In honor of Barricade Day, here’s a very rare Les Mis treasure. A highlights reel of a production from the musical’s early glory days: the 1991 Toronto production at the Royal Alexandra Theatre.
The cast features Michael Burgess as Jean Valjean, Gordon McLaren as Javert, Susan Gilmour as Fantine, Graeme Campbell as Thénardier, Janelle Hutchinson as Mme. Thénardier, Vance Avery as Marius, Ian Simpson as Enjolras, Cara Hunter as Éponine, Cara Chisholm as Cosette, and an unknown Young Cosette and Gavroche.
The snippets of each musical number are too short for me to write a detailed review, but this cast definitely seems to have been an outstanding one!
This video is a very lucky find.

The Armed Announce New Song + Tour Dates
“Does anyone even know you? Does anyone even care?” Sing The Armed. A true question we have to ask ourselves in this day and age when all others see is the image we project. The Armed sing with passion and conviction on their new single “Sport of Form.” Iggy Pop takes the shape of GOD in this video (how apropos). Check out their new, dynamic single below: Read More… The Armed have announced a new album, Perfect Saviors, available August 25th, their first album since their breakout ULTRAPOP. Providing a full accounting of album contributors for the first time, Perfect Saviors was produced by the band’s Tony Wolski along with Ben Chisholm and Troy Van Leeuwen, with contributions from Julien Baker, Sarah Tudzin, Mark Guiliana, Patrick Shiroishi, Justin Meldal-Johnsen and many more (full contributors list below). The album was mixed by Alan Moulder. The news arrives with a first single, “Sport of Form,” which features Julien Baker on vocals and Iggy Pop playing God in the song’s visual. Vocalist Tony Wolski offered this statement on the album: “Too much information has made us dumb and confused. Too many ways to connect have inadvertently led to isolation. And too much expectation has forced everyone to become a celebrity. Predictable primal dangers have given way to newer social ones. And the result is a world that is confounding and terrifying—but ultimately still beautiful. We hope this record is exactly all of that, too. Perfect Saviors is our completely unironic, sincere effort to create the biggest, greatest rock album of the 21st century.” Of the first single, “Sport of Form, he continued: There are two types of sport—those of measure and those of form. A sport of measure like basketball, football, or soccer has a point system and a sort of binary path to victory. A sport of form is something like diving, figure skating, or bodybuilding—something with evolving standards and a layer of subjectivity and some sort of critical component. The world that surrounds us is complex, and our lives are truly more akin to a sport of form than one of measure. Yet, so many people see it as exactly the opposite. Lyrically, this song is about the human need to win a game that we’re not even actually playing. Sonically, it is a reflection of that cognitive dissonance through a constant whiplash between beauty and ugliness, severity and tenderness, obscenity and grace. The album concludes a trilogy of albums examining and dissecting what constitutes “pop culture” in a world of limitless information and access. Using “pop music” loosely as a format in which to express these ideas, each album used composition and presentation as a way to challenge these questions further. Perfect Saviors is the ultimate product of this evolution. Using one of the world’s most well-known mixing engineers to create a beautiful album fully immersed in the language and world of pop through the inherently unique, extreme, and perverse lens The Armed communicate their art. The album was written by The Armed and performed by Ken Szymanski, Randall Lee, Tony Wolski, Dan Greene, Ben Chisholm, Urian Hackney, Cara Drolshagen, Troy Van Leeuwen, Patrick Shiroishi, Sarah Tudzin, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Mark Guiliana, Matt Sweeney, Bryan Aiken, Jacob Bannon, Julien Baker (courtesy of Matador Records), Eric Avery, Stephen Perkins, Josh Klinghoffer, Chris Slorach, Zach Weeks, Brian Wolski & Derek Coburn. The band, who will be joining Queens of the Stone Age on their The End Is Nero Tour in August, have announced headline shows of their own. With more to be announced in the coming months, tickets for the current dates will go on sale this Thursday, 6/29 at 10:00am local time HERE. Read the full article

Do you know how many actresses have played Cosette and Christine? And how many on broadway?
Probably a huge percentage have played both, both being similar "type" roles and often produced by the same theatres/people. Specifically on Broadway I believe it's only Tracy Shayne, Ali Ewoldt, and Samantha Hill who have done both roles on Broadway. There are others that have done one role on Broadway and the other regionally/on the national tour. I know tumblr user southerncalcosette was making lists of those who had played both but she is no longer active. I was never an expert on productions/casts of Les Mis even when I was into the fandom, but here are some random ones I remember Daniela Braun (upcoming)Martina RumpfTamra HaydenLisa Anne WoodGina BeckRebecca CaineCara ChisholmJulia MollerAnnalene BeechleyJoke de KruijfSara SarresKatie HallDeborah DutcherValerie LinkAJ CallaghanEmmi ChristenssonElizabeth WelchTalia de ValMarina PriorMia Karlssonand like fifty more probably

We Are Young helps fulfill lifelong wishes of seniors
Is there something you've always wanted to do and never had the chance?
A Nova Scotia foundation makes dreams come true -- for seniors.
One of the co-founders of We Are Young is being recognized for changing the lives of the elderly.
It's the simple things, like getting a makeover, or watching a parade – and that generates a smile that makes it all worthwhile.
Katie Mahoney co-founded We Are Young with Cara Chisholm.
“Colleen has wanted to ride on a Zamboni since she was five years old,” Mahoney said. “That was something that we were able to do right here in our community that really didn't cost us a whole lot.”
At just 26 years old, Mahoney is trying to bridge the gaps between generations -- and she's succeeding by granting wishes to seniors across Nova Scotia.
“We're living in a province with the highest aging population per capita,” Mahoney said. “How many other elders are out there, wanting to reconnect with people or have more companionship in their life, or on a bigger scale, what are some dreams and aspirations that they still have that for some reason were unable to be fulfilled?”
Now, she might have her own wish granted.
“I've dedicated my time to this organization because our elders are still worth it,” Mahoney says in a video for the Women of Worth Award, from l'Oreal Paris.
The company recognized 10 women across the country with $10,000 for their organizations.
That money means a lot more wishes for people like Jim Legge.
“It's like, what's number one on your bucket list?” Legge said. “That's stroked off for me, so I've already done that.”
Riding in a glider plane was a lifelong dream for Legge.
Now, he hopes Mahoney can help even more seniors.
“I can do nothing but pat them on the back,” Legge said. “I think they're wonderful people who are doing wonderful things for other people. They're so incredibly selfless. They're really quite amazing, the amount of work that they put in just to bring other people's wishes come true.”
If Mahoney gets the most votes on her video, she will earn an additional $10,000 which will allow We Are Young to make more dreams come true.
“At any age, you can still do the things you love,” Mahoney said.
Voting is open on the Women of Worth website until March 4.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, Sharon Lee (Chisholm) Eggleston, 77, went to be with her Lord. Sharon lived her whole life holding the hope of heaven, longing for reunion with her Savior. We are certain she was not disappointed.
Sharon was born on February 9, 1943, in Portland, Oregon, the only surviving child of Vollie and Lois (Crawford) Chisholm. She trusted Jesus as her Savior at the age of four and began teaching others about Jesus through her church and through Child Evangelism Fellowship. She graduated from high school, attended Bob Jones University, returned to Oregon, and became connected with a Spanish-speaking community. The Lord led her to the Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas, which she attended to learn Spanish. While there, she struggled in school and developed an ulcer. She went to a faith healer, saying: "I don't believe in this guy, but I do believe the Lord heals," and the Lord healed her of her ulcer. In 1966, she went to Guadalajara, Mexico, to a Spanish-language school and then moved back to South Texas. In 1968, she met the love of her life, Bill Eggleston, at the Eleventh Hour Missionary Crusade in Pharr, Texas. On their return from a missionary day trip to Loma Alta, Mexico, Bill and Sharon crashed her new Volkswagen bug into a dead bull in the road, ruining the vehicle and leaving them stranded. A kind federal policeman drove them all the way back to Pharr, Texas. After a short courtship, Bill and Sharon were married on May 25, 1968.
Bill and Sharon enjoyed 52 years of a loving marriage together. They served as missionaries in Linares N.L., Mexico, from 1971-1975 and in South Texas from 1976-1980. During those years, Sharon taught first grade and they welcomed three sons, David, Jonathan, and Steven.
In 1980, Bill and Sharon moved their family to Yakima, WA, and made the agreement that Bill would provide for her and she would preach the gospel. Sharon touched the lives of many people with her faithful and consistent witness for Christ. In 1980, she began volunteering at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission in the ladies' clothing room. Each woman was allowed to select several pieces of free clothing, and Sharon shared the gospel with each one of them before they left. She also shared the gospel in Spanish or English with each family who came to receive a food box. Sharon devoted over 32 years of her life to ministry at the Mission.Sharon loved laughing, sewing, oil painting, drinking GOOD coffee, and teaching all of her boys how to cook. Most of all, she loved all things related to Jesus.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Bill, of 52 years, her three sons, David, Jonathan (Rissa), and Steven; her grandchildren, Deborah, Ian and Cara; and her quasi-adopted daughter and granddaughter, Jessica and River; her quasi-adopted son, Erik; and numerous members of the Crawford family. Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, March 4th at 3pm at Freedom Church (903 Lindy Lane Yakima, WA 98901). In lieu of flowers (Sharon would say: "Give me my flowers while I'm here!"), donations in Sharon's honor can be made to the Union Gospel Mission at 1300 North 1st Street; Yakima, WA, 98901.

OK, so the costumes featured in the Igor Portonoy gallery is definitely Canadian. To the left is Igor Portonoy, to the right is Canadian photos.
I must admit I don’t recognize the cast members he’s depicted with, but based on his comment “His North American credits include performances for the World Tour of The Phantom of the Opera“ I wanna say he toured with the Canadian Far East Tour in 1995.
