I see you have a drink themed after stewy, do you have one for kendall too?
Not yet! I've been raking my brain but coming up short. I sort of want his to be blue but blue caracao tastes like ass to me, and I don't know many other blue drinks I could use. Next on my list is Shiv, I'm thinking of making something with hot sauce, like a variation on a bloody mary, and then I know my Connor one would have sambuca (he just seems like a sambuca guy). I intend to do a bunch of Succession drinks eventually!

While the menu isn’t out yet, Vampire Cafe has released information and photos of the new 20th Anniversary Moi-même-Moitié menu for September and October. The theme is Halloween but then that is every day at the Vampire Cafe. Of course credit goes to Mana for coming up with the names and more.
First up are the drinks. The alcoholic drink is titled “ 琥珀に眠る血染めのジュミエージュ”. Now this does not translate well using machine translation but from what I can figure out there is a reference to Jumiège Abbey in France. Mana has spent time there and of course ruins of abbeys figure large in horror. Also part of this are blood stains and sleeping. My guess is the drink is a reference to something sleeping in the blood stained abbey, trapped there. 
Once again this is a creative drink of orange juice for that pumpkin orange color, with whiskey. Pour into that “bloody red port wine, it will be a cocktail with a magical power that will get you drunk comfortably”. Even if I don’t get a chance to go to the cafe, I want to try this drink. 
The second drink is “茜色の絶望と黄昏のロマネスク” which is a bit easier to translate. The name of “Scarlet despair and twilight romanesque” has a very romantic and gothic feeling. Mango and orange juice compose this non-alcoholic drink, which you can pour in what looks like blue caracao. 
The main course comes in a pumpkin orange and deep black hue for Halloween. “ 赤い月と薔薇の花嫁達の美しき墓標“ or “ Beautiful tombstone of the red moon and rose bride" is a deep fried eggplant made into  lasagna with meat bolognese sauce and pasta. The lovely orange sauce is a lightly sweet pumpkin.
And the desert. They changed it! The make-up is similar to the previous cake, but the appearance is different.  “ 白亜に佇む青薔薇と煌めく古城の亡霊” “Blue rose in white and the ghost of the old castle” is a white chocolate shortcake with blue berries. What makes this one even more special is they have recreated Moi-même-Moitié’s Blue Jewel Cross Pendant. This one you can eat. This is a very gothic elegant dish. My guess is they will have this for the next menu also, so don’t despair. Hopefully long enough to be a birthday cake for someone.
I’ve added a photo of the menu, which is good to know about because if you go to the Vampire Cafe, you can point to instead of trying to say the names. Also Mana tweeted about the names he chose for the items, and what is here is it. Go eat and enjoy!

Brewday - Honey & Orange Witbier
I’ve been using my local Beekeeper’s honey for a while now, it’s turned out some cracking Mead and was a great addition to my Robust Porter but I really wanted to try something that was very honey forward and I always make a Witbier around this time for year for Spring so I thought why not try it as an addition to one of those.
The sweet delicate floral nature of the honey shouldn’t get lost in the light wheat beer. Usually Witbiers have coriander seed, orange peel, amongst other additions, but I decided to keep the flavours well balanced I’d just add a larger amount of caracao orange peel to pair against the honey. Of course the honey will be added after main fermentation, I’ve found this the best way to add it after Cameron from Turning Point told me about the technique. I’ll get on to that in my next post when I come to it.
But for now I had to work out a recipe that would contain 3 jars of honey without resulting in a huge ABV that would take this Wit beyond its style guidelines. I did this by using less malt and creating more wort. The addition of a new Electric Kettle kindly donated by Alistair after his shiny SS Brewtech upgrade meant I could warm lots more liquor as well as heating while sparging, as shown in the picture. This process knocked a good hour and a half off the Brewday, which is superb. So big thanks to Allister!
I simplified my original Witbier recipe somewhat because if this turns out well there’s a good chance I’ll be brewing it on a 50L kit as a very special guest ale at The Cawood Riverside Beer Festival which I’m helping to organise in the Village on Saturday 4th May. So it was 34.6% Torrified Wheat, 17.3% Floor Malted Bohemian Pilsner, 17.3% Pale Wheat, 5.2% Flaked Oats, 2.1% Acid, 75g Rice Hulls and for addition after main fermentation 23.5% local raw honey!
I used my own home-grown hops this time, 10g of First Gold for bittering then 15g more for the last 10 minutes with an addition of 35g of Caracao orange peel for the final 5 minutes. Looking for that distinct marmalade flavour from the First Gold to go with the bitter peel.
My target OG is going to be pretty low at this stage. Calculations for water were only 1L out so pretty pleased with that. Have liquored back 5L as well as trying to bring the final ABV down at bit I was only 3 points off the first target with 1.032. The rest of the ABV is going to come from that 1360g honey addition later in the week aiming for a final 6% ish. The yeast is also a key element in this Wit too and the best I’ve found in my many years of making Witbiers is Wyeast’s Belgian Wit, this had kicked off fermenting within 12 hours so I’m pretty sure I’ll be making the honey addition after only a few days. I’ll post again then.
