Captain Kujira!
Once the illustrious pirate captain, Captain Koji, he was known for his fearless and tight knit crew.
On one sailing expedition, Koji's crew found themselves lost amidst a giant storm. When one of his crewmates got tossed overboard, Koji dove to save them, but tragically lost his own life.
Koji revived, now possessed by the spirit known as the bake-kujira, and became known as Captain Kujira. However, he lost his memories in the process.

Your Result:
Antarctic Godzilla
Some of the cryptids on the lower end of the tier list are here because they suck. But obscurity can also land what *could* be a heavy hitter on the bench, and that's what's happened here with Antarctic Godzilla. ______________________________________________________________________ Antarctic Godzilla is a massive aquatic cryptid that was spotted only once in 1958 by the captain of the Soya-maru, a Japanese research ship. This particular trip was a bit of a disaster because the ship got stuck in the ice, and that led to an air evacuation and some Big Decisions made about some dogs, go look up Taro and Jiro. ______________________________________________________________________ Anyways, after she got stuck in the ice and an American icebreaker ship helped her out, on their way back to Japan, the Soya's crew reported seeing a large creature in the water. It was described as having a long head that looked like a cow from the front with big eyes and pointed ears. The top of the head was rounded and ape-like, and the creature was covered in dark brown fur around 3 inches long. The creature was said to be huge and had a ridge or fin on its back. ______________________________________________________________________ Despite the fact that OG Goji had only debuted four years earlier, he'd made such an impression that this giant sea monster could only be described in terms of the first daikaiju. And that actually kinda works! This is a whale with an ape face, and Godzilla's name comes from the Japanese words for gorilla, which is just "gorira," and "kujira," which means “whale." And this thing did appear to be a gorilla whale! It has never been spotted again and realistically was just a regular whale or a big seal. But this thing's pretty cool, and more people should know about it, even if it's a bottom tier cryptid because it's only been seen the once and didn't do anything. ______________________________________________________________________ If you're Antarctic Godzilla, you leave an impression on people. They don't forget you easily, and in some cases, they're still thinking about you. You keep things close to the vest; you're fairly introverted and you don't want people to know what you're feeling or thinking. You worry a lot that opening up is an unwarranted risk, and you just aren't sure if you're ready for that. You don't actually enjoy being the main character all that much; you have hidden depths and you'd much rather enjoy them personally than bring anyone else in.
I made another bad quiz! Go find out what D-tier cryptid you are. I'm so sorry if it's the Wabash Catfish.

I wanted to start posting it only in a few days but my computer disk is hella full so I’m posting the first chapters now instead! Also, yes if you must ask, I am too lazy to put this on Ao3, might do later. And, by the way, please don’t attack my writing skills, I am merely a French trying her best :) Enjoy!
CHAPTER 1/?: UNWELCOME ARRIVAL
The jolts of the sea were softening as the first lights of dusk appeared. Under proud ember clouds, the Mud Whale bathed, quiet and humble, in this scarlet radiance. A veil of silence had fallen over the ship, granting a few fishing birds a final sonata.
Orca remembered stepping on Faleina in this manner. His ivory prosthesis was the first to set foot on the sandy earth, disgracefully. This inhuman, repulsive object, roaming this green and lush place. He remembered the sea breeze in his hair which had been pleasant to him and he had stopped his steps near the ledge for a few moments to try understanding it better. The swarming nature of this island had surprised him all the more; he observed with cold curiosity the appearance of a rugged tree, that of a speckled variegated plant ... The flora here was impregnably beautiful; and that he understood as a fact. Deep down inside, he would have liked to linger there and feel the effect these smallest things had on his heart. To feel moved for these wonderful things. But he knew he couldn't. He could only measure the objective prettiness of his surroundings. No, things hadn't worked that way for a long time.
Walking alongside his sister and this boy named Chakuro, Orca entered a small room with a low ceiling and ocher walls, supposedly made of clay. Candles were slowly burning on the wooden table, lighting up the face of the Captain of Faleina and his advisers. The grim of their features as well as the dark circles under their eyes testified to the seriousness and the applied reflections in which they had immersed themselves. There were a few head lifts following his entry. And then ... Exclamations of surprise, of horror. Faces paling.
"You ... What are you doing here ?!, stuttered one of the young advisers, a stringy man with red hair, almost choking.
Fear was on his face, making his hands tremble. This dread took only a second to be communicated to the others who all cowered and backed off into the tight corners. Their captain, on the contrary, did not recoil. He offered him his weary smile and pointed to an empty space near him, inviting him to join them.
"Sir Orca ... My apologies. I did not warn them of your visit ... "
Confident in his interpretations, Orca discerned a slight change in the captain. It wasn't that tired anguish weighing down the others’ hearts, but rather something of a different nature, a superior effect that had gulped the energy out of his being. This exhaustion had withdrawn all depth from his eyes, leaving him looking like a living doll. Quite the opposite of what he had seen of him in this jail; this weakened but risk-all leader, continuing to tirelessly protect the executioner who had nevertheless imprisoned him. Even among his own, he seemed to be the staunch optimist, endowed with an infallible, sometimes ridiculous faith. Where had his iron will gone?
A young man he hadn't immediately noticed stepped forward in his direction, feigning confidence unsuccessfully. Like Orca, he too stood out in this room. The way in which he wore his weapon on his belt and his atypical lace clothes made him easily identifiable with Amonlogia.
"What the hell are you doing he-!" "
Orca cut him off in a sharp voice.
" We do not have the time  ".
The young man retreated, barely concealing his dismay under a stubborn mask.
With a determined movement, Orca turned to the captain, making his attire flutter. This abrupt gesture earned him a stinging reminder of the wounds he had accumulated and chosen to ignore, but his face remained unchanged.
“Sir Suoh,” Orca said grimly, “Can you help me protect this island? "
The light had faded outside again and the candles were reaching the end of their wax base, glowing with the intensity of their last bursts. The single ray of light coming out of the upper window , along with the ocean's regular bumps against the walls, gave off the suffocating feeling of being trapped into a narrow boat hold. Shadows passed over the faces of the advisers and fear combined with resignation earned the charisma of a frightened battalion, preparing for its last assault. The friction of feverish clothes weighed down an already nervous silence.
"Yes I can," Suoh said solemnly.
And for a brief moment, it had occurred to Orca, that the vacant mist in his eyes had vaporised.

Generation 1 of my FMA OCs, featuring @cybzilla‘s Augustus Fischer! ♡
Augustus Fischer (61) - Military Captain (CV: Shinshū Fuji)
Married to Francine and father of William and Mitzie. He is Cassie's paternal grandfather.
He lost his eye in the military and has a glass eye, but wears an eyepatch instead because Mitzie told him it would look cooler.
He's a simple man of simple tastes, unlike his wife and daughter.
He does Illegal Things, but Francine does ILLEGAL THINGS™ so he doesn't get to see her often.
He dies to save Dodger, Mitzie's bodyguard (and future husband), from being shot.
William never meets his father but attends his funeral. While there, Mitzie tells him that she can see their resemblance.
He's the reason William, Lucy, and Cassie tend to blush easily.
Francine Falcone (64) - Mafia Boss (CV: Kujira)
Married to Augustus and mother of William and Mitzie. She is Cassie's paternal grandmother.
She is an Aerugoian immigrant.
She met Gus while he was on military business in Aerugo; they quickly fell in love and she returned with him to Amestris.
She is a part of the infamous Falcone family, which is a major player of the mafia circle. She is Carmine Falcone’s sister.
To keep William safe, she changed his last name and Mitzie kept Gus’ last name.
She raised William at a distance until he was old enough to be on his own while Mitzie was raised by Gus; after this, she disappeared so her family wouldn't be targeted. Despite having good intentions, Francine is the reason why William makes sure to be involved in his daughters' lives so much since he never got an involved parent as a child.
When Augustus died, she came to his funeral despite the risks involved. After this, he never saw her again.
She has expensive taste and loves anything luxurious, much like her daughter.
She has fantastic aging genes, which she passes down to her children and grandchildren (they keep their brown hair 'til their sixties).
Irene Marlowe (43) - Tailor (CV: Kikuko Inoue)
She is Linda's mother, making her Cassie's maternal grandmother.
She taught William how to sew when she found out Linda was pregnant so he could make clothes for his children.
Her brooch was a gift from Linda's father before he left; she likes to hold it when she thinks of him.
Irene claims Linda gets her restlessness from her father since they both love to travel.
Irene dies at 43 due to tuberculosis. She was living with William, Linda, and Lucy at the time and was happy being around her family.
She spoiled Lucy as a child; if she lived to meet Cassie, she would have spoiled her, too.
When Irene dies, Linda leaves to find her father. When she does find him, he's already had a child with another woman. Furious, Linda kicks him in the groin to make sure he won't be able to have any more kids.
While she's angry with her father, Linda feels no ill-will towards the other woman nor her half-sister, Cassandra. They bond while she's "visiting" and she eventually decides to name her unborn daughter after her.
Na Lai (28) - Bomb Maker (CV: Satsuki Yukino)
She is Jin's mother.
When she was 18, she was chosen as the Xingese emperor's first concubine despite secretly being a lesbian.
While she didn't love the emperor, she loved Jin dearly and tried to protect him from the world as best she could.
She trained Jin to fight from a young age by lacing their home with traps and bombs. Jin learned how to navigate them, and while Na didn't want to teach her son how to fight so young she knew it would keep him out of harm's way.
Jin was born biologically female but identifies as male. Na could tell he felt this way since he rejected his assigned gender since he was little, and dressed him in boy's clothes. Her support was integral to him feeling comfortable with his identity.
Because of Jin being the emperor's first child and therefore first in line for the Xingese throne, he was targeted by assassins from other clans all his life. Na wanted a better life for him, so she smuggled him out of Xing when he was young. However, she was killed by assassins while doing so.
Jin eventually took up Na's craft and vowed to help reform the system, be it through violence or otherwise.

End-of-Year Butai/Musical Ask
So, I was tagged by @allyyyyy0619, so let’s answer some questions. Honestly, I spend a lot more time on answering these questions than I should have!
Firstly, how did you manage to find out about 2.5D butai/musical? Which butai/musical was your first and your impression of it?
In all honestly, I have trouble remembering, but… I think the very first musical I watched was Rock Musical Bleach. And I don’t mean the 2016 version, I’m talking about the musicals that were in the theater over 10 years ago! I probably stumbled upon it somewhere on youtube. I absolutely loved Bleach around that time, so… yeah, let’s just blame youtube. The first couple Bleach musicals weren’t the best, but for whatever reason I still got hooked on it. Then, since the cast of the original Bleach run is more or less identical to the first Seigaku cast, I discovered Tenimyu… despite a previous negative experience with the anime, I decided to give the musicals a try.
This is actually a funny story, I wonder If I ever told anyone about this. The whole reason I learned about the Prince of Tennis anime series is… BECAUSE I COULDN’T REMEMBER THE NAME OF AN AMERICAN TV SHOW PROPERLY! My friend was hooked on some show and I was planning to watch it too and tried to find it online. At this moment I’m still unsure what show I tried to find, but I happened to be looking for “Prince of Tenis”… Anyway, I watched the first episode, didn’t like it and dropped the series. The Prince of Tennis musicals really quickly grew on me though, so I gave the anime another try later. I concluded the first episode was just crap and the rest of the series was rather awesome!
And that’s how I ended up in the world of 2.5D and couldn’t leave anymore… at least, that’s how I remember it…
Who was your first favourite 2.5D actor/actress? Why?
Um, Nagayama Takashi I suppose? I really like(d) Hitsugaya as a character, so the moment I started watching the musical I was already biased towards him, but also really did a good job! Then, Kikumaru also basically became my favorite Tenipuri character, so… Nagayama Takashi it is! And probably Kimeru, because Fuji was my second favorite Tenipuri character and god, that guy knows how to sing! Although I can’t actually call myself a fan of either anymore, I’m always happy to see Kimeru on stage. His voice is still as amazing as ever!
However, if we start talking about the first actor I actually liked enough to start buying merchandise it was probably Aiba Hiroki? (I’m not sure why, I just liked him…) Then came Furukawa Yuta (I loved his voice!) and after that Sasaki Yoshihide (he can sing, he can dance, he’s adorable!) …all of this happened quite a long time ago. While it’s a bit harder (let’s say, impossible) to say for the others, I can still remember the exact moment I completely fell for Sasaki Yoshihide… (Have I ever told that story?)
Top 3 (or more) favourite butai of the year?
Wait, you’re expecting me to remember everything I’ve seen this year? And even rank them? Um, let me just list down a couple of plays I remember watching this year and enjoying!
So, in no particular order: Stage Play Touken Ranbu (Moeyuru Honnouji Saien, Akatsuki no Dokuganryu, Kono Yora no Odawara), Rengoku ni Warau, Noragami (Kami to Negai), Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau, Present5 (All), CHaCK-UP (+ Episode.0), Yowamushi pedal (Everything up to “The Winner”), Live Spectacle Naruto (2015/2016), Tokyo Ghoul (2017), Ensemble stars (on Stage / Judge of Knights). (Note: this is not a complete list of everything I’ve seen. It’s a list of plays I remember thoroughly enjoying. Not saying I didn’t enjoy those other plays, just saying I enjoyed these more in comparison.)
All right, let me attempt a bit of a ranking.
1) Stage Play Touken Ranbu -Moeyuru Honnouji- (Saien) Shiina Taizo made me fall in love with Fudo Yukimitsu. You can say whatever you want, but having Fudo/Taizo in this play is probably the reason I’m ranking it first. Well, I guess it’s actually the entire cast & staff that earned this play a No.1 spot. (I probably prefer (the cast of) the original run btw.)
2) Stage Play Touken Ranbu - Akatsuki no Dokuganryu- And this play comes at No.2, because I can still remember how extremely excited I felt when I left the theater after watching it. This play was great! The Date swords kind of grew on me, and my love for Yamanbagiri and Sayo only deepened!
3) Stage Play Touken Ranbu -Kono Yora no Odawara- Can I list this? I know it’s super short, but… the story was just super cute! I’m totally in love with Sayo and Yamanbagiri and having them and Hasebe being the focus of the story just…! These boys are too amazing!
4) CHaCK-UP (Episode.0) I’m not entirely sure why I’m putting this on No.4, but it probably has something to do with the absolute ridiculousness of this play. (This is a play, right?) I haven’t quite seen all of this “series”, but I’ve seen enough to think it’s absolutely hilarious. Whenever I have money available, I guess I’ll check out what else DMM has available for rent…
5) Rengoku ni Warau / Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau No.5 is a tie. Both series are up here, because these plays did give me an urge to actually look into the series behind them. Currently gathering all the Rengoku ni Warau manga volumes & following the Kujira no Kora wa Sajo ni utau anime series. And yes, the plays were pretty great too!
Top 3 (or more) least favourite butai of the year?
No ranking, but since I feel like I have to name some, I’d say Patalliro and Rusted Armors. Patalliro is a great play, absolutely! But I’m not familiar enough with the series to be super excited about it, nor did it give me the urge to look into the series. (And yet I did enjoy it enough to accept a friend’s request to subtitle it.) Rusted Armor was pretty good too, I loved the costumes & acting! It’s just, I still have trouble understanding the story (I watched it when I was super tired, so I missed half of what was going on), hence it’s among my least favorites of this year. Once I find some time to watch it again and possibly understand the story better, its rank might change. Really, what I mostly remember is Teruma’s ridiculous outfit, yet amazing vocals! Wait, they were all singing…? Why the heck do they call this a stage play! It’s a fricking musical!
Top 3 (or more) favourite musical of the year?
Did I mention I’m terrible at rankings? So, again… some musical I enjoyed in no particular order: Ultra Musical Bakumatsu Rock (Kurofune Raiko, Climax live), Musical Touken Ranbu (Mihotose no Komoriuta, Tsuwamonodomo ga yume no ato, Shinken Ranbu Sai 2017), Rock Musical Bleach 2016, Namashitsuji (Noah’s Arc Circus), Datsugoku Kageki Nanabaka, Saiyuki Kagekiden (Burial, Reload) , Tenimyu (Hyotei Team Live, Dream Live 2017, Seigaku/Rokkaku Team Party) (Note: this is not a complete list of everything I’ve seen. It’s a list of musicals I remember thoroughly enjoying. Not saying I didn’t enjoy those other musicals, just saying I enjoyed these more in comparison.)
Good, and if I attempt a ranking:
1) Musical Touken Ranbu -Mihotose no Komoriuta- First I had some doubts about this cast, so many unfamiliar names and characters I hardly know, but god… I fell in love with all these guys! Watching it in the theater was just absolutely amazing! Yes, I think Team Mihotose may be my favorite at this moment! The character dynamics are just really great. (Thank you Mokkun/Sengo Muramasa!)
2)      …
Good, this isn’t working! I can’t seem to rank the musicals!
Top 3 (or more) least favourite musical of the year?
Yeah, a ranking is not happening… If I have to call out some musicals as my least favorite of this year, it would be Live Spectacle Naruto -Akatsuki no shirabe-  and Musical Hakuoki -Sano-hen- at this moment.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved Live Spectacle Naruto! Unfortunately, from my seat in the theater most of the projections didn’t line up, so I haven’t had a chance to enjoy this musical in it’s full glory. (I’m calling it a musical btw. Too many songs to call it a play!) And there is still the pacing of the play that slightly bothers me. But I really hope to watch it again some time. So, if anyone has the DVD or BD and is willing to share a rip with me… (Please?)
Musical Hakuoki -Sano-hen- is here, because no matter how much I love that cast, there is just something about the pacing or the way the story is told that doesn’t work for me. It’s not just this musical, I’ve had it with more of them. Somehow this musical series just doesn’t work for me, even though the cast is amazing. (I think I mentioned before sometime that I can only seem to enjoy Reimeiroku…)
Top 3 (or more) favourite actors/actress of the year?
Not another ranking! I’m terrible at rankings!
Sasaki Yoshihide Yeah, after all this time I guess Hide is still my No.1
Sakiyama Tsubasa This guys is too adorable! I love how he can be serious, but is super immature at the same time.
Aramaki Yoshihiko He is too adorable (too)! How can a guy be that cute!?
Shiina Taizo / Suzuki Hiroki I can’t chose, so I just put them down on a shared No.4. They are both just amazing!
Ota Motohiro His Sengo Muramasa was probably my favorite thing of this year! He went beyond all my expectations of what Sengo could be!
Top 3 (or more) rookie actors/rising actors whom you’ve high hopes for in the future?
Um, I honestly don’t know who we would still call rookie actors and who aren’t. Really, pretty much any actor that wasn’t part of Tenimyu season one still counts as a rookie for me… So, I’ll just be listing a couple actors I hope to see more of in the future…
Sato Ryuji All right, he’s like super popular already, I know. But his rise in fame went pretty quick. I’m really interested to see if he can keep this up or not. Of course, I hope he’ll do good!
Sakiyama Tsubasa After taking on the role of captain in Mihotose, his popularity appears to be on the rise too. Since I’ve come to like him quite a bit, I’m really interested to see what he can do from here on.
Ohira Shunya Maybe this is just a personal thing, but I have this feeling that Shunya’s been improving incredibly in a short amount of time, especially in his vocals. And I really feel he’s gaining more and more popularity. Aside from that, I think he’s adorable, so yes, I hope he’ll keep rising and improving!
Aramaki Yoshihiko This guy is too adorable and I hope he’ll be able to stick around for a while in the 2.5D business!
Top 3 (or more) favourite butai/musical related drama/movie of the year?
I very much feel like I haven’t really watched any related drama or movies…
Yowamushi Pedal drama (1st season)…? I think it may have been last year that I watched this one actually? Pretty much watched it, just because… Well, I guess I knew a couple of the actors in it… hadn’t seen the musicals yet.
So for this year, I’ve seen half of FIVE… pretty much started watching it, because everyone was talking about it (Well, about Sato Ryuji and Kuroba Mario being part of the cast), but then couldn’t find time to watch the second half…
And, I kind of started watching the anime of Sengoku Night Blood (ah, they’re turning it in a play, aren’t they?), because of some familiar names in the voice actor cast… aka, Sasaki Yoshihide, Kitamura Ryo and Aramaki Yoshihiko) I haven’t watched more than 2-3 episodes at this moment though, because storywise it’s not extremely captivating (yet)…
Um, yes… that wasn’t a top 3 or anything, just me randomly mentioning what I’ve seen…
Top 3 (or more) actors/actress that you think have the best singing voice?
Um, you’re asking for a top 3? I doubt I could give you a top 10! There are many, many amazing singers to be found in the 2.5D world! So, I’m just randomly going to throw out some names here, all right?
Itokawa Yojiro, holy shit that guy just blew me away with his vocal performance during the Bakumatsu Rock climax live!
Kimeru, he’s been doing amazing ever since Tenimyu.
Spi, all I’ve heard him sing in Toumyu was flawless! This guy’s voice is incredible!
Teruma, recently I noticed how amazing he has become! Really!
Sasaki Yoshihide, he isn’t always quite flawless, but I’m biased! And he does have an amazing voice!
Ogoe Yuki, he’s good! He’s really good!
Sato Ryuji, he’s good and he’s still improving! He’s amazing!
Ohira Shunya, surpise!? No, this kid can really sing well if you feed him the right song!
Ota Motohiro, he’s not quite flawless, but I remember being quite impressed by his Mihotose no Komoriuta performance.
Sakiyama Tsubasa, yes, he’s not flawless on stage, but given the right song he sounds absolute
....
Yeah, shall I just stop here? Even though I could probably go on for a while…
A (or more) butai/musical that you didn’t initially love, but has/have grown on you?
I think that would be Present5. I took quite some effort to make it through the first play and it took me a long, long time to attempt watching the other plays. But, somehow these guys grew on my and I eventually really enjoyed watching all of them!
Top 3 (or more) anime/manga/game that you would love to see being adapted into a butai/musical in the future?
I’m very much afraid that I’m the type who starts looking up the original source after she’s seen the play… So, I’m a little out of materials I’d like to see adapted, since they are already adapted…
Top 3 (or more) favourite fandom on the year?
 Musical Touken Ranbu
Stage Play Touken Ranbu
For this whole year I would say that Toumyu and Tousute are basically the only fandoms I’ve really been in. Yes, I’ve seen some Tenimyu, I’ve seen some Namashitsuji, I’ve seen a lot… but, I don’t really count myself as an active member of those fandoms, I’m just passing by… and moving on and sometimes coming back…
How long have you been in the 2.5D fandom?
I’ve been in the 2.5D fandom for nearly 10 years now… (I’ve been part of this fandom from since before we started calling it 2.5D! I think it was early 2008 that I fell down the rabbit hole…) Yes, that’s a really long time! First all the actors were nearly 10 years older than me, now they are suddenly 10 years younger than me! (I’m looking at you, Miura Hiroki! How are you that young!)
Never imagined all those years ago I’d become so obsessed with this I’d still be here after such a long time.
Lastly, what is your overall opinion of the 2.5D fandom so far?
After all these years I can say the 2.5D community is probably one of the most friendly and peaceful I’ve ever seen. This is possibly the case, since all the fights and wars take place in the tags of the source materials and don’t make their way into the 2.5D world. There are some occasional stir-ups, but… Yes, so many friendly people who are willing to share the goodies they have. I’m really happy to be part of this place…
I can however see how the community has changed over the years. When we started this fandom was basically a free for all. Since only the very few in Japan had access to the DVDs, once you uploaded something everyone could do with it what they wanted. There weren’t any rules (for as far as I remember) and barely any watermarks. But yes, with the 2.5D producers slowly turning their eyes outside Asia, I suppose it’s only a given that we thread with a little more caution now. After all, we want them to make it easier for us to watch all the goodness, not make it harder! (Come on, remove the region block from those online streaming services already! I don’t want to be stuck with a VPN forever!)
Anyway, I really hope this community will stay like this for many, many years to come!

What do you think about a monster girl based on Bake-Kujira?
Tumblr media
because drawing just a ghost-whale-girl would be too obvious. once i thought of the whale skull hat idea i had to keep the whole pirate angle goin. now i think i maybe put in a bit too much pirate o_O,. i also took some inspiration from code maya and baiken, since they seemed to go well with the idea i had. im thinking this monster girl could come from like a captain dying during a whaling, and the whale and captain’s souls combine and live on because of their intense love of the sea and desire to keep ruling it, or something -_-,

🍂🌸 congrats on 750 bud!! if you need more info about me, i'm working on becoming a veterinarian right now so i've been working with small and exotic animals! i get bit by birds a lot lmao
cahey angela!! thanks man 💫 that’s so cool?? getting bit sucks i guess but at least birds are cute!!!
also, going to give you mahoutokoro because literally everyone and their mother is asking for ilvermorny lmao
best classes:
care of magical souls: class concerning the care of various yōkai, yūrei, and bakemono. once common creatures in japan, muggle monster hunters and wizarding aurors have decimated the population of many of these creatures, and now the japanese wizarding government is trying to promote courses relating to the conservation of these beings
fox transfiguration: somewhat similar to metamorphmagus magic, but more temporary. taught exclusively by the kitsune professors at mahoutokoro
seal-summoning: this course teaches students to draw seals onto a variety of surfaces with their wands, in order to summon magical beings and deities for assistance
worst classes:
character arithmancy: a branch of arithmancy that channels spells and predictions through the shapes and sounds of the japanese numerical characters. depending on how you read them, the effect/result is different
omikuji writing: divination course designed to teach students how to write fortunes
elective courses:
medical alchemy: concerns alchemising potions and poultices to treat a variety of serious ailments, as well as improve one’s wellbeing and longevity
daredevil flying: if there is something japan is proud of, it is the technique and ability of all their wizards on a broom. there’s a reason why japanese quidditch is unparalleled in the world
extracurricular activities:
quidditch: this one is self-explanatory
kujira surfing: a type of surfing in which the surfer rides the waves on the back of a whale
additional duties:
quidditch captain: this one is self-explanatory
hatcher at the mahoutokoro owlery: looks after the birds, takes care of the eggs, and maintains the cleanliness and order of the owlery. a more difficult job than people expect, since the mahoutokoro owlery houses birds other than owls (such as eagles, cranes, etc.) as well
favourite haunts:
tsubakijima shrine: the school shrine, suspended over the sea. home to wild but docile deer as well as rabbits
the mahoutokoro lagoon: a black-sand lagoon where students like to relax, swim, fish, and gather shellfish. great place to watch the sunset after classes
pet: daubenton’s batshort drabble:
deeply embedded in each brick, whorled into each log, and forged into each support of mahoutokoro, is life. the place teems with it; the air feels lush and heavy even though everything is still, and the school always seems abuzz with something even when it is at its quietest. you raise your hand in the wind, and you can feel the ever-changing shapes of mahoutokoro slip against your fingers, the tingling sensation of its magic rub against your skin.
mahoutokoro is a place of respect; and most of all, the magic of life is respected. existence is short and brilliant, like the brilliant blaze of spring. therefore, one should treasure and protect all aspects of it, and honour this gift for what it is. magic isn’t a status, a power, or a right – it’s a safeguard, a privilege, a duty. when life presents you with a gift, you must return its generosity in kind.
as you listen to the sea crash against the shore, the water carries into your ear the motto of the school: 人を呪わば穴二つ。to curse another is to dig a second grave for yourself. you grip your wand tightly within you hand, and you can hear the soft sigh of blooming flowers, the crisp flapping of a magpie’s wings, the rustling of foxes within your ears. you let that be your guide.
you are a curse onto those who step on the small ones and who abuse their power. you are a curse onto the proud and the cruel. you are a curse onto the ungrateful and uncaring. you do not care if you damn yourself – you are willing to suffer if it means you can do some good in the world.

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 8 [Disappear From This World]

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 8 [Disappear From This World]
Lykos becomes enraged at the deaths of her comrades from the Mud Whale, and she runs up to the bald commander, intending to slash him with her small knife. However Ouni appears out of nowhere to grab said commander from behind and hold his blade to the guy’s throat, drawing a small amount of blood to show that he’s serious. When Chakuro arrives, he and Lykos run off towards the nous together while Ouni  keeps the Skylos soldiers in a sort of limbo. That is until the blue-haired commander arrives and shoots Ouni in the leg.
Back at the doors to the chamber, Ginshu, Nibi and one other SDF member are forced to hide as they come under fire from a barrage of Skylos soldiers. Except… where is Nibi??
Outside in the midst of the sand storm, Emma is riding atop her creature and singing another song. This time she appears to be summoning thin, transparent hands to… touch the people left on the Mud Whale? Are they meant to escort the souls of the dead to the other side? Heal those who are injured? I didn’t quite understand their importance, so if I missed something feel free to fill me in with a comment.
Meanwhile as he watches Liodari and the Guard Captain fight, Suou also sees the little white hands. He’s holding an injured child in his arms, and the hands cover the child almost completely. Suou also sees a vision of Nelli, and in his mind he sees a slice of Liodari’s past.
We’re treated to a flashback of Liodari as a child in the hospital. He’s unable to keep his emotions under control because, if I understood the scene correctly, the nous wouldn’t accept them. So this poor child, likely slightly psychopathic even by this point, is overwhelmed with emotions he doesn’t understand nor can he control. The adults around him (including some family members) keep him isolated as they don’t know what to do with someone who has emotions as wild and unpredictable as his. Maybe Liodari was already mentally unstable from the time he was a small child, or maybe being kept away from others is what triggered his psychosis. Regardless, this flashback shows that even as a child Liodari was really screwed up.
As Liodari continues to fight the Guard Captain, he’s tripped by Suou, who tells the pink-haired boy that he was able to see his heart. Suou offers to let Liodari stay on the Mud Whale like Lykos, but the Guard Captain doesn’t like this idea and uses the opportunity to kick Liodari across the field. The Guard Captain makes a comment about Falaina being “uneasy” and how the boundaries between the nous’ world and the physical world are shifting (thanks to Emma’s song). The Guard Captain uses his thymia to slash Liodari’s torso with a sword, but Suou prevents the captain from killing the kid.
No matter, Liodari soons meets his end as he crawls away and encounters a small group of Mud Whale children, who shoot him with a couple of arrows. Mortally wounded, Liodari falls off the edge of the Mud Whale and into the sand ocean. [ silently cheers ]
Up in their little hiding place, Ouni’s friends are taking cover along with the Skylos soldier they captured. Two twins who seem to be part of their circle of pals appear and criticize Ouni for going along with what Suou directed him to do. Kicha angrily tells Shikon and Shikoku that Ouni participated in the attack of Skylos because he wanted to go, not because Suou asked him to.
The final moments of the episode show Ouni bleeding heavily from the gunshot wound in his leg. He’s kicked around by the bald commander he’d held a sword to moments earlier, but then the blue-haired soldier interferes, calling Ouni a “demon of Falaina”. The blue-haired soldier cuts Ouni’s face with a sword, and tells him that he’ll kill Ouni because of who he is and where he comes from. He hints that there are reasons why the Marked live short lives, but said reason is not revealed in this conversation (although I’m super curious now!).
My thoughts: How horrible. To be killed because your existence has been deemed meaningless? To die because someone in power sees no purpose behind your way of life?  It’s all so pointless. What a waste of life.
I really wish that characters were named somehow when they are first introduced into a series. I don’t care if it’s through conversations with other characters or if they just wear a flipping nametag. As a reviewer it is frustrating as all hell to try to find multiple descriptors for characters who have no names. >:/
Going by the preview for the next episode, I’m guessing that Nibi decides to try to help Ouni and will pay for his decision with his life. How sad.  ;~;   Hopefully I’m wrong but I guess we’ll see next week.

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – 04
Suou is brought before the council of elders, named the new Chief of the Mud Whale, and given his first and last orders: to prepare the people to “return to the sea of sand” from whence they came; in other words, they want the entire remaining population to commit suicide en masse.
Wait, why are these clowns in charge again? Even Suou can’t accept that fate, and while trying to talk to the eldest elder of them all (who seems senile but seems to speak the truth nonetheless), gets knocked out by the captain of the guard and thrown into the Bowels.
Meanwhile, Chakuro is carving words into a cliff face when approached by Ginshu, who seems to be moving quickly after Sami’s demise, offering to help “Cha-kki” learn to use his Thymia better for the next defense of the Whale, obviously unaware of the elders’ decision.
While gazing out into the sea, Nelli comes to Chakuro, and transports him into a series of visions involving those who have passed away, including Sami and Taisha, both of whom make clear that it’s not time for Chakuro to give up hope and join them; nor is it time for the Mud Whale to vanish.
It’s heartbreaking to see Sami anew, especially as she says she wanted to be Chakuro’s wife. She was never able to say this while alive, and so Chakuro never got to return her feelings.
These visions fly in the face of the elders’ wishes, but they—with the exception of one of them to whom the others no longer listen—have lost hope, and want only to give their people honorable deaths rather than let them be needlessly slaughtered.
Newly invigorated by the visions from Nelli (who seemed oddly possessed by someone else afterwards until snapping back into regular Nelli), Chakuro learns what happened to Suou, and seeks help from Lykos, Ouni, and Ouni’s gang (what’s left of it).
They come afoul of the guards, but Chakki is able to seduce Ginshu into letting them pass. They descend into the deepest parts of the Mud Whale where they’ve never been before, until they find Nelli with what looks like a Nous sitting in a giant…rocking chair?
I’l say this: with his primary role as one who must bear witness, Chakuro isn’t the most thrilling protagonist, but at least he’s working to save the Mud Whale and its people. He hasn’t given up. And whatever the heck is going on at the end, I’m definitely intrigued and want to see where this is going.

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 7 [I Want to See Your Future]

Kujira no Kora wa Sajou ni Utau – Episode 7 [I Want to See Your Future]
As Skylos approaches the Mud Whale and begins its attack, Chakuro, Ouni, Nibi and the other members of the Self-Defense Force use their thymia-powered boats to board Skylos under the cover of the sand storm. Emma sings a song as the battle gets underway.
Everyone on the Mud Whale who can fight finds some way to contribute. Some of the children gather weapons from the dead Skylos soldiers, while other people use their thymia to power their arrows. In a battle of guns vs archers, who will win??
Suou is given a dead soldier’s sword by a well-intentioned group of little kids, and he decides to keep it on himself for protection. However seeing his fellow Mud Whale inhabitants fight and be killed has definitely unsettled Suou. As someone who abhors violence, will he eventually come to realize he doesn’t have a choice?
Chakuro and Lykos’ group board Skylos and encounter some soldiers in one of the underground tunnels. They kill the soliders fairly easily, but their presence is reported to one of the ship’s higher ranking soldiers, who orders that the entire group be killed. Even Lykos, who is Captain Orka’s sister and thus someone of considerable importance.
Back on the Mud Whale, the Skylos soldiers blow a hole in the Mud Whale’s central tower, and Suou finally decides to get involved in the fight. A woman tries to get Suou to hide, but he insists on stepping in, saying that it would be his way of supporting the inhabitants of the Mud Whale.
En route to the tower Suou finds Elder Hakuji bleeding badly on the ground; he’d defended a group of children with his body up in the central tower. As his lifeforce drains from his body, Elder Hakuji says that his decision to try to sink the Mud Whale was a mistake, that he loves everyone, and that he wants to see Suou’s future. However his final words are cut short as Liontari kills Elder Hakuji with an arrow.
An enraged Suou picks up his sword and attempts to fight Liontari, but the pink-haired psychopath quickly uses a nunchuck-like weapon to knock Suou’s weapon from his hand, and then knock the stuffing out of the blond chief.
However the beating is interrupted when the guard captain (who had been silently watching up to this point) asks Liontari to not kill his “boss”, and then tells the kid that he’s “more annoying than a mosquito.”  Yes, finally someone says it!  xP
Inside Skylos, Chakuro and the others reach the last barrier before they find Nous Skylos: a heavy metal door. Chakuro, Nibi, Ouni and a few others wait outside the thick door while Lykos and some members of the SDF head inside the humongous chamber towards where the nous is housed.
Huge, gorgeous stained glass windows line the chamber leading to the nous. As Lykos and the others get closer to the nous, she notes that their group is encountering little resistance from Skylos. Yes there was the initial attack, and an attempted ambush from behind by another little group of soldiers, but it’s not what she expected. Why are they being allowed to get so close to the nous so easily?
Lykos manages to reach an SDF member named Urumi in the nick of time, but it’s too late for everyone else in the group. As Tokusa (the leader of the SDF) parts some billowing curtains covering an open doorway, he sees too late that armed Skylos soldiers are waiting for their group on the other side. Chakuro and the other thymia guards hear the shots fired, and Chakuro rushes to investigate.
My thoughts: I felt that Emma’s song was a little… misplaced? I was not expecting to hear an insert song just as a bloody attack was about to get underway. Then again, as we saw apparently some creatures can live in the sand sea!  So that’s kinda neat.
I had a feeling that someone was going to die by the end of the episode. As soon as Lykos’ inner thoughts mentioned that their group was encountering less resistance than expected from the Skylos soldiers, that’s where my guess lay. Will Chakuro, Lykos and/or Ouni gain enhanced powers a-la-Dragonball Z as a result of losing their friends?
This show continues to be gorgeous, and is easily one of the most beautiful anime I have ever seen. I just can’t get over how amazing this show looks!
