I do want to point out that once electric headlamps became a thing mining companies did make the switch relatively quickly. Like, they were corporations so obviously it was not an immediate thing but still.
However, carbide lamps remained extremely popular with cave exploration specifically because most electric miners lamps only had enough power for a single shift of work per charge with the added bonus of the water and calcium carbide reaction producing a steady source of heat, to the point where they are still produced new and have not yet been fully supplanted by modern LED headlamps with much better battery life than vintage electric headlamps
