I’m one day late oops.
But since I’m a citizen of both, I want to wish everyone a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving and America a Happy Columbus Day.
We American citizens nor our government, none of us would be here without him and his discovery of America. I actually forgot the holiday existed tbh… and I hear people are trying to rename it to something else entirely?
Why rename such an important piece of American history? Why try even to erase it? All this wasn’t a thing back when I was a kid.
Anyways, maybe it’s a co-incidence this year but cool that the two holidays take place in the same day.
I hope y’all had a good time yesterday :)

Could you please elaborate on what you mentioned earlier about censorship in Canadian libraries?
Recently in Canada, libraries have become a battleground for ideologies, they had a whole state funded push back in like 2018ish to replace the existing history books with their "new and improved" one, the one that supposedly doesn't acknowledge the accomplishments of a specific race because they're the "bad mean stupid race". My husband and I salvaged the ones that were condemned for trash back then because they're perfectly good books (and free, being poor uni students lol), and frankly I don't trust historians with a chip on their shoulder against a particular race especially now that they've been granted state permission to rewrite history as they see fit.
During the "Freedom to Read" week, a head librarian with a handful of years away from retirement in a small town in Ontario where my friends live was fired for writing an opinion piece on American politics that didn't adhere to the standards of speech the library apparently supports. In other words; wrongthink, wrongspeak, and punished on the proverbial frontlines of state censorship. You'll find articles of every kind defending this action, but the people who actually live there protested, it's an artisan town afterall, what does it tell artists when the librarian is not allowed to speak freely, but even punished for showing such candor.
In the words of a retired chief librarian “The only people that should have been fired over the article are the library board for not standing with her during this controversy. As with most censorship issues, those that want to ban books or stop people from sharing opposing viewpoints see only what they want to see and are determined to stamp out anyone that does not comply with their view of the world.”
And then they have the gall to demand the town to be taxed more because they couldn't balance the budget this year. You know the biggest thing the townsfolk were asking for during the whole controversy? Transparency. That's it, but we're never going to get it while they remain an isolated and protected cog in the state machine, only getting handouts if they have enough progressive books for children on the shelf or get rid of "racist" literature, whatever that actually means :/
To quote one of my favourite Canadian articles from the Winnipeg Press 1946 in conversation with WWII: "If any proof be needed, it is provided by the record of the Fascist and Nazi dictatorships. Rigid control of all sources of public information, and especially of newspapers, was the corner-stone upon which those regimes were founded. Without it, they could never have held power. With it, they could do as they pleased, to the eventual ruin of their own peoples as well as much of the rest of the world. This disastrous chapter of history should provide a warning against any attempt, by governments or by private interests, to restrict the essential freedom of the press. A free people must stand on guard not only against direct censorship, but also against more insidious encroachments. Nominal freedom is not enough."
This all happened this year btw.

Very serious post:
The bff and I were thinking of alternate names for our country (the USA) but are currently favoring "Under-Canada."
We are in no way biased by growing up on the international border, where basically anything you could get on the US side you could also get on the Canadian side, but it would be better and less expensive and more fun to get to.

For the Tumblrinas in the US:
On October 4th there will be a nationwide FEMA alert sent out. This will just be a test notification for the emergency system. If you are in a situation where you are hiding a secondary electronic for whatever reason (DV, DA, etc), power it off completely or even drain the battery before that date. The alert will make noise and vibration, which you will not want. There is no way to block or silence the alert otherwise. The alert will most likely last for a full minute while the government does stuff with it.
You’ll note my use of secondary ‘electronic’. If all goes to plan this alert should be going to all electronics, not just cellphones. This will include the following: Phones (not just the cellular type) Radios TVs
If you’re not a fan of your TV suddenly switching to the EAS screen without any real emergency, switch off/unplug all of the following before testing time, which will be around 2:30 EST (10:30 AKT, 1:30 CST, 12:30 MST, and 11:30 PST)

The IDF confirms the stabber who attempted to attack troops outside Netiv Haasara earlier today is a Canadian citizen.
According to the military, the suspect arrived at the entrance to the Gaza border community by car, got out, and threatened security forces with a knife.
The troops returned fire, killing the assailant.
"We emphasize that the suspect is a foreign citizen who arrived at the scene from Israel and not from the Gaza Strip," the IDF adds.

From the article:
"People in Halifax were able to digitize their historical photographs on Sunday and share them publicly as part of an initiative by the Halifax municipal archives.
"The archives held a Scan-a-thon at the Halifax Central Library for members of the public to bring in treasured photographs, slides and negatives that showed local history.
"Municipal archivist Susan McClure said the archives are looking for any historical photos, including neighbourhoods, construction projects and pictures connected to the railway."

we need a td character who is voiced by a vocaloid that sounds like it was tuned in the 2010s. NOT AI, THIS ANON IS HEAVILYANTI AI, i mean like they got the rights to like. sweet ann or kaito v1 or gumi v2 or something. importantly, the voice cannot be miku, but if theres a letter from home their family member or friend is voiced by miku
.

BRITISH ELECTION PSA
Now that we finally have a date for the general election it's a good time to mention that IF YOU ARE A COMMONWEALTH CITIZEN and you are RESIDENT IN THE UK you may be able to REGISTER TO VOTE just so you know! You don't have to be a British citizen!

People from all across the world being able to freely travel to Israel, join the IDF, and participate in a genocide with no repercussions is such a difficult concept for me to wrap my mind around
