The way you draw Peri reminds me a lot of Myrvin in some ways. Im not sure how, but maybe you can play with the idea of it.

This drawing is more so of a visual idea for an aspect of Myrvins magic. Super Nova! It’s basically the evocation of his magic allowing him to create fires with the same explosive power of a star. This magic is harder to control and will always spill out his most vulnerable part of his being: his impaired eye.

Myrvin keeps an eye patch with him when he needs to do a lot of reading. It helps with eye strain and headaches. It’s based on my own experiences with having severe vision impairment in 1 eye!!

Original Character story Starry Obsidian: lore, characters, and ramblings

Lore drop! Lore drop! Lore drop! A post on some of the lore and world building of Starry Obsidian!! I started working on this back in November of last year and I’m so proud I actually got around to finishing this instead of it going into WIP void!!!!!! And I’m so happy with this! This isn’t everything such as the other professors of the Scholar of Stars and how Charlotte another member of the main party fits into all of this. Maybe I’ll get around to that later. Text below the cut!

Starry Obsidian:

Starry Obsidian is a story about finding yourself. In our main character, Myrvin McGrove's case that's meant literally. The greediness of the Scholars of Stars tears apart Myrvins magic, corrupting the professors and creating pockets of void consuming local towns. It's up to Myrvin and his friends to get his magic back and save the land from a consuming void.

Myrvin is a Star Mage, the last

descendent of an ancient bond between a mortal and the Fae of Stars. In this world only those with a direct connection with the Magic Realm has access to magic. In Myrvins case it's from being half fae and half human.

The Guild of Equinox. Originally founded shortly after day of Void. They're a group of various tradesmen all about teaching people various skills and protecting people from the ever growing Void. They don't believe the Scholar of Stars when they said that a child caused the Voids. But this star mage child is the only lead they have to stopping the void.

While the Scholars are trying to find the star mage to harm Myrvin the Guild wants to find the star mage to protect them from the scholars.

Jax Richard is a swordsman of the main party as well as a member of the Guild of Equinox.

Hes the first one to join Myrvin and acts as the audiences introduction to the Guild.

Scholars of Stars. An institute of scholars who was originally found by an ancient Star Mage to study the cosmos and allow easy access to education. Unfortunately is now run by a greedy headmistress.

This faction controls education and who receives said education: the rich and privileged. This has allowed them to convince the public that the Star Mage (Myrvin) was the one at fault for the voids that's consumed the land. When in reality is was due to their own delving into forces they have no ability to control. This inability to control has stripped Myrvin a majority of his magical abilities but left the headmistress and the other professors as corrupted omens. This faction is to question "what if a greedy academic institution strive for control?”

Originally from the magic realm the Eclipse Wolf has been roaming the mortal realm keeping track of the sun and moon cycle far longer then written human memory.

Has a human form that he used to disguise as a mythology professor at the Scholar of Stars to act as a father figure to the young Myrvin

About 8 years ago 3 of these mini black holes showed up that people started calling The Void. 2 attacked towns that were near by the Scholar of Stars and the last consumed The Forest. No one is certain what happens when you enter but there is this feeling of dread when you're near one. It's unsure what happened, they say that right after the day of the void the Scholars of Stars put a warrant on a 17 year old child stating they are the one at fault. Due to the Scholar of Stars influence almost everyone believes this. Except the Guild of Equinox. The guild finds the framing of a child to be highly suspicious and blames the Scholar of Stars for this disaster. And now both factions are on the look for this 'child' for their own reasons.

Myrvins star magic is separated into 3 types. Summoning via forming constellations to create weapons such as swords and bow n arrows

Evocation via supernova. Myrvin gets a surge of magic creating destruction in his wake.

Lastly transmutation magic via nebulas. Myrvin is able to change his form and items form.

Myrvins supernova magic gets its name for the uncontrolled explosive magic equivalent of a dying star. Due to the amount of power it needs to expel out not just from his hands but from his vulnerable impaired eye as well.

Myrvins transformation magic allows him to change into a fox that he's used in the past as a quick get away.

Lantern Constructs, this is my fun fantasy android people. Their origin is unknown but the most popular belief among the Lanterns is that they are of fae origin. Their design is intricate similar to that of Victorian lamp posts.

One of the characters part of the main party is a lantern construct. Lemy Blixt! Lemy is an older lantern lass who used to own a lemon farm but it recently gets consumed by The Void. She join Myrvin and Jax in their journey to get rid of the The Void so then she can get her farm back. She brings repeated when 'life gives you lemons' quotes and old tales from her prime.

Myrvin McGrove a star mage apprentice and next in line for fox protector of the local forest.

Jaxie Richard a knight in training who also works really hard to have a social life

Lemon “Lemy” Blixt a lemon orchard farmer who is very tired and is the life that gives you lemons

Charlotte Richard, a sneaky rogue of the land and also Jaxie’s sister!!! Family dinners are a bit tense

And now things I’ve changed for the design and whyyyyyy and how it fits in the storrryyyyyyyyyyyyy

First off! I had no desire to draw these characters for a while which told me that I needed to change some things to make them exciting to draw again.

Now originally this story was set in a modern world and the characters were placed into a fantasy world. I apparently don’t like modern settings for my stories so full on fantasy we go! I’m also a SUCKER for fantasy give me full control of the world to sandbox in

Because of this some designs were changed.

I changed Myrvins deer mask to fox because I feel like it’s a better insight into this guys character and there is a fox constellation! I also already have a deer character in my other story Opal Reapers and I didn’t want repeats

And due to my experiences with (hopefully temporary) vision loss I wanted to change a bit on how Myrvins vision loss worked. Such as having a short white ID cane that’s great to help with depth perception and having his mask cover 1 eye to make things easier for him. I did change his scar to be more star shape and his cape to look like that of a fox!

Now Jaxie, jaxie has been the one name from when these guys were septic ego OCs that kept the name so I also switched it and put an x in there. X marks the spot for Myrvins affection apparently and also probleeeemmmsss. He needs a break! 👏👏👏 went for more knight armor but kept some elements from his previous design such as ginger hair and his double lit candle tattoo. And the red hoodie that is his STAPLE

LEMY!!!!!! I love Lemy. So I never shared this character but they were suppose to be a guide for Myrvin in the original fantasy world. But now they don’t need that and I still wanted a reference to the original title dealing with orchard. But we already got our red character so yellow it was! Our sour lemon lantern orchard farmer. I designed her hat to look like a straw hat but still be part of her head design I am so happy with it. Also gives scarecrow vibes

AND CHARLOTTE!!!!!!!!! GOD SHES FINALLY BEEN GIVEN TRAITS DEAR STARS. So originally went from being Jaxies brother, to goth sister named Charlie, to now Charlotte problem was that I didn’t know what role she played in the story. She’s a lesbian mess with a knife I love her. She’s a rose both pretty and will slice ya. Big dramatic anime villain vibes for someone who is not a villain. Both Charlotte and Jaxie are trans because I think it’s funny to think that they were told to share as kids and shared everything including their gender and never asked for it back.

The story is still gonna revolve around the Solar and lunar Eclipses drama and poor communication skills and take up Myrvin and Jaxie as there champions as celestial entities DO. Which I shall design….. eventually
