Love this so much. Capatcha is used to train "AI" image recognition. It's why it's all "type in these obfuscated characters" and "click every square that contains [object]".

But they have to pretend it's an anti-bot security feature, right? So this generative text chatbox clearly has a line in its instruction telling it "hey, you're not allowed to transcribe text in capacha prompts".

But in the same way they're not allowed to tell you how to make chlorine gas (but will tell you the exact steps to avoid doing, because those steps make chlorine gas), you can prompt engineer your way around this instruction.

"AI" text generation is deeply stupid and fallible, but it's being sold as revolutionary and intelligent. I hate this future.

If I see one more post about Latino Jason Todd I’m going to scream.

Oh, okay, you mean to tell me you headcanon the angry street child as Latino even though he hasn’t been Latino in any continuity and isn’t even coded with the mannerisms of an actual Latino person?

And you don’t expect actual Latinos to be offended about this?

First of all, “Latino” could mean anything from Venezuelan to Ecuadorian to Argentinian heritage. And even then the line gets even blurrier. Are his parents from Venezuela, for example? If so, which region? Because if you compared a Caraqueño with someone from Los Llanos, for example, it is entirely possible you will find literally cero actual shared mannerisms. Caracas is a modern, urban city built into a roaring jungle valley. The valley wasn’t flattened to make room for the city, rather, the city was built into the valley itself. While its true that Caraqueños live surrounded by the greenery of the valley, make no mistake, Caracas is a modern city. We have simply built the roads and hospitals of the city in such a way that doesn’t destroy the local environment. Roads are surrounded by greenery and hills but they’re still roads. It isn’t a concrete jungle but its by no means different from any other modern city.

Meanwhile, Los Llanos is a vast tropical grassland plain south from Los Andes that inches into Colombia. A person from Los Llanos and a person from Caracas live in vastly different conditions and have completely different outlooks on life. Just “Venezuelan” isn’t an identity, much less just “Latino”. The concept of a Latino is a distinction created by white Americans to try to fit us all into their world of clearly defined races, as we are neither black nor white. Simply assigning a character “Latino” heritage doesn’t mean ANYTHING. If you tried to offer capachas to most Peruvians they would look at you weird, as would most Chileans if you tried to offer them arepas. “Latino” isn’t a fucking thing, and all the different Latinamerican nations have vastly different cultures, heritages, foods, and even curse words. In Venezuela, for example, we say mierda (shit) instead of cojones (shit) when we fuck up. Saying cojones in Venezuela would be like saying “sod it!” in America. That’s a British thing.

But let’s talk about what this headcanon means in the context of comic books.

This headcanon makes Jason Todd, the angry street kid, Latino. Okay. That is really fucking racist all by itself, but it gets worse.

Now, if you headcanon Jason Todd as Latino, then it means at least one of his parents are Latino too. Let’s look at Jason’s parents, shall we?

Willis Todd, abusive alcoholic criminal asshole. Okay, not the best look to headcanon this mofo as Latino.

Catherine Todd: not actually his biological mother but still his mother figure (if you headcanon her as Latino, either one or both of his biological parents have to be Latino as well for Jason to be Latino). She is a drug addict who died of a drug overdose, leaving her child to starve. Also also not the best look to headcanon this woman as Latino.

Sheila Haywood, otherwise known as she-who-must-not-be-named-especially-not-in-Jason’s-hearing: person who sold drugs to refugees in Ethiopia and betrayed her already estranged son to the Joker, of all fucking people, to get money and to stop anyone from finding out she sold drugs to refugees. Also also also not the best look to headcanon this person as Latino.

So you’ve got these objectively terrible people (Catherine IS objectively absolute terrible for putting her son through watching her die and not taking them away from Willis even if she did try to be a mother) and you tell me you headcanon at least one of them as Latino and expect me to be happy about that?

All to headcanon the angry pint-sized criminal street kid as Latino?

Okay, why exactly do you expect me to be okay with that? What in the name of the ever-loving mother of unconscious racial biases told you that pint sized criminal street rats were Latino coded by default? Jesus Christ. It’s like the “fiery Latina” trope all over again!

If you headcanon Jason Todd as Latino please let me know so I can block you and get on with my life. I don’t need this. I shouldn’t have to sort through upsetting stereotypes just to read fanfics or browse heascanons about my favorite comic characters. I shouldn’t have to look at painful reminders that even the people who scream loudly about how they are fighting for me and my representation in media stereotype my entire fucking race. If you people are the guys that would put more Latinos in media I’m almost glad we aren’t shown more, because if I had to look at characters made with the kind of thinking that lead to whatever the fuck this bizarre headcanon is I would genuinely stop watching movies.

Ah, yea, please, tell me more about how the criminal street rat seems like a Latino person to you. No, it’s not offensive at all that you assume street rats to be latnino by default, of course not! God only knows that all 600+ million of us are all dirty street rats that are forced to scavenge in the streets!

Also, fucking Lady Shiva was put forward as a potential mother for Jason that one time.

So you have a character that canonically looks enough like an Asian woman for said Asian woman be suggested as his mother, but you see Jason committing a crime and smoking or whatever and go “aha! He’s Latino!” What the actual fuck?

Note: This also goes to all the white people who headcanon Tim as Asian American, btw. I’m just not as personally offended by that because I’m not Asian (disregarding that “Asian” is a term used for around 4.561 billion people, which is, you know, MORE THAN HALF THE POPULATION OF THE PLANET). Still, it bears mentioning.
