Sylus

You are taking a smoke break on your balcony after a very stressful mission. And Mephisto is doing his daily surveillance of you and your apartment building. When he gets enough footage of your new smoking habit, he reports back to Sylus.

After he’s informed, Sylus gives you a call “You know, smoking is a very unhealthy habit kitten.”

“How do you know that I smoke?”

“A little birdie told me.”

From then on, when you buy a carton of cigarettes they mysteriously go missing from your balcony, living room table and even from your purse?!?

Sylus arranges the periodic delivery of nicotine gum to your apartment for 2 months straight.

He also makes more of an effort to reach out to you. Both you and Sylus have busy schedules, but he always will make room in his schedule for you.

After a few months of these shenanigans you realize that you haven’t smoked in a while. Your craving for cigarettes has diminished to almost nothing. And even when you do feel that urge, you don’t hesitate to call Sylus. Because you know he will always be there for you.

Caleb

After the explosion where you assumed both Caleb and granny passed away you were emotionally in shambles. But you are a hunter now and it is your responsibility to protect the public from wanderers and wrong doers alike. In effort to suppress your emotions you picked up a bad habit, which happened to be smoking. It began with you trying out a cigarette one day, then it evolved into you going through one carton per week.

You don’t think you’ll ever get over losing Caleb and your grandma in one fell swoop. But when he makes his way back into your life you are shook to say the least. You really want to kick your smoking habit mainly because you don’t want Caleb to find out about it. But it has a hold on you now.

Since you’ve been spending time at Caleb’s Skyhaven apartment you tend to leave things behind. One time, you leave behind a lone cigarette which leads to Caleb discovering your new habit.

Caleb does not hesitate to confront you about it “Princess is this really a habit conducive to being a hunter? And…what if something happens to you? I don’t know what I’d do if you developed cancer from this.”

Once you two have a heart to heart about why you started smoking, Caleb starts to take advantage of the amount of leave afforded to him from the from the DAA. He is spending more quality time with you after work and on the weekends to make sure you don’t have to resort to smoking when you’re feeling down.

He purchases out an old gaming system so you two can play co-op games together like you did in your childhood. He cooks you whatever meal you request to keep you happy and well fed.

You start to spend more time at his Skyhaven apartment than your own. One day while you lounge in the living room and Caleb cooks in the kitchen, the sudden realization that you haven’t even thought about smoking in weeks pops into your mind. You don’t know how to thank Caleb for helping you break this habit. But what you do know is from today forward, you no longer need to fill the void in your heart with cigarettes because you have him.

Zayne

He majorly disapproves of your smoking habit. He goes straight into doctor mode and lectures you on the multiple risks that come with smoking including:

Slowed wound healing Cancer risk Increased risks of heart disease and stroke Osteoporosis COPD

He gives you tips on quitting like sucking on hard candy, chewing gum or eating fruit when you feel that urge. He frequently goes on walks with you to reduce your stress because you started smoking due to your heavy work schedule as a hunter.

He helps keep you accountable by checking the ash tray at your home for any evidence of smoking and offering to test you for smoking when you come in for annual doctor visits.

Although his approach may seem strict, your health and wellbeing means the world to him. You are the love of his life and he wants you to be healthy.

Xavier

Since he lives a floor above you he is on his balcony one evening and looks down to see you smoking a cigarette. Xavier is surprised because he’s never noticed this habit of yours.

To confirm that this wasn’t his tired mind playing tricks on him he decides to spy on you some more. Over the next 3 weeks Xavier makes it a habit to peak down towards your balcony. And so far he’s seen witnessed you smoking 3 times a week, at minimum.

He softly brings it up to you as you two laze around on your couch after a session of stuffing your faces together.

“So…when did you become a smoker?”

You feel a bit ashamed because you’ve been trying hard to break this habit. But you won’t lie to him.

“Honestly, I picked up the habit one day after a stressful mission. And I’ve been smoking ever since.”

Xavier tilts his head to the side as he listens to your explanation. “If I can help you relieve stress in a different way, will you give up cigarettes?”

You look towards Xavier in confusion. His beautiful cerulean eyes have darkened like they do when he is feeling lustful. Your breath hitches in your throat at what he’s suggesting.

“Hmm I’m not sure. Why don’t we try it out a few times to see if it helps,” you reply cheekily.

By the time Xavier is done with you, you are worn out and noticeably less stressed. This just may work, and if it doesn’t, you’re going to enjoy trying.

Rafayel

When Rafayel finds out that you smoke cigarettes he is surprised about it. But that surprise morphs into concerns for your health. He broaches the topic by saying “Ms. Bodyguard, how can I expect you to protect me if you start wheezing during cardio because you smoke cigarettes?”

When that teasing remark doesn’t seem to get through to you, he brings out the big guns. He begins to pout and gives you puppy dog eyes. “What would Reddie think?”

After you two talked about why you started smoking and what it does for you, Rafayel makes it his mission to pester you (with love) more than usual.

Xavier

After a few moments of silence, he accepts the reality of your diagnosis and begins making plans on how to make your life easier. Whatever you need, he'll do it, no questions asked.

For your sake, Xavier is as calm and steadfast as ever. He wants you to continue living life as normally as possible. He'll do subtle, thoughtful things just to remind you how important you are to him and that he’ll always love you, no matter what comes.

With Jenna and your team's full support, you and Xavier both take a leave of absence from duty so Xavier can take care of you during your treatment.

Tara takes the lead in organizing visits and dividing chores they can do so you can rest with nothing to worry about. She spends almost as much time with you as Xavier does and he’s immensely grateful so many support you both.

His first reaction is anger — not at you, but at this horrible situation.

No one deserves this and he's so frustrated he can't just make this go away with the money or influence he has. What is it all for if he can't take care of you?

But this isn't about him. Rafayel might not be the most natural caretaker but your bond is forever. He won't just abandon you now.

He can't sleep that night after you tell him so he works till dawn converting a spare room into your home away from home. Being near the sea can help improve your health, right? Well, maybe you should stay with him for while, then!

Rafayel, despite what he may think, is actually a pretty good nurse, fussing over you and making you feel special while keeping your spirits high. He is so attuned to you and your needs, it’s as easy as breathing.

Zayne

As your physician, he saw the signs early on but quickly passed your case on to someone more qualified than him. He couldn't allow his feelings to get in the way of getting you the best possible care.

Zayne is there at every meeting, every check up, every treatment. He didn't expect it to be so difficult from getting too involved but he knows he would be nothing but a hinderance to the team treating you.

So he puts his faith in the capable staff of Akso Hospital while he dedicates himself to your emotional and mental health. He only goes into the hospital a few times a week for his more urgent patients, otherwise, he’s at home with you.

Zayne becomes so considerate and gentle, you'll wonder how you ever thought he was cold. Through it all, he will be your rock.

You need him, now more than ever, and Zayne takes that more seriously than ever oath he’s ever made.

Sylus

Mephisto is never far away so when you’re walking home after getting the news, you’re not very surprised to see Sylus waiting in a dark alley by your apartment. He will pull you into his embrace without a word and hold you together as you fall apart.

Sylus wants to know how you want to proceed and then he wants you to give him permission to make it a reality. He’s always silently hoping you’ll use his resources but now he’s almost pleading.

He keeps some sense of normalcy by continuing to tease and antagonize you, though now more gently than before and only if it’ll get you to smile.

Sylus wishes you could stay with him in the N109 Zone but he knows it’s impossible. You could never get the proper treatment there and he can’t leave his domain for too long. But the twins and Mephisto can do everything he cannot and that brings him some solace.

In time, you and Mephisto become closer until he has a nest in your room and you wake up every morning to something new and shiny on your windowsill to cheer you up. Having even just an extension of Sylus with you until the man himself comes to visit you at night is more comforting than you ever imagined.

So I like to think that cigarettes exist in the Devildom, and that they have their own brands and everything. Smoking is also probably more common and less stigmatised/hated than it is in (many places of) the human world. Humans are actually the reason that demons learned about smoking in the first place, and Devildom cigarettes are functionally identical to human-world cigarettes (since demons have basically copied the production method 1:1 from humans)

Demons aren't negatively affected by tobacco, nicotine, and smoking in general like humans are. So it's a lot more socially acceptable - it's still not common, but without the horrible side effects like lung cancer, heart disease, etc, it's not seen or thought of as a "bad habit" like it is for many humans.

Lucifer smokes occasionally, mostly for stress relief when he's overworked. He'll usually only indulge when he's on his own, mostly whenever he needs to calm down and decompress. The only room in the HoL where he'll smoke is in his study. Even for something as small as a cigarette, he doesn't like to be seen "relying" on anything to help him, thanks to his Pride.

Mammon will sometimes smoke, and he mostly does it when he's out at the club or in the casino. He's a "social smoker" like someone might be a social drinker. He's unlikely to ever pick up a cigarette at home or at RAD, but if he's out in the city partying the night away or gambling with a bunch of the Devildom's high-rollers, then he's more likely to light one up. He's also been photographed with cigs for the odd magazine spread.

Satan used to smoke, and he used to be the heaviest smoker in the family. He has since "quit" however, and claims that he no longer indulges in the habit. This is because he mostly smoked when he was younger and still full of rage, struggling to handle his Wrath without losing control of himself. Smoking helped him calm down and reduced his anger, and he would smoke for similar reasons as Lucifer (stress relief)

Satan maintains that he's put this part of his life behind him, though, and that it's been a very long time since he needed a crutch like cigarettes to help him stay calm. This is mostly true, though when exam season rolls around at RAD (and when he's stressed out trying to tutor five of his brothers as well as study for his own finals) Satan will secretly smoke in his room.

Diavolo doesn't normally smoke, but he'll do so on the rare occasions he meets with the Devildom's House of Lords. Many of the sitting members of the House smoke cigars or pipes, and Diavolo is socially savvy enough to light up a smoke as well in order to make a good impression. He may also smoke with Lucifer, but only if the Avatar of Pride pulls out his cigarettes first.

Mephistopheles has tried, on many occasions, to smoke with Diavolo whenever the Prince has done so - but Mephisto just turns into a coughing, spluttering mess every time. He can't handle even the mildest of cigarettes, and since it embarrasses him that he always starts choking and wheezing, he usually pretends that he hates smoking and will shit talk the habit.

Mephisto somehow went from my most hated character to my 2nd favorite character after W. Maybe I’m just too fickle or emotional or not exposed to enough media with the same character archetype, but idk anymore man chapter 8 got me bawling my eyes out for this little shit.

(Its not like all the hate went poof tbh. I can’t forgive him for the crimes against humanity. The fact that even in Reunion everyone fucking hates him is a testament to his horrid personality. Part of me still wants the bear girls and probably 10k other victims to take turns smacking his smug face. But thinking about him just makes me so sad??)

He had a shit life. His family abused him, other slum kids bullied him, someone shoved a radioactive rock down his throat and gave him arknights cancer. Faust was his only friend and he would do anything to make him happy, even if he was beaten up even worse for it. Even after getting power, his first act of defiance (which is uh. killing his family by mind controlling the slum kids) was prompted by his bestie and not out of his own will. Then they got sent to the mines and almost starved to death. Then the first adult he ever trusted was possessed by some ancient evil guy and encouraged him to kill people, so he did just that. He didn’t even know it’s wrong until Faust basically killed himself. Then he wanted to die but couldn’t because Faust wouldn’t want that, so he turned himself into lugia funniest shit I’ve ever seen tried to wipe his memories to start over. But of course he failed and instead turned into an eldritch abomination that only caused more and more harm.

After everything I can’t even feel mad anymore, just… hopeless. The environment fucked him up so bad he sees no value in anyone’s life except Faust and Talulah. Then he fucked up so bad that everyone he knows is either dead or wants him dead, and who can blame them. At the end the only thing left is one broken kid with no self-worth, no dreams, no will to live, only the blood of thousands on his hands.

I know trauma isn’t an excuse to commit war crimes and other characters also have fucked up backstories but didn’t turn out like him. But I feel like most of them at least had some kind of guidance (through family or education) at some point of their lives. Mephisto’s guidance is terrorism. No surprise his moral compass is so fucked.

with  everything  that  was  happening  to  wade , she  was  stunned  at  his  efforts  to  stay  positive  that  they'd  be  able  to  beat  this.  sure  she  had  asked  to  do  so.  but  this  was  CANCER.  no  matter  how  much  she  wanted  to  deny  it ... that  is  what  it  was.  they  all  knew  it.  it  was  just  a  matter  of  coming  to  terms  with  it.

not  so  she  could  start  moving  through  any  stages  of  grief.  fat  chance  she  was  letting  him  leave  this  world  without  her. no , the  sooner  she  accepted  what  was  happening ... the  sooner  she  could  fix  it.  

anya  had  gotten  as  far  as  they  had  in  life ... because  they  lived  the  the  rule  that  everything  had  a  solution.  admitting  there  wasn't  a  solution  had  meant  failure  in  her  eyes  due  to  the  people   who  had  taken  control  of  her  early  upbringing.  failure  wasn't  an  option.  so  she  wasn't  going  to  let  herself  fail  in  finding  the  solution  that  would  keep  wade  right  where  he  belonged.  with  her.

her  hand  closed  around  his  the  second  he  grabbed  for  it.  squeezing  so  he  knew  she  was  there , but  being  careful  to  not  hurt  him.  she  couldn't  only  imagine  where  his  pain  levels  were  at  in  the  moment , on  top  of  what  he  went  through  on  a  day  to  day  basis.  she  could  feel  the  warmth  there.  causing  her  eyes  to  get  a  sheen  of  wetness  over  them  that  she  willed  to  recead  for  his  sake.  he  didn't  need  to  see  anyone  crying  over  him.  especially  her.  all  that  was  going  to  do  was  bring  those  plans  for  his  assumed  death.  ( yeah ... that  whole  accepting  what  was  happening  was  going  so  well. )

Before Wade had met Anya, there were approximately two living people that REALLY KNEW the Merc for who he was deep down as a person; one of those people was an OLD, BLIND WOMAN, and the other was HIMSELF.

And really...he was pretty sure Blind Al knew him better than he knew his OWN CHARACTER at times.

Moral flexibility had been his creed for Wade's entire life, and when that was the case though NEEDS MUST, it didn't encourage him to be CLOSE with himself, or introspective. In fact, he filled damn near every SECOND of his life with incessant TALKING, just so he could avoid a chance encounter with his own INNER-PSYCHE.

Being part of a real family was something he'd simply given up on. The closest he'd had since he was a teenager were the two VOICES that inhabited his head...and they were both SHITTY in their own special ways, so even his make-believe familial connections had been GARBAGE.

The company of those voices had never been anything but a reminder of his FAILURES.

Hearing her tell him to SILENCE his pessimism, he wanted more than anything to FOLLOW THAT ORDER. Anya was quite possibly the only one in the entire multiverse that could have brought him out of his own head at that point, and when he was forced to meet her gaze, he felt like the air in his lungs had been cut off, and all he wanted to do was COMMIT HER FACE TO MEMORY. As though maybe he would stand a chance of finding her in the NEXT LIFE.

He had to put in genuine effort into not allowing more tears to fall down his face after she wiped away the strays that had escaped his eyes. His throat was so tight that it ACHED, and deep down he just wanted to SCREAM into the void until his voice give out.

Rather than causing a RUCKUS with such an action though, he kept his eyes fixated on the love of his life. One of his hands moved up to hold Anya's that they had used to turn his head to face them. His touch was light, but warm, and he tried his best to keep the tremble from his hand as he gave hers a small squeeze.

He didn't know what the ODDS were that Anya could somehow discover the cure to FOUR CANCERS was...but he wanted to believe her so much that he turned a blind eye to the odds and kept his attention only on the assassin that he'd fallen irreversibly in love with.

"I guess watchin' you get into a KNIFE FIGHT with my tumors could at least be entertaining..." Wade's voice DID quiver slightly, but he maintained. He moved to press a kiss to her knuckles, offering a shaky smile in an effort to offer her comfort.

And here's Cancer! For a piece I had to REDO from SCRATCH, I was actually able to get him out way faster than I expected! Was it my prejudice as a fellow crab? Or maybe my disdain for having to draw the same character twice? The world may never know!

"It's a long story." For a moment Johnny just stared at the ceiling. It hurt to even think about it but Johnny knew he had to tell her the truth now before she starts thinking he murdered his wife.

"I was sixteen and my life was perfect. My dad and I had a stunt show at the circus." Johnny said. "But then I found out that my dad was dying of lung cancer. My dad was all I had and he was going to die and there was nothing I could do. I was so heartbroken and then, that night there's suddenly this strange man and he tells me that he can heal my dad and all he wants in return was my soul. I know what you're thinking now and you're right. I was stupid. But, fuck. I didn't even believe in the devil and all that shit back then. There was an old lunatic who offered me help while everyone else just told me there's nothing that can be done. I was young, stupid and in despair. So I signed the contract." Johnny sighed.

"As I woke up the next day I thought it all had been nothing but a weird dream. But guess what? My dad was healed from his cancer. The doctors couldn't even explain why. Everything was good again. Dad and I were dreaming about leaving the circus and having our own show. But you know what's the thing about making a deal with the devil? You never get what you want." Johnny paused for a second. "He died in a strange accident during our show. Strange coincidence, hu?" Johnny looked at Roxanne for a second. "I ran away and forgot about the stranger and for about 10 years I was living my dream. I had my own stunt shows, had a wonderful wife and two beautiful children." Johnny swallowed thickly.

"But then he showed up. His name's Mephistopheles. He took my soul and made me the Ghost Rider, the Devil's Bounty Hunter. And here's the part where you start to think I'm completely out of my mind. I fulfilled my part of the pact though not exactly like Mephistopheles wanted to. The devil didn't like that. He offered me my soul back if I give up being the Ghost Rider. I told him to fuck off and told him Id use it to fight him." There was another pause but this time it was a bit longer. "He killed them and it's my fault. He killed them because I..." Johnny was fighting back tears. "I had to watch them die and...Mephisto brought my wife back as one of his demons. He called her Black Rose. She killed innocent people. I...I had to...I...I'm sorry. I need to." Johnny quickly got up and went into the bathroom.

Because of a fanfic called “Historinhas do Tio Dohko” (Histories of Uncle Dohko -pt-br only!-) and an amazing ficwriter called Libra_no_Sakura I needed to draw them like this! She made a chapter about a Mephisto’s (or Deathmask) childhood day where Aphrodite and Mu sang Sailor Moon’s opening with a different lyrics for him as a way to convince him to give their things back… he didn’t anyway…

She also asked me to draw Mu as Sailor Mars and I couldn’t say no (i was about to draw it anyway)
