with one of the others and you have to hold one of their hands at all times.

"Gwoot look!" you pointed at something that looked like a stuffed animal. "It looks funny" you smiled and Groot did so as well.

"Y/n, come on, we have to go!" Peter called for you and you rushed over to him.

Back in the ship you were sitting in your little play area, playing with your toys when Groot stood in front of you with his arms behind his back.

You gasped when he showed you the stuffed animal you saw earlier. You jumped up and took the stuffie, feeling how soft it is.

"Fank you!" you smiled and hugged Groot tightly.

"I am Groot" he smiled back and handed you a juice box too.

You took that stuffie everywhere, to bed, to eat, to the bathroom, and would get upset when you lost him somewhere in the ship and everyone would end up helping to find it.

Steve woke up from the hardest punch yet, but remained flat on his bearded face, inhaling the rotten Titan soil. A tremendous ache weighed down his body and he had to order it to move three times before it actually did. He raised his eyes. The spider kid was on his left, not moving. The Guardians were on his right – they were unconscious, too. Strange was ahead, also on the left and Tony – Tony was fighting Thanos all by himself. And that was when Thanos ripped off part of Tony’s own suit, and skewered him with it.

 “NO!” Steve cried. His voice came out in a whimper.

 Thanos walked Tony backward until he collapsed, then put his massive gauntlet on his head. “You have my respect, Stark,” said the Titan. “When I’m done, half of humanity will still be alive.” He shoved Tony away, and Stark gasped. “I hope they remember you,” Thanos continued, standing tall. Blood rained from Tony’s mouth.

 “No,” Steve cried again. He tried to stand, but only managed to do a push up. That power stone sure packed a punch.

 Thanos raised the gauntlet. In seconds there would be no more Tony Stark.

 “Stop!” said a new voice. Steve looked to his left and saw that Strange was sitting up. “Spare his life, and I will give you the stone.”

 Steve’s stomach flipped, then sunk.

 “No tricks.”

 Strange shook his head.

 “Don’t,” said Steve, at the exact same time as Tony. As much as Steve cared for his friend, not even Tony Stark’s life was worth half the universe.

 Strange raised his right hand and the time stone appeared between his fingers. Steve fought his way up to his knees, then up to his feet. He stepped forward, desperate to tackle Thanos – to do anything – but his left knee gave out and he collapsed.

Strange surrendered the stone. The Titan added it to his gauntlet. “One to go.”

 Steve summoned the last of his strength. He got up and started to walk – started to jog – started to run – but Quill flew out in front of him, towards Thanos. The Titan disappeared through a portal. Steve changed directions and sprinted to Tony’s side. He knelt beside his friend and clasped the back of his head with his right hand, and Tony’s hand with his left. “TONY!”

 Tony’s blood-soaked lips formed words, but didn’t speak them. He looked into Steve’s eyes, his own bouncing back and forth between dazed and distant, and narrowed and focused. “C-Cap,” he finally slurred, “get it out of me.”

 “We – we don’t have any bandages. You’ll bleed to death.”

 “Trust me,” Tony insisted. “Steve – get it out, now!”

 The sword was larger than Steve’s arm. He gently wrapped his left hand around it, then looked at Tony’s whitening face. “Hold on to me,” he instructed. Tony wrapped his arms around Steve’s neck and pushed his nose against his blue uniform. Steve counted to three, and pulled.

 Tony screamed, nearly deafening his friend. His arms went limp, followed by the rest of his body, and he collapsed against Cap.

 “Tony!”

 “Is a’righ…” Tony said. He regained a bit of strength and sat up, his left arm against Steve’s right arm. “Is a’righ, C-Cap…” Tony aimed what was left of the suit that covered his right hand, and sprayed what looked like a thick mist of chemicals against his wound. The bleeding instantly stopped. Steve touched the sealant, mesmerized. It was warm. Tony took the device off his hand, then, and handed it to Steve. “Press your middle and forefinger down and to the left,” he instructed. Steve, realizing what Tony wanted him to do, put the device around his hand, gently leaned Tony forward so that he could get to his back, and applied the sealant to the exit wound. Tony grunted and coughed. He put his face in his hands and groaned, then leaned, once again, against Steve’s chest.

 Then, Tony reached past the pain and returned to reality. He sat up with a start and stared back at a wide-eyed Quill. “Did we just lose?”

 Tony rotated his body so that he could see past Steve to Strange. “Why would you do that?” he whispered.

 Strange didn’t even look sorry. “We’re in the endgame, now,” he said.

 The other Guardians ran over. Peter rushed to Tony’s left side and, after looking back and forth between him and Steve, decided that it was a moment to shut up.

 Steve was grasping at straws, and he knew it, but he still tried to put on a brave face, for Tony’s sake. “The others – Wanda, Bruce, Nat… Maybe Thor returned… They’ll stop him. They’ll protect Vision.”

 Tony looked at him, emotionless.

 “We’ll… We’ll get home – back to Earth. We’ll get home, and we’ll help.”

 Tony blinked. He pursed his lips together once in a deep flex, then allowed his mouth to open part way. “I…” he started to say. Then he shook his head and lowered his chin to his chest. “I’m sorry,” he whispered.

 “For what?” Steve asked. “Tony?”

 “I should’ve done more…”

 Steve looked at Peter, who shrugged slightly. “Tony…”

 Tony looked at him. There were tears in his eyes. “I… I had a vision, once. You and the others – earth – invasion… You told me I could’ve saved you… You asked me why I didn’t do more…” A tear dropped onto Tony’s bloody face. “I should’ve done more… I – I lost.”

 Steve cupped his cheek. “WE lost…” The two teammates nodded at each other. Tony sat up straighter and pressed a series of buttons on the chamber on his chest. The nanotech – what was left of it - slowly floated across his skin into their home. Steve and Peter helped Tony stand up.

 Just then, the mantis girl suddenly said, “Something’s happening.” Seconds later she – she just dissolved. Her body morphed into ash, and she just floated away…

 Every mouth dropped in shock. “Oh, god,” Steve whispered.

 The muscled man disappeared next. Quill looked at Tony with wide, scared eyes. “Steady, Quill!” Tony said.

 “Oh, man…” Quill was gone.

 “Tony.” Steve and Tony turned around. Strange still sat on the ground, looking at them, blood on his cheek. He shook his head and said, with a confidence neither man understood, “There was no other way.” And then he was gone, too.

 “Mr. Stark.” Steve and Tony turned again. The kid – Peter – was staggering towards them looking, dumbfounded, at his hands.

 “Oh, no,” Steve whispered.

 “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good.”

 “You’re all right.”

 “I don’t know what’s happening.” The kid collapsed forward into Tony’s arms. Steve put his hand against Tony’s back to steady him. “I don’t wanna go. I don’t wanna go, Mr. Stark, please, I don’t wanna go.” Then the kid went limp, and Tony did his best to lower his body gently to the ground. Steve followed, kneeling on Tony’s left.

 Peter looked at Tony with an expression Steve couldn’t identify. “Sorry,” he whispered. And then he was gone, too.

 Tony collapsed forward, Peter’s body no longer supporting him. Steve grabbed his shoulder and turned him around before he smacked his forehead into the rocks. Tony sat flat, then looked at his own palms. Steve did the same thing. Both men waited a full ten seconds – waited to see if they would die, too.

 “He did it,” the blue woman said. Tony folded forward in frustration. Then he put his hands to his mouth – then he shut his eyes – and then a small tear exited his right eye.

 Steve sat on the ground beside Tony and put his hand on his friend’s shoulder.

 A minute passed, and then suddenly Tony started breathing deeper and faster, deeper and faster, deeper and faster, like he was having a panic attack. He gave Steve a flabbergasted look, and in that moment Steve knew that the blood loss had caught up to him. He immediately rotated his body so that they were chest-to-chest.

 Tony’s eyes rolled back into his skull, and he collapsed forward into Steve’s arms.

 “TONY!”

today something reminded me of Bly Manor and I just wanted to throw out again the thought that, though I appreciate the gayness and the love stories and that they tried to add nuance to Peter Quill and Rebecca Jessel, I’m still not very excited about most of Peter Quill’s characterization

mostly it’s because Peter Quill is heavily implied if not textually acknowledged (it’s been a while since I watched it) to have been sexually abused by his father, and though it connects with the themes of caregivers being negligent or malicious which also go into the kids’ stories, it also tells me the writers thought a man who had been invaded in such a horrific way when he was a child was willing to possess children just so he got to live again

now, of course we know many abusers or people with abusive tendencies were abused in turn, but I feel like this is a topic we didn’t spend enough time exploring if that’s what they were going for. Peter never really shows shame, or fear of what he may be doing while he is doing it. the show kind of implies he was desperate because he finally had something nice in his life and he lost it, and that was why he wanted so much to be alive again

this is not necessarily bad, it just feels tone deaf to me when tied with the fact they completely forewent the whole layer where invading other people’s bodies--regardless of how much the children “were willing to”--was something that would definitely have factored into his characterization

if Peter Quill was, due to his traumas, going to be all like “if it happened to me what does it matter if it happens to you” or rationalizing what he was doing like “it’s not the same thing my father did” then I would have liked to really see that on the screen as well. in the end it’s neither of those things that make him see wrong, and he apologizes to Miles and then,,, vanishes, zero consequences, not even emotionally

it’s not really the focus of the story and that’s why I gave it a pass, but I feel like in a story that deals so much with adults failing children by thinking they know best (The Turn of the Screw always gave me that impression) and the unreliability of first person narration, the whole thing could’ve been dealt with better. I’d personally would have preferred for them NOT to try to give Peter gravitas by giving him an abusive background. They could have left it at his mum’s negligence and meanspiritedness and inability to love, that would’ve worked all the same. they could have tied it with other adults hurting him, at school for example, so the connection with Miles in that setting also had another layer. Peter was already there to deal with the whole classism issue which was kind of dropped midway but they could’ve used that more too.

it’s just the feeling I got at the time and even though time has passed I’m still thinking about that small decision, and how sometimes narratives don’t consider the consequences of those small decisions and how that adds to the whole plot

because Peter and Rebecca ARE making bad decisions, that’s the whole point. it’s a selfish act, and they are using and manipulating the children because they are also scared and desperate. it’s a direct contrast to the way the other adults in the kids’ lives are behaving, that’s the whole point too. so regardless of what had happened to Peter or Rebecca or whoever, they have no right to misuse the kids.

so I would’ve liked a clearer framing for Peter’s whole background, is all.

Also please include that they are all autistic and have PTSD, and that Peter and Rocket are age regressors, and Gamora and Groot sr are their respective caregivers.

Tony's decided to research ways to relieve stress, since him and his team clearly need it. They've already tried yoga, that was an epic fail. They've tried meditation, taking long baths, they've tried the whole deal. Then Tony stumbles across a website talking about "Little space".
