A serene snapshot of the Mississippi River in Ontario, where fresh snow blankets wild berries and tree branches. The tranquil beauty of a Canadian winter truly shines through in moments like these.

"Laurila Acquitted On Murder Charge," Kingston Whig-Standard. October 25, 1933. Page 2. ---- Judge Says Jury at Cobourg Took Merciful View of Case ---- COBOURG, Oct. 25 - Yrgo Laurila, Finish transient, yesterday was acquitted of the murder of Fred McLaren, 52-year-old Cavan Township farmer, whose frozen body was found in his shack last February with the head battered.
"Prisoner, the jury has taken a merciful view of your case," said Mr. Justice J. M. McEvoy when the jury had returned its verdict. "However right the verdict may be, you know. Perhaps in their wisdom they have realized you are a stranger in a strange land, and we desire to show you and the world at large we try to deal out even-handed justice to every one within our borders."
It was announced later Laurila would be held pending deportation proceedings.

I made a Canadian winter moodbaord! I know it's too early to be thinking about winter, but I had fun making it. Winter can be really fun, when it's not too cold. Ha ha.

Having to put up with the seasons is just like being goldilocks.
Sometimes it's too hot.
Other times it's too cold.
You have to wait until it's just right.

"Boy Clad in Hospital "Nightie" Hitch-Hikes Home in Zero Cold," Toronto Star. March 26, 1934. Page 1. --- Ottawa, March 26. - Billy McCormick is 12 years old and dislikes hospitals, but he is back in a hospital cot to-day, apparently none the worse for a midnight adventure which alarmed his parents and nurses.
All alone, the lad slipped out of the hospital late Saturday night clad in his nightshirt and hitchhiked to his home, two miles away. The temperature was just above zero and he was almost frozen when he reached his mother's bedside and awakened her with the words: "How are you? I am fine."
Billy had wrapped a hospital blanket around his body and swathed his feet in pieces of cloth he found in his room before setting out on his chilly jaunt. He picked up a ride part way with a motorist and, finding the door of his home unlocked, walked in. The frightened mother called an ambulance and had him rushed back to the hospital, where he had had his tonsils removed a few days previously.
