What do you remember, hero?

This my final artwork for @mcytblraufest's summer au fest, a Breath of the Wild AU where Tommy is Link and Tubbo is Zelda! Please click/tap on the image for the best quality!

This was a new stretch to my art abilities that was super fun to work on! You can find the AMAZING fic that accompanies this artwork here and it is written by the AMAZING @jrancherart!!! Thank you so much for dealing with my perfectionism 😭I couldn't've asked for a better writer! It was such a joy!

Accompanying sketches and additional artwork and rambalings on my process and my thoughts on the AU under the cut!

I tried my best to emulate the Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom promotional art style, having big visible brush strokes and thin lineart with a lot of harsh lighting. I hope i was able to capture that well! I wanted to give Tommy his white streak since well, he died and came back to life just like in canon! I thought it would be fun detail to carry over from DSMP into this AU!

Here are some scattered sketches of the boys! Me and JRancher (my writer) talked a lot about various character assignments for this au, and there's even a possibility of them continuing to write more oneshots for this au, so please give their story lots of love!!!

Since I made the whole background for this artwork, and the vast majority is covered up but the characters, here is the background by itsself. I think it's one of the best I've ever done!! :D As well, I also have created a gif of the progress it took me to make this! Sorry for the terrible quality on that... Each snapshot is about a day or 2's worth of work!

You can briefly see in the sketch there (the 1st image in the progress GIF), I originally wanted the silhouette of Dueling peaks perfectly centered in the background, with the gap in the mountains shining light down the center of the image. I thought it would perfectly complement the vertical nature of the piece! Unfortunately as I discovered, the spot where the memory is in BotW is no where near the center of the mountains. I wanted to remain accurate to the game so decided not to go with that and still tried to captire the light between the peaks coming down and splitting the image in half anyway!

Additionally, this composition is something i've been wanting to do for AGES! Initially just in reference to Link and Zelda, but I thought this AU would be the perfect excuse to use it! For each of the memories featured i wanted it to from Links perspective. Or what his perspective would've been, vs how the in-game camera moved to make the shots cinematic. I actually sketched out every memory that had a basically "highlighting Zelda" shot and sketched that shot from Link's POV, and after much consideration, ended up on the ones I have!

Anyway, this artwork had tons of research and time put into it, i ended up redoing plenty of sections and working it 'til I got it just right! I'm really happy with the result and I hope you like it too! Thanks for reading my thoughts and explanations on the process of this work, I hope it was interesting!

Taravangian - Jasnah parallels

How do I feel about my favorite character having so many parallels with the main antogonist? Awesome. And terrified.

Both believe they are doing everything for the "greater good™" but in reality don't always do (because it's impossible). I don't really need to add here, it's what the whole debate thing was about. Taravangian tried to prove to Jasnah that she wasn't doing everything for the greater good, but with that he proved to her that not only SHE wasn't doing it, but that it's impossible to do. Taravangian, however still thinks HE can do it.

Both love their family very much and will betray their principles to save them. Again, self-explanatory and explored in the book. Interesting, that in neither cases killing the family member would have actually led to any good outcome. Renarin's "seeing the future interferes with other people doing the same" saved the good guys, while just killing his family with the rest of the city wouldn't have accomplished anything for T.

Both, really, REALLY need to prove their point to people. With Jasnah someone in the book (either Shallan or Dalinar) said it better than me. I can't find the quote, which annoys me, but it was something along the lines of "Jasnah didn't only prove her point, she hammered it into you". Taravangian ALWAYS tries to prove his point to people. He can't just defeat them, he NEEDS them to admit he is right. He can't just captire Thaylenah, he has to set up a debate to convince Jasnah and Fen that he is right. He can't just win the contest, he has to make Dalinar agree with him (I have so much more on this, but it deserves it's own post).

Both don't really believe in hope. Jasnah says it out loud multiple times. T doesn't have any hope for saving the world other than Kharbranth by the end of Oathbringer and doesn't have any faith in Dalinar's coalition and saving the world from Odium (see his conversation with Dalinar in Rhythm of war). He thinks that his ways are the only ways by which they could save anything (only Kharbranth in the end).

Both are rulers that don't exactly have their kingdoms anymore, but love them nontheless.

Both of them respect Dalinar a lot.

Both of them end WaT in tears because their enemy has proven correct. For Jasnah it's T himself (in her opinion), for T it's Dalinar with his "Cursing Dalinar for having been right". I am not sure in what Dalinar was proven correct, though, would welcome your opinions.

Bonely King.

The Bonely King AU is meant to be a post-neutral run AU based around the King Papyrus Ending. In this AU, Frisk ONLY killed Toriel, Undyne And Mettaton.

In his time as King, Papyrus set about as bringing as many improvements and restoring the Underground to its former Glory. With the Disappearance of Undyne, The Royal Guard needed a new captain, with Mad Mew Mew (Who had found the Mew Mew Kissy Cutey Body themselves) becoming the new captain. Monster Kid became a Royal Guard recruit. After much convincing and begging from Papyrus, Sans became the Royal scientist. The ruins were opened up and came under the control of Muffet, who was able to reunite the Spider Clans with the assessment of Papyrus.

In the Snowdin area, far away from town a New Captiral was built, Being named The Cool Capital. Here, In a large puzzle-filled Castle lived Papyrus and the live-in royal scientist Sans. The Dog sentries became The Castle guards as recruitments for new guardsmen went out.

Three years after Frisk left the underground another human fell, intent on killing every monster they came across. News travelled quickly and the people were stricken with fear, looking for hope. King Papyrus was the one to answer the call, quickly travelling back to his former home of Snowdin Town to stop the human. He weakened them and tried to spare them, convincing them to stop and live with him, The human tried to kill him, and in shocked retaliation, Papyrus accidentally killed them.

Sans quickly arrived, placing the soul into a container and comforting his brother. The duo quickly returned to the Castle, With Papyrus refusing to appear for weeks upon weeks, lost in his grief. Meanwhile, the monsters were spreading the news that their new King had already claimed a new soul, and surely it meant that he was following King Asgore’s path, with celebrations happening across the underground.

In his attempts to convince his brother to leave his room, Sans accidentally reveals the true fate of their friends. This does not help, but does give Papyrus a new perspective. A Month Later, Papyrus exits his room, with a grim determination.

He declares that his “Case By Case” policy will continue, but will be more intense. Kind humans will be protected until they succumb to health problems, but dangerous humans will be subjected to life-threatening puzzles and their souls collected. He stays steadfast in this decision even as many monsters protest.

I think I figured out why I always thought Zutara was weird. When ATLA was first airing, I was only able to watch the first 10 episodes of Book 1, when Zuko was the Big Bad of the show. Then I lost access to cable (which was the only way I could access fancy channels like Nickelodeon, to any Gen Z's used to streaming shows reading this), so I wasn't able to watch ATLA at all until I got a computer and internet a few years later. By the time I was able to watch ATLA on Nick.com Book 3 was just airing. And that's when I discovered DeviantArt and Youtube AMVs. Which was also where I discovered all these Zutara fanart. Of Katara and Zuko kissing and getting married. And mind you, the last time I saw Zuko, he was fighting Aang, Katara, and Zuko and trying to captire Aang. And I thought he was bald and ugly.

And middle school me was so confused by that LOL.

losing my mind looking for a star wars fic: it was a completed 1-2chapter fic where ahsoka and obi-wan have been captured and are going to be tortured for information. more specifically, their captirs are going to torture obi-wan to get ahsoka to talk. obi-wan reveals to her his past experiences with torture in an effort to get her to understand the importance of not giving up the info no matter what they do to him. he regrets that anakin hasn’t prepared her properly for this, because anakin would always choose his loved one over the mission. the torture is fade to black(i believe?) but eventually they are rescued. ahsoka did not reveal the information, but as a result obi-wan lost a limb to his torturers, and anakin is pissed at ahsoka for not giving up the info, but obi-wan tells her he’s proud of her. it was really dark and lowkey upsetting to read but SO well written and the fact that i can’t find it is driving me nuts
