More headcanons for Camio and Furfur (Stella's friends)

Been a while since I talked about these two, but it's time to get back into it!

For anyone missing the context, you can find it here

Due to her fascination with humans, Camio goes out of her way to exclusively hire sinners as her house staff and bodyguards. It's more costly than hellborns, but she finds it personally enriching and worthwhile.

Furfur can teleport/manifest as a lightning bolt from any cloud they choose.

After Mammon and Stella's wedding, the group's trips to the human world become more like family vacations, with Mam and Via tagging along.

Between Stella, Furfur and Camio, Camio is the oldest.

With the hubbub about the hotel, Furfur is ordered to expand and extend his surveillance of Heaven's direct activities on Earth.

While we're at it, she gets the unenviable task of sorting out the C.H.E.R.U.B situation.

And that's it for now!

It'll be a little while before we get back to the GoldenGooseVerse proper, so I hope these rations satisfy you in the mean time.

But I have yet to see anyone mourn Pagliacci’s in Town as it should be mourned. That fuckin song haunts me daily. ‘the old guard’ is the name of a lil queer opera company tho.

They do Shakespeare in the park-type stuff. Nicky is a basso profondo & baritone Yusuf is marked down as annoyed and horny. The Plot is that Andy is a dramatic contralto & she takes the male/butch leads in drag, opposite quynh’s soprano (iirc contralto is the deepest register for women on a scale similar to the male tenor. whom also iirc usually get leading-man roles. Anyway it’s SUPER fascinating 2 me 2 swap them.) When quynh leaves, booker, a high tenor, does her bits in drag. There’s not as much vocal contrast between Booker and Andy tho, so after some faffing he goes back to his usual, supporting female roles, & enter Nile as prima donna soprano. Coolgirl career prima donna at Big Opera Houses, joining the guard to do queer shit. I think she’s a coloratura/whereas quynh was more of a Wagnerian soprano, & she fills the void quynh left with her own, brighter vocal style (themes & metaphors etc)

It’s Fine Press Friday!

This edition of Suzanne McNear’s Excerpts from a Wisconsin Childhood, was hand-set, printed, and bound by Ruth Raich and Gaylord Schanilec during the winter of 1996 to 1997, in Stockholm, Wisconsin for Midnight Paper Sales. This limited edition of 120, signed by both Schanilec and McNear, contains wood engravings by Schanilec and marbled coversheets by Angela Liguori.

Suzanne McNear is a journalist, editor, novelist, and playwright, and has worked for The New York Times, Playboy, Redbook, and Vogue. After this limited edition, Excerpts from a Wisconsin Childhood was published in her first short story collection, Drought (2004, Canio’s Editions). She lives in Sag Harbor, New York. Although she considers much of her recent work fiction, it is often labeled “fictional memoir.”

This book was built by artists working along the Mississippi in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Schanilec (b. 1955) established his imprint, Midnight Paper Sales, in 1981. In a 2021 article in Book History, Schanilec’s work is described as exploring what he sees in the natural world through text and image: “insects, birds, trees, the flora and fauna of the Mississippi River’s Lake Pepin���urban flowers.”

Angela Liguori taught herself marbling as a child in Rome. She studied Renaissance art history and learned bookbinding as an apprentice in Bologna. In 1994 she moved to Minneapolis to pursue book arts, and worked at Lunalux, Cave Paper, and The Minnesota Center for Book Arts. She now owns and manages Studio Carta in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
