Alright so I pretty much said all of this verbatim on a reblog of someone else's post, but I wanted to put it here on my blog too.
As I've mentioned before, I would *very* much like to see Peri canonically having a disability that causes him to use his wand/cane and not just have it be an accessory, and so I analyzed the episodes he's in that I've been able to see so far and came up with a few observations:
As much as I'd be unopposed to seeing it portrayed, leg issues don't really seem like a major deal to fairies in general given as Cosmo misplaced his for most of an episode and a pair of sticks were a good enough replacement for him to have fun at the arcade in human form (without even drawing human attention)
And Peri can apparently use his powers as listed above without his cane since he doesn't always immediately have it on his person (especially since Dev & Hazel took his cane in Lost in Fairy World and he didn't have any power or mobility problems)
But!
I *could* easily see him having some kind of magical fatigue issue or magical equivalent of hypotonia or balance disorder, since he's shown to be
very tired after a morning spent magically creating cupcakes (a probably small but very repetitive task that leaves him running low on energy)
When his stationary float is disrupted he remains seated instead of floating back up again
3. A minor contact/startle reflex is enough to disrupt his hover and cause him to immediately fall pretty hard if not very far
4. speaking of distance, he is shown to sometimes float a bit lower than his parents, which, while not consistent and likely just an animation choice, could tie in with the other points to support the diagnosis theory
However, pain may admittedly be more of a factor than the above images suggest,
he may not just be tired from shape shifting like I'd thought since right before that he was walking (albeit in horse form) and afterwards (low) cloud float is apparently easier and faster for him than just quickly trotting past his parents
He also didn't really seem to be having too much of a problem at all before he hit the ground
Where it goes to a definitely tired and possibly more pained look.
Maybe he didn't want to tell Dev that it was painful either out of pride or because he didn't want to potentially upset him and just went with "tired" because that was what he assumed. It'd be interesting to see if it happens again in a different form.
Personally I think it'd be cool to see both and have it be a chronic condition (directly magical or otherwise) that he already had before the series began (diagnosed or not).
If he's the first fairy kid born in a long time he probably would have been monitored very closely, but it may have taken a while for doctors to notice a problem since there was little reference for comparison and may have even caused some potentially serious problems that gave Comso & Wanda a bad scare, which could tie in pretty well with their developing a high amount of over protectiveness of him, and that in turn leading him to try and behave too far in the other direction (not seeking help when he really does need it, pushing himself way too hard and suffering the fallout which he then tries to hide, ect)
If he's undiagnosed but having the problems it could be interesting to see sort of an inversion of the "character must learn to accept their disability" storyline wherein he's more connecting certain events & symptoms and we get to see him adapting to accommodations and letting himself try different approaches moreso than to having new symptoms (though we as the audience may see these symptoms more or behaviors contextualized as symptoms where they weren't necessarily before).
Idk either way I just think it would be cool (and I've probably put away more analysis into this than will ever pay off lol)
also to everyone who draws him as a disabled mobility device user: ILY please draw more of it it feeds my soul

Me, cooking my theories ⬇️
But fr you could be right about walking vs floating, I really like that and you made me realize something:
Pain could be a lot more of a factor than I realized! he may not just be tired from shape shifting like I'd thought since right before that he was walking (albeit in horse form) and afterwards (low) cloud float is apparently easier and faster for him than just quickly trotting past his parents
He also didn't really seem to be having too much of a problem at all before he hit the ground

Maybe he didn't want to tell Dev that it was painful either out of pride or because he didn't want to potentially upset him and just went with "tired" because that was what he assumed. It'd be interesting to see if it happens again in a different form (such as a human disguise like you said)
i really hope they make Peri canonically disabled and that's why he has a cane these days, as a cane user myself that'd be so neat... they don't even have to like. extravagantly point it out. they could just show him using it in a human form, bonus points if he's hesitant on turning into it! maybe it gets mentioned in passing somehow! that would be neat i think

I love that you draw Peri using a walking cane! I've got my theories, but what kind of disability to you hc him as having? 👀
shout out to this post for analyzing peri for potential symptoms! i think it’s very likely that he’s got some sort of magical fatigue (possibly related to how powerful he was in the original series) and/or* chronic pain that gets worse when he’s walking or standing
(*leaning more towards the “and”)
#i sincerely hope that peri being disabled is canon tbh#i rarely see younger cane users (no less younger characters with disabilities such as chronic pain) in media#so it’d be really nice if anw had one as a major character#we have winn (openly nb 10 year old) so the creators definitely aren’t afraid to show less-represented groups

Free Use Peri Design
Something I love to do is think deeply about characters! I don't plan on using this design or drawing Peri much, so you're free to yonk it and do whatever you want with it
*side note: His suspenders work to hold his pants up so he doesn't step on the hem of his slacks :3
You're free to ask me questions on his design but please note that I am not a cane user.
Text Description under cut
A Way To Make Cane Use More Visible As A Fairy (box). Image description: A picture of Peri in his fairy form is shown leaning his right hand on his cane while his other hand gestures outward. Notes: -Lean all of Peri's weight towards cane - *Wings down* show he's relying on cane clearer - (left) leg at rest - this (right) leg should be ready to move - round (end) works better for a flying creature's grip - cane is at lowest point to show weight (End of notes)
Fairly Bad Days (box). Image description: Peri is resting his head on the ball of the cane with his hands under his chin. He is curled up tightly with wings down and his crown dim and deflated as he looks. Notes: - curl him up tight with all weight on cane to visibly show he's tired - Dim the crown + limp to show fatigue (end of notes) Image description: An arrow points to a new pose where Peri lifts his wand high over his head and flared out his wings in a pained expression. Notes 2: - granting wishes while fatigue(d) should be painful! He's out of spoons but must grant wishes! Or he dies - Over extend cane + wings to show he's pushing himself. (End of notes 2) Image description: A new pose is placed under the strained poses. Peri collapses face first into the ground and loses his dimmed crown as well as his wand which is rolling away. Notes 3: - Him fainting from over extension should happen - provides a good opportunity to talk about disability and doing what you are able to do (end of notes 3)
Human Notes (box). Image description: Peri, as a human, poses with right hand on his tripod cane, and his left gestured outwards. His right leg stays stiff, parallel to his cane, and his left leg is relaxed. Differences in this form include a split collar, a sweater over his shirt, rolled sleeves, a medical bracelet on his left hand, his right holds a customized cane with stickers, and leather mule shoes with socks. Notes: - Fairies are very clumsy at the whole walking thing. He's cane should have a tripod base to help with stability - bend arm (using cane) - stickers :3 He's a fun godparent after all! - (having a mobility device) also allows him to keep his wand out - (left leg) can be bent or at rest - mule shoes to match parents (sandals in human form) (end Notes)
Medical Bracelet (box). Image description: Still the same image describe in number prior. The medical band is secured by a little star button. Notes: - (it) reads "I wish this person was at his parents house and I don't remember this wish." For emergencies (end notes)
Nope (box). Image description: A small doodle of Peri lifts his cane angrily, which shows the tripods sharp star base. Notes: - Peri doesn't like help, he can AND should push people away with his cane (end notes)
No Title. Image description: Peri poofs into existence on his parents couch in fairy world. He is half hazardly strewn across the couch, groaning face down against the arm of the chair. One of his shoes falls off and his wand rolls away. Wanda is in the corner of the picture, in fairy form, and happily asks her son "Peri! Want some tea, sprout?". Notes: - His parents have a human-sized couch just for him
Mobile is hard to type on!!

The way you draw Peri reminds me a lot of Myrvin in some ways. Im not sure how, but maybe you can play with the idea of it.
WELL-
-Snazzy getup, purple hair, cane user, too charismatic for his own good, stars, magical, pointy ears, AND ACE?!?! (Headcannon vs oc cannon)
Maybe Peri was created for me specifically/j

What are u listening to w canon cane users bc sign me tf up??
the far meridian and archive 81!!!! lil bit of a spoiler for each but: in the far meridian peri (the main character!) gets injured and has to use a cane, the soundscaping accommodates for it and other characters acknowledge it! in the third season of archive 81, nicholas (main character!) gets injured and uses a cane- i never noticed any specific soundscaping, but there aren't any scenes that have a lot of walking in them

Ngl poof floated lower than his parents as a baby in the original seried too
Interesting! Like I said it could easily be nothing more than an animation choice, but it would be interesting if it ends up being significant!

Hero Forge Peri (FOP)
I'm not totally happy with the way his face came out, and if they end up doing hair closer to his he'll get this style replaced, but I'm pretty happy with the threads, wings, and his cane! (and the perfect lemon cupcake!)

I'm trying to make Peri in Hero Forge but my autism face looking skills are kicking my ASS.
