I was going to credit my extensive reading this year to all the novellas I read but I have to shout-out to audiobooks as well. I've probably listened to 20 audiobooks this year.

This is nice and noteworthy because I used to be a huge audiobook listener but I'd fallen out of the habit in the last 3-5 years! I think I can credit my commute doubling from 15 to 30 minutes 😅

Tonight is a great night to think fondly on Haleth and Caranthir. I think they would make such a funny couple.

Imagine??? The Big Tall Broody Scowling Kinslayer Who Is Also The One Reason The Economy Is Functioning At All Between The Different Races/Elvish Factions Who Probably Is Dying To Tell King Thingol/His Cousins To Fuck Off At Any Given Moment and hes looming over this short human lady??

This short human lady that Can, Will, and Already Has told him to pull the stick out of his ass and bullies him into doing normal townsfolk chores??? Lord Carathir, Master Economist and a Weaver with the skill to rival his grandmother, sitting there and darning socks cause his tiny mortal wife told him too. His reward will be a kiss on the cheek but she'll scold him while he does it because he said a mean thing about his Cousin Finrod in his last letter to her while he KNEW Finrod was visiting her.

Only three things in the world keep Caranthir in check: His Eldest Brother, The Lord Himring, The Current Head of the Feanorian Faction of Noldor, and Former High King; the idea that if he didn't complete his brothers' tax paperwork and run the Trade Routes then the Nolofinweans and Arafinweans would become more economincally important And We Cant Have That; and his 4'11 wife he met bloodied and wrathful on a battlefield screaming at an orc over the corpse of her brother-- it was love at first sight

This entire chapter was so hard to write AND draw... until you grasp that one thought and pull hard on it. Envisioning Nevarro like you're a gunslinger, an outlaw, wandering into a town clinging to the frontier really helped me crawl past artist's block.

My second thought after "guess I know what scene to conceptualize" was "Kendrick Lamar in the 'Humble' mv" and when when I dove into Shotdeck's archives for "beam of light", the very first image was from Kendrick Lamar's Humble mv. Are you shitting me.

I think I could've done more to emphasize how alone Din is in this chapter, but I may have played it too safe with the setting and that put limits on my ideas of what feelings I wanted to capture. Still think I nailed it, though.

I'm so excited for the next chapter, though. I sat on how I want to write and draw it for almost as long as I sat on how I wanted to write and draw chapter 7, so hopefully I'll have a much better time with that one.

Hazelnut Toffee Cookie— one of the remarkable spear warriors of the Dark Cacao Kingdom. Kind, compassionate towards subordinates, but most especially who embraces with fiery passion the Cacaoian Martial Art of spear wielding. She holds the almighty Tough Toffee Spear— its aura shines with passion and bravery. Even during times she’s frightened and has lost all hope, she perseveres even through the coldest night. As long as she has a king to serve, she’s never backing down.

- BONDS/RELATIONS ★

- She has admired Caramel Arrow Cookie as more than a friend since they started training together. She has kept this a secret though because of the strict, witholding society of the Dark Cacao Kingdom, which also prohibits soldiers from dating eachother— mandated by the king himself. (still not official in my AU tho!! Still working on it)

- Cube Choco Cookie is her uncle on her mother’s side. He is where Hazelnut Toffee gets most of her love for Cacaoian Martial Arts from, since her father died due to his arm being amputated while fighting a battle in war that time. (More on this in another future post)

- Knew and became friends with Second Watcher because of Cara + the whole kingdom jokes about them being siblings because of their eyepatch lol

- Also became friends with Gatekeeper Cookie because of Carrow

- Dark Choco, Carrow, Crunchy Chip, and her were all friends since they first started training. But then Dark Choco left, and ever since Hazelnut felt resentment and confusion towards him. But overtime, she started feeling empathetic for him and misses him as a brother/friend sometimes.

- Affogato both teased Cara and Hazel, but Hazel got teased the most because of her soft personality, but would often get defended strongly by Cara, Hazel did the same. 🥺🥺🥺
