currently listening to Twice Around the Sun by Ugly (UK). wtf are they feeding the youngsters over there in england? these last couple years have felt like a full on canterbury scene revival (but, you know, around london). you got your pioneers with black midi and BCNR, and squid obviously, then HMLTD slightly stepping into avant-gardeness with each release, and now you've got bands like english teacher, ugly, caroline (which are massively underrated btw) and so on. nature is healing.

Last night I revisited John Greaves and Peter Blegvad’s magnificent 1977 album, Kew Rhone, for the first time in years. It’s still as beguiling as ever.
For me the highlight is the title track. The lyrics in the first half are comprised of words using only the letters of KEW RHONE (“when we knew no woe, when we were her hero” etc), while the second half is based around a long palindrome: “Peel’s foe, not a set animal, laminates a tone of sleep.”
Of course, I wouldn’t care much about all that if the music wasn’t also totally gorgeous.
