Guys we really need to start paying more attention to law and order OC as well because its Elliot’s show and it allows us to see his side of the story so there are a few instances where Olivia makes an appearance and he asked her once “what is this” and replied “a friendship”. Another time he asks her about her relationship while he was gone and she replies “ seriously?!”. In OC he takes his chances to ask her around whenever he can but in SVU thats not so much the case because it’s Olivia’s show and we wont know how she feels unless she voices it out.

Skarking
Portrayed by Peter Dinklage
In the dark depths of the Hollow Earth, an old, yet mighty undiscovered beast basks in the glory of it's dozens of victories. The creature surrounds it's throneroom lair with countless piles of bone creating a rotten vale. This mysterious beast, with piercing glowing blue eyes containing a hidden power, awaiting the arrival of its next victim.
For this unknown member of Kong's species motives are still unclear, as it leeches off the life of the Hollow Earth, like Lazarus, the beast still lives despite it's natural age. The creature senses the cataclysmic battle between the last of his own kind, against the last of the Gojira, suddenly they both align with each other. Though the old ways of the ancient rivalry may be dead for Godzilla & Kong, the old traditions flourish and shall be enforced upon them by the wrath of this colossal destructor.

20 years on, I still think Jason Isaacs is the best Captain Hook.
Tumblr media
Now, there are other Hooks that have been done after him that I mostly love (*slaps Warner Bros. upside the head* NOT YOURS) but Jason is exactly who I picture when I read about Hook.
He maintained the perfect balance of being funny ("YOU CALL THAT A FAVOUR?!") but also being legitimately intimidating. I like a good funny Hook, but J.M. Barrie's Captain Hook is a scary villain in the book. And that's what we saw with Jason Isaacs' performance. Especially in the scene where he taunt Peter with the reality of Wendy growing up. True, it's not in the book, but it's still very much in-character for Hook to do that.
Also this is the only on-screen Hook that i know of whose eyes glow red, like they did in the book.
Tumblr media
He was also sexy. Yep, that's part of Barrie's Hook too. He is an attractive man. Jason describes it quite brilliantly as "seductive yet repulsive at the same time". It presumably goes back to the satire on gender standards Barrie was writing with George Darling, because Hook is a charming, attractive gentleman who carries himself well, but is also a cruel, vile villain. Yet would still be more respected in Edwardian society than George because, you know, Hook went to Eton.
And his attractiveness does tie in to Wendy developing her sexuality in this film. Yes, the uncomfortable sexual tension between Wendy and Hook was 100% intentional. So, there's another layer to his villainy. I've seen that aspect of Hook's character be done in another film (The Lost Girls) and... yeah, it was too much. Too obvious.
Jason Isaacs' Captain Hook is representative of the darker side of growing up. And for a PG family film done in 2003, it's pretty incredibly how much they were able to get away with in just how dark of a villain he was.
I'll finish (for now) with saying that Jason also has an incredible understanding of the appeal of this story, and the appeal of this film in particular. So, I highly recommend looking that up, particularly with this interview
Couldn't have asked for a better Captain Hook. Also congrats, Jason, on cementing Hook as one of the ultimate Daddy Issues villain crushes.

i learned about one of the most amazing historical facts.
Tumblr media
In 1965, a group of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 16 decided that it would be a good idea to steal a fisherman's boat to go sailing for a few hours.
Before sailing they brought food that they took from their homes and a few. liters of water they were able to collect.
That same day they set sail on an adventure, the problem was that the children fell asleep after sailing for a few hours.
When they woke up they realized that they were adrift and that the boat had been damaged by the waves. They drifted for several days, when luckily they reached an uninhabited island.
Tumblr media
The children managed to get water from the coconuts and to eat the occasional fish they found. The real luck came when they climbed to the top of a cliff and found an abandoned settlement where they could stay.
The children established rules, worked in pairs, and there were even punishments if anyone disobeyed.
After 1 year and three months specifically, the Australian captain Peter Warner discovered the abandoned children after detecting smoke from a campfire.
Tumblr media
"The children had set up a small commune with a food garden, hollowed-out tree trunks to store rainwater, a gym with weights, a badminton court, chicken coops, and a permanent fire."
Peter Warner wrote in his memoirs.
The children were generally in good health when Warner found them. However, upon his return, the boys were imprisoned for stealing the boat. Warner secured the rights to a documentary on their survival story on the condition that they be released and recreated on camera.

Welcome to Letters2fiction!
The concept here is to send in a question or a letter request, and you’ll get a response from your fictional character of choice, from the list below. Please stick to the list I’ve made, but of course, you can ask if there’s some other characters I write for, I don’t always remember all the shows, movies or books I’ve consumed over the years and I’m sure I’m missing a lot 😅

I have had three theories since the beginning of the season. Especially after watching Bobby on the cruise ship. These are them.
1. A big structure/skyscraper fire. One where the entire 118 gets trapped and Bobby is outside as IC. In episode 2 this season, we have Bobby saying he needs his team and his team saving him. He gets to repay the favor and says “My team needs me!” And rushes in to save them. Also within theory, the trapped dad’s theory that has been circling for two season now.
2. They are gonna give us Buddie crumbs. Not a full on confession or realization but a little moment where you can see the narrative. The trapped dads, the will and whatever else is going on are the basis of my theory. What those crumbs will be, I don’t know.
3. Bobby gets offered a promotion because of what he does in the finale. After making amends and coming to terms with his past finally, he will be recognized for saving his family and others. Either we see his decision in the finale during the ceremony or it’s left til next season. This would shake up the cast and leave it open for Ravi/Anirudh to become a main or series regular and Hen promoted to captain if Bobby accepts. New network and shakeups are bound to happen.
Other than that, I don’t know. Oh Malcolm Jamal Warner character is not necessarily from Bobby’s past with the fire but his childhood. He and Peter are mostly the same age. He also may tie into Eddie’s storyline too.
I have thoughts on BuckTommy too but in no way am I ever going to post that. Let’s just say I’m not sold on them being a long term relationship.

I think it helps that James Gunn is Jewish and Irish (Irish ancestry on his father’s side and Jewish from his mother) so maybe they’ll be a reduction in antisemitism in the comic movie industry, or maybe I’m a little too optimistic lol. But it got me thinking, the contributions that Jewish people have made to entertainment, especially comic books and movies are just so wonderful and immense so I don’t understand why people are so determined to erase their representation in the media. Whether it’s people “boycotting” Sabra (Israeli marvel superhero set to premiere in MCU in Captain America movie), Magneto and Scarlet Witch being portrayed by non Jewish white actors (Quicksilver in the MCU is played by Aaron Taylor Johnson, who is Jewish. However Evan Peters is not Jewish), fans dismissing Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne’s Jewish backgrounds, dismissing the stories of the Jewish immigrants who created the DC/Marvel superheroes and villains that we know of today and how those stories influenced the creation and portrayal of these characters in the comics, etc.
It’s as if they want all the benefits of Jewish cultures and creations, but not the Jewish people themselves. As a black person, I know that feeling all too well. They want everything about us… just not us.
that’s been the case with antisemites for centuries. clear back when the romans decided to adopt their own version of torah, adding jesus and extras, while actively making it illegal for jews to be jewish in OUR land. it happens in everything jews set foot in and improve.
I actually got into a brief argument with some dudebro a while ago because he was saying Bruce was “half jewish”, and I was like “um no, he was just jewish. all you need is one parent.” and he kept arguing with me. like. dude. I’M JEWISH. you’re gonna tell me how MY culture works?? because you don’t want your batman “full jew”? it was……a wild time. even David Mazouz, the jewish child actor who played Bruce in the Gotham series, said an exec at Warner Bros told him he looked “too jewy” to play batman. a jew looks too jewish to play a jew.
now we’ve got chuckle fucks trying to retcon magneto into some antisemitic leftist icon. ironic that they killed off immediately the only quicksilver to be played by an actual jew. oh also, I found out a while ago that superman originally had green eyes and they were changed to blue once they started making him a christ figure instead of a Moses allegory. :) I’m not mad about that at all. :)
we built hollywood, we built the comic industry, and we’re consistently pushed out of both places specifically for being jews.

What book that you had to read for school have you hated the most?
lord of the flies
because i just. dislike that book
like
it's just. i really dislike it
Context:
I first determined i disliked the lord of the flies before i read it
I read a book called Humankind: A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman and in that book he talks about how there was a real lord of the flies situation and it did not, in fact, end in chaos and death
I didn't want to say i disliked it without having actually read it, so i read the book
then, a month later i had to read it for school
fast forward a few more months, i am writing an argumentative essay for the same class and I decide to write it on why humans are actually usually good deep down (mainly as a way to convince myself later on when i was in doubt)
here is an excerpt from the lord of the flies part of my essay, in case you were wondering what i meant about there being a real situation:
....This provides evidence for the idea that humans are born with a preference for good. Some skeptics, upon hearing this, will immediately reference one story, saying, “Well, if kids are supposed to be showing how innocent people really are, then how about the invidious children in the Lord of the Flies? They were savages the second that they were rid of adults. Their belligerence shows the true bellicose way of mankind.” This is simply not true. First-- the Lord of the Flies is a fictional book written by a bitter, devout alcoholic, a man who considered the book to be “a joke,” (Carey), and second-- Lord of the Flies happened in the late 60s, and the outcome is nothing like what Golding had thought would happen. Lord of the Flies is a book about a group of British school-boys, at the beginning of a fictitious world war. The boys are stranded on a deserted island, with no adults, after their plane is shot down. The boys agree that they will survive, have fun, and keep a signal fire burning until they are rescued. Eventually, the boys split into two “tribes” after the fire goes out and there are differing priorities. Three boys are dead, two murdered, and the forest is set on fire, before a British naval officer spots the smoke and comes to rescue the boys. After the officer’s comment about expecting more from the boys, Ralph, the leader of the pack, breaks down and starts to sob. “...Ralph wept for the end of innocence, [and] the darkness of man's heart…” (Golding 202). Lord of the Flies is meant to show that, without society, humans are infantile, savage beasts who will immediately resort to violence and brutality the second they have the chance. This, though, is a fictional book. While many people believe Golding’s work accurately depicts human nature, it has been proven to be wrong. In 1966, a group of six Tongan boys were found and rescued from an uninhabited island. They had left their boarding school with an agenda of escaping to Fiji on a fishing boat, when a storm hit; their sail was in tatters, and their rudder broken. For eight days the boat drifted, and the boys’ food supply depleted. They used coconut shells to gather rainwater, then split it evenly.  When the boys finally saw land, it was the uninhabited, rocky island of ‘Ata. They were stranded there for just over a year. By the time they were rescued, by Australian ship captain, Peter Warner, they had set up “a small commune with food garden, hollowed-out tree trunks to store rainwater, a gymnasium with curious weights, a badminton court, chicken pens, and a permanent fire, all from handiwork, an old knife blade and much determination.” (Warner 19). In Lord of the Flies, the boys could not keep their fire going and that became the start of the conflict. On the island of ‘Ata, the six boys kept a fire going from three months after they were stranded, to the day they were rescued. Any conflict that they had was resolved by having the feuding pair go to two respective parts of the island, and come back to apologize when they calmed down. There were no battles or extreme arguments, and the only injury was when one boy fell off a cliff, breaking his leg. The boys used sticks to set his leg and it healed with no permanent damage, confounding doctors who would later examine them. This was a real life example of boys being left to fend for themselves with no adults on a deserted island, and they behaved perfectly. This is still not enough to convince the cynics of the world....
anyway
yeah.
lord of the flies
